Same Width, 2.6 to 3.7 Cu Ft Inside the Best 24 Inch Gas Stove

A 24-inch gas range is bought for one reason: the kitchen has 24 inches, or 20, and not 30. Every listing on this page sells the same idea in different words, a full-size cooker squeezed into a compact slot. Read the five 24-inch listings side by side and the oven inside that slot varies by more than a cubic foot. The two Avantis state 2.6 cu ft. The Magnificent Chef states 3.0. The Haven Collection and the KoolMore both put “3.7 cu ft” in their titles.

That is a 42% spread in the same width, by our arithmetic. The Haven’s 3.7 cu ft is 1.1 cu ft more than an Avanti’s 2.6, which is roughly the space you would get by stepping from a 20-inch range to a 24-inch one twice over. Divide each stated capacity by the nominal width and the Haven carries about 0.154 cu ft of oven per inch, the Avantis about 0.108. Width is what you measure for. Capacity per inch is what you actually get for it.

The 20-inch ranges tell the same story at a smaller scale. Lamazze states 2.05 cu ft, the Avanti 20-inch 2.1, the Summit 2.3, and the Magnificent Chef 20-inch 2.4. The unbranded 20-inch range gives its oven as “68L”, which is about 2.40 cu ft by our conversion. So the best 20 inch gas stove for oven space holds within 0.2 cu ft of the two 24-inch Avantis, and gives back four inches of counter.

The second thing every buyer has to settle is which gas the range is set up for. A range runs on natural gas from a utility main or on propane (LP) from a tank, and the burner orifices and regulator have to match. Four listings state that the range is set up for natural gas: both Magnificent Chefs, the Haven and the Lamazze. Three put a conversion kit in the box: the white Avanti (“included propane conversion kit”), the Lamazze, and the unbranded range, whose title reads “NG-LPG Conversion Kit”. The Haven says its LP kit is “sold separately”. Four listings say nothing about gas type or conversion at all.

And the ranges shoppers rank highest are the ones with the least oven per inch. The three Avantis hold the three best Best Sellers Ranks on the page, #364, #860 and #1,350 overall. They also sit at or near the bottom for capacity per inch, and two of the three do not say which gas they are set up for.

So this guide sorts the ten by what each listing lets you work out about the space inside: stated oven capacity against width, then the gas setup and whether a kit is included. We also compare burner BTUs, ignition, convection and broiler details, only where a listing states them. Every one of these is an installed home appliance. Installation, and any natural gas or propane conversion, belongs to a qualified, licensed gas installer working from the manual and local code. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only.

All ten were captured on 5 October 2026. Their overall Best Sellers Ranks run from #364 to #14,783, and the range with the most oven per inch of any listing without a conflict, the Haven, sits fourth at #1,352.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. Capacities are as each listing states them. The KoolMore gives 3.7 cu ft in its title and 3.46 cu ft in a bullet, so both are shown. The unbranded range gives 68 litres; 2.40 cu ft is our conversion. Cubic feet per inch is our arithmetic: stated capacity divided by the nominal width class, 24 or 20 inches. Listed widths are slightly under nominal on several ranges (23.5 in on the 24-inch Avantis, 19.5 in on the Summit), which would nudge their figures up a little. Gas setup is recorded only where the listing says it in words. “Not stated” means the listing names neither a factory gas type nor a conversion kit. Any natural gas or propane conversion should be carried out by a qualified, licensed gas installer following the manual and local code. Ranks are overall Best Sellers Ranks as returned on 5 October 2026; Amazon files all ten in Freestanding Ranges, including the slide-in KoolMore. How We Chose These Ten

We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read each listing’s claims about oven capacity, width, burners and gas supply line by line. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these ranges.

  • Installed compact gas ranges only — every product here is a full home gas range with a four-burner cooktop over an oven, freestanding or slide-in, in a 24-inch or 20-inch width class. Cooktops without ovens, electric ranges and camp or countertop stoves were not in the running.
  • Two width classes, kept apart — five 24-inch ranges for the main keyword and five 20-inch ranges for the best 20 inch gas stove. Where a listing gives an exact width, we report it beside the class.
  • Oven capacity exactly as printed — in cubic feet where the listing uses them, in litres where it does not. Where two fields disagree, as on the KoolMore, we report both.
  • Capacity set against width — we divided each stated capacity by the nominal width. That figure, the litre conversion and every BTU total we add up ourselves is labelled as our arithmetic.
  • Gas setup in words only — a range is logged as set up for natural gas only where the listing says so, and a conversion kit only where the listing says it is included or sold separately. A model number that hints at a gas type is not treated as a statement.
  • Burners, ignition, convection and broiler as stated — BTU figures are quoted as printed, ignition only where it is named, and a fan counts as convection only where the listing says convection.
  • Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only — ranks are quoted exactly as returned on 5 October 2026, overall and in Freestanding Ranges, where Amazon files all ten.
  • Verified stock and seller — each product was the buy-box offer and in stock on amazon.com on 5 October 2026. Four were flagged as scarce stock at capture: the Haven, the stainless Avanti 24-inch, the Avanti 20-inch and the Summit.

Why We Recommend It

This is the biggest oven in 24 inches that nothing on its own listing contradicts. The title says “3.7 cu ft” and the second bullet repeats it: “Spacious 3.7 cubic foot oven features a fan to distribute heat evenly around the food and eliminate cold spots in the oven cavity.” Spread across 24 inches, that is about 0.154 cu ft per inch by our arithmetic, the top of the page. Against the 2.6 cu ft in either Avanti it is 1.1 cu ft more oven, or about 42% more, in the same nominal width. The KoolMore claims the same 3.7 in its title but gives 3.46 in a bullet; the Haven gives one number everywhere.

It is the only 24-inch range that tells you what every burner does. “An 18,000 BTU Burner, 12,000 BTU Burner, 9,000 BTU Burner, and 3,500 BTU Burner.” That adds up to 42,500 BTU across the cooktop, by our arithmetic, and the spread matters more than the total. 18,000 BTU is twice the 9,000 BTU of each burner on the white Avanti, which is the difference between a large pot of pasta water coming up quickly and coming up eventually. At the other end, 3,500 BTU is the lowest simmer figure printed by any 24-inch listing here. The oven is itemised too: a “12,000 BTU Bake Burner and 10,000 BTU Broil Burner”, which confirms a separate broil burner rather than leaving you to guess.

The gas setup is stated plainly, and so is what is missing. The last bullet reads “Natural Gas; Liquid Propane Conversion Kit sold separately”. If your home runs on a natural gas main, that is the clearest statement among the 24-inch ranges. If you run on propane from a tank, budget for the kit and for a qualified, licensed gas installer to fit it, because converting a range means changing orifices and setting the regulator, and that work belongs to a professional following the manual and local code.

It is the only listing here near standard counter height. The bullet gives “23.88″ (W) x 27.6″ (D) x 36″ (H)”; the spec table says 36.8 inches tall. Every other range that gives a height lists between 40.25 and 42.125 inches. It is also the deepest stated range on the page at 27.6 inches and the heaviest at 146.6 pounds, so check the depth of your counter run and the path from the door to the kitchen before you order.

