Your Hood’s Part Number Names the Best Range Hood Filter

A range hood filter is not a thing you choose the way you choose a hood. The hood has already chosen. It has a slot of a fixed size, a clip or a latch in a fixed place, and a fan that is either pushing air out through a duct or pulling it through a filter and back into the room. A replacement filter is the best one only if it drops into that slot and does the job that slot was designed for. Everything else on a listing comes second.

Seven of the ten filters on this page are sold that way, by part number. Their titles read like a parts catalogue: “97007696 Fits Nutone Broan”, “BPS1FA30 Fits Nutone Broan”, “BPQTAF S99010316 Compatible with Broan”, “Whirlpool W10169961A Genuine OEM Grease Filter”. Each gives a size in inches, and most give a list of older part numbers they replace. The longest list, on the Bagean 97006931, runs to more than a dozen numbers.

The other three are not part-number filters at all. The Elesunory is two 10-metre rolls of non-woven fabric with adhesive strips and magnets, sold as a liner you cut and stick over a hood’s own filter. The Fresh Headquarters is a 16 by 48 inch activated carbon pad marketed first for air vents and furnaces, with the range hood named alongside them. And the VBENLEM is a pack of 19.5 by 19.5 inch stainless steel baffles made, in its own words, for “Grease Rated Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Hoods”. That is a commercial size. Most home hoods will not take it.

The three filter types do three different jobs. Aluminium mesh grease filters catch grease and are, on the listings that say so, washed and reused; three here say dishwasher safe. A stainless baffle catches grease by forcing the air to change direction and is the commercial standard. A charcoal or carbon filter sits behind the grease filter on a ductless, recirculating hood and absorbs odour before the air comes back into the kitchen. On this page, two filters combine a grease mesh and a charcoal layer in one panel, and one is a round charcoal-only part.

The listings do not agree on whether carbon can be washed. Air Filter Factory says plainly: “filters containing activated charcoal carbon cannot be washed”, and puts the replacement interval at 6 to 9 months. The Fresh Headquarters carbon pad says its material “can be washed and reused multiple times”. The two are different products, and we report both claims as stated; the general rule is that charcoal is replaced, not washed, unless the listing for your filter says otherwise.

And the fit claims vary from exact to vague. Air Filter Factory prints a thickness to the sixteenth of an inch and a cross-reference of thirty model numbers. Whirlpool’s grease filter names one hood, the JXW6036WR. Whirlpool’s charcoal filter says only “COMPATIBLE WITH several major brands”. Elesunory says “Suitable for 99% range hoods on the market”. None of those can replace reading your own hood’s manual or the part number printed on the filter you are taking out.

So this guide is built around matching. For each of the ten we list the stated dimensions, every part number the listing says it replaces, the filter type and what the listing says about cleaning, and we flag every place where two fields disagree. We claim no compatibility a listing does not state. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only.

All ten were captured on 5 October 2026. Three Bagean part-number filters hold the top three category ranks on the page, #1, #2 and #3 in Filters, and the Air Filter Factory is #4.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. Sizes are quoted as each listing states them in its title or bullets. Several spec tables give slightly different figures, and those conflicts are set out in the detail cards: the KEYTEAM’s spec table reads 11.22 x 11.61 inches against a stated 11-1/4 x 11-3/4; the VBENLEM’s Size field reads 20 x 20 x 2 inches against a stated 19.5 x 19.5; the Whirlpool W10272068’s Size field reads 2.8 x 16 x 7 inches, which cannot describe a round filter about 7-5/8 inches across and is most likely packaging. Part-number counts are ours, from each listing’s own replacement list; duplicate entries in a list are counted once. Ranks are category ranks as returned on 5 October 2026; Amazon files nine of the ten in Filters and the carbon pad in Air Purifier Filters, so its rank is not comparable. Overall ranks are in the detail cards. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for any product here.

How We Chose These Ten

We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read each listing’s fit claims, part numbers, dimensions and cleaning instructions line by line. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these filters.

  • Replacement filters and liners only — every product here is a filter or filter material sold for a range hood, not a hood. We included all three filter types, aluminium mesh grease, stainless baffle and charcoal or carbon, plus two liner products for the secondary search, range hood liners.
  • Part numbers copied exactly — every number a listing says it replaces is quoted as printed, including obvious duplicates and one case where the title and the bullets disagree. We did not add numbers from any outside cross-reference.
  • No compatibility beyond the listing — where a listing names a hood series or a model, we quote it. Where it names a brand only, or nothing, we say so. We have not assumed that a filter fits any hood the listing does not name.
  • Dimensions as stated, conflicts reported — we quote the size from the title or bullets, and set the spec-table figure beside it wherever the two differ. Conversions from fractions to decimals, and areas, are our arithmetic and labelled as such.
  • Cleaning only where stated — dishwasher safe, hand wash or cannot be washed appear only where a listing says so. Where it is silent, we mark it not stated.
  • Fire and heat ratings only where stated — one listing makes a flame-shield claim. The two liner products give no fire or heat rating, and we say that plainly.
  • Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only — ranks are quoted exactly as returned on 5 October 2026. Ranks move constantly.
  • Verified stock and seller — each product was the buy-box offer on amazon.com on 5 October 2026. The KEYTEAM was flagged as scarce stock at capture.

Why We Recommend It

This is the cleanest match on the page between what a listing promises and what it can be held to. It is an aluminium grease filter, and it says what it replaces in a single bullet: “This range hood filter 10 1/2 x 8 3/4 inch replaces Nutone and Broan range hood filters 97006931 BP29 S97006931 5-3078 88150 97006931 99010121 C88150 S5-3078 S88150 S99010121 and SC88150”. That list names 97006931 twice; counted once, it is 11 distinct identifiers by our count, including BP29, the model name the spec table also uses. If any one of them is printed on the filter you are pulling out, or in your hood’s manual, this listing claims to replace it.

It is for ducted hoods. The first bullet says it will “protect your ducted Broan range hood vent from grease”. There is no charcoal layer, so it does nothing for odour on a recirculating hood; for that you want a combo filter such as the Air Filter Factory or the Bagean 97007696 further down. That distinction matters more than any other on this page. A plain aluminium mesh on a ductless hood catches grease and sends the smell straight back into the room.

Cleaning is stated clearly. “This aluminum hood vent filter is dishwasher safe! You can also wash the range oven filter by soaking it in baking soda and dish soap with hot water for 10 minutes, then scrub and rinse.” That is the practical case for a mesh grease filter: you clean it rather than throw it away, and a clean mesh lets the fan move air as designed. The listing also says the aluminium “won’t rust” and that the frame is “reinforced to withstand heavy use”.

The thickness is the one figure to check, and the listing gives two. The height field says 0.15 inches; the Size field says 8.8 x 10.5 x 0.2 inches. The bullets claim the filter is “thicker than the industry standard” without giving a figure for either. In most slide-in hoods a few hundredths of an inch will not matter, but if your original sits tight in its channel, measure it with a ruler before you order. The listing adds an “outdent”, a raised tab, so the filter “doesn’t get stuck” in the hood.

What to weigh. It is sold by Filters & Beyond under the Bagean brand, ranks #6,594 overall and #2 in Filters, and carries a 30-day warranty. It names no hood models, only filter numbers, and says it fits “exactly and perfectly in all hoods that use this model stove overhead vent filter”. That is the right way round: match the filter number, not the hood brand. For a ducted Broan or NuTone hood that takes a 10 1/2 by 8 3/4 inch filter with one of these numbers, it is the best-documented washable choice here.

