Unlike a Sink, a Best Range Hood Insert 30 Rarely Gives a Cutout

A range hood insert is a motor, a set of filters and a pair of lights in a steel liner, built to disappear into something else: a custom wood hood, a plaster chimney breast, a cabinet box over the cooktop. The insert does the work and the shell does the looking. That makes it the one kitchen appliance you fit into a hole you have to cut yourself. A sink comes with a cutout template and a dimension. A cooktop comes with a cutout dimension. Read the ten 30-inch inserts on this page side by side and only two of them tell you the size of the hole.

Those two agree to the tenth of an inch. Zomagas lists “Install Cut Out Dimensions:26 inch(W) x 10.2 inch(D)”. JOEAONZ lists “Recommended cutout dimensions: 26″ L x 10.2″ W”. AURAKICH says it ships a “Positioning template for precise installations” but prints no figures. The other seven give you the outside of the box and leave you to work out the opening, or to wait for the manual.

Most of them give the same outside. Zomagas, the Cosmo Lumin Collection and FIREGAS all list a body 27.8 inches wide and 11.5 inches deep. Hermitlux lists 27.76 by 11.46. IKTCH lists 27.75 by 11.8. Five of ten describe what is, on paper, nearly the same steel liner, and the only one of those five that prints a cutout is Zomagas. It would be convenient to assume the other four share its 26 by 10.2 inch opening. Nothing in their listings says so, and a shell cut a quarter inch too wide leaves an insert with nothing to sit on.

The second gap is where the air goes. Every insert here except Hauslane prints a maximum airflow, from 380 CFM on the Lumin Collection to 900 CFM on IKTCH, AURAKICH and VEVOR. Five listings state a duct or vent size, and all five say about six inches: 5.9 inch, 5.91 inch or 6 inch round. Every one of those five claims 600 CFM or less, or no figure at all. The three 900 CFM listings never say what duct they need. A 6-inch round duct has about 28.3 square inches of opening, by our arithmetic, and pushing 900 cubic feet a minute through it would mean air moving at about 4,580 feet per minute. Listings do not say under what conditions their CFM was measured, and a figure that high is a reason to read the manual before you plan the duct.

The third gap is what “ductless” means. Eight of the ten call themselves convertible between ducted and ductless. AURAKICH goes further and calls itself a “900CFM ductless vent hood”. In ductless mode a hood draws air through grease and charcoal filters and blows it back into the kitchen. That traps grease and some odour; it does not remove heat or steam from the room. A big CFM number on recirculation is a big number for air that stays in the house.

So this guide sorts the ten by what each listing lets you plan before you cut: the cutout where one is printed, the body dimensions where it is not, the duct size against the airflow claim, and whether the ductless option comes with its filters or sends you shopping. We also cover noise as stated, controls, lights, power cords and warranties, and what the secondary searches ask: who sells a 36-inch version, and which brand documents its insert best. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only.

All ten were captured on 5 October 2026. Their overall Best Sellers Ranks run from #110 to #1,740, and the two listings that print a cutout sit at #138 and #483.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. Body dimensions are as listed, in the order width x depth x height. Where a listing gives a dimension in a bullet and a different one in its spec table, the bullet figure is shown here and both appear in the detail cards. Hermitlux’s figures come from its size field; its spec table gives a height of about 10.24 inches instead of 11.38. AURAKICH’s figures are its spec-table width, length and height fields, rounded; the listing does not say whether they describe the insert or the carton. The VEVOR fields (with a 42.0 lb weight) and the Hauslane width field (35.25 in) cannot describe an insert meant for a 30-inch opening as a body size, and are flagged rather than used. Duct sizes are as stated: 5.9 and 5.91 inches are about 150 mm, by our arithmetic, so read them as the hood’s metric collar for a 6-inch round duct. Ranks are overall Best Sellers Ranks as returned on 5 October 2026; all ten sit in Range Hoods, from #13 to #321. Two inserts were sold by Amazon.com at capture, the other eight by their brands or brand stores. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for any product here.

How We Chose These Ten

We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read each listing’s claims about its size, its airflow, its duct and its ductless mode line by line. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these hoods.

  • 30-inch inserts only — every product here is a built-in insert or liner sold for a 30-inch hood or cabinet. Wall-mount chimney hoods, under-cabinet hoods and island hoods were not in the running, and neither were 36-inch inserts, which we cover separately below.
  • New units only — every buy box was a new product at capture.
  • Cutout recorded exactly as printed — an install or cutout dimension where the listing gives one, a template where it mentions one, and “not stated” everywhere else. We do not borrow one brand’s cutout for another brand’s insert, even where the bodies look identical.
  • Body dimensions with their conflicts — where a bullet and a spec table disagree, we report both. Where a field cannot describe the body of a 30-inch insert, we say so and do not use it.
  • Airflow and duct size side by side — the maximum CFM as claimed, and the duct or vent size where one is stated. Air-speed figures on this page are our arithmetic, assume the full rated flow passes through the duct, and are not a measure of what any hood does in a real duct run.
  • Ductless claims read literally — we note whether charcoal filters are included, sold separately or not mentioned, and we treat recirculation as what it is: filtered air returned to the kitchen, not air removed from it.
  • Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only — ranks are quoted exactly as returned on 5 October 2026. All ten sit in the same Range Hoods category, so their category ranks can be compared directly.
  • Verified stock and seller — each product was the buy-box offer and in stock on amazon.com on 5 October 2026.

The Ten 30-Inch Range Hood Inserts in Detail

1. Zomagas Range Hood Insert 30 Inch, 600 CFM, Baffle Filters, Ducted/Ductless Convertible — Best Overall

Brushed stainless steel range hood insert liner seen from below, with two baffle filters, push buttons on the front edge and a light at each side

The only listing that gives you the cutout, the body and the duct size in one place.

Key Specifications

Cutout 26 in (W) x 10.2 in (D), stated
Body 27.8 x 11.5 x 10.3 in (bullet); height 11.4 in (spec table)
Max airflow 600 CFM
Duct / vent 5.9 in round top vent; “ducted 6 inch round vent on the top”
Ducted / ductless Convertible; charcoal filters sold separately (CFZMG13)
Noise 65dB maximum, stated
Controls Mechanical push buttons
Filters Two #430 stainless baffle filters, dishwasher safe
Lights Two cooking lights, one each side
Electrical Not stated
Warranty Not stated
Best Sellers Rank #138 overall; #15 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

This is the insert you can plan a hood shell around before it arrives. The last bullet does what nine other listings on the page do not: “Product Dimensions: 27.8 inch(W) x 11.5 inch(D) x 10.3 inch(H);Install Cut Out Dimensions:26 inch(W) x 10.2 inch(D);5.9 inch round top vent”. Body, opening and duct collar in one line. A cabinetmaker building a wood hood needs exactly those three figures, and most listings here give one of them at best.

The gap between body and cutout is the ledge the insert sits on. A 27.8 inch body over a 26 inch opening leaves 1.8 inches of flange to share between the two sides, about 0.9 inches each, by our arithmetic. Front to back, 11.5 inches over 10.2 leaves 1.3 inches, about 0.65 each. That is not much timber to screw into, so the opening has to be cut accurately and square. It is also why a stated cutout matters: guess a quarter inch wide on each side and you have taken away more than half of the ledge.

Two fields disagree on height. The bullet says 10.3 inches; the spec table says 11.4 inches. The likeliest reading is that one figure includes the vent collar on top, but the listing does not say. If your shell has a fixed internal height, for example a cabinet box with a shelf above, plan for 11.4 inches plus the duct connection, and confirm against the manual.

The airflow claim and the duct agree with each other. 600 CFM through a 6-inch round duct means air moving at about 3,060 feet per minute if the full rated flow got through, by our arithmetic. That is the middle of this page, not the top. The listing calls it “600 CFM Powerful Suction But Quiet” and gives a maximum of “only 65dB, just like walking in park”. No low-speed figure is given, and like every listing here it does not say how far from the hood the noise was measured.

Ductless is an add-on here. “Charcoal filters (sold separately: CFZMG13) can be purchased in our shop.” The two #430 stainless baffle filters in the box catch grease and go in the dishwasher; they do not touch odour in recirculating mode. If you have no duct to the outside, budget for the charcoal set and read the ductless section below, because recirculation does not remove heat or steam. The controls are “Classic mechanical push-button”, which the listing pitches for use with wet hands, and the two lights sit one at each side.

What to weigh. It is sold by fanyinjiaju and ranks #138 overall and #15 in Range Hoods, the second-best rank on the page. No warranty is stated, and no electrical detail: the listing does not say whether it has a plug or needs hardwiring. Ask both questions before you order. Against the IKTCH, it gives up 300 CFM, a remote and a long warranty term, and gains the only full set of fitting dimensions on the page.