Safety features are listed, a safety listing is not. The listing describes “an oven cavity cooling ventilation system for safe heat dissipation, overheating protection, triple-thick oven glass, and a cool-to-touch oven handle”. It does not name a CSA or ETL certification, where the Avantis, Magnificent Chefs and KoolMore all do; ask the seller to confirm before purchase. Ignition type is not stated either.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com, ranks #1,352 overall and #13 in Freestanding Ranges, and was flagged as scarce stock at capture. The warranty is one year limited. It is the most expensive 24-inch range in this roundup, and what the extra buys is measurable from the listing: 1.1 cu ft more oven than an Avanti, convection, an 18,000 BTU burner and a printed figure for every flame in the box.

Pros

  • 3.7 cu ft stated, no internal conflict
  • About 0.154 cu ft per inch, our arithmetic
  • Convection fan stated
  • All four cooktop BTUs and both oven BTUs itemised
  • Natural gas stated in words
  • Near 36 in counter height

Cons

  • LP conversion kit sold separately
  • Heaviest listing at 146.6 lb
  • Deepest stated at 27.6 in
  • No CSA or ETL listing named
  • Ignition type not stated
  • Scarce stock at capture

Best for: A natural gas kitchen with a 24-inch slot that wants the largest oven and the strongest burner the listings can document.

2. KoolMore 24-Inch 4-Burner Slide-In Gas Range, KM-SGR24-SS — Best Slide-In

Stainless steel slide-in gas range with a black enamel cooktop, four burners and front-mounted control knobs

The only slide-in here, with the highest stated cooktop total, and two different oven sizes on one listing.

Key Specifications

Width class 24 in; exact width not stated
Oven capacity 3.7 cu ft (title); 3.46 cu ft (bullet)
Cooktop burners 51,500 BTU total stated; 18,000 BTU front burner
Oven Convection fan stated; bake and broil BTUs not stated
Gas setup Not stated
Ignition Not stated
Installation style Slide-in, front controls
Listed weight 119.9 pounds
Certification CSA certified, stated
Warranty 1-year parts and labor
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #2,829 overall; #54 in Freestanding Ranges

Why We Recommend It

The listing gives two oven sizes, and they are a quarter of a cubic foot apart. The title says “3.7 cu. ft.” The third bullet says “Spacious 3.46 Cu. Ft. Oven Capacity”. The gap is 0.24 cu ft by our arithmetic, a little over 6% of the larger figure. At 3.7 the KoolMore ties the Haven at about 0.154 cu ft per inch; at 3.46 it drops to about 0.144, still second on the page and still well ahead of the Magnificent Chef 24-inch at 3.0. Either way it is a big oven for the width. But a buyer comparing it with the Haven should plan around the smaller figure until the manufacturer confirms which is right.

It states the biggest cooktop total on the page. “High-Performance 4-Burner Gas Cooktop (51,500 Total BTU): Features a powerful 18,000 BTU front burner for rapid boiling, along with three additional burners for simmering and everyday cooking versatility.” The 18,000 BTU front burner matches the Haven’s largest. The other three share the remaining 33,500 BTU, our subtraction, but the listing does not say how. So the KoolMore wins on total and on its top burner, and leaves you guessing whether any of the other three turns down as low as the Haven’s 3,500 BTU simmer burner.

It is the only slide-in range in this roundup. The title says “Slide-In Gas Range” and “Front Controls”. A slide-in is designed to sit between cabinets with the controls on the front rather than on a raised back panel, which gives a cleaner run of counter and keeps the knobs away from reaching over hot pans. Amazon still files it in Freestanding Ranges, at #54. The listing does not give exterior dimensions, so the cutout, the countertop overlap and the gas connection position have to come from the installation manual before you commit. That is a job for a qualified, licensed gas installer, not a weekend project.

Convection is stated; the gas setup is not. “Built-in convection fan circulates hot air throughout the oven cavity, helping ensure consistent cooking and baking results.” The KoolMore and the Haven are the only two ranges here that claim convection. What the KoolMore never says is whether it leaves the factory set for natural gas or propane, or whether a conversion kit exists. If you cook on propane, ask the seller in writing before ordering.

What to weigh. It is “CSA certified for safety and backed by a 1-year parts and labor warranty”, sold by Amazon.com and ranks #2,829 overall. The cooktop is “Black glossy enamel”. It lists 119.9 pounds. On the listing alone, it is the strongest stated cooktop here in the most built-in-looking format, with an oven that is either the biggest or the second-biggest on the page depending on which line you read.

Pros

  • Only slide-in design here, front controls
  • 51,500 BTU total stated, the highest here
  • 18,000 BTU front burner
  • Convection fan stated
  • CSA certified, stated
  • 1-year parts and labor warranty

Cons

  • 3.7 cu ft title vs 3.46 cu ft bullet
  • Gas type and conversion not stated
  • Exterior dimensions not stated
  • Other three burner BTUs not itemised
  • Ignition not stated
  • Bake and broil BTUs not stated

Best for: A remodel that wants a slide-in look and the most stated burner power in 24 inches, with the gas setup confirmed first.

3. Magnificent Chef 24-Inch Freestanding Gas Range, 3.0 Cu Ft, MGR24DNM54TDIB — Best Warranty at 24 Inches

Stainless steel freestanding gas range with cast iron grates over four burners and a large glass oven window

A middle-sized 3.0 cu ft oven in the shallowest stated body on the page, with natural gas stated and a 2-year warranty.

Key Specifications

Width class 24 in; 24 in stated
Oven capacity 3.0 cu ft
Cooktop burners 1 ultra-fast and 3 fast; BTUs not stated; SABAF burners
Gas setup Natural gas; adaptable to propane by switching the valves
Conversion kit Not stated
Ignition Not stated
Dimensions 41 3/16 H x 24 W x 22 1/2 D in
Listed weight 108 lb (bullet); 109.0 lb (spec table)
Certification CSA certified, stated
Warranty 2-year limited
Seller Abba LLC; delivery appointment required
Best Sellers Rank #2,987 overall; #57 in Freestanding Ranges

Why We Recommend It

It sits exactly in the middle of the 24-inch field. The title says “3.0 Cu Ft Space Saver Oven”. That is 0.4 cu ft more than either Avanti and 0.7 less than the Haven, about 0.125 cu ft per inch by our arithmetic. For a buyer who finds the Avantis too small and the Haven too deep or too heavy, it is the step between them.

It is the shallowest range that gives a depth. “Dimensions: Height 41 3/16″, Width 24″, Depth 22 1/2″, Weight 108 Lbs.” At 22.5 inches deep it is more than five inches shallower than the 27.6-inch Haven, and about two inches shallower than its own 20-inch sibling, which lists 24 3/8 inches. In a galley kitchen or a narrow walkway, that depth can matter as much as the width. The spec table lists 109.0 pounds against the bullet’s 108; the difference is trivial, but it is a reminder to read both fields.