Pros

  • Names 11 identifiers it replaces, by our count
  • Dishwasher safe, stated
  • Aluminium, stated not to rust
  • Outdent tab for removal
  • Reinforced frame, stated
  • #2 in Filters

Cons

  • No charcoal layer; not for odour on ductless hoods
  • Two thickness figures, 0.15 and 0.2 in
  • “Thicker than the industry standard” with no figure
  • No hood models named
  • 30-day warranty only
  • Single filter per pack

Best for: A ducted Broan or NuTone hood whose filter or manual shows 97006931, BP29 or one of the other listed numbers.

2. Air Filter Factory 8-3/4 x 10-1/2 in Ductless Combo Filter, Replaces Broan NuTone 41F, 97007696 — Best for Ductless Hoods

Rectangular black range hood filter with a metal mesh face and a charcoal backing layer

The most precisely described filter on the page, and the only one that tells you when to replace it.

Key Specifications

Filter type Grease mesh front with charcoal carbon backing; for ductless hoods, stated
Stated size 8-3/4 x 10-1/2 x 7/16 in (8.75 x 10.5 x 0.44 in)

Hood series named 41000-L, 413000, 403000 and 233.51000 series
Model cross-reference 30 models listed, “There Are Many More Models”
Cleaning Cannot be washed, stated
Replace every 6 to 9 months, stated
Made in United States, stated
Seller Air Filter Factory
Best Sellers Rank #15,612 overall; #4 in Filters

Why We Recommend It

If every listing were written like this one, this guide would be short. Air Filter Factory gives the size three ways: “This single replacement filter’s true measurement is 8-3/4” x 10-1/2” x 7/16” (which is often listed as 8.75 x 10.5 x 0.44 inches in user manuals).” It names three part numbers, 41F, 97007696 and 97005687. It names four hood series, the 41000-L, 413000, 403000 and 233.51000. And it then prints a cross-reference of 30 specific model numbers, from 41000-L to 233.5978012, with the note “There Are Many More Models”.

It also tells you how to check. “To guarantee compatibility, please remove your current filter and locate the model tag inside your hood housing before ordering.” And on thickness: “Please measure your current filter’s thickness with a tape measure to ensure a snug, rattle-free installation.” Those two sentences are the method this whole page recommends. The model tag tells you which filter the hood was built for; the tape measure tells you whether the replacement in your hand matches the original.

It is a combo filter for ductless hoods. “Designed specifically for ductless (recirculating) exhaust fans, this premium combo filter features a front grease mesh and a charcoal carbon backing.” The mesh traps oil; the carbon absorbs smoke and odour before the air is returned to the room. On a recirculating hood, that carbon layer is the only thing standing between your cooking smells and the rest of the house. Our recirculating range hood guide explains why a recirculating hood removes odour but not heat.

It is the only listing that is honest about the charcoal’s life. “Unlike standard aluminum-only screens, filters containing activated charcoal carbon cannot be washed. To maintain optimal indoor air quality and prevent strain on your exhaust fan motor, simply remove and replace this filter every 6 to 9 months, depending on your cooking volume.” That works out at between about 1.3 and 2 filters a year, by our arithmetic. A washable filter would be simpler, but carbon does not work that way: once its pores are full, it stops absorbing, and water does not empty them.

What to weigh. It is sold by Air Filter Factory, ranks #15,612 overall and #4 in Filters, and says it is “Proudly manufactured in the United States” and shipped “in reinforced packaging so it arrives completely flat”. No warranty is stated. It covers the same 41F and 97007696 numbers as the Bagean 97007696 below, which holds the better rank; the difference is that this listing gives you the thickness, the model list and the change interval, and the Bagean gives you none of them. For a ductless Broan or NuTone hood that takes a 41F, that documentation is the reason to choose it.

Pros

  • Size stated to 1/16 in, thickness included
  • Three part numbers and four hood series named
  • 30-model cross-reference printed
  • Grease mesh plus charcoal for ductless hoods
  • 6 to 9 month change interval stated
  • Made in the United States, stated

Cons

  • Cannot be washed, stated
  • Ongoing replacement every 6 to 9 months
  • No warranty stated
  • Single filter per pack
  • Charcoal adds nothing on a ducted hood
  • Ranks below the Bagean for the same part

Best for: A ductless Broan or NuTone hood that takes a 41F, 97007696 or 97005687 filter, especially one on the printed model list.

3. Whirlpool W10169961A Genuine OEM Grease Filter for Range Vent Hoods — Best Genuine OEM

Thickness 0.25 in (height field); Size field 12 x 11 x 0.3 in

Pack 1 filter
Warranty Not stated
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #140,566 overall; #136 in Filters

Why We Recommend It

A genuine part is the one filter guaranteed to be the shape the hood was built around, if it is the right number. Whirlpool says W10169961A is “designed specifically for your appliance” and says its parts “meet tested engineering standards”. The listing then gives the supersession list: “ACCESSORY W10169961A replaces 8190858, W10169961, W10833076, W10875058, W10870878 and W11245983”. If your manual or old filter shows any of those six, this is the current part that replaced it.

It names exactly one hood. “W10169961A is compatible with select range vent hoods including JXW6036WR.” That is one model, stated, and the word “including” makes clear there are others it does not list. We claim nothing beyond the JXW6036WR and the six part numbers. If your hood is a different model, check its manual for W10169961A or one of the superseded numbers before ordering.

The size is approximate. “MEASURES approx. 11”W x 12”L”, and the spec table agrees on 11 by 12 inches, with a height of 0.25 inches in one field and 0.3 in the Size field. The word “approx.” is fair warning. The part number is the real specification here; the inches are a cross-check. A filter of about 11 by 12 inches from another maker would not necessarily share the same frame depth, tab position or clip arrangement.

It says nothing about cleaning. The listing says “CONSTRUCTED of durable metal” and does not say aluminium, mesh or baffle, and it gives no dishwasher or hand-wash instruction. Metal grease filters are commonly washed, but this listing does not say so, so follow your hood’s manual. It is a grease filter, not a charcoal filter, so on its own it does nothing for odour on a recirculating hood.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com, which is a reasonable assurance that it is the genuine part. It ranks #140,566 overall and #136 in Filters, well below the aftermarket filters at the top of the page. No warranty is stated. Against an aftermarket filter, the step up buys the hood maker’s own frame and the confidence of a supersession list from the maker itself. If your hood takes W10169961A or one of its predecessors, start here.

Pros

  • Genuine Whirlpool part
  • Six superseded numbers listed
  • Names one hood model, JXW6036WR
  • Sold by Amazon.com

  • Spec table agrees on 11 x 12 in

Cons

  • Cleaning not stated

  • Only one hood model named
  • Mesh or baffle style not stated

Seller Filters & Beyond
Best Sellers Rank #1,415 overall; #1 in Filters

Why We Recommend It

This is the best seller on the page by a wide margin. At #1,415 overall and #1 in Filters, it ranks more than ten times better overall than the Air Filter Factory, which replaces the same part. It is a combo filter: “This charcoal grease filter combo will protect your hood from grease while at the same time filtering out odors through its activated charcoal layer.” It names the hood it is for as “non-ducted” and “ductless” in its bullets.

The fit statement is a part number and a size. “This 8 3/4” x 10 1/2” stove filter vent replacement perfectly replaces the 41F 97007696 S97007696 Broan range hood filter and NuTone kitchen exhaust fan filter.” The spec table gives the model as 41F and the thickness as 0.5 inches. The Air Filter Factory states 7/16 inch, about 0.44 inches, for the same part. That difference is small, and the 0.5 may be a rounded figure, but it is the kind of detail worth measuring on the filter you are replacing.