Pros

  • Cutout stated: 26 x 10.2 in
  • Body and 5.9 in vent size in the same bullet
  • 600 CFM matched to a 6 in duct
  • #138 overall, second-best rank here
  • Two dishwasher-safe #430 baffle filters
  • Simple push-button controls

Cons

  • Charcoal filters sold separately
  • Height 10.3 or 11.4 in, depending on field
  • No warranty stated
  • Plug or hardwire not stated
  • No low-speed noise figure
  • Third-party brand seller

Best for: A buyer having a custom hood shell built who wants the cutout, body and duct size in writing before the carpenter starts.

2. Hermitlux 30″ Built in/Insert Range Hood, 600 CFM, HMX-USB13G70-AC — Best Budget

Stainless steel built-in range hood insert with two baffle filters underneath and a row of push buttons on the front strip

The lowest-priced insert here comes with its charcoal filters, a stated vent size and a plug.

Key Specifications

Cutout Not stated
Body 27.76 x 11.38 x 11.46 in (size field); height 10.24 in (spec table)
Max airflow 600 CFM
Duct / vent Vent hole 5.91 in for ducted installation
Ducted / ductless Convertible; 2 charcoal filters included
Noise Less than 62dB at high speed, stated
Controls 3-speed push buttons
Filters 2 washable baffle filters + 2 charcoal filters
Electrical 120V/60Hz; 46 in cord with 3-prong plug
Listed weight 18.7 pounds
Warranty 1 year, stated
Best Sellers Rank #280 overall; #41 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

This is the most complete box on the page for the least money. The “WHAT YOU GET” bullet lists it: “120V/60Hz, 46 inches long power cord with 3-prong plug, 2 pcs charcoal filters, 2 pcs washable baffle filters, user manual, 1-year warranty”. Charcoal filters in the box means the ductless option works on day one. A stated cord length means you can place the outlet inside the shell before the shell is closed. Only three listings here say there is a plug at all, and this is the only one that says how long the cord is.

It does not give a cutout, and its height fields disagree. The spec table gives a width of about 27.76 inches, a length of about 11.46 inches and a height of about 10.24 inches. The size field says “27.76 x 11.38 x 11.46 inches”. Width agrees; the other two do not line up. One reading is that the size field’s 11.46 is height including the collar and the spec table’s 10.24 is the liner alone, but the listing does not say. The model code, HMX-USB13G70-AC, is close to FIREGAS’s FGS-USB13G70AC, and the two list nearly the same body. We cannot tell from the listings whether they share a design, and neither prints a cutout. Get the opening from the manual before anyone cuts.

The vent is stated precisely. “This range hood insert can be converted to ducted or ductless, with a vent hole size of 5.91 inches for the ducted installation.” 5.91 inches is 150 millimetres, by our arithmetic, a standard metric collar, and the usual partner for a 6-inch round duct. At its 600 CFM claim, that is the same airflow-to-duct balance as Zomagas and FIREGAS.

The noise claim is moderate and specific. “Quiet operation keeps noise level less than 62dB even at high speed.” That is 3 dB under Zomagas’s 65 and 5 dB over FIREGAS’s 57, for the same stated airflow. The listing then adds, unusually, “If you find your range hood to be loud noise, please contact our customer service team”. As everywhere here, no measuring distance is given.

What to weigh. It is sold by hermitlux Direct and ranks #280 overall and #41 in Range Hoods. The 1-year warranty is the shortest stated term on the page, matched only by ONEEON. Controls are a 3-speed push button with an LED light, no remote. For a budget build where the shell is going to be cut to the manual anyway, it is the insert with the fewest extra purchases.

Pros

  • Lowest-priced insert here
  • 2 charcoal filters included for ductless use
  • 46 in cord with 3-prong plug, stated
  • 5.91 in vent hole stated
  • Under 62 dB at high speed claimed
  • 18.7 lb listed weight

Cons

  • Cutout not stated
  • Height 10.24 or 11.38/11.46 in, depending on field
  • 1-year warranty, the shortest here
  • No remote or low-speed noise figure
  • Generic model field (“Hermitlux”)
  • Brand-store seller

Best for: A budget build that wants the ductless filters and a plug in the box, and will take the cutout from the manual.

3. IKTCH 30 Inch Insert Range Hood, 900 CFM, Ducted/Ductless, IKB01-30 — Best Premium

Stainless steel range hood insert with a slim control panel on the front edge, two stainless filters and two small LED lights

The best-selling insert here makes the biggest airflow claim and never says what duct it needs.

Key Specifications

Cutout Not stated
Body 27.75 x 11.8 x 11.4 in (spec table)
Max airflow 900 CFM
Duct / vent Not stated
Ducted / ductless Ducted/Ductless in title; charcoal filters not mentioned
Noise 40 dB lowest setting; 65dB maximum, stated
Controls Remote control, gesture sensing, 4 speeds
Filters 2 stainless steel permanent filters, dishwasher safe
Lights 2 x 3W LED, adjustable brightness
Electrical Not stated
Warranty Motor replacement within 10 years; switch control and LED within 5 years
Best Sellers Rank #110 overall; #13 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

This is the best-ranked insert on the page, and the strongest claim. “Maximum 900 CFM large airflow with good balance fans efficiently removes large amounts of smoke and cooking odors with ease.” It ranks #110 overall and #13 in Range Hoods, ahead of every other 30-inch insert here. It shares the 900 CFM figure with AURAKICH and VEVOR. Like both of them, it does not say what duct it connects to.

The duct is the question to ask first. Every listing here that does state a duct size says about six inches, and every one of those claims 600 CFM or less. If IKTCH’s collar is also six inches, 900 CFM through it would mean air moving at about 4,580 feet per minute at the full rating, by our arithmetic, half as fast again as a 600 CFM hood on the same duct. Real airflow falls as duct length, bends and the roof or wall cap add resistance, and listings do not say how their CFM figure was measured. Hood makers commonly specify a larger duct for higher-airflow models. Ask the seller for the collar size and the recommended duct, or read the manual, before you plan the run.

The noise range is the widest stated here. “The noise level is at 40 decibels on the lowest setting and only 65dB max noise level.” A 25 dB span over four speeds. As a general rule of acoustics, 10 dB higher sounds roughly twice as loud, so the top speed is in a different league from the bottom one. 65 dB at 900 CFM is the same maximum Zomagas claims at 600 CFM, which is a reason to treat both figures as measured under conditions neither listing describes.

It is the gadget insert. The listing gives it a remote control and “novel gesture sensing”, four speeds, two 3W LEDs with adjustable brightness and two dishwasher-safe stainless permanent filters. The title says ducted or ductless, but no bullet mentions charcoal filters, a part number or whether they are included. If you need recirculation, ask what to buy and whether the 900 CFM claim applies with charcoal fitted; it almost certainly will not be the same figure.

The warranty is the longest on the page. The spec table says: “you are entitled to a complimentary motor replacement within 10 years, as well as free replacement of switch control and LED light within 5 years”. Only Hauslane’s lifetime motor term goes further on the motor, and Hauslane gives no CFM. The body is listed at 27.75 by 11.8 by 11.4 inches, close to the Zomagas and FIREGAS liners but deeper. It is sold by iKTCH, and it is the highest-priced insert on the page. No cutout and no electrical detail are given.

Pros

  • Best rank here: #110 overall, #13 in Range Hoods
  • 900 CFM, joint highest claim
  • 40 dB lowest setting stated
  • Remote and gesture control, 4 speeds
  • 10-year motor, 5-year switch and LED replacement
  • Dishwasher-safe stainless filters

Cons

  • Duct size not stated for a 900 CFM claim
  • Cutout not stated
  • Charcoal filters not mentioned
  • Plug or hardwire not stated
  • Highest-priced insert here
  • High CFM may trigger make-up air rules in some areas

Best for: A ducted kitchen with a planned duct run that can take a high-airflow hood, and an owner who wants the longest warranty term.

4. JOEAONZ Range Hood Insert 30 Inch, 600 CFM, Matte Black, BB0675B — Best Black Finish

Matte black range hood insert seen from below with two split baffle filters and a long LED light bar along the front

The only black insert here, and the second of two that print a cutout.