Natural gas is stated, and so is a route to propane, without a kit. “GAS TO LP ADAPTABLE: The freestanding range comes ready for natural gas use but can be adapted for propane use by switching the valves.” The listing does not say a conversion kit is included, and it does not describe what parts a conversion needs. Whatever the mechanism, a conversion changes how gas reaches the burners, so it should be done by a qualified, licensed gas installer following the manual and local code, not by the owner with a spanner.

The burners are described by speed, not by number. “Equipped with burners, 1 ultra-fast burner and 3 fast burners.” No BTU figure is given for any of them, and no simmer burner is named. The listing does say the burners are “Italian SABAF burners” and that the “cast iron grills are dishwasher safe”. Ignition type is not stated, which is unusual for a listing that names its burner supplier.

What to weigh. It carries a “2-Year Warranty”, double the one year on the Avantis, Haven and KoolMore, and it is “CSA-certified”. It is sold by Abba LLC rather than Amazon.com, the title says “Delivery Included”, and the first bullet warns that “Large appliance freight requires direct contact with the buyer before final placement.” It ranks #2,987 overall and #57 in Freestanding Ranges.

Pros

  • 3.0 cu ft, the middle of the 24-inch range
  • Shallowest stated depth here, 22.5 in
  • Natural gas stated; propane adaptable
  • 2-year limited warranty
  • CSA certified, stated
  • Dishwasher-safe cast iron grates

Cons

  • No burner BTUs stated
  • No conversion kit stated
  • Ignition type not stated
  • Broiler and convection not stated
  • Third-party seller with delivery appointment
  • Weight differs between fields

Best for: A shallow or galley kitchen that wants more oven than an Avanti on natural gas, with a longer warranty.

4. Magnificent Chef 20-Inch Freestanding Gas Range, 2.4 Cu Ft, MGR20DNM54TDIB — Largest 20-Inch Oven

Narrow stainless steel gas range with four burners under cast iron grates and a glass-fronted oven door

The biggest oven a branded 20-inch listing states here, 2.4 cu ft, within 0.2 cu ft of the 24-inch Avantis.

Key Specifications

Width class 20 in; 20 in stated
Oven capacity 2.4 cu ft
Cooktop burners 1 ultra-fast and 3 fast; BTUs not stated; SABAF burners
Gas setup Natural gas; adaptable to propane by switching the valves
Conversion kit Not stated
Ignition Not stated
Dimensions 42 1/8 H x 20 W x 24 3/8 D in
Listed weight 94 pounds
Certification CSA certified, stated
Warranty 2-year limited
Seller Abba LLC; delivery appointment required
Best Sellers Rank #6,696 overall; #152 in Freestanding Ranges

Why We Recommend It

For oven space in 20 inches, this is the branded listing to beat. The title says “2.4 Cu Ft Space Saver Oven”, about 0.120 cu ft per inch by our arithmetic. That is 0.35 cu ft more than the Lamazze, 0.3 more than the Avanti 20-inch and 0.1 more than the Summit. The unbranded 68-litre range converts to about the same figure. Set against the 24-inch Avantis at 2.6, it gives up only 0.2 cu ft for four inches less width.

The step up to its 24-inch sibling buys 0.6 cu ft. The Magnificent Chef 24-inch states 3.0 cu ft, so four extra inches add a quarter more oven, by our arithmetic. The same step in the Avanti line, from 2.1 to 2.6, adds 0.5. If you have the full 24 inches, the larger model is the better use of it; if you have 20, this one gives you the most of what 20 can hold among named brands.

It is narrower but deeper than the 24-inch version. “DIMENSIONS: Height 42 1/8″, Width 20″, Depth 24 3/8″, Weight 94 Lbs.” At 24 3/8 inches it is almost two inches deeper than the 24-inch Magnificent Chef, and at 42 1/8 inches it is the tallest range on the page that gives a height. Measure the depth of your counter run and any overhead cabinet clearance, not just the gap.

The gas wording is identical to the 24-inch model. “The freestanding range comes ready for natural gas use but can be adapted for propane use by switching the valves.” No kit is stated. The burners are described as “1 ultra-fast burner and 3 fast burners” from “Italian SABAF”, with no BTU figure for any of them and no named simmer burner. Ignition, broiler and convection are not stated.

What to weigh. It shares the 24-inch model’s “2-Year Warranty”, CSA certification and dishwasher-safe cast iron grates, and its seller and delivery terms: Abba LLC, delivery included, appointment required. It ranks #6,696 overall and #152 in Freestanding Ranges, well behind the Avanti 20-inch at #364, which holds 0.3 cu ft less.

Pros

  • 2.4 cu ft, largest branded 20-inch oven here
  • About 0.120 cu ft per inch, our arithmetic
  • Natural gas stated; propane adaptable
  • 2-year limited warranty
  • CSA certified, stated
  • Dishwasher-safe cast iron grates

Cons

  • No burner BTUs stated
  • Deeper than its 24-inch sibling at 24 3/8 in
  • Tallest stated height at 42 1/8 in
  • No conversion kit stated
  • Ignition, broiler and convection not stated
  • Delivery appointment required

Best for: A 20-inch slot on natural gas where oven space comes first and a 2-year warranty matters.

5. 20-Inch Gas Range with 4 Burners and 68L Rotary Baking Oven (SoirFanTlio) — Most Questions Open

Compact silver stainless gas range with a four-burner hob and a mirrored double-layer glass oven door

A large stated oven for 20 inches and a conversion kit in the title, with almost nothing else a gas buyer needs to check.

Key Specifications

Width class 20 in
Oven capacity 68 litres (about 2.40 cu ft, our conversion)
Cooktop burners Four; BTUs not stated
Oven features 360-degree rotary baking stated
Gas setup Factory gas type not stated
Conversion kit NG-LPG conversion kit, stated in title
Ignition Not stated
Body 201 stainless steel; double-layer tempered glass door
Listed weight 58.0 pounds
Certification Not stated
Warranty “2”, unit not stated
Best Sellers Rank #2,200 overall; #29 in Freestanding Ranges

Why We Recommend It

On paper, the oven ties the biggest 20-inch figure here. The title says “68L Rotary Baking Oven” and the second bullet repeats “68-liter oven capacity”. 68 litres is about 2.40 cu ft by our conversion, level with the Magnificent Chef 20-inch and ahead of the Summit, Avanti and Lamazze. It is the only listing that gives capacity in litres, so it is easy to read past.

The kit is in the title, the direction is not. The title ends “(NG-LPG Conversion Kit)”. The listing never says which gas the range is set up for when it leaves the factory, so you cannot tell whether the kit converts natural gas to propane or the other way. The model fields read “Lpg-4b-68l” and “Lpg-20r68l”, which hint at propane, but a part number is not a statement. Whichever way it runs, the conversion should be carried out by a qualified, licensed gas installer following the manual and local code.