The brand claim is broader than the part claim. One bullet says the filter “will fit NuTone Allure and Broan range hood filters perfectly”, and then adds “please contact us if you are unsure if this range hood replacement filter will fit your model.” No hood model is named. Not every Broan or NuTone hood takes a 41F, and the BPS1FA30 below is for an Allure series too, at a different size. Read the brand mention as a pointer, and match on 41F, 97007696 or S97007696.

It says nothing about washing or replacement. The listing talks about “long lasting use” and does not say whether the filter can be washed or how often to change it. Because it contains activated charcoal, treat it as a replace-not-wash filter; the Air Filter Factory’s listing for the same part number says carbon “cannot be washed” and gives 6 to 9 months, and that is a sensible starting point here too, by inference, not by this listing’s statement.

What to weigh. It is sold by Filters & Beyond under the Bagean brand, with a 30-day warranty. The spec table lists the manufacturer as “Beagan”, a spelling that differs from the brand, which we report as printed. It has the outdent tab the other Bagean filters share. If you already know your hood takes a 41F and you simply want the most-bought replacement, this is it; if you want the thickness, a model list and a change interval in writing, the Air Filter Factory gives them.

Pros

  • #1 in Filters, best rank on the page
  • Grease and charcoal in one panel
  • Replaces 41F, 97007696 and S97007696
  • Ductless use stated
  • Outdent tab for removal
  • Spec table gives a thickness, 0.5 in

Cons

  • Washing not stated
  • Replacement interval not stated
  • No hood models named
  • Brand claim broader than part claim
  • Thickness differs from the 7/16 in stated elsewhere for the same part
  • 30-day warranty only

Best for: A ductless hood that takes a 41F or 97007696 filter, where you already know the number and want the most-bought replacement.

Why We Recommend It

This is the one listing on the page that names hood series, not just filter numbers. “This stove fan filter replacement fits the Allure QS1 QS2 WS1 30” hood series perfectly.” Those are 30-inch hoods, and if yours is one of them, the match is stated in writing. The same bullet adds “And it also fits the Kenmore range hood filter replacement” without naming a Kenmore model, so we claim nothing for Kenmore hoods beyond that line. Our 30-inch under cabinet range hood guide covers the hoods this size of filter usually sits in.

The part list covers three generations of the same filter. “This 14 5/16” x 11 13/16” stove filter vent replacement perfectly replaces the BPS1FA30 99010299 S99010299 S99010302 BPS2FA30 S99010302 99010305 S99010305 BPS3FA30 and S99010305.” S99010302 and S99010305 each appear twice; counted once, that is eight distinct numbers by our count. The spec table gives the part number as s99010299 and the model as BPS1FA30.

The size is given in fractions, and they convert cleanly. 14 5/16 inches is 14.31 inches and 11 13/16 inches is 11.81 inches, our arithmetic, which matches the title’s rounded 14.3 by 11.8. The filter is about 0.3 inches thick by the spec table. At roughly 169 square inches, by our arithmetic, it is the largest home filter on the page, nearly twice the face area of the 41F filters. That is why a 41F filter will not do here, and why a BPS1FA30 will not fit a 41F slot: the numbers are the sizes.

Cleaning and handling are stated. “Our range hood filters are dishwasher safe! The hood grease filter is also hand washable.” The listing gives the same baking soda soak as its sibling, and a handle: “This filter for exhaust fan comes with a handle which makes it super easy to take out.” At about 14 inches, a large filter is awkward to grip from below a hood, so the handle is a real point.

What to weigh. It is sold by Filters & Beyond, ranks #13,717 overall and #3 in Filters, and carries a 30-day warranty. One thing is unclear: the Number of Items field says 2 and the listed weight, about 0.84 pounds, is roughly what two filters this size might weigh, but the title says nothing about a pack of two. Assume one and be pleased if two arrive, or ask the seller. As a grease filter with no charcoal, it is for ducted use; Allure hoods running ductless need a separate charcoal filter that this listing does not mention.

Pros

  • Names Allure QS1, QS2 and WS1 30 in series
  • Eight distinct part numbers, by our count
  • Dishwasher safe and hand washable, stated
  • Pull handle, stated
  • Fractional size matches the title by our arithmetic
  • #3 in Filters

Cons

  • Pack count unclear: items field 2, title silent
  • Kenmore mentioned with no model
  • No charcoal layer
  • 30-day warranty only
  • “Thicker than the industry standard” with no figure
  • Large and only fits this one slot size

Best for: A ducted Broan Allure QS1, QS2 or WS1 30-inch hood, or any hood that takes BPS1FA30, BPS2FA30 or BPS3FA30.

6. KEYTEAM Stove Hood Vent Filter 11-1/4 x 11-3/4 in, BPQTAF S99010316 Compatible — Best Warranty

Square aluminium range hood grease filter with a layered mesh face and a metal frame

A five-layer aluminium grease filter with the longest warranty on the page and one dimension that does not agree with itself.

Key Specifications

Filter type Aluminium grease filter, five-layer, stated
Stated size 11-1/4 x 11-3/4 x 3/8 in
Spec table size 11.22 x 11.61 x 0.35 in
Replaces 99010316, S99010316, WA65AF, NTK7450000, 990721400A, 990721400, 8558
Title reference BPQTAF S99010316, “Compatible with Broan”
Hood models named None
Cleaning Dishwasher safe, stated; hand washable
Warranty 12 months, household use
Stock at capture Scarce
Seller KEYTEAM
Best Sellers Rank #105,780 overall; #82 in Filters

Why We Recommend It

This listing gives a full three-dimensional size and a clear replacement list. “The product size is 11-1/4” x 11-3/4” x 3/8” inches, This stove vent filter replaces 99010316, S99010316, WA65AF, NTK7450000, 990721400A, 990721400, 8558.” That is seven numbers, several of them from different naming systems, which suggests the same frame has been sold under more than one label. The title adds BPQTAF, the Broan filter name, and says “Compatible with Broan”. No hood model is named.

The spec table disagrees on one side. It gives 11.22 by 11.61 by 0.35 inches. The 11.22 matches 11-1/4 inches, 11.25, closely, and the 0.35 is close to 3/8, 0.375. But 11.61 inches is about 0.14 inches short of 11-3/4, our arithmetic. That is roughly an eighth of an inch, the sort of gap that can make the difference between a filter that sits snugly and one that rattles or will not latch. Measure your existing filter’s long side before ordering, and if it reads 11-3/4, ask the seller which figure is right.

The construction claim is specific. “The unique five-layer filtration structure effectively captures and separates oil fume particles.” It is an aluminium grease filter, so like the Bagean grease filters it is for grease, not odour. On a ducted hood it is a complete solution; on a recirculating hood it would need a charcoal filter behind it, which this listing does not mention.

Cleaning is stated in the same words as the Bagean filters. “Our range hood filters are dishwasher safe! The hood range filter is also hand washable. For an easy wash soak with baking soda and soap in hot water for 10 minutes then scrub and rinse.” The warranty is the real difference. KEYTEAM states 12 months against defects in material and workmanship under normal household use, with proof of purchase required, and excludes improper cleaning with abrasive materials. Every other warranty on the page is 30 days or not stated.

What to weigh. It is sold by KEYTEAM, ranks #105,780 overall and #82 in Filters, and was flagged as scarce stock at capture. Of the part-number filters, it has the strongest written cover. For a ducted hood whose filter shows 99010316, S99010316 or BPQTAF, it is a reasonable choice once you have confirmed the long side.