Key Specifications

Cutout Recommended 26 in L x 10.2 in W, stated
Body Body length 28 in (bullet); spec table 30.31 x 13.58 x 13.98 in
Fits 30-inch cabinets, stated
Max airflow 600 CFM
Duct / vent Not stated
Ducted / ductless Convertible; charcoal filters sold separately (YYCF02)
Noise Not stated as a figure
Controls Mechanical push buttons, 3 speeds
Filters 2 split stainless deep-groove baffle filters, dishwasher safe
Lights One long LED light
Listed weight 20.0 pounds
Warranty 2 years manufacturer
Best Sellers Rank #483 overall; #80 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

JOEAONZ prints the same cutout as Zomagas. “Body Length: 28 inches. Fits 30-inch cabinets. Recommended cutout dimensions: 26″ L x 10.2″ W.” Twenty-six by 10.2, the same two figures as the Zomagas install cutout, from a different brand with a different body. The word “recommended” is honest: the opening is a starting point, and the manual is the final word. But it is a number, which is more than eight listings here offer.

The ledge is a little wider. A 28 inch body over a 26 inch opening leaves 2 inches of flange, about an inch each side, by our arithmetic, slightly more than the Zomagas. The listing does not give the body depth in its bullets, so the front-to-back ledge cannot be worked out. The spec table gives 30.31 by 13.58 by 13.98 inches, which is wider than the 28 inch body the bullet states. Read that as the carton, not the hood; the listing does not say which it is.

It is the one finish here that is not steel-coloured. The title says “Matte Black Built-in Extractor”, and the colour field says black. Inside a wood or plaster shell, the underside of the insert is the only part anyone sees, and a black liner disappears into a dark hood in a way brushed steel does not. If the point of the insert is to vanish, our hidden range hood guide looks at that goal across hood styles.

The airflow claim stands without a duct size. “30 inch built-in kitchen hood can still provide a great suction of 600CFM while maintaining low noise levels.” No duct size and no decibel figure. Six hundred CFM is the figure the 6-inch listings here pair with a 6-inch duct, so a 6-inch run is a reasonable assumption to check, not one to build on. Ductless needs “a set of highly concentrated charcoal filters [YYCF02] (sold separately)”.

What to weigh. It is sold by JOEAONZ US and ranks #483 overall and #80 in Range Hoods. It lists 20.0 pounds and a 2-year manufacturer warranty. The baffle filters are “designed with deep grooves to trap grease” and split in two, and the light is a single long LED bar rather than two spots, which the listing says spreads light to “both sides of your stove”. Against the Zomagas, it trades the stated duct size and a far better rank for a black finish, a slightly wider ledge and a stated warranty.

Pros

  • Cutout stated: 26 x 10.2 in
  • Matte black, the only non-steel finish
  • About 1 in of flange each side by our arithmetic
  • 2-year manufacturer warranty
  • Deep-groove split baffle filters
  • Long LED light bar

Cons

  • Duct size not stated
  • No decibel figure
  • Charcoal filters sold separately
  • Spec-table size wider than the stated body
  • Body depth not stated in bullets
  • #483 overall

Best for: A dark custom hood where a black liner hides better than steel, with the shell cut to a stated opening.

5. Cosmo 30 in. Lumin Collection 380 CFM Ducted Insert Range Hood, COS-30IRHP — Best Documented

Brushed stainless steel insert range hood liner with a perforated permanent filter panel and a small push-button strip

The lowest airflow here, and the most paperwork: ETL listing, gauge, plug and duct size.

Key Specifications

Cutout Not stated
Body 27.8 x 11.5 x 11.4 in
Max airflow 380 CFM
Duct / vent 5.9 in round; flexible ducting included
Ducted / ductless Ducted (title); no ductless option stated
Noise As low as 45 dB on lowest speed with rigid ducting
Controls 3-speed push buttons
Filters ARC-FLOW permanent filters, dishwasher safe
Steel 430 grade, 26-gauge brushed stainless
Electrical 120V/60Hz, 3-prong plug; ETL listed
Listed weight 15.9 pounds
Warranty 2-year limited
Best Sellers Rank #338 overall; #53 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

This is the most fully documented insert on the page, and the least powerful. The fifth bullet reads: “Product Dimensions: 27.8″ (W) x 11.5″ (D) x 11.4″ (H). Electrical Requirements: 120V/60Hz, 3 Prong Plug. Duct Size: 5.9″ Round. ETL Listed”. Body, power, duct and a safety listing in one place. Another bullet gives the steel: “premium 430 grade, 26-Gauge thickness”, the only gauge figure on the page. It is sold by Amazon.com. What it does not give is a cutout.

Its body matches the Zomagas width and depth to the tenth. 27.8 by 11.5 inches, the same as Zomagas and FIREGAS. Height is 11.4 inches, matching the Zomagas spec table rather than its bullet. That makes it tempting to cut for the Zomagas opening, 26 by 10.2. Do not. Same outside dimensions do not guarantee the same flange or the same fixing points, and Cosmo publishes its own installation instructions. The manual is the source for the opening.

380 CFM is the lowest stated airflow here, and it is honest about conditions. “Noise level as low as 45 dB on lowest fan speed with rigid ducting (sold separately) under optimal conditions.” It is the only listing that says its noise figure depends on the duct. Through the 6-inch duct its 5.9 inch collar feeds, 380 CFM means air moving at about 1,940 feet per minute at the full rating, by our arithmetic, well under half the speed a 900 CFM claim implies through a 6-inch duct. For a 30-inch electric or modest gas cooktop, a lower figure that fits the duct comfortably is a reasonable trade.

The copy disagrees with the title once. The title says “Ducted Insert Range Hood”. The first bullet calls it “this Cosmo under cabinet range hood”. The dimensions, the title and the product name all describe an insert; read the bullet as shared copy from another Cosmo product. It also says the hood “comes with flexible ducting for convenient installation” while recommending rigid ducting for its quietest figure. Rigid duct is smoother inside and generally the better choice for the permanent run.

What to weigh. It ranks #338 overall and #53 in Range Hoods. It is ducted only: no ductless conversion is offered, so it is no use without an outside vent. The filters are Cosmo’s “ARC-FLOW Permanent Filters”, not baffles, and the LEDs are 1.5 watts. The warranty is a 2-year limited term, and the listing says the support team is US-based. For the buyer of the best brand range hood insert by documentation, this is the listing that answers the most questions in writing.

Pros

  • ETL listed, stated
  • 430 grade, 26-gauge steel, the only gauge here
  • 120V plug and 5.9 in duct stated
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • 2-year limited warranty
  • Flexible ducting included

Cons

  • 380 CFM, the lowest stated here
  • Ducted only; no ductless option
  • Cutout not stated
  • One bullet calls it under-cabinet
  • Quietest figure needs rigid duct, sold separately
  • Permanent filters, not baffles

Best for: A ducted kitchen with a modest cooktop where documentation, a safety listing and Amazon.com as seller matter more than peak airflow.

6. FIREGAS Range Hood Insert 30 Inch, 600 CFM, FGS-USB13G70AC — Quietest Claim

Stainless steel range hood insert with two baffle filters, a three-button control strip and two warm LED lamps

The same body as the Zomagas, the lowest high-speed noise claim here, and a carbon filter in the box.

Key Specifications

Cutout Not stated
Body 27.8 x 11.5 x 10.3 in
Max airflow 600 CFM
Duct / vent Fits 6 in round duct; 5.9 in round top vent
Ducted / ductless Convertible; carbon filter included (CC170)
Noise Less than 57dB at high speed, stated
Controls Low / Medium / High push buttons
Filters 2 stainless baffle filters, dishwasher safe
Steel 430 stainless, stated
Electrical 120V/60Hz, 3-prong plug
Warranty Not stated
Best Sellers Rank #231 overall; #32 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

On paper, this is the Zomagas body without the Zomagas cutout. The last bullet gives “Product Dimensions:27.8 in.(W) x 11.5 in.(D) x 10.3 in.(H),Electrical:120V/60Hz,3-prong plug,5.9 inch round top vent.” Every one of those dimensions matches the Zomagas bullet exactly. The model code, FGS-USB13G70AC, shares its core with Hermitlux’s HMX-USB13G70-AC. We cannot tell from the listings whether the three share a factory or only a format. What we can say is that FIREGAS states no cutout, so the Zomagas figure is a question to put to FIREGAS, not an answer.

It gives both duct figures, and they reconcile. “Exhaust hoods fits 6 inch round duct” in one bullet, “5.9 inch round top vent” in another. 5.9 inches is about 150 millimetres, by our arithmetic: the hood’s collar is metric and the duct it takes is the US 6-inch round. Every listing here that gives a duct size is describing the same pairing, and FIREGAS is the one that says so in both units.

The noise claim is the lowest high-speed figure on the page. “Ultra quiet operation, noise of 30 inch vent hood less than 57dB at high speed.” That is 5 dB under Hermitlux and 8 dB under Zomagas for the same 600 CFM claim, on what looks like the same body. A gap that size between near-identical liners is a reason to treat all three as figures measured under conditions none of them describe, and not to choose on decibels alone.