What rotates is not explained. “ROTARY BAKING: 68-liter oven capacity with 360-degree rotary baking function ensures even heat distribution for perfect cooking results.” The listing does not say whether that is a rotisserie spit, a turntable or something else, and it does not claim convection. Burner BTUs are not given (“Four high-efficiency gas burners with adjustable heat levels”), and neither are ignition type, broiler details or exterior dimensions beyond the 20-inch width.

It lists about half the weight of the other 20-inch ranges. 58.0 pounds against 94 to 142 pounds for the rest of the 20-inch group. The listing says the body is “201 stainless steel” with a “double-layer mirror tempered glass door”; the Lamazze, by contrast, describes a triple-layer door. Lighter construction is not a fault in itself, but it is a measurable difference in how much metal and insulation you are getting.

No safety listing is named. The Avantis state ETLus, the Magnificent Chefs and KoolMore state CSA; this listing names neither, and its “SAFETY FEATURES” bullet describes the glass and the knobs. For an appliance connected to a gas supply, a recognised certification mark is the first thing to confirm with the seller, and some local codes and installers will require it. The warranty field reads simply “2”. It is sold by Xinqiong Technology and ranks #2,200 overall, #29 in Freestanding Ranges, ahead of every non-Avanti range except the Haven.

Pros

  • 68 L, about 2.40 cu ft, our conversion
  • Conversion kit named in the title

  • Double-layer tempered glass door
  • #29 in Freestanding Ranges
  • Lightest listing to move into place

Cons

  • Factory gas type not stated
  • No burner BTUs stated

  • Warranty field reads only “2”
  • Exterior dimensions beyond width not stated

Best for: Only a buyer who gets the gas setup, certification and warranty confirmed in writing before ordering.

6. Summit RG201B 20-Inch Wide Gas Range, 2.3 Cu Ft, ADA Compliant (Black) — Best 20-Inch

Black 20-inch gas range with four sealed burners, a glass oven door and a lower broiler compartment

The best-documented cooktop among the 20-inch ranges: four BTU figures, electronic spark ignition and a separate broiler compartment.

Key Specifications

Width class 20 in; 19.5 in stated
Oven capacity 2.3 cu ft
Cooktop burners 12,000, 9,500, 9,500 and 5,000 BTU, sealed
Broiler Lower drop-down broiler compartment; 2-piece broiler pan with lid
Ignition Electronic spark ignition
Gas setup Not stated
Racks Two slide-out racks
Dimensions 42.0 H x 19.5 W x 23.5 D in
Accessibility ADA compliant, stated in title
Listed weight 142.0 pounds
Warranty “Summit Appliance Warranty”, term not stated
Best Sellers Rank #7,233 overall; #167 in Freestanding Ranges

Why We Recommend It

It tells you more about its burners than any other 20-inch range except the Lamazze, and its numbers are bigger. “One 12,000 BTU burner offers faster cooking for larger pots and pans, with two standard 9,500 BTU burners, and a smaller 5,000 BTU burner for simmering.” That is 36,000 BTU across the cooktop by our arithmetic, the same total as the white Avanti’s four 9,000 BTU burners, but split into a genuine high burner and a genuine low one. The 12,000 BTU burner is about 41% more than the Lamazze’s 8,500 BTU rapid burner, by our arithmetic.

Ignition is named. “This Summit gas range utilizes electronic spark ignition.” It is one of only four listings on the page that name an ignition type; the other three are the Avantis. None of the ten describes battery spark. Electronic ignition means the range needs a power outlet for the spark, and the manual sets out the electrical connection along with the gas one.

The broiler is a separate compartment, and the pan is in the box. “Includes 2 slide-out racks and a lower drop-down broiler compartment … Includes a 2-piece broiler pan with lid.” Of the 20-inch ranges, only this one and the Lamazze describe a broiler at all, and only the Summit includes a pan. A drop-down compartment below the oven keeps broiling separate from baking, at the cost of a low, bending reach.

The oven is mid-pack for 20 inches. 2.3 cu ft is about 0.115 cu ft per inch by our arithmetic, or about 0.118 if you use the stated 19.5-inch width. It is 0.1 cu ft behind the Magnificent Chef 20-inch and 0.25 ahead of the Lamazze. The title says “(ADA Compliant)”, the only accessibility claim on the page, which can matter for rental units and accessible kitchens. At 142.0 pounds it is the heaviest 20-inch range here by a wide margin, and the bullet gives “42.0″ H x 19.5″ W x 23.5″ D”.

What is missing is the gas setup. The listing does not say whether it leaves the factory set for natural gas or propane, or whether a conversion kit is included. Neither is a warranty term given; the field reads “Summit Appliance Warranty”. It is sold by Buildcom, was scarce at capture, and ranks #7,233 overall and #167 in Freestanding Ranges. Confirm the gas type with the seller, and have a licensed installer handle any conversion.

Pros

  • All four burner BTUs stated, 12,000 down to 5,000
  • Electronic spark ignition stated
  • Drop-down broiler compartment
  • 2-piece broiler pan with lid included
  • ADA compliant, stated
  • Two slide-out racks

Cons

  • Gas type and conversion kit not stated
  • Warranty term not stated
  • Heaviest 20-inch range at 142.0 lb
  • Low broiler means bending
  • Scarce stock at capture
  • Convection not stated

Best for: A 20-inch kitchen that wants a real high burner, a real simmer burner and a proper broiler, and will confirm the gas setup first.

7. Avanti GRO24P0W 24-Inch Compact Freestanding Gas Range, 2.6 Cu Ft (White) — Best Value

White compact freestanding gas range with four burners on a white cooktop, a glass oven door and a lower drawer

The only 24-inch listing that puts a propane conversion kit in the box, with four equal 9,000 BTU burners and a broiler drawer.

Key Specifications

Width class 24 in; 23.5 in stated
Oven capacity 2.6 cu ft
Cooktop burners Four 9,000 BTU, sealed
Broiler Broiler drawer stated
Ignition Electronic ignition
Gas setup Factory gas type not stated
Conversion kit Propane conversion kit included
Dimensions 23.5 W x 25.75 (length field) x 40.5 H in
Listed weight 95.0 pounds
Certification ETLus listed; DOE certified
Warranty 1 year limited
Best Sellers Rank #1,350 overall; #12 in Freestanding Ranges

Why We Recommend It

This is the 24-inch range to buy if your gas comes from a propane tank. The fourth bullet reads “A broiler drawer, two oven racks, storage drawer, and included propane conversion kit add everyday versatility.” Among the five 24-inch listings, it is the only one that says the kit is in the box. The Haven sells it separately, the Magnificent Chef describes switching valves without a kit, and the stainless Avanti and the KoolMore say nothing. A kit included does not make conversion a DIY job: the orifices and regulator should be changed by a qualified, licensed gas installer following the manual and local code. It does mean the installer is not waiting on a part.

The burners are four of a kind. “Four 9000 BTU burners help you boil, simmer, and prepare multiple dishes at once.” That is 36,000 BTU across the cooktop, by our arithmetic, the same total as the Summit 20-inch. The difference is the spread. The Summit gives you 12,000 at the top and 5,000 at the bottom; the Avanti gives you 9,000 everywhere. Four equal burners are flexible for pan placement, but there is no dedicated high-output burner and no stated simmer burner, so very low simmering depends on how far each valve turns down.