Pros

  • Full size including thickness, 3/8 in
  • Seven replacement numbers listed
  • 12-month warranty, the longest here
  • Dishwasher safe and hand washable, stated
  • Five-layer construction, stated
  • Aluminium, for grease

Cons

  • Spec table long side 11.61 in vs stated 11.75
  • No hood models named
  • No charcoal layer
  • Scarce stock at capture
  • Lowest rank of the aftermarket part-number filters
  • Warranty excludes abrasive cleaning

Best for: A ducted hood that takes a 99010316, S99010316 or BPQTAF filter, once you have measured the long side.

7. Whirlpool W10272068 Genuine OEM Charcoal Filter — Genuine Charcoal Part

Round black charcoal filter disc with a moulded plastic rim

A genuine round charcoal filter whose listing names no appliance and disagrees with itself on one number.

Key Specifications

Filter type Charcoal, round
Stated size Approx. 7-5/8 in diameter
Size field 2.8 x 16 x 7 in (likely packaging; not a round filter)
Replaces 1550120 (bullet) or 81550120 (title), AH2367296, EA2367296, PS2367296
Appliances named None; “several major brands”
Cleaning Not stated
Replace every Not stated
Warranty Not stated
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #186,489 overall; #218 in Filters

Why We Recommend It

This is the only charcoal-only filter on the page, and the only round one. “MEASURES approximately 7-5/8” dia.” A round charcoal filter is a different part from the flat rectangular panels above it. It sits in its own housing, usually behind or above a grease filter, and it cannot be substituted by any rectangular filter here. If your hood or appliance takes a round charcoal filter, the diameter and the part number are the whole specification.

The listing names no appliance. The title says “Charcoal Filter For Ranges”, and the compatibility bullet says only “COMPATIBLE WITH several major brands”. No brand is named in that line and no model number appears anywhere. We cannot tell you which hoods take it, and we will not guess. Find W10272068, or one of the numbers it replaces, in your appliance’s manual or on the filter you are removing, or do not order it.

Its own replacement list does not agree. The title says it “Replaces 81550120, AH2367296, EA2367296, PS2367296”. The bullet says “ACCESSORY W10272068 replaces 1550120, AH2367296, EA2367296, PS2367296”. One of those has a leading 8 and the other does not. We report both as printed. If your old part shows 81550120 or 1550120, ask the seller to confirm before ordering; the three AH, EA and PS numbers are consistent across both fields.

The other dimensions are not the filter. The Size field says 2.8 by 16 by 7 inches and the weight field 1.89 pounds. A filter about 7-5/8 inches across cannot be 16 inches long, so those fields most likely describe a package, and we do not rely on them. Cleaning and replacement interval are not stated. As a charcoal filter, it should be treated as replaced rather than washed, which is the general rule for activated carbon unless a listing says otherwise; this one does not say.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com, so the genuine part is likely what arrives. It ranks #186,489 overall and #218 in Filters, the lowest on the page. No warranty is stated. Buy it only if your manual or your old filter names W10272068 or one of its replacement numbers. For anything else, it is the wrong shape.

Pros

  • Genuine Whirlpool charcoal part
  • Diameter stated, approx. 7-5/8 in
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • Three consistent cross-reference numbers
  • Only round charcoal filter here
  • Absorbs odour on recirculating setups

Cons

  • No appliance or model named
  • Title and bullet disagree: 81550120 vs 1550120
  • Size field cannot describe the filter
  • Cleaning and change interval not stated
  • No warranty stated
  • Lowest rank on the page

Best for: An appliance whose manual or old filter names W10272068 or one of its listed replacement numbers.

8. Elesunory 2 Rolls Range Hood Filter Liner, Non-Woven, with Adhesive Strips and Magnetic Blocks — Best Liner Roll

Two rolls of white non-woven filter fabric beside small magnetic blocks and adhesive strips

Twenty metres of cut-to-size liner for the grease filter you already have, with no fire rating stated.

Key Specifications

Type Non-woven fabric liner, “anti oil filter paper”
Quantity 2 rolls x 10 m each
Roll width Not stated in bullets; dimension fields read 18.0 x 5.9 x 0.39 in
Included 2 adhesive strips, 16 magnetic blocks
Fit claim “Suitable for 99% range hoods on the market”
Part numbers None; model RHF-001
Washable Not stated
Fire or heat rating Not stated
After-sale “1 YEAR after sale”
Seller Elesunory
Best Sellers Rank #78,874 overall; #49 in Filters

Why We Recommend It

This is not a replacement filter. It is a liner, and the difference matters. A liner is a sheet you fix over the hood’s existing grease filter to catch oil before it reaches the metal, then peel off and throw away. “Our rang hook filter paper is made of premium non-woven fabric, which can effectively absorb cooking oil and mist from the air.” It answers the secondary search for range hood liners, and it is the opposite of a part-number product: no number, no fixed size, one roll for almost any shape.

You get a lot of material. “You will get 2 roll of 10 meter length range hood grease filter paper, 2pcs adhesive strips and 16pcs magnetic blocks.” Twenty metres is about 65.6 feet, by our arithmetic. The roll width is not given in the bullets. The dimension fields read 18.0 by 5.9 by 0.39 inches; whether 18 inches is the roll width or a package dimension is not stated, so check the width against your filter before ordering.

It fixes two ways. “Our range hood filter has a simple structure with adhesive strips and magnetic blocks that allows for quick replacement of old filters. There are 2 different installation methods.” The magnets need a steel surface to hold to; an aluminium mesh filter is not magnetic, so on most home grease filters the adhesive strips are the method that will work. With only two strips in the box, you may need more for a large filter or frequent changes.

The listing gives no fire or heat rating, and no washing instruction. It does not say the fabric is flame-retardant, does not give a temperature limit and does not say whether it can be washed. A hood filter sits directly over open flames and hot oil, and anything added to it changes both airflow and what is exposed to heat. Before you add any liner, check your hood maker’s guidance; a manual may say not to add anything to the filter. If the manual allows it, change the liner often, keep it clear of flames, and do not let it cover the filter so densely that the fan struggles.

What to weigh. It is sold by Elesunory, ranks #78,874 overall and #49 in Filters, and offers a one-year after-sale service for items damaged on arrival. The claim “Suitable for 99% range hoods on the market” is a universal-fit claim with no model behind it. It also says the material suits “homes, restaurants, and other places”. If your hood maker permits a liner and you want to wash the metal filter less often, this is the most material for the job here. If the manual is silent, ask before you stick anything on.

Pros

  • Two 10 m rolls, about 65.6 ft by our arithmetic
  • Cut to any filter shape
  • Adhesive strips and magnets included
  • Can be folded for storage, stated
  • No part number to match
  • One-year after-sale service

Cons

  • No fire or heat rating stated
  • Washability not stated
  • Roll width not clearly stated
  • Only two adhesive strips included
  • Magnets need steel; aluminium filters are not magnetic
  • Universal-fit claim names no models

Best for: A hood whose maker permits a liner, used over a metal grease filter to cut down on washing.

9. Fresh Headquarters Activated Carbon Filter Pad, Cut to Fit, 1 Pack — Best Cut-to-Fit Carbon

A flat black sheet of activated carbon filter material on a light surface

A 16 by 48 inch sheet of carbon you trim yourself, sold mainly for air vents and claimed washable.