The ductless filter is included, and the wording is muddled. “Ductless range hood can be convertible to ductless with included carbon Filter(CC170).” The meaning is clear enough: a carbon filter comes in the box, so recirculation works without an extra purchase. The next bullet adds that it is “capable of vent-less or recirculation operation, great for ductless kitchen”. That is true in the sense that it will run; recirculation still returns warm, moist air to the room. The first bullet’s claim to remove “harmful carcinogens” is not something a listing can show, and we give it no weight.

What to weigh. It is sold by Firegas Kitchen Appliances Direct and ranks #231 overall and #32 in Range Hoods, third on the page. It is one of three listings that state a plug, and it says “430 stainless-steel” with a thickness “better than others”, a comparison with no figure behind it. No warranty is stated. Against the Hermitlux, it adds a better rank and a lower noise claim, and gives up the stated warranty and cord length.

Pros

  • Under 57 dB at high speed, the lowest high-speed claim
  • Carbon filter included (CC170)
  • 6 in duct and 5.9 in collar both stated
  • 120V 3-prong plug stated
  • #231 overall, third here
  • Baffle filters, dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Cutout not stated
  • No warranty stated
  • Unsupported health claim in the copy
  • Thickness “better than others” with no figure
  • Three-speed buttons only
  • No low-speed noise figure

Best for: A buyer who wants a 600 CFM liner with the quietest stated top speed and the ductless filter in the box.

7. Hauslane Range Hood Insert 30 Inch, 11.25″ Deep, Ducted/Ductless, IN-R100SS-30 — Best Motor Warranty

Recessed stainless steel range hood insert with baffle filters and two round GU10-style lamps set into the underside

A lifetime motor warranty and standard bulbs, and no airflow figure anywhere.

Key Specifications

Cutout Not stated
Body 11.25 in deep (title); height about 10 in (spec table)
Width field 35.25 in; not credible as the body of a 30-inch insert
Max airflow Not stated
Duct / vent Fits 6 in round duct
Ducted / ductless Convertible; charcoal filters sold separately
Noise “Low Noise” in title; no figure
Filters Stainless steel baffle filters, dishwasher safe
Lights LED with GU10 base, replaceable locally
Listed weight 18.1 pounds
Warranty 2-year limited; lifetime on motors
Best Sellers Rank #463 overall; #75 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

This is the only insert on the page with no CFM figure. Nine listings lead with airflow. Hauslane talks about “heavy-duty cooking needs such as boiling, steaming, poaching, braising, frying, searing, and sauteing” and promises to “suck away fumes, smoke, and odors fast”, and never gives a number. The model field, “IN-R110/110/200/300”, suggests a family of variants, which may be why. If airflow matters to your cooking, ask which variant this is and what it moves before you buy.

Its dimensions are partly usable. The title says “Kitchen Vent Hood 11.25″ Deep”, and the spec table agrees, with a length of about 11.25 inches. The height field is about 10 inches. The width field is about 35.25 inches, which is wider than the 30-inch opening the hood is sold for; it cannot be the insert body, and is most likely the carton. So the depth is known, the width is not, and there is no cutout. Of all ten, this is the one where the manual has to come before the saw.

The duct is stated, and the ductless kit is extra. “This versatile cooker hood fits a 6” round duct and works in a ductless kitchen! Simply combine it with our effective charcoal filters (sold separately).” Like the other 6-inch listings here, nothing about the duct is unusual. Like Zomagas and JOEAONZ, recirculation costs an extra purchase.

The lighting is the most practical on the page. “The bright LED lights with GU10 base conserve energy without compromising on light. Unlike other kitchen hoods, you don’t have to request new bulbs from the brand.” GU10 is a standard twist-lock base sold in ordinary hardware shops. Every other insert here uses built-in LEDs, which are long-lived but, when they fail, are a part you order. For an appliance built into a cabinet you may keep for fifteen years, a bulb you can buy anywhere is a real advantage.

The warranty is the strongest motor term. “We offer two year limited warranty and lifetime warranty on motors. Our US-based support team is here to service you.” IKTCH offers 10 years on the motor; Hauslane says lifetime. It is sold by Hauslane, lists 18.1 pounds and ranks #463 overall and #75 in Range Hoods. Note that the manufacturer field reads “Chef Kitch”, not Hauslane. Against the IKTCH, it trades a stated 900 CFM and a remote for a longer motor term and standard bulbs, and gives you no airflow figure to plan a duct around.

Pros

  • Lifetime motor warranty, plus 2-year limited
  • GU10 bulbs, replaceable from any hardware shop
  • Fits 6 in round duct, stated
  • 11.25 in depth stated in title
  • Dishwasher-safe baffle filters
  • US-based support, stated

Cons

  • No CFM figure anywhere
  • Width field not credible as a body size
  • Cutout not stated
  • Charcoal filters sold separately
  • No decibel figure
  • Controls not described

Best for: A long-term built-in where a lifetime motor term and standard replacement bulbs matter more than a printed airflow figure.

8. VEVOR Insert Range Hood, 900 CFM 4-Speed, 30 Inch, Touch & Remote Control, ETL Listed — Best Controls

Stainless steel insert range hood with a black glass touch panel, three stainless filters and recessed LED lights

A 900 CFM claim, touch and remote control, and dimension fields that look like the shipping box.

Key Specifications

Cutout Not stated
Dimension fields 30.0 x 18.5 x 17.4 in; likely carton, not stated
Listed weight 42.0 pounds; likely shipping weight, not stated
Max airflow 900CFM
Duct / vent Not stated; 59.1 in / 1.5m detachable duct included
Ducted / ductless Convertible; charcoal filter described as part of filtration
Noise 62dB at highest speed, stated
Controls Acrylic touch screen and remote; 4 speeds; clock and delayed shutdown
Filters 3 detachable stainless steel filters + charcoal filter
Safety ETL listed, stated
Warranty Not stated
Best Sellers Rank #355 overall; #58 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

This listing gives you nothing you could cut a shell to. The spec table reads 30.0 by 18.5 by 17.4 inches and 42.0 pounds. An insert for a 30-inch hood cannot be 30 inches wide on its body and still fit inside a 30-inch shell with walls, and 18.5 inches is deeper than any other body here by about seven inches. The likeliest reading is that these are the carton and the shipping weight, but the listing does not say. No bullet gives a body size or a cutout. Get both from the manual before you buy the timber.

The airflow claim is the joint highest, and the duct is blank. “The galvanized motor offers powerful suction with a maximum of 900CFM speed.” No collar size is given. What is given is a “59.1inch / 1.5m detachable duct”, a short flexible length that helps a ductless setup or the first connection, not a whole run to an outside wall. As with IKTCH and AURAKICH, 900 CFM through a 6-inch duct would mean air moving at about 4,580 feet per minute at the full rating, by our arithmetic. Ask what the collar is.

The controls are the most complete here. “The acrylic smart screen provides ease of use by simply touching to select the modes you need. It is also equipped with a remote control”, with four speeds, lights and a “clock & delayed shutdown function”. A delayed shutdown lets the fan run on after cooking to clear what is left in the air, a genuinely useful feature on any hood. Only AURAKICH lists more ways to control it, and VEVOR is the one of the two that states a clock.

It is the one listing with three filters, and it describes charcoal as standard. “The 3 detachable stainless steel filters can effectively block cooking grease and oil”, and “The charcoal filter, made from high-quality activated carbon, can block harmful particulates and absorb smoke”. The filtration bullet appears twice, word for word, in the listing. It promises that “fully-filtered fresh air can be circulated indoors or discharged outdoors”. Recirculated air is filtered air, not fresh air: the heat and moisture from the pan are still in it.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #355 overall and #58 in Range Hoods. The title and first bullet say ETL listed, one of two inserts here with a stated safety listing, alongside the Cosmo Lumin. The noise claim is 62 dB at the highest speed. No warranty is stated, and no electrical detail. For a buyer who wants touch, remote and a run-on timer from a seller with Amazon.com’s returns, it is the control-rich option; for planning a shell, it is the weakest listing on the page.

Pros

  • Touch screen and remote, 4 speeds
  • Clock and delayed shutdown stated
  • 3 stainless filters plus charcoal
  • ETL listed, stated
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • 62 dB at highest speed claimed

Cons

  • No usable body size or cutout
  • Duct size not stated for 900 CFM
  • Dimension and weight fields look like the carton
  • No warranty stated
  • Duplicated bullet in the listing
  • “Fresh air” claim for recirculation

Best for: A buyer who wants touch, remote and a run-on timer from Amazon.com, and will size the shell from the manual.