The oven is the smallest in the 24-inch class. 2.6 cu ft, about 0.108 cu ft per inch by our arithmetic, or about 0.111 using the stated 23.5-inch width. That is 0.4 cu ft behind the Magnificent Chef 24-inch and 1.1 behind the Haven. It is still 0.5 cu ft more than the Avanti 20-inch, and the listing is honest about what it is: “A 2.6 cu. ft. oven gives smaller kitchens room for everyday baking and roasting.”

The broiler is a drawer. The title says “Includes Broiler Storage Drawer and Accessories”, and the bullet separates a “broiler drawer” from a “storage drawer”. Ignition is named in the title as “Electronic Ignition”. It is “ETLus listing, DOE certification”, with a one-year limited warranty.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com, ranks #1,350 overall and #12 in Freestanding Ranges, and lists 95.0 pounds, the lightest of the 24-inch ranges. It is the lowest-priced 24-inch range here at capture. The listing does not state its factory gas type in words, though a propane conversion kit implies it is not set up for propane out of the box; confirm with the manual before the installer arrives.

Pros

  • Propane conversion kit included, only 24-inch listing
  • Four 9,000 BTU burners, 36,000 total by our arithmetic
  • Broiler drawer and separate storage drawer
  • Electronic ignition stated
  • ETLus listed; DOE certified
  • Sold by Amazon.com; lightest 24-inch listing

Cons

  • Smallest 24-inch oven, 2.6 cu ft
  • No high-output burner
  • No dedicated simmer burner stated
  • Factory gas type not stated in words
  • Convection not stated
  • 1-year warranty

Best for: A propane kitchen with a 24-inch slot that wants the kit in the box and a straightforward four-burner cooktop.

8. Avanti GR2416CSS 24-Inch Compact Gas Range, 2.6 Cu Ft (Stainless Steel) — Best-Ranked 24-Inch

Stainless steel compact gas range with four sealed burners, a glass oven door with window and a storage drawer below

The best-selling 24-inch range on the page, and the one that tells you least about its burners and its gas.

Key Specifications

Width class 24 in; 23.5 in stated
Oven capacity 2.6 cu ft
Cooktop burners Four sealed: rapid, semi-rapid and simmer; BTUs not stated
Ignition Automatic electronic ignition
Gas setup Not stated
Conversion kit Not stated
Features 60-minute timer; two racks; oven light; storage drawer
Dimensions 23.5 W x 25.0 (length field) x 40.75 H in
Listed weight 114.0 pounds
Certification ETLus listed; DOE certified
Warranty 1 year limited
Best Sellers Rank #860 overall; #5 in Freestanding Ranges

Why We Recommend It

More shoppers choose this than any other 24-inch range here. It ranks #860 overall and #5 in Freestanding Ranges, second on the page only to its 20-inch sibling. It is sold by Amazon.com, and was flagged as scarce stock at capture. Whatever drives that, it is not oven space per inch: at 2.6 cu ft it shares the bottom of the 24-inch class with the white Avanti, about 0.108 cu ft per inch by our arithmetic.

The burners are named by role, not by number. “Four sealed burners, including rapid, semi-rapid, and simmer options, help you handle different cooking tasks with easier cleanup.” That is a better description of the layout than the white Avanti gives, because it promises a dedicated simmer burner, but no BTU figure is printed for any of the four. You cannot compare it with the Haven’s 18,000 BTU or the Summit’s 12,000 BTU from the listing.

The gas setup is not mentioned at all. No factory gas type, no conversion kit, no conversion route. Its white sibling includes a propane kit; this listing is silent. If you cook on propane, that silence is the single most important thing to resolve before ordering, by asking the seller or reading the manual. Any conversion, if one is possible, should be done by a qualified, licensed gas installer following the manual and local code.

The everyday features are spelled out. “Automatic electronic ignition, full-range temperature control, and a 60-minute timer”, plus “Two oven racks, a glass oven door, an oven light, and a lower storage drawer”. The first bullet says the oven gives “room to bake and broil”, but it does not say where the broiler is, whether a drawer or inside the oven. Convection is not stated. It is “DOE Certified and ETLus Listed”, and the energy field reads “High Efficiency”.

What to weigh. The listed height is 40.75 inches and the width 23.5; the length field gives 25.0 inches. It lists 114.0 pounds, 19 pounds more than the white Avanti with the same stated oven. The warranty is one year limited. If you want the Avanti 24-inch on propane, the white GRO24P0W documents the kit and the burner BTUs; this one documents the simmer burner and the rank.

Pros

  • Best 24-inch rank, #5 in Freestanding Ranges
  • Rapid, semi-rapid and simmer burners named
  • Automatic electronic ignition
  • 60-minute timer and oven light
  • ETLus listed; DOE certified
  • Sold by Amazon.com

Cons

  • Smallest 24-inch oven, 2.6 cu ft
  • No burner BTUs stated
  • Gas type and conversion not stated
  • Broiler location not stated
  • Scarce stock at capture
  • 1-year warranty

Best for: A natural gas kitchen, confirmed from the manual, that wants the best-selling 24-inch range and a named simmer burner.

9. Avanti GR2013CSS 20-Inch Compact Gas Range, 2.1 Cu Ft (Stainless Steel) — Best Seller Here

Narrow stainless steel gas range with four burners, dial controls and a framed glass oven door

The best Best Sellers Rank on the page, a 2.1 cu ft oven, and a BTU figure that could mean three different things.

Key Specifications

Width class 20 in; 19.75 in stated
Oven capacity 2.1 cu ft
Cooktop burners Four; “8800 BTU output”, basis not stated
Ignition Automatic electronic ignition
Gas setup Not stated
Conversion kit Not stated
Features Dial controls; oven light; 60-minute timer; framed glass door
Dimensions 19.75 W x 25.0 (length field) x 40.25 H in
Listed weight 104.0 pounds
Certification ETLus listed; DOE certified
Warranty 1 year limited
Best Sellers Rank #364 overall; #3 in Freestanding Ranges

Why We Recommend It

This is the range shoppers pick most often on this page. It ranks #364 overall and #3 in Freestanding Ranges, ahead of every 24-inch model here. It is sold by Amazon.com and was scarce at capture. For a buyer searching for the best 20 inch gas stove, it is the obvious first look, and on oven space it is one of the smaller choices.

2.1 cu ft is second-smallest in the 20-inch group. The bullet says “The 20 inch freestanding footprint and 2.1 cu. ft. oven”, about 0.105 cu ft per inch by our arithmetic. Only the Lamazze, at 2.05, is smaller. The Magnificent Chef 20-inch and the unbranded 68-litre range both hold about 0.3 cu ft more in the same width, and the Summit 0.2 more. Stepping to the Avanti 24-inch adds 0.5 cu ft.