Key Specifications

Type Activated carbon filter sheet, cut to fit
Size 16 x 48 x 0.2 in (Size field)
Dimension fields 18.9 x 6.3 x 0.098 in (likely rolled package)
Uses named HVAC, AC, furnace, vents, box fans, range hood
Part numbers None; model 14207192
Washable “can be washed and reused multiple times”, stated
Fire or heat rating Not stated
Pack 1 pad
Seller Fresh Headquarters
Best Sellers Rank #25,447 overall; #139 in Air Purifier Filters

Why We Recommend It

This is a carbon filter you make yourself. The Size field gives 16 by 48 by 0.2 inches, a single sheet of activated carbon media. You cut it to the shape of the charcoal filter or housing in your hood. “Each air filter material cut to fit allows you to easily customize for any HVAC or AC vent.” The range hood is in the title and in one bullet: “This reusable charcoal filter for range hood also fits ACs, vents, or box fans for all-around versatility.”

It is sold mainly for air systems, and Amazon files it that way. Most of the listing talks about furnaces, cold air returns and allergens, and its rank is #139 in Air Purifier Filters, not in range hood filters. That matters because a range hood is a harsher place than an air vent: warm, greasy air passes straight through it. A sheet of carbon media on its own has no grease mesh in front of it, so in a hood it belongs behind the existing grease filter, never in place of it.

It says it can be washed, which contradicts another listing on this page. “This air filter material roll can be washed and reused multiple times, extending your filter’s lifespan.” Air Filter Factory says the opposite of its own charcoal combo: carbon “cannot be washed”. The two products differ, and we report both claims as stated. The general rule for charcoal in a hood is to replace it rather than wash it, and this is the only listing here that says otherwise. If you follow it, let the sheet dry fully before it goes back.

No fire or heat rating is stated. As with the Elesunory, the listing gives no flame-retardance claim and no temperature limit. Check your hood maker’s guidance before you put any cut material into a hood, and use it only where the manual expects a charcoal filter. One 16 by 48 inch sheet would yield five 8.75 by 10.5 inch pieces laid along its length, by our arithmetic, if you were cutting inserts for a 41F-sized slot.

What to weigh. It is sold by Fresh Headquarters and ranks #25,447 overall, a better overall rank than all but four products here, though much of that demand is likely from HVAC buyers. It is the answer when no part-number charcoal filter exists for an older hood, or when you want to top up odour control. It is not a substitute for the right part where one exists.

Pros

  • Cut to any shape
  • Large sheet, 16 x 48 in
  • Says washable and reusable
  • No part number needed
  • Useful for older hoods with no current part
  • Strong overall rank, #25,447

Cons

  • Sold mainly for HVAC, not hoods
  • No fire or heat rating stated
  • No grease mesh; needs a grease filter in front
  • Washable claim contradicts the usual rule for carbon
  • Dimension fields differ from the Size field
  • Category rank not comparable

Best for: An older recirculating hood with no current charcoal part, used behind the grease filter where the manual expects charcoal.

10. VBENLEM Pack of 6 Hood Filters 19.5 x 19.5 in, 430 Stainless Steel Baffle — Commercial Hoods Only

Square brushed stainless steel baffle filter with vertical grooves and a handle on each side

A commercial baffle filter in a size most home hoods will not take, with the only flame-shield claim on the page.

Key Specifications

Filter type Stainless steel baffle, 4 grooves
Material 430 stainless steel
Stated size 19.5 W x 19.5 H in
Size field 20 x 20 x 2 in
Pack 6 (title); Number of items field: 1
For “Grease Rated Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Hoods”
Mounting Vertical, handles left and right, stated
Grease removal 94% average, tested at 300 FPM, stated
Flame claim “100% flame shield”, stated
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #42,006 overall; #17 in Filters

Why We Recommend It

This is a commercial filter, and most home hoods will not take it. The title says it is for “Grease Rated Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Hoods”, and the size is 19.5 by 19.5 inches. That face is about 380 square inches, by our arithmetic, roughly four times the 41F filters and more than twice the BPS1FA30. Domestic hoods use smaller, model-specific filters. Unless your hood was built for standard 19.5 by 19.5 inch commercial baffles, this will not fit, and the listing itself says “Please confirm the product size before purchase”.

Its sizes are nominal and actual, and the listing gives both. The bullet says 19.5 by 19.5 inches; the Size field says 20 by 20 by 2 inches and the model is MS2020. We report both. In the commercial trade a filter is often called by a rounded size, but the listing does not say which figure is the exact outside measurement, so measure the opening in the hood, not the old filter’s label, before you order.

A baffle works differently from a mesh. “These high-quality stainless steel baffles with 4 collection troughs, will cause the air to change direction and collect to form grease, and then enter the drain.” The grease runs down to a trough, which is why the listing insists on “Handles Vertical” mounting, “so it can help make the attached oil beads flow down to the bottom due to gravity”. It claims “94% Average grease removal efficency (tested at 300 FPM)”, a figure that applies at that air speed and that we have not checked.

It makes the only fire claim on the page. “Provide 100% flame shield for preventing extreme fires from entering the exhaust hood, roofing pipes, etc.” That is a listing claim, not a certification named on the page; no standard or test body is cited. The 430 stainless steel is described as “Water, rust and deformation proof” and “Easy to clean”; no dishwasher statement is made.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #42,006 overall and #17 in Filters. The title says pack of six; the Number of Items field says 1. The listed weight of 17.2 pounds is consistent with several stainless baffles, but the listing does not reconcile the two counts. If you run a commercial or commercial-style hood built for 19.5 by 19.5 inch baffles, it is the only option here. For a home under-cabinet, insert or hidden hood, look for your model’s own part number instead; our 30-inch range hood insert guide and hidden range hood roundup cover those hood types.

Pros

  • 430 stainless steel, stated rust-proof
  • Baffle design with 4 collection troughs
  • 94% grease removal claim, at 300 FPM
  • Flame-shield claim, the only one here
  • Handles on both sides
  • Sold by Amazon.com

Cons

  • Commercial size; most home hoods will not take it
  • Stated 19.5 in vs Size field 20 in
  • Pack of 6 in title vs 1 in items field
  • Must be mounted vertically
  • No certification or test body named
  • Dishwasher cleaning not stated

Best for: A commercial or commercial-style hood built for 19.5 x 19.5 inch baffle filters, mounted vertically.

Three Filter Types, Three Jobs

Before part numbers, there is a simpler question: what does your hood need the filter to do? Every hood needs a grease filter. A ducted hood needs nothing else; it sends the air outside. A ductless, recirculating hood also needs a charcoal or carbon filter, because the air comes back into the room. The ten listings here fall into those groups, and two combine them in one panel.

Filter Type Grease Odour (charcoal) Cleaning as stated
Bagean 97006931 Aluminium mesh Yes No Dishwasher safe
Air Filter Factory 41F Mesh + charcoal combo Yes Yes Cannot be washed; replace 6–9 months
Whirlpool W10169961A Metal grease (OEM) Yes No Not stated
Bagean 97007696 Mesh + charcoal combo Yes Yes Not stated
Bagean BPS1FA30 Aluminium mesh Yes No Dishwasher safe; hand washable
KEYTEAM BPQTAF Aluminium, five-layer Yes No Dishwasher safe; hand washable
Whirlpool W10272068 Round charcoal (OEM) No Yes Not stated
Elesunory rolls Non-woven liner Liner over filter No Not stated
Fresh Headquarters pad Cut-to-fit carbon No Yes Washable and reusable, stated
VBENLEM baffles Stainless baffle Yes No “Easy to clean”; method not stated

Aluminium mesh grease filters are the household default. Layers of expanded aluminium catch grease droplets as the air passes through. Three listings here say dishwasher safe in so many words, the Bagean 97006931, the Bagean BPS1FA30 and the KEYTEAM, and all three give the same soak method for heavier build-up. The Whirlpool grease filter says “durable metal” and gives no cleaning method. A clean mesh is the point: grease that builds up in a filter restricts airflow and is fuel sitting over the hob.