9. AURAKICH 30″ Range Hood Insert, 900 CFM, Full Copper Motor, AUR-RHB02-US — Most Control Options

Silver range hood insert with a touch control strip on the front edge and two bright LED panels lighting a cooktop below

A 900 CFM “ductless” claim, an honest 79 dB, and the widest body field on the page.

Key Specifications

Cutout Not stated; positioning template included
Dimension fields Width 29.53, length 11.22, height 11.81 in
Max airflow 900CFM; motor 380W
Duct / vent Not stated; pipe included
Ducted / ductless Convertible; charcoal filters included
Noise About 79dB at max speed; 49dB at lower speed
Controls Touch, gesture and remote; 3 speeds; timer
Lights Tunable LEDs, 2800K-6800K
Listed weight 22.7 pounds
Warranty 2-year manufacturer
Best Sellers Rank #533 overall; #94 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

This is the only listing that calls a 900 CFM insert ductless in its headline claim. “380W 900CFM ductless vent hood commercial-grade copper motor delivers hurricane suction”, then “Convertible ducted/ductless with included charcoal filters + pipe”. Charcoal filters and a pipe in the box are useful. The headline is the problem. In ductless mode, air goes through the grease filters and then the charcoal, which adds resistance, and comes back into the kitchen. The listing does not give a ductless airflow figure. And however much air moves, recirculation removes no heat and no steam.

The noise figure is the most candid on the page. “At max speed powerful performance, the sound level is approximately 79dB to ensure maximum suction power, use lower speed settings for quieter daily cooking at 49dB.” Seventy-nine is 14 dB above the IKTCH and 17 dB above the VEVOR, the other two 900 CFM claims. By the general rule that 10 dB sounds about twice as loud, that is a very different hood at full speed, or a very different way of measuring. We cannot tell which from the listings, but we would rather plan around a figure a seller admits than one that seems too good.

Its dimension fields convert to round metric numbers. The width field is about 29.53 inches, the length about 11.22 and the height about 11.81. By our arithmetic, those are 750, 285 and 300 millimetres. That suggests real factory dimensions, and 750 mm is noticeably wider than the 27.8 inch bodies elsewhere on the page, which are about 706 mm. If 29.53 inches is the body, the shell’s inside width has to clear it, which leaves very little room in a 30-inch hood. The listing does not say whether the fields describe the insert or the box. It does say it ships a “Positioning template for precise installations”, which is the next best thing to a printed cutout, once the box is open.

It has the most ways to control it. “Touch, Gesture, and Remote control. No more greasy fingerprints! (No App Required)”, with a touch panel for “speed/timer/lighting”. The lighting is the most adjustable here too: “Pro-grade tunable LEDs (2800K-6800K)”, from warm to cool white. Three fan speeds sit behind all that.

What to weigh. It is sold by AURAKICH DIRECT and ranks #533 overall and #94 in Range Hoods. It lists 22.7 pounds and a 2-year manufacturer warranty covering the motor, lighting and controls. The claim of “42% more efficiency than aluminum” for the copper motor comes with no basis we can check. As a ducted hood with a template and a candid noise figure, it is a reasonable 900 CFM option; as a ductless hood, the 900 CFM number tells you little about what reaches your kitchen.

Pros

  • Touch, gesture and remote control
  • Charcoal filters and pipe included
  • Tunable 2800K-6800K lighting
  • Positioning template included
  • Candid 79 dB max figure
  • 2-year warranty incl. motor, lighting, controls

Cons

  • Headline 900 CFM ductless claim
  • Duct size not stated
  • Width field 29.53 in leaves little shell clearance if it is the body
  • 79 dB at max speed
  • Cutout figures not printed
  • Unverifiable 42% efficiency claim

Best for: A ducted build that wants touch, gesture and remote control and tunable light, with the shell marked from the supplied template.

10. ONEEON Range Hood Insert 30″, 500 CFM, Stainless Steel Built-in, Q3-30 — Best for Small Kitchens

Brushed silver range hood insert with two square LED lights and a simple button panel on the front lip

A plain 500 CFM liner with a Silent mode, and no word on ducts or ductless.

Key Specifications

Cutout Not stated
Body 28.0 x 11.8 x 10.6 in (spec table)
Max airflow 500 CFM
Duct / vent Not stated
Ducted / ductless Not stated
Noise Silent mode; no figure
Controls 4 speeds: High, Mid, Low, Silent
Lights 2 x 5W LED, adjustable
Steel 430 grade brushed stainless
Listed weight 20.94 pounds
Warranty 1-year
Best Sellers Rank #1,740 overall; #321 in Range Hoods

Why We Recommend It

This is the quietest-sounding listing with the fewest facts. “Enjoy up to 500 CFM air flow with 4-speed control options including High, Mid, Low, and our newly added Silent mode for peaceful cooking.” A dedicated quiet speed is a sensible feature for an open-plan flat. The listing gives no decibel figure for it, or for any other speed.

It says nothing about ducting at all. No duct size, no vent collar, no ducted or ductless statement, no charcoal filter. Every other insert on the page addresses at least one of those. If you have no outside vent, you cannot tell from this listing whether the ONEEON can recirculate. If you do, you cannot tell what duct to run. Both are questions for the seller before you order. At 500 CFM, the claim sits between the Lumin’s 380 and the 600 CFM group, and through a 6-inch duct it would mean air moving at about 2,550 feet per minute at full rating, by our arithmetic.

The body is listed and the cutout is not. The spec table gives 28.0 by 11.8 by 10.6 inches: the same width as the JOEAONZ body and the same depth as the IKTCH. That puts it squarely in the size class of the rest of the page. The listing’s fit claim is general: “Our sleek 30 inch design ensures efficient performance without taking up too much space, making it perfect for condos and apartments.”

The lights are the brightest stated wattage. “2 adjustable 5W LED lights, providing brighter and more even lighting for your cooking area.” Ten watts of LED in total, against IKTCH’s two 3W lamps and the Lumin’s 1.5W units. Wattage is not brightness, and no lumen figure is given, but more LED power usually means more light. The steel is “durable 430 grade brushed stainless steel”.

What to weigh. It is sold by ONEEON and ranks #1,740 overall and #321 in Range Hoods, the lowest on the page by a wide margin. It lists 20.94 pounds and a 1-year guarantee. No filter type is described. On the listings alone, the Hermitlux offers more airflow, stated filters, a stated vent and a plug in a similar build; the ONEEON’s case is its Silent mode and its brighter lights.

Pros

  • Silent mode as a fourth speed
  • 2 x 5W adjustable LEDs, the highest stated wattage
  • 500 CFM, a middle figure for small kitchens
  • 430 grade brushed stainless
  • Body dimensions listed
  • 20.94 lb listed weight

Cons

  • No duct size or vent collar stated
  • No ducted or ductless statement
  • No decibel figures
  • Filters not described
  • Cutout not stated
  • #1,740 overall, the lowest rank here

Best for: A small, open-plan kitchen with an existing duct where a dedicated quiet speed matters more than documentation.

Two Cutouts in Ten Listings

An insert hangs from its own flange. The body drops through an opening in the bottom of the hood shell or cabinet, and the lip around it rests on, or screws to, the timber around the hole. Too small and it will not go in. Too big and there is nothing for the flange to grip. That is why a sink or cooktop listing prints a cutout, and why the figure is the first thing a carpenter asks for. Here is what each of the ten gives.

Insert Cutout as stated Body as stated Flange each side (ours)
Zomagas 26 x 10.2 in (W x D) 27.8 x 11.5 x 10.3 in About 0.9 in wide, 0.65 in deep
JOEAONZ 26 x 10.2 in, “recommended” 28 in long; depth not in bullets About 1 in wide; depth unknown
AURAKICH Template supplied, no figures Fields: 29.53 x 11.22 x 11.81 in —
Cosmo Lumin Not stated 27.8 x 11.5 x 11.4 in —
FIREGAS Not stated 27.8 x 11.5 x 10.3 in —
Hermitlux Not stated 27.76 x 11.38 x 11.46 in; height 10.24 in in spec table —
IKTCH Not stated 27.75 x 11.8 x 11.4 in —
ONEEON Not stated 28.0 x 11.8 x 10.6 in —
Hauslane Not stated 11.25 in deep; width field 35.25 in, not credible —
VEVOR Not stated Fields 30.0 x 18.5 x 17.4 in, likely carton —

The two printed cutouts are identical. Zomagas and JOEAONZ both say 26 by 10.2 inches. Their bodies differ slightly, 27.8 against 28 inches long, so the flange differs slightly too, about 0.9 against about an inch a side, by our arithmetic. Either way, the ledge is narrow. A shell opening that is half an inch too wide overall takes away roughly a quarter of an inch from each side, which on the Zomagas is more than a quarter of its ledge.