The BTU claim needs a question. “Four gas burners and 8800 BTU output help you prepare multiple dishes.” The listing does not say whether 8,800 BTU is each burner, the largest burner or the whole cooktop. If it is the total, it would be well under half the Lamazze’s stated 21,200 BTU; if it is per burner, it would be close to the white Avanti’s 9,000. Those are very different cooktops. Ask the seller, or read the manual, before comparing it with anything.

The gas setup is not stated. No factory gas type, no kit. Like its stainless 24-inch sibling, the listing leaves it out entirely. Ignition is named: “Dial controls, automatic electronic ignition, an oven light, and a 60 minute timer.” Broiler and convection are not stated.

What to weigh. It is “DOE certification, ETLus listing, and a 1 year limited warranty”, and its energy field reads “Energy Star Certified”, a claim we cannot check from the listing. It lists 104.0 pounds, 40.25 inches tall and 19.75 inches wide. Its rank says it is the default choice; its listing says to confirm the burner output and the gas type before you make it yours.

Pros

  • Best rank on the page, #3 in Freestanding Ranges
  • Automatic electronic ignition stated
  • Oven light and 60-minute timer
  • ETLus listed; DOE certified
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • 19.75 in stated width

Cons

  • 2.1 cu ft, second-smallest oven here
  • “8800 BTU output” basis not stated
  • Gas type and conversion not stated
  • Broiler not stated
  • Scarce stock at capture
  • 1-year warranty

Best for: A 20-inch natural gas kitchen, confirmed from the manual, that wants the most widely chosen compact range here.

10. Lamazze 20-Inch Gas Range, 4 Sealed Burners, 21,200 BTU, 2.05 Cu Ft (White) — Clearest Gas Setup

White 20-inch gas range with continuous black cast iron grates, metal control knobs and a storage drawer

The most complete gas paperwork on the page, natural gas stated with an LP kit included, on the smallest oven and the gentlest cooktop.

Key Specifications

Width class 20 in
Oven capacity 2.05 cu ft
Cooktop burners 8,500, 5,000, 5,000 and 2,700 BTU; 21,200 total stated
Oven burners 6,500 BTU bake; 6,500 BTU broil; 13,000 combined stated
Gas setup Ready for natural gas
Conversion kit LP conversion kit included
Ignition Not stated
Door and light Triple-layer tempered glass; G9 halogen light
Grates Continuous cast iron
Listed weight 118.6 pounds
Warranty 2 years on parts and labor
Best Sellers Rank #14,783 overall; #526 in Freestanding Ranges

Why We Recommend It

No other listing answers the gas question as completely. “Comes ready for natural gas and includes a liquid propane (LP) conversion kit and adjustable legs.” It is the only range on the page that states both the factory gas type and an included kit. Every other listing leaves out one half or both. For a buyer who does not yet know whether the next kitchen will be on a main or a tank, that is a real advantage. It does not change who fits the kit: conversion is work for a qualified, licensed gas installer following the manual and local code.

Every flame is itemised. “An 8,500 BTU rapid burner for quick boiling, two 5,000 BTU semi-rapid burners for everyday tasks, and a 2,700 BTU simmer burner for delicate sauces.” Those add to the 21,200 BTU in the title, which we checked. The oven is “split into a 6,500 BTU bake element and a 6,500 BTU broil element”. The 2,700 BTU simmer burner is the lowest figure printed anywhere on the page, which is good news for sauces and melting chocolate.

It is also the gentlest cooktop here. 21,200 BTU in total is about 41% of the KoolMore’s 51,500, by our arithmetic, and its 8,500 BTU rapid burner is less than half the Haven’s 18,000. Against the Summit, another 20-inch range, the Lamazze gives up 3,500 BTU on the biggest burner and 14,800 BTU across the cooktop. It will boil water, but more slowly than the stronger ranges here.

The oven is the smallest on the page. “2.05 CU. FT. OVEN WITH 13,000 BTU OUTPUT”, about 0.103 cu ft per inch by our arithmetic. Per cubic foot, its 6,500 BTU bake burner works out at about 3,170 BTU, close to the Haven’s 12,000 BTU on 3.7 cu ft at about 3,240, our arithmetic. So the oven is small, not underpowered for its size. It has “an internal cooling fan” for thermal management, which is not the same as convection, and the listing does not claim convection.

What to weigh. The build details are generous: “thick, triple-layer tempered glass”, a “G9 halogen light”, “5 heavy-duty zinc-coated metal knobs”, continuous cast iron grates and a storage drawer. The warranty is “2 year on parts and labor”. The brand and manufacturer fields both read Forno. It lists 118.6 pounds, is sold by Home Best Price Products Inc., and ranks #14,783 overall, the lowest rank on the page. Ignition and exterior dimensions are not stated.

Pros

  • Natural gas stated and LP kit included
  • Every burner and oven BTU itemised
  • 2,700 BTU simmer burner, lowest on the page
  • Triple-layer glass door; halogen light
  • Continuous cast iron grates
  • 2 years on parts and labor

Cons

  • Smallest oven here, 2.05 cu ft
  • Lowest cooktop total, 21,200 BTU
  • Ignition not stated
  • Exterior dimensions not stated
  • Convection not stated
  • Lowest rank on the page

Best for: A 20-inch kitchen that may move between natural gas and propane and values gentle simmering over fast boiling.

Oven per Inch: What Each Width Actually Holds

Width is the number every compact range buyer starts with, because it is the number the kitchen dictates. Oven capacity is what you cook in. The table below sets the two side by side, and divides one by the other. The last column is our arithmetic: stated capacity divided by the nominal width class. It is a way to compare, not a measurement of usable rack space.

Range Width class Width stated Oven stated Cu ft per inch (ours)
Cosmo Haven Collection 24 in 23.88 in (bullet); 23.8 in (spec) 3.7 cu ft About 0.154
KoolMore Slide-In 24 in Not stated 3.7 cu ft (title); 3.46 (bullet) About 0.144–0.154
Magnificent Chef 24″ 24 in 24 in 3.0 cu ft About 0.125
Magnificent Chef 20″ 20 in 20 in 2.4 cu ft About 0.120
Unbranded 68L 20 in Not stated 68 L (about 2.40 cu ft) About 0.120
Summit RG201B 20 in 19.5 in 2.3 cu ft About 0.115
Avanti GRO24P0W 24 in 23.5 in 2.6 cu ft About 0.108
Avanti GR2416CSS 24 in 23.5 in 2.6 cu ft About 0.108
Avanti GR2013CSS 20 in 19.75 in 2.1 cu ft About 0.105
Lamazze 20 in Not stated 2.05 cu ft About 0.103

The spread inside one width is bigger than the step between widths. In the 24-inch class, capacity runs from 2.6 to 3.7 cu ft, a 42% spread by our arithmetic. In the 20-inch class it runs from 2.05 to 2.4, about 17%. The step from a 20-inch to a 24-inch range in the same brand adds 0.5 cu ft at Avanti and 0.6 at Magnificent Chef. So the choice of model inside a width moves the oven more than the choice of width does.