Stainless baffles are the commercial standard. Instead of trapping grease in a mesh, a baffle forces the air to turn sharply, so heavier grease drops out into troughs and drains. The VBENLEM is the only baffle here, and it is commercial-sized. Some home hoods use baffles of their own design; if yours does, the right replacement is the hood maker’s part, not a 19.5-inch commercial filter.

Charcoal and carbon filters are for ductless hoods only. They do nothing for grease, and they are pointless on a hood that vents outside. On a recirculating hood, they are the only thing that removes odour. Four products here contain carbon: the two combos, the Whirlpool round filter and the Fresh Headquarters pad. Our ductless range hood roundup goes through which hoods need which filters, and why a ductless hood is limited by them.

The cleaning claims divide along type lines, with one exception. Every mesh filter that states a method says it can be washed. The one carbon product that states a method, the Air Filter Factory, says it cannot. The exception is the Fresh Headquarters pad, which says its carbon “can be washed and reused multiple times”. Treat carbon as a consumable unless the listing for your exact filter says otherwise, and even then, follow your hood maker’s instructions first.

A stainless hood above a professional-style range in a white kitchen
Mesh catches grease; only charcoal deals with odour, and only on a ductless hood.

Part Numbers and Sizes, Side by Side

The single most useful thing you can do before buying a range hood filter is pull out the old one and look at it. Many filters carry a part number on the frame. If not, the hood’s manual or the model tag inside the hood housing will lead you to one. Then compare it against this table. Every number below is quoted from the listing named beside it; we have added none.

Filter Stated size Part numbers it says it replaces Hoods or series named
Air Filter Factory 8-3/4 x 10-1/2 x 7/16 in 41F, 97007696, 97005687 41000-L, 413000, 403000, 233.51000 series; 30 models listed
Bagean 97007696 8 3/4 x 10 1/2 in 41F, 97007696, S97007696 None; NuTone Allure and Broan as brands
Bagean 97006931 10 1/2 x 8 3/4 in 97006931, BP29, S97006931, 5-3078, 88150, 99010121, C88150, S5-3078, S88150, S99010121, SC88150 None
KEYTEAM 11-1/4 x 11-3/4 x 3/8 in 99010316, S99010316, WA65AF, NTK7450000, 990721400A, 990721400, 8558 (title: BPQTAF) None; Broan as a brand
Whirlpool W10169961A Approx. 11 x 12 in 8190858, W10169961, W10833076, W10875058, W10870878, W11245983 JXW6036WR
Bagean BPS1FA30 14 5/16 x 11 13/16 in BPS1FA30, 99010299, S99010299, S99010302, BPS2FA30, 99010305, S99010305, BPS3FA30 Allure QS1, QS2, WS1 30 in series; Kenmore (no model)
Whirlpool W10272068 Approx. 7-5/8 in diameter 81550120 (title) or 1550120 (bullet), AH2367296, EA2367296, PS2367296 None; “several major brands”
VBENLEM 19.5 x 19.5 in (Size field 20 x 20 x 2) None Commercial kitchen exhaust hoods
Elesunory 2 rolls x 10 m None “99% range hoods”
Fresh Headquarters 16 x 48 x 0.2 in None None; range hood among uses

Two filters cover the same slot. The Air Filter Factory and the Bagean 97007696 both replace 41F and 97007696, both measure 8-3/4 by 10-1/2 inches, and both combine a grease mesh with charcoal. The Bagean ranks #1 in Filters; the Air Filter Factory ranks #4. The Air Filter Factory adds a third part number, a thickness to the sixteenth, a model cross-reference and a change interval. Both are listed for the same part; the difference is how much the listing lets you check.

The 41F and the 97006931 are almost the same size and are not interchangeable on paper. Both are about 8.75 by 10.5 inches. The 41F filters are combos for ductless hoods; the Bagean 97006931 is a plain aluminium filter for ducted hoods. A 97006931 in a ductless hood would leave you with no odour control, and a 41F combo in a ducted hood adds charcoal you do not need. Size alone would not tell you that; the part number does.

Sizes step up in clear groups. By our arithmetic, the face areas run from about 92 square inches for the 41F and 97006931 filters, to about 132 square inches for the Whirlpool and KEYTEAM filters, to about 169 square inches for the BPS1FA30, to about 380 square inches for the VBENLEM. Nobody is going to force a filter from one group into a slot from another. The real risk is within a group, where a quarter or an eighth of an inch decides whether a filter latches.

Three listings leave a number you should query. The KEYTEAM’s spec table gives 11.61 inches for a side its bullet calls 11-3/4. The Whirlpool W10272068 lists 81550120 in its title and 1550120 in its bullet. The VBENLEM gives 19.5 inches and 20 inches for the same filter. In each case we report both, and in each case the safe step is to measure your own filter or ask the seller before ordering.

Liners: What the Two Listings Actually Say

Range hood liners are thin sheets added over a hood’s grease filter, meant to catch grease before it reaches the metal so the filter needs washing less often. Two products here serve that search, and their listings are worth reading closely because of what they leave out.

  • Elesunory: non-woven fabric, two 10-metre rolls, two adhesive strips and 16 magnetic blocks. It says it “can effectively absorb cooking oil and mist” and can be folded for storage. It does not say whether it can be washed. It gives no fire or heat rating.
  • Fresh Headquarters: a 16 by 48 by 0.2 inch activated carbon sheet, cut to fit, sold mainly for HVAC. It says it can be washed and reused. It is a carbon layer for odour rather than a grease liner. It gives no fire or heat rating.

Neither gives a fire or heat rating. That is the central fact about both. A hood filter sits over open flame and hot oil, and a grease fire on a hob can reach the filter. Metal filters do not burn; the listings for these two materials do not tell you how they behave in heat. We cannot fill that gap, and we will not imply a rating that is not there.

So the hood maker’s guidance comes first. Check your manual before adding any liner. A hood maker may say not to add anything to the filter, and a liner can also slow airflow, which affects how well the hood clears smoke and steam. If the manual allows it, cut the liner to the filter’s size so nothing hangs loose, change it often, and never let grease build up on it. If the manual is silent, ask the maker. A washable aluminium filter cleaned regularly needs no liner at all.

Ductless or Ducted: Which Filters Your Hood Needs

A ducted hood needs only grease filters. The fan pushes air outside through a duct, so smells, steam and combustion products leave the house. On this page, the Bagean 97006931, the Bagean BPS1FA30, the KEYTEAM and the Whirlpool W10169961A are grease filters for that job. Adding charcoal to a ducted hood does nothing useful and adds resistance the fan has to push against.

A ductless hood needs grease filtering and charcoal. The fan pulls air through the filters and returns it to the room. Grease must be caught first, and odour after. The combo panels here, the Air Filter Factory and the Bagean 97007696, do both in one filter; the Whirlpool W10272068 is a separate charcoal part for setups that use one.

A recirculating hood does not clear everything. Charcoal absorbs odour; it does not remove heat or steam, and it does not remove carbon monoxide or other combustion gases from a gas hob. If you cook on gas, a ducted hood vented outdoors is the way to remove those, and windows or other ventilation help where a duct is not possible. Our recirculating range hood guide sets out what a recirculating hood can and cannot remove.