Five bodies are nearly the same box. Zomagas, Cosmo Lumin and FIREGAS list 27.8 by 11.5 inches. Hermitlux lists 27.76 by 11.46. IKTCH lists 27.75 by 11.8. Converted, the common figure is about 706 by 292 millimetres, by our arithmetic. It is tempting to read the Zomagas cutout across all five. Do not. Flange widths, screw positions and the location of the vent collar can differ between bodies of the same outside size, and only one of the five commits to an opening.

Three listings give fields that cannot be cut to. The VEVOR’s 30 by 18.5 by 17.4 inches and 42 pounds, the Hauslane’s 35.25 inch width and the JOEAONZ spec table’s 30.31 inch width are all wider than the hood they are sold for or far deeper than any other body here. These are almost certainly carton sizes, though no listing says so. They are a reminder to read the bullet, not the spec table, for a fitting dimension.

The practical order is manual, then shell. For eight of these ten, the cutout lives in the installation manual, not the listing. Order the insert first, or download the manual from the brand before ordering, and give the carpenter the manual’s figure, not a figure from a similar-looking listing. Build the opening a fraction tight and trim to fit; you can take timber away, but you cannot put it back. If you are fitting the insert into an existing cabinet rather than a custom hood, our cabinet range hood roundup covers the cabinet-mounted alternatives.

A white kitchen with a cabinet-style hood above the range
The flange on a stated 26-inch cutout is about an inch a side; cut tight and trim.

900 CFM, and Not a Word About the Duct

Airflow is what range hood listings sell, and every insert here except Hauslane prints a maximum. The figure only means something next to the duct that has to carry it. Here are the claims and the duct sizes side by side, with the air speed a full-rated flow would need through a 6-inch round duct. The last column is our arithmetic: rated CFM divided by the 0.196 square feet of a 6-inch circle. It is a way to compare claims, not a measure of what any hood does in a real run.

Insert Max CFM claimed Duct or vent stated Air speed in a 6 in duct at full rating (ours)
IKTCH 900 Not stated About 4,580 ft/min
AURAKICH 900 Not stated About 4,580 ft/min
VEVOR 900 Not stated About 4,580 ft/min
Zomagas 600 5.9 in round collar; 6 in duct About 3,060 ft/min
FIREGAS 600 5.9 in collar; fits 6 in duct About 3,060 ft/min
Hermitlux 600 5.91 in vent hole About 3,060 ft/min
JOEAONZ 600 Not stated About 3,060 ft/min
ONEEON 500 Not stated About 2,550 ft/min
Cosmo Lumin 380 5.9 in round About 1,940 ft/min
Hauslane Not stated Fits 6 in duct —

Every stated duct is about six inches. Five listings give one: 5.9 inch on Zomagas, FIREGAS and the Cosmo Lumin, 5.91 inch on Hermitlux, and 6 inch on Hauslane, with Zomagas and FIREGAS also saying 6 inch in another bullet. Converted, 5.9 and 5.91 inches are about 150 millimetres. The hood collar is metric and the duct it feeds is the US 6-inch round. A 6-inch duct has about 28.3 square inches of opening, by our arithmetic.

And every listing that states a duct claims 600 CFM or less. The three 900 CFM listings, IKTCH, AURAKICH and VEVOR, are the three that leave the duct blank. We cannot tell from the listings whether their collars are six inches, larger, or adaptable. What the table shows is that a full 900 CFM through a 6-inch duct would need air about half as fast again as 600 CFM through the same duct. Faster air means more resistance and more noise in the duct, and in practice a hood delivers less than its rating once it is pushing through real ductwork with bends and a wall or roof cap. Hood makers commonly specify a larger duct for higher-airflow models, and the manual will say what each one expects.

How much airflow does a 30-inch cooktop need? Rules of thumb vary. A common one for gas is about 100 CFM for every 10,000 BTU of total burner output; for electric, about 10 CFM per inch of cooktop width, which for 30 inches is about 300 CFM by that rule. By either measure, the 380 to 600 CFM claims on this page cover most 30-inch home cooktops, and the 900 CFM claims are aimed at heavy searing, wok cooking or high-output gas ranges. If your cooktop is modest, the duct you can actually run matters more than the top number.

High airflow brings make-up air into play. A hood that pulls a lot of air out of a tight house has to let the same amount back in from somewhere. In some areas, building rules require a make-up air supply for kitchen hoods above a certain airflow, and fuel-burning appliances nearby can be affected if the house is depressurised. We do not cite code numbers here, because they vary by place and change. If you are looking at the 900 CFM inserts, check local requirements and the hood manual before you choose, and our 36-inch range hood roundup covers the same question for wider hoods.

What Ductless Really Does

Eight of the ten call themselves convertible. One, the Cosmo Lumin, is ducted only, and one, the ONEEON, does not say. Convertible means the hood can blow its air through a duct to the outside, or, with charcoal filters fitted, back into the kitchen. The second mode is recirculation, and it is worth being clear about what it does.

  • Charcoal included: AURAKICH (filters and pipe), FIREGAS (CC170), Hermitlux (two filters). VEVOR describes a charcoal filter as part of its “double-layer filtration” and includes a 1.5m duct.
  • Charcoal sold separately: Zomagas (CFZMG13), JOEAONZ (YYCF02) and Hauslane.
  • Ductless claimed, filters not mentioned: IKTCH, in its title only.
  • Ducted only: Cosmo Lumin. Not stated: ONEEON.

Recirculation removes grease and some odour, and nothing else. The baffle or mesh filters catch grease droplets. The charcoal adsorbs some smells. Then the air comes back into the room at the temperature and humidity it left the pan. Heat from the burners and steam from the pots stay in the kitchen. Combustion by-products from a gas flame are not removed by a charcoal filter either. That is general physics, not a fault of any listing, and it is why a ducted installation is the better choice wherever an outside vent is possible.

CFM claims are ducted claims. No listing here gives an airflow figure for ductless mode. Charcoal filters add resistance, so the fan moves less air with them fitted, and a recirculating hood is moving the same air round the room rather than replacing it. AURAKICH’s “900CFM ductless vent hood” and VEVOR’s “fully-filtered fresh air can be circulated indoors” are the two claims on the page that most invite a misreading. Our recirculating range hood roundup and ductless range hood guide go further into what recirculating hoods can and cannot do.

Charcoal is a consumable. Baffle filters wash in the dishwasher and last. Charcoal filters saturate and are replaced, typically every few months depending on use, and the part numbers here are brand-specific. Before choosing an insert for a ductless kitchen, check that its replacement charcoal filters are easy to find. Our range hood filter guide covers filter types and replacement.

Noise as Stated

Eight listings give at least one decibel figure. None says how far from the hood, at what speed in a duct, or under what conditions it was measured, so treat these as the seller’s claims, not comparable measurements.

Insert Max CFM Lowest speed Highest speed
FIREGAS 600 Not stated Less than 57 dB
Hermitlux 600 Not stated Less than 62 dB
VEVOR 900 Not stated 62 dB
Zomagas 600 Not stated 65 dB
IKTCH 900 40 dB 65 dB
AURAKICH 900 49 dB About 79 dB
Cosmo Lumin 380 As low as 45 dB, rigid duct Not stated
ONEEON 500 “Silent mode”, no figure Not stated
JOEAONZ 600 Not stated Not stated
Hauslane Not stated “Low Noise”, no figure Not stated

The figures do not follow the airflow. Three near-identical 600 CFM bodies claim 57, 62 and 65 dB at high speed. Two 900 CFM inserts claim 62 and 65 dB; the third claims about 79. As a general rule, 10 dB higher sounds roughly twice as loud, so a 22 dB spread across the page is enormous, and it is more likely to reflect different ways of measuring than different hoods. The one listing that ties its figure to conditions, the Cosmo Lumin, says its 45 dB needs rigid duct “under optimal conditions”. That is the honest framing for all of them.

The duct is part of the noise. Fan noise comes through the filters into the kitchen; air noise comes from the duct, and it rises with air speed. A high-CFM hood pushed through a small or long duct will be louder than its listing suggests. Smooth rigid duct, as short and straight as the building allows, helps every hood on this page.

Which Brand Documents Its Insert Best

For the buyer searching the best brand range hood insert, the listings offer no quality test to compare. What they do offer is a record of what each brand is willing to put in writing. The table sets out the six facts that matter most for an insert you are going to build in and keep.