The best 20-inch ovens nearly match the smallest 24-inch ones. The Magnificent Chef 20-inch states 2.4 cu ft and the unbranded range about 2.40 by our conversion. Both Avanti 24-inch ranges state 2.6. That is a 0.2 cu ft difference for four inches of width. If your kitchen can take 24 inches but would rather have the counter, a 20-inch range with a 2.4 cu ft oven gives up surprisingly little.

The top of the page carries about half as much again per inch as the bottom. The Haven’s 0.154 is about 1.5 times the Lamazze’s 0.103, by our arithmetic. The difference comes partly from depth and height. The Haven is 27.6 inches deep where the Magnificent Chef 24-inch is 22.5, and an oven can only grow backwards if the body does. That is why depth belongs on the tape-measure list beside width.

Treat the numbers as listed, not as measured. Manufacturers measure capacity in different ways, and a stated figure may or may not count the space taken by racks and burner covers. The KoolMore states two figures 0.24 cu ft apart. A sheet pan or a roasting tin fits by its width and depth, not by cubic feet, so if you bake on full-size sheets, ask for interior dimensions before you buy the smallest ovens here.

Choux pastry on a baking tray inside an oven
At 24 inches, stated ovens run from 2.6 to 3.7 cu ft: the model moves capacity more than the width does.

Natural Gas, Propane and Who Fits the Kit

A gas range is built for one gas at a time. Natural gas arrives from a utility main at low pressure; propane (LP) comes from a tank at a different pressure and burns with a different energy content. The burner orifices and the pressure regulator have to match the gas, which is why a range sold for one needs converting before it runs on the other. Here is exactly what each listing says, in its own words.

Range Factory gas stated Conversion kit Listing wording
Lamazze Natural gas LP kit included “Comes ready for natural gas and includes a liquid propane (LP) conversion kit”
Cosmo Haven Collection Natural gas Sold separately “Natural Gas; Liquid Propane Conversion Kit sold separately”
Magnificent Chef 24″ Natural gas Not stated “Ready for natural gas use but can be adapted for propane use by switching the valves”
Magnificent Chef 20″ Natural gas Not stated Same wording as the 24-inch model
Avanti GRO24P0W Not stated Propane kit included “Included propane conversion kit”
Unbranded 68L Not stated NG-LPG kit in title “(NG-LPG Conversion Kit)”
Avanti GR2416CSS Not stated Not stated No mention
Avanti GR2013CSS Not stated Not stated No mention
KoolMore Slide-In Not stated Not stated No mention
Summit RG201B Not stated Not stated No mention

Four state natural gas, three include a kit, and four say nothing. Only the Lamazze states both halves. The Haven states natural gas and tells you the kit costs extra. Both Magnificent Chefs state natural gas and describe a valve change with no kit mentioned. The white Avanti and the unbranded range include a kit without stating the gas they leave the factory on. And the stainless Avanti 24-inch, the Avanti 20-inch, the KoolMore and the Summit, which between them include the two best-ranked ranges on the page, never mention gas type or conversion at all.

For a propane kitchen, the shortlist is short. On the listings alone, the white Avanti is the only 24-inch range with a kit in the box, and the Lamazze is the only 20-inch range that states both its factory gas and an included kit. The unbranded range includes a kit but does not say which direction it converts. The Haven and the Magnificent Chefs can be converted, by their own wording, with a kit bought separately or a valve change. For the four silent listings, the manual is the only source; read it before you order.

A kit in the box is a part, not permission. Converting a range means swapping orifices, setting or flipping the regulator and adjusting the low flame on every burner, then checking every joint for leaks. Done wrong, it can produce oversized flames, sooting and carbon monoxide. Installation and any natural gas or propane conversion should be carried out by a qualified, licensed gas installer following the manufacturer’s manual and local code. Do not attempt gas line work or a conversion yourself, and do not connect a range to a supply it has not been set up for.

Burners, Ignition, Convection and Broilers, Where Stated

All ten ranges have four burners. That is where the agreement ends. Some listings print a figure for every burner, some give a total, some describe burners by speed, and two give nothing a buyer can compare. The table records every figure as printed; totals marked as ours are our addition.

Range Burner BTUs Cooktop total Ignition Convection Broiler
KoolMore 18,000 front; others not itemised 51,500 stated Not stated Yes, fan Broiling mentioned; no detail
Cosmo Haven 18,000 / 12,000 / 9,000 / 3,500 42,500 (ours) Not stated Yes, fan 10,000 BTU broil burner
Summit 12,000 / 9,500 / 9,500 / 5,000 36,000 (ours) Electronic spark Not stated Drop-down compartment; pan included
Avanti GRO24P0W 9,000 x 4 36,000 (ours) Electronic Not stated Broiler drawer
Lamazze 8,500 / 5,000 / 5,000 / 2,700 21,200 stated Not stated No; cooling fan only 6,500 BTU broil element
Avanti GR2013CSS “8800 BTU output” Basis not stated Automatic electronic Not stated Not stated
Avanti GR2416CSS Rapid, semi-rapid, simmer; no figures Not stated Automatic electronic Not stated “Bake and broil”; location not stated
Magnificent Chef 24″ 1 ultra-fast, 3 fast; no figures Not stated Not stated Not stated Not stated
Magnificent Chef 20″ 1 ultra-fast, 3 fast; no figures Not stated Not stated Not stated Not stated
Unbranded 68L Not stated Not stated Not stated Not stated; rotary baking Not stated

The top burner is where the cooktops really differ. The Haven and the KoolMore both print 18,000 BTU; the Summit 12,000; the white Avanti 9,000; the Lamazze 8,500. A high burner is what brings a big pot to the boil and keeps a wok or a heavy griddle hot. If you plan to run a long plate across two burners, our stovetop griddle for gas stoves guide covers fit and spacing, and our cookware for gas stove roundup looks at pans that suit a gas flame.

The bottom burner matters as much for everyday cooking. Three listings print a dedicated low burner: the Lamazze at 2,700 BTU, the Haven at 3,500 and the Summit at 5,000. The stainless Avanti names a simmer burner without a number. Four equal 9,000 BTU burners, on the white Avanti, give you no stated low burner at all.

Four name ignition, and none of them is battery spark. The Summit says electronic spark ignition; the three Avantis say electronic or automatic electronic ignition. The other six do not name an ignition type. Electronic ignition draws mains power for the spark, so the range needs a suitable outlet behind it, and the manual sets out how to light the burners by hand if the power fails.

Two claim convection. The Haven and the KoolMore both describe a fan that circulates hot air around the oven. The Lamazze’s fan is described as an internal cooling fan for thermal management, and the unbranded range describes rotary baking without saying what rotates. Neither of those is a convection claim, and we do not count them as one.

Venting, Carbon Monoxide and Safe Use

Every range on this page burns gas indoors, in a home kitchen, and that comes with a short list of non-negotiables that no listing spells out.