Converted hoods need checking twice. Many hoods can run either way, and the filter set changes with the mode. If yours was converted from ducted to ductless, or the other way, check that the filters match the current mode, not the one it was installed in.

Popularity Follows the Common Slots

Star ratings were not captured for this roundup, so the only popularity measure here is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank, as returned on 5 October 2026. Ranks move constantly. Nine of the ten are filed in Filters, so their category ranks can be compared; the carbon pad is filed in Air Purifier Filters.

Filter Overall rank Category rank Part number
Bagean 97007696 #1,415 #1 in Filters 41F / 97007696
Bagean 97006931 #6,594 #2 in Filters 97006931
Bagean BPS1FA30 #13,717 #3 in Filters BPS1FA30
Air Filter Factory #15,612 #4 in Filters 41F / 97007696
Fresh Headquarters #25,447 #139 in Air Purifier Filters None
VBENLEM #42,006 #17 in Filters None
Elesunory #78,874 #49 in Filters None
KEYTEAM #105,780 #82 in Filters 99010316
Whirlpool W10169961A #140,566 #136 in Filters W10169961A
Whirlpool W10272068 #186,489 #218 in Filters W10272068

The top four are Broan and NuTone fits. The three Bagean filters and the Air Filter Factory hold the top four category ranks, and the 41F slot appears twice, at #1 and #4. That says more about how many hoods take those filters than about the filters themselves. A popular filter is only popular among people whose hoods take it; for anyone else, it is the wrong part.

The genuine Whirlpool parts rank lowest. Both OEM filters sit at the bottom of the overall order. A low rank on a genuine part is not a warning sign; it reflects the number of hoods that use those exact numbers. If yours does, rank is irrelevant.

What Each Step Up Actually Buys

From a liner to a filter. The Elesunory rolls and the Fresh Headquarters pad buy flexibility: no part number, any shape. What they do not buy is a stated fire or heat rating, a fixed fit or a grease mesh. They are additions, not replacements.

From a plain mesh to a combo. The Air Filter Factory and the Bagean 97007696 add a charcoal layer to a grease mesh. On a ductless hood, that is the difference between odour control and none. The cost is a filter that cannot be washed and has to be replaced, every 6 to 9 months by the one listing that says.

From aftermarket to genuine. The two Whirlpool filters buy the hood maker’s own part, with a supersession list from the maker. The grease filter names one hood; the charcoal filter names none. The step up buys certainty of shape, not more information; the aftermarket Air Filter Factory listing actually says more about its fit than either Whirlpool listing does.

From mesh to stainless baffle. The VBENLEM buys 430 stainless steel, collection troughs, a stated 94% grease removal at 300 FPM and a flame-shield claim. It also buys a 19.5-inch commercial size. For a home hood, that step is available only if the hood was built for it.

From a short warranty to a long one. The KEYTEAM states 12 months; the Bagean filters state 30 days; the others state none. For a filter, that difference is small, but it is the only written cover on the page beyond a month.

What to Check Before You Buy

Find the Part Number First

Look on the frame of the filter you are removing, then in the hood’s manual, then on the model tag inside the hood housing, as the Air Filter Factory listing suggests. Match that number against the replacement lists on this page. Seven listings here give one; if your number is not on a list, that filter is not claimed to fit.

Measure All Three Dimensions

Length, width and thickness, with a tape measure, in inches and fractions. Stated sizes here run from about 8-3/4 by 10-1/2 inches to 19.5 by 19.5 inches, and the thickness figures from 0.15 to 0.5 inches on the home rectangular filters. A filter an eighth of an inch too long will not latch; one too thin can rattle and let grease bypass it.

Check Every Field on the Listing

Three listings here disagree with themselves: the KEYTEAM on its long side, the Whirlpool W10272068 on one replacement number and the VBENLEM on its size. Read the title, the bullets and the spec table, and if two figures differ, measure your own filter or ask the seller.

Match the Type to Your Hood’s Mode

Ducted hoods need grease filters. Ductless hoods need grease filtering plus charcoal, either in a combo panel or as a separate charcoal filter. A plain aluminium mesh on a ductless hood leaves cooking smells in the room; a combo on a ducted hood adds charcoal you do not need.

Read the Cleaning Line, Not the Material

Three filters here say dishwasher safe. One says it cannot be washed and should be replaced every 6 to 9 months. The genuine Whirlpool grease filter says nothing. Treat charcoal as replace-only unless your exact listing says otherwise, and follow the hood maker’s instructions for anything the listing leaves out.

Do Not Add a Liner Without the Maker’s Approval

Neither liner product here gives a fire or heat rating. Check your hood’s manual before adding one, cut it to size, change it often and keep it clear of flame. A clean metal filter needs no liner.

Ignore Universal Claims

“Suitable for 99% range hoods”, “several major brands” and a brand name without a model all appear on this page. None is a fit statement. The filters worth buying are the ones that name your number. For other hood parts, our range hood light replacement guide uses the same match-the-number approach for bulbs.

Common Mistakes

  • Buying by hood brand instead of filter number. Two Bagean filters both mention Allure hoods, at 8 3/4 x 10 1/2 and 14 5/16 x 11 13/16 inches.
  • Putting a plain mesh on a ductless hood. The Bagean 97006931 and the 41F combos are both about 8.75 x 10.5 inches; only the combos carry charcoal.
  • Washing a charcoal filter. Air Filter Factory says carbon cannot be washed and should be replaced every 6 to 9 months.
  • Trusting one dimension field. The KEYTEAM states 11-3/4 inches and its spec table 11.61, about an eighth of an inch apart by our arithmetic.
  • Ordering a commercial baffle for a home hood. The VBENLEM is 19.5 x 19.5 inches, about four times the face of a 41F filter.
  • Adding a liner without checking the manual. Neither the Elesunory rolls nor the carbon pad states a fire or heat rating.
  • Taking “several major brands” as a fit. The Whirlpool W10272068 names no appliance; match the part number or skip it.
  • Assuming a pack count. The BPS1FA30’s items field says 2 and its title says nothing; the VBENLEM says 6 in its title and 1 in the field.

Who Should Buy Which

Buy the Bagean 97006931 if you have a ducted Broan or NuTone hood that takes that filter. It names 11 identifiers, is aluminium and says dishwasher safe. Accept that it has no charcoal and gives two slightly different thickness figures.

Buy the Air Filter Factory if your hood is ductless and takes a 41F, 97007696 or 97005687. It gives the most exact size, a 30-model cross-reference and a 6 to 9 month change interval. Accept that it cannot be washed.

Buy the Whirlpool W10169961A if your manual or old filter shows that number or one of its six predecessors. It is the genuine part and names the JXW6036WR hood. Accept that no cleaning method is stated.

Buy the Bagean 97007696 if you know your ductless hood takes a 41F and want the best-selling replacement. It is #1 in Filters. Accept that it says nothing about washing or replacement intervals.

Buy the Bagean BPS1FA30 if you own a Broan Allure QS1, QS2 or WS1 30-inch hood. It names those series, says dishwasher safe and has a handle. Confirm the pack count with the seller.

Buy the KEYTEAM if your hood takes a 99010316 or BPQTAF filter and you want a 12-month warranty. Measure the long side first; the listing gives both 11-3/4 and 11.61 inches.

Buy the Whirlpool W10272068 only if your appliance names W10272068 or one of its replacement numbers. It is a round charcoal filter about 7-5/8 inches across and names no appliance.