Brand Cutout Duct size Plug stated Safety listing Warranty stated
Zomagas Yes Yes No No No
JOEAONZ Yes No No No 2 years
Cosmo (Lumin) No Yes Yes ETL 2-year limited
Hermitlux No Yes Yes, 46 in cord No 1 year
FIREGAS No Yes Yes No No
Hauslane No Yes No No 2-year limited; lifetime motor
IKTCH No No No No 10-year motor; 5-year switch and LED
AURAKICH Template No No No 2 years
VEVOR No No No ETL No
ONEEON No No No No 1 year

No brand ticks every box. Zomagas is the only one with both a cutout and a duct size. Cosmo is the only one with a duct size, a plug, a safety listing and a warranty together, and it is the only listing to give a steel gauge. IKTCH and Hauslane give the strongest motor terms. VEVOR and Cosmo are the two stated as ETL listed, and the two sold by Amazon.com. ONEEON documents the least.

Warranty terms differ more than any spec. From nothing stated on three listings, through one year on Hermitlux and ONEEON and two years on Cosmo, AURAKICH, JOEAONZ and Hauslane, to ten years on the IKTCH motor and a lifetime on the Hauslane motor. An insert is built in; replacing it means opening the shell. A long motor term is worth more on an insert than on a hood you can lift off the wall.

Every stated duct here is about six inches, and none of the 900 CFM listings names one.

Looking for the Best 36 Inch Range Hood Insert?

Every listing on this page is a 30-inch insert. Several of these brands also sell 36-inch versions of their inserts, but none of the ten listings captured here names a 36-inch model or gives its specifications, so we do not quote any 36-inch figures. The same principles carry over. A 36-inch insert has its own cutout, which should be taken from its own manual, not scaled from a 30-inch one. Wider hoods are usually paired with bigger cooktops and higher airflow claims, which makes the duct question and the make-up air question more pressing, not less. And the shell has to be built to the insert, not the other way round. Our 36-inch range hood roundup compares wider hoods directly.

Best Alternatives

Alternative Why Consider It Better For Main Trade-Off
An under-cabinet hood Mounts below a standard wall cabinet; no shell to build Kitchens without a custom hood Visible appliance rather than hidden liner
A wall-mount chimney hood Self-contained, with its own canopy and chimney cover Open walls with no cabinet above Fixed style; not a custom look
A slide-out or pull-out hood Hides inside a cabinet and pulls forward to run Small kitchens that want a clean line Lower airflow claims and a smaller capture area
A ductless recirculating hood No duct to run; installs anywhere with power Flats and rentals without an outside wall Removes no heat or steam

What the Step Up Buys

The plain 600 CFM liners — Hermitlux, FIREGAS, Zomagas, JOEAONZ. Push-button controls, baffle filters and a 6-inch duct where stated. The step from Hermitlux to FIREGAS buys a better rank and a lower noise claim; to Zomagas, a printed cutout and the second-best rank; to JOEAONZ, a cutout, a black finish and a 2-year warranty. All four are the budget and lower-middle end of the page.

The documented low-airflow liner — Cosmo Lumin. Stepping across to the Lumin buys ETL listing, a stated steel gauge, a plug, a 2-year limited warranty and Amazon.com as seller, and gives up a third of the airflow and the ductless option. It is the choice for a ducted kitchen that values paperwork over peak numbers.

The 900 CFM inserts — VEVOR, AURAKICH, IKTCH. Stepping up to 900 CFM buys more controls (touch, remote, gesture), more lighting options and, on the IKTCH, the longest warranty and best rank on the page. None of the three states a duct size, and none prints a cutout, so the step up in airflow is also a step up in questions for the manual and the installer.

The outliers — Hauslane and ONEEON. Hauslane buys a lifetime motor term and standard GU10 bulbs, with no airflow figure. ONEEON buys a Silent mode and the brightest stated LEDs, with no ducting information at all.

Paperwork does not track cost. The lowest-priced insert here, the Hermitlux, documents more of what you need in the box than several that cost more. The highest-priced, the IKTCH, gives the best warranty and no duct size. On this page, you pay for airflow claims, controls and warranty terms; the fitting dimensions you often have to find for yourself.

What to Check Before You Buy

Get the Cutout in Writing

Two listings print one, both 26 by 10.2 inches: Zomagas and JOEAONZ. AURAKICH supplies a template. For the other seven, the opening is in the installation manual. Download it, or ask the seller for it, before the shell is built, and never borrow a cutout from a listing with a similar-looking body.

Read the Body From the Bullets, Not the Spec Table

Spec-table fields can be carton sizes. The VEVOR’s 30 by 18.5 by 17.4 inches, the Hauslane’s 35.25 inch width and the JOEAONZ table’s 30.31 inch width cannot describe an insert body for a 30-inch opening. Where a bullet and a table disagree, as on the Zomagas and Hermitlux heights, plan for the larger figure.

Match the Airflow to a Duct You Can Run

Every stated duct here is about 6 inches, and every listing that states one claims 600 CFM or less. If you want a 900 CFM insert, ask for its collar size and recommended duct first. Use rigid, smooth duct, keep the run short with few bends, and vent to the outside, never into a loft or wall cavity.

Decide Ducted or Ductless Before You Choose

Ductless mode returns filtered air to the kitchen and does not remove heat or steam. If you must recirculate, pick an insert with charcoal filters included (AURAKICH, FIREGAS, Hermitlux, VEVOR) or budget for them (Zomagas, JOEAONZ, Hauslane), and confirm replacements are easy to buy. The Cosmo Lumin cannot recirculate.

Check the Power Connection

Three listings state a 120V 3-prong plug: Cosmo Lumin, FIREGAS and Hermitlux, which also gives a 46 inch cord. The rest do not say. Plan an outlet inside the shell where the manual specifies it. If the insert has to be hardwired, or the circuit needs work, that may need a licensed electrician, depending on where you live.

Ask About Make-Up Air for High-CFM Hoods

In some areas, building rules require a make-up air supply for kitchen hoods above a certain airflow, and a powerful hood can affect fuel-burning appliances in a tight house. Rules vary by place. Check local requirements before you commit to one of the 900 CFM inserts, and follow the hood manual for clearances and installation.

Compare Warranty Terms for a Built-In

Terms here run from not stated (Zomagas, FIREGAS, VEVOR) through one year (Hermitlux, ONEEON) and two years (Cosmo, AURAKICH, JOEAONZ, Hauslane) to a 10-year motor term (IKTCH) and a lifetime motor term (Hauslane). An insert sits inside a shell; a longer motor term saves dismantling the hood later.

A black gas cooktop set into a stone counter
Ductless mode filters grease and odour, but the heat and steam stay in the kitchen.

Common Mistakes

  • Cutting the shell before the insert or its manual arrives. Only two of ten listings print a cutout, 26 x 10.2 in; the other eight leave the opening to the manual.
  • Borrowing a cutout from a look-alike body. Five listings give a body of about 27.8 x 11.5 in, and only Zomagas commits to an opening.
  • Reading a carton size as the hood. The VEVOR fields read 30 x 18.5 x 17.4 in at 42.0 lb; no insert that size fits a 30-inch shell.
  • Buying 900 CFM without asking about the duct. All three 900 CFM listings leave the duct size blank; every stated duct here is about 6 in.
  • Expecting ductless mode to clear heat and steam. Recirculation returns filtered air to the room; no listing gives a ductless CFM figure.
  • Forgetting the charcoal filters. Zomagas, JOEAONZ and Hauslane sell them separately, so a ductless install needs an extra order.
  • Choosing on decibels alone. Three near-identical 600 CFM bodies claim 57, 62 and 65 dB, with no measuring conditions given.
  • Ignoring power and make-up air. Seven listings do not state a plug, and high-CFM hoods can fall under make-up air rules in some areas.

Who Should Buy Which

Buy the Zomagas if a carpenter is building your hood shell. It is the only listing that gives the cutout (26 x 10.2 in), the body (27.8 x 11.5 x 10.3 in) and the duct (5.9 in collar, 6 in duct) together, at 600 CFM, and it ranks #138 overall. Accept that charcoal filters are extra, no warranty is stated and the height fields disagree.

Buy the Hermitlux if you want the most in the box for the least money. 600 CFM, a 5.91 in vent, two charcoal filters, two baffle filters and a 46 in plug cord. Accept a 1-year warranty and a cutout you will take from the manual.

Buy the IKTCH if you have a duct run built for high airflow and want the longest warranty. 900 CFM, 40 to 65 dB stated, remote and gesture control, and a 10-year motor replacement term, with the best rank on the page. Ask for the duct size before you order.

Buy the JOEAONZ if your hood is dark and you want the liner to disappear. Matte black, a printed 26 x 10.2 in cutout and a 2-year warranty. Accept that the duct size and noise level are not stated.

Buy the Cosmo Lumin Collection if you value documentation over airflow and you have a duct. ETL listed, 26-gauge 430 steel, 120V plug, 5.9 in duct, 2-year limited warranty, sold by Amazon.com. Accept 380 CFM and no ductless option.