Buy the Elesunory rolls only if your hood maker allows a liner. Twenty metres of non-woven fabric, adhesive strips and magnets. No fire or heat rating is stated.

Buy the Fresh Headquarters pad if an older ductless hood has no current charcoal part. Cut it to fit behind the grease filter. No fire or heat rating is stated, and its washable claim is unusual for carbon.

Buy the VBENLEM baffles only for a hood built for 19.5 by 19.5 inch commercial filters. Most home hoods will not take them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best range hood filter?

The best range hood filter is the one whose part number and dimensions match your hood, so start there rather than with a brand. Of the ten here, the Bagean 97006931 is the best-documented washable grease filter: an aluminium filter of 10 1/2 by 8 3/4 inches that names 11 Broan and NuTone identifiers, says dishwasher safe and ranks #2 in Filters. It is for ducted hoods. For a ductless hood that takes a 41F, the Air Filter Factory combo gives the most exact fit information on the page, 8-3/4 by 10-1/2 by 7/16 inches, plus a model cross-reference and a 6 to 9 month change interval. If your manual calls for Whirlpool W10169961A, the genuine part is the safest choice. None of these is the best filter for a hood that takes a different number.

How do I find the right replacement filter for my range hood?

Pull out the old filter and look for a part number stamped or printed on its frame. If there is none, check the hood’s manual, which usually lists the replacement filter by number, or the model tag inside the hood housing, which the Air Filter Factory listing specifically tells buyers to find. Then measure the old filter’s length, width and thickness with a tape measure. Match the number first and use the measurements to confirm. On this page, seven listings give replacement part numbers and sizes, and the 41F and 97006931 filters are almost the same size but do different jobs, so a size match alone is not enough. Where a listing gives two figures for the same dimension, as the KEYTEAM does, measure your own filter or ask the seller. Do not rely on brand-level claims such as fits Broan or several major brands.

Can range hood filters go in the dishwasher?

Some can, and the listing should say so. Three filters here state dishwasher safe in words: the Bagean 97006931, the Bagean BPS1FA30 and the KEYTEAM. All three are aluminium grease filters, and all three also give a hand-wash method of soaking in hot water with baking soda and dish soap for 10 minutes, then scrubbing and rinsing. The genuine Whirlpool W10169961A grease filter says it is made of durable metal and gives no cleaning method, so follow the hood maker’s instructions for it. Charcoal filters are a different matter. The Air Filter Factory states that filters containing activated charcoal cannot be washed and should be replaced every 6 to 9 months. As a general rule, put only metal mesh or baffle filters in a dishwasher, and only when the listing or the hood manual allows it.

Can you wash a charcoal range hood filter?

Generally no. Charcoal works by trapping odour molecules in the pores of activated carbon, and once those pores are full, washing does not empty them. The Air Filter Factory listing states it directly: filters containing activated charcoal carbon cannot be washed, and should be replaced every 6 to 9 months depending on how much you cook. The Bagean 97007696 combo and the Whirlpool W10272068 charcoal filter do not state either way, so treat them as replace-only. One product here says otherwise: the Fresh Headquarters cut-to-fit carbon pad, sold mainly for air vents, says its material can be washed and reused multiple times. We report that claim as stated, but it is the exception on this page, not the rule. Follow your hood maker’s instructions, and if odour control fades, replace the charcoal.

How often should range hood filters be replaced?

It depends on the type. Washable aluminium mesh and stainless baffle filters are cleaned rather than replaced, and last until they are damaged, bent or no longer sit properly in the hood. Charcoal filters are consumables. The only listing here that gives an interval is the Air Filter Factory, which says every 6 to 9 months depending on your cooking volume, which is about 1.3 to 2 filters a year by our arithmetic. The other charcoal products here do not state an interval, so your hood’s manual is the next source. Signs that a charcoal filter is spent include cooking smells lingering after the hood has run. Signs that a grease filter needs cleaning include visible grease, a sticky surface and weaker suction. Clogged filters make the fan work harder and leave grease sitting over the hob.

Are range hood liners safe to use?

The listings here do not give you enough information to say. The Elesunory non-woven rolls and the Fresh Headquarters carbon pad both give no fire or heat rating: no flame-retardance claim and no temperature limit. A range hood filter sits above open flame and hot oil, and a liner adds material directly in that air path, which also slows airflow. Before you add any liner, read your hood maker’s guidance; a manual may say not to add anything to the filter. If yours allows a liner, cut it to the filter’s exact size so nothing hangs down, change it often so grease never builds up in it, and keep it well away from flames. If the manual is silent, ask the maker. A metal filter washed regularly needs no liner, and that is the safest choice when in doubt.

What is the difference between mesh, baffle and charcoal range hood filters?

Mesh filters, usually aluminium, catch grease droplets in layers of metal as air passes through; they are the household default, and three here say dishwasher safe. Baffle filters, usually stainless steel, make air turn sharply so grease drops out into troughs and drains; they are the commercial standard, and the VBENLEM on this page is one, in a commercial 19.5 by 19.5 inch size that most home hoods will not take. Charcoal or carbon filters absorb odour and do nothing for grease; they are needed only on ductless, recirculating hoods and sit behind a grease filter. Two products here, the Air Filter Factory and the Bagean 97007696, combine a grease mesh and a charcoal layer in one panel. A ducted hood needs only a grease filter. A ductless hood needs grease filtering and charcoal.

Will a commercial baffle filter fit my home range hood?

Almost certainly not, unless the hood was built for one. The VBENLEM filters on this page are 19.5 by 19.5 inches by their bullet and 20 by 20 by 2 inches by their Size field, and the title says they are for grease rated commercial kitchen exhaust hoods. That face is about 380 square inches by our arithmetic, roughly four times the common 41F filter and more than twice the largest home filter here. Home hoods use smaller, model-specific filters, and even home hoods with baffles use the maker’s own sizes. The VBENLEM listing also says the baffles must be mounted vertically with handles on the left and right, so the grease drains down. Measure the opening in your hood. If it is not built for 19.5-inch commercial baffles, order your hood’s own part number instead.

Best Genuine OEMWhirlpool W10169961A Grease Filter

Whirlpool’s own part, approximately 11 x 12 inches, replacing six earlier numbers and naming the JXW6036WR.

A range hood filter is a part, and the best one is the part your hood was built for. Seven of the ten listings here are sold by part number and size, from the 41F at 8-3/4 by 10-1/2 inches to the BPS1FA30 at 14 5/16 by 11 13/16. Two are cut-to-fit liners with no part number at all. One is a 19.5-inch commercial baffle that most home hoods will not take.

Type comes next. Ducted hoods need grease filters, and three here say dishwasher safe. Ductless hoods need charcoal as well, and the one listing that addresses it says carbon cannot be washed and should be replaced every 6 to 9 months. Two filters of almost the same size, the 41F combo and the 97006931 mesh, do those two different jobs.

Then read every field. Three listings disagree with themselves on a size or a number, two liners give no fire or heat rating, and several fit claims name a brand or a percentage instead of a model. Find the number on your old filter or in your manual, measure all three dimensions, and buy the listing that names that number.

If you buy one filter from this page and your hood takes it, make it the Bagean 97006931: a washable aluminium grease filter with the longest replacement list here, a dishwasher-safe statement and the #2 rank in Filters. For a ductless hood with a 41F slot, the Air Filter Factory combo documents its fit better than anything else on the page; for a Whirlpool hood that calls for W10169961A, buy the genuine part.