Buy the FIREGAS if the quietest stated top speed matters. Under 57 dB at high on a 600 CFM body, with a carbon filter included and a plug stated. Accept no warranty statement and no cutout.

Buy the Hauslane if a lifetime motor term and standard bulbs matter more than a CFM figure. GU10 lamps you can buy anywhere, a 6 in duct, and an 11.25 in depth. Accept that it prints no airflow at all.

Buy the VEVOR if you want touch, remote and a delayed shutdown from Amazon.com. 900 CFM claimed, three stainless filters plus charcoal, ETL listed. Accept that no listed dimension can be used to plan a shell.

Buy the AURAKICH if you want every control option and adjustable light colour. Touch, gesture and remote, 2800K to 6800K LEDs, charcoal filters and a template included. Accept a candid 79 dB at full speed and a wide body field to check against your shell.

Buy the ONEEON only after the seller confirms its duct and ductless options. 500 CFM with a Silent mode and 10W of LED. As listed, it says nothing about either.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best range hood insert for a 30-inch hood?

For most custom hood builds, the Zomagas 30-inch insert. It is the only one of the ten listings here that states its install cutout, 26 by 10.2 inches, alongside its body dimensions of 27.8 by 11.5 by 10.3 inches and a 5.9 inch round vent for a 6-inch duct. That is everything a carpenter needs to plan the shell, and it pairs a 600 CFM claim with a duct size that suits it. It ranks #138 overall and #15 in Range Hoods. Its weaknesses are that charcoal filters for ductless use are sold separately and no warranty is stated. On a budget, the Hermitlux includes charcoal filters and a plug cord. For the most airflow and the longest warranty, the IKTCH claims 900 CFM with a 10-year motor term, but ask for its duct size first.

What size cutout does a 30-inch range hood insert need?

It depends on the insert, which is why the cutout should come from that insert’s own documentation. Only two of the ten listings here print one. Zomagas gives 26 by 10.2 inches, width by depth. JOEAONZ gives a recommended 26 by 10.2 inches as well. AURAKICH supplies a positioning template but prints no figures. The other seven leave the opening to the installation manual. Bodies on this page are mostly about 27.75 to 28 inches wide and 11.5 to 11.8 inches deep, so a cutout around two inches narrower than the body is typical of the two that state one, leaving roughly an inch of flange each side by our arithmetic. Do not borrow one brand’s figure for another, even where the bodies match. Build the opening slightly tight and trim to fit.

How many CFM do I need for a 30-inch range hood insert?

For most 30-inch home cooktops, something in the 380 to 600 CFM range claimed on this page is plenty. A common rule of thumb for gas cooking is about 100 CFM for every 10,000 BTU of total burner output, and for electric about 10 CFM per inch of cooktop width, around 300 CFM for 30 inches. The 900 CFM inserts here, from IKTCH, AURAKICH and VEVOR, are aimed at heavy searing, wok cooking or high-output gas ranges. More important than the top number is the duct. Every listing here that states a duct size says about 6 inches, and every one claims 600 CFM or less. The three 900 CFM listings do not say what duct they need. A high figure through a small or long duct delivers less than its rating and makes more noise, and very high airflow can bring make-up air rules into play in some areas.

Can a range hood insert be ductless?

Eight of the ten inserts here say they can convert to ductless, using charcoal filters. AURAKICH, FIREGAS and Hermitlux include them; VEVOR describes a charcoal filter as part of its filtration; Zomagas, JOEAONZ and Hauslane sell them separately; IKTCH claims ductless in its title without mentioning filters. The Cosmo Lumin is ducted only, and the ONEEON does not say. Understand what ductless means before relying on it. The hood pulls air through the grease filters and the charcoal and blows it back into the kitchen. That traps grease and some odour, but it removes no heat, no steam and no combustion by-products from a gas flame. No listing here gives an airflow figure for ductless mode, and charcoal filters need regular replacement. Wherever an outside vent is possible, ducted is the better choice.

Does a range hood insert need to be hardwired?

Some come with a plug and some are wired directly, and the listing does not always say which. Three inserts here state a 120V 3-prong plug: the Cosmo Lumin Collection, FIREGAS and Hermitlux, which also gives a 46 inch cord. The other seven listings do not state the connection. With a plug, you need an outlet inside the hood shell, placed where the manual says and reachable by the cord, before the shell is closed. If the insert is hardwired, or a new circuit or outlet is needed, the work may need a licensed electrician, depending on local rules. Either way, check the manual for the electrical requirements before the shell is built, because adding an outlet inside a finished hood is far harder than planning one in.

What is the best brand of range hood insert?

The listings cannot tell you which brand builds best, but they do show which documents best. Cosmo, with the Lumin Collection, is the most thorough: ETL listed, a stated 26-gauge 430 steel, a 120V plug, a 5.9 inch duct size and a 2-year limited warranty, sold by Amazon.com, though it claims only 380 CFM and is ducted only. Zomagas is the only brand to print both a cutout and a duct size. IKTCH gives the longest motor term among the brands with a stated airflow, 10 years, plus 5 years on switches and lights. Hauslane offers a lifetime motor warranty but no CFM figure. VEVOR is the other ETL-listed insert. If documentation is how you judge a brand, Cosmo and Zomagas lead; if warranty is, IKTCH and Hauslane do.

Is there a good 36-inch range hood insert?

This roundup covers 30-inch inserts only, and none of the ten listings captured here names a 36-inch model or gives its specifications, so we do not quote any. Several of these brands do sell 36-inch versions of their inserts. If you need one, apply the same checks as this page. Get the cutout from the 36-inch model’s own manual rather than scaling a 30-inch figure. Look for a stated duct size next to the airflow claim, since wider hoods usually claim more CFM. Decide ducted or ductless before you choose, and check whether charcoal filters are included. Confirm the power connection and the warranty term. And with higher airflow, check whether make-up air rules apply where you live. Our 36-inch range hood roundup compares wider hoods directly.

Are range hood insert noise ratings reliable?

Treat them as claims, not comparable measurements. Eight of the ten listings here give at least one decibel figure, and none says how far from the hood, at which speed in a duct or under what conditions it was measured. The spread shows why that matters. Three near-identical 600 CFM bodies, from FIREGAS, Hermitlux and Zomagas, claim less than 57, less than 62 and 65 dB at high speed. The three 900 CFM inserts claim 62, 65 and about 79 dB. As a general rule, 10 dB higher sounds about twice as loud, so differences that large probably reflect different measuring methods as much as different hoods. The Cosmo Lumin is the one listing that ties its 45 dB low-speed figure to rigid ducting under optimal conditions, which is the honest framing. Duct size and length affect noise on every hood here.

Final Verdict

Best OverallZomagas 30-Inch Range Hood Insert, 600 CFM

The only listing with cutout, body and duct size together: 26 x 10.2 in, 27.8 x 11.5 in, 5.9 in collar.

Best BudgetHermitlux 30-Inch Built-in Insert, 600 CFM

Two charcoal filters, a 5.91 in vent and a 46 in plug cord in the box, for the lowest price here.

Best PremiumIKTCH 30-Inch Insert Range Hood, 900 CFM

Best rank at #110, 900 CFM and a 10-year motor term; ask for the duct size before you order.

A range hood insert is built into a hole you cut, and only two of these ten listings tell you how big to make it. Zomagas and JOEAONZ both print 26 by 10.2 inches. AURAKICH supplies a template. The other seven leave the opening to the manual, and five of the ten share a body of about 27.8 by 11.5 inches that makes it tempting, and risky, to borrow one brand’s cutout for another.

The biggest airflow claims come with the least information about the duct. Every listing that states a duct says about six inches and claims 600 CFM or less. IKTCH, AURAKICH and VEVOR claim 900 CFM and leave the duct blank. Ductless mode, offered on eight of ten, recirculates filtered air and removes no heat or steam, whatever the CFM figure says.

So plan an insert in the order the work happens. Get the cutout and the body from the bullets or the manual, not the spec table. Match the airflow to a duct you can actually run, and check whether make-up air rules apply to a high-CFM hood where you live. Decide ducted or ductless, and whether the charcoal filters are in the box. Plan the outlet, or an electrician for hardwiring, before the shell closes. Then compare warranties, because an insert is harder to replace than a hood on the wall.

If you buy one insert from this page, make it the Zomagas: the only listing that gives you the cutout, the body and the duct size together, with a 600 CFM claim that suits a 6-inch duct and the second-best rank on the page. If budget comes first, the Hermitlux puts the ductless filters and a plug in the box; if you have the duct for it and want the longest warranty, the IKTCH claims 900 CFM with a 10-year motor term.