  • Professional installation. Have a qualified, licensed gas installer connect the range, check for leaks and carry out any conversion, following the manual and local code. Never attempt DIY gas line work.
  • Vent with a range hood. Gas burners release combustion products and moisture along with cooking fumes. A hood that vents outdoors, run whenever the burners or oven are on, is the best way to clear them. Match the hood to the range width or go wider; our small range hood guide and our 30-inch under-cabinet range hood roundup cover compact and 30-inch options, and our 30-inch range hood insert guide covers built-in hoods for custom cabinetry.
  • Fit a carbon monoxide alarm. Put a working carbon monoxide alarm in or near the kitchen and on every sleeping level, and test it regularly. A flame that burns yellow, soots pans or smells unusual is a reason to stop using the range and call a gas professional.
  • Cook only. Never use a gas range or its oven to heat a room. Running burners or an open oven door for warmth is a carbon monoxide risk.
  • Fit the anti-tip hardware the manual specifies. A compact range with an open oven door can tip if weight goes on the door. Follow the installation instructions.

Best Sellers Rank Rewards the Smallest Ovens per Inch

Star ratings were not captured for this roundup, so the only popularity measure here is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank, as returned on 5 October 2026. Amazon files all ten in Freestanding Ranges, which makes the category ranks comparable, though ranks move constantly.

The three Avantis take the top three places. They are among the four smallest ovens per inch on the page, and two of the three say nothing about gas. They are also sold by Amazon.com and are long-established model numbers, which likely matters more to rank than any spec. The Haven, a near tie with the white Avanti on rank, holds 1.1 cu ft more oven. Rank tells you what is chosen; the listing tells you what you are choosing.

Best Alternatives

Alternative Why Consider It Better For Main Trade-Off
A 30-inch gas range Standard width, far more oven and burner choice Kitchens that can widen the cabinet gap Needs six to ten more inches of run and a matching hood
A 24-inch gas cooktop with a separate wall oven Splits burners and oven into different cabinets Remodels with tall-cabinet space Two appliances to buy, fit and connect
A 24-inch electric or induction range No gas supply or conversion needed Homes without a gas line Needs a high-amp circuit; no flame cooking
A compact range hood upgrade; see our small range hood guide Clears combustion products from the range you already have Small kitchens with a weak or recirculating hood Ducting work may need a contractor

What Each Step Up Actually Buys

The 20-inch ranges: Lamazze, Avanti 20-inch, Summit, unbranded, Magnificent Chef 20-inch. 2.05 to 2.4 cu ft. Within this group the step up buys either documentation or oven. The Lamazze buys the clearest gas setup and every BTU itemised; the Summit buys the strongest stated burners, named ignition and a broiler compartment; the Magnificent Chef buys the most oven among named brands and a 2-year warranty; the Avanti buys the rank.

The small 24-inch ranges: the two Avantis. 2.6 cu ft, about 0.108 per inch. Stepping up from a 20-inch Avanti buys 0.5 cu ft. The white model adds a propane kit and four printed 9,000 BTU burners; the stainless model adds a named simmer burner and the best 24-inch rank.

The middle 24-inch range: Magnificent Chef 24-inch. 3.0 cu ft. Stepping up from an Avanti buys 0.4 cu ft, natural gas stated, a 2-year warranty and the shallowest stated depth on the page, without burner figures.

The big 24-inch ranges: Haven and KoolMore. 3.7 cu ft as titled, with convection and 18,000 BTU top burners. Stepping up from an Avanti buys 1.1 cu ft, a fan, and twice the top-burner output of the white Avanti. The Haven adds a full BTU breakdown and natural gas stated; the KoolMore adds a slide-in body, the highest cooktop total and a capacity question.

Size does not track rank. The two ranges with the biggest ovens sit fourth and sixth by rank, and the three with the most buyers have among the smallest ovens per inch. On this page, the extra you pay buys measurable oven and burner output; the gas setup you have to read for yourself.

What to Check Before You Buy

Measure Width, Depth and Height

Listed widths here run from 19.5 inches on the Summit to 24 inches on the Magnificent Chef 24-inch. Depths run from 22.5 inches on the Magnificent Chef 24-inch to 27.6 on the Haven, and heights from 36 to 42 1/8 inches. Measure the gap at the back, middle and front, the depth of your counter run, and the clearance to any overhead cabinet. Three listings give no exterior dimensions at all.

Divide the Oven by the Width

Take the stated capacity and divide it by 24 or 20. On this page the results run from about 0.103 to about 0.154 cu ft per inch, by our arithmetic. Anything near 0.15 is a big oven for its width; anything near 0.10 is a small one. Where a listing gives two capacities, use the smaller.

Confirm the Gas Type Before You Order

Four listings state natural gas and four say nothing. If your supply is propane, look for a stated kit (the white Avanti, the Lamazze, the unbranded range) or confirm from the manual that one exists. Whatever the listing says, conversion is a job for a qualified, licensed gas installer following the manual and local code.

Look for the Burner Figures You Need

Two numbers matter: the top burner for boiling and searing, and the lowest for simmering. On this page the top runs from 18,000 BTU down to 8,500 where stated, and the lowest from 2,700 up to 5,000. Four listings print no burner figures at all, and one prints a number with no basis.

Check the Certification Mark

The three Avantis state ETLus; both Magnificent Chefs and the KoolMore state CSA. The Haven, Summit, Lamazze and unbranded listings do not name one. A recognised safety listing for a gas appliance is worth confirming with the seller, and your installer may ask for it.

Plan the Range Hood and the Alarm

Budget for a hood that vents outdoors and is at least as wide as the range, and for a carbon monoxide alarm near the kitchen and on every sleeping level. A compact range in a small room is exactly where ventilation matters most.

Read the Delivery and Warranty Terms

Five ranges are sold by Amazon.com; the Magnificent Chefs come from Abba LLC with a delivery appointment. Warranties run from one year on the Avantis, Haven and KoolMore to two years on the Magnificent Chefs and Lamazze, with the Summit and unbranded listings giving no clear term. Weights run from 58.0 to 146.6 pounds, so plan for two people and a clear path.

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming every 24-inch range holds the same oven. Capacity here runs from 2.6 to 3.7 cu ft in the same width, a 42% spread by our arithmetic.
  • Ordering before confirming the gas type. Four of ten listings never say whether the range is set up for natural gas or propane.
  • Treating an included kit as a DIY job. Conversion means orifices and a regulator; a qualified, licensed gas installer should fit it to the manual and local code.
  • Measuring width and forgetting depth. Stated depths run from 22.5 to 27.6 inches, and the 20-inch Magnificent Chef is deeper than the 24-inch one.
  • Taking the bigger of two capacity figures. The KoolMore says 3.7 cu ft in its title and 3.46 in a bullet; plan for 3.46.
  • Comparing a BTU figure without its basis. The Avanti 20-inch says “8800 BTU output” without saying whether that is one burner or all four.
  • Skipping the hood and the carbon monoxide alarm. Every range here burns gas indoors; vent it outdoors with a range hood and fit a CO alarm.
  • Using the range to heat the kitchen. Never run burners or an open oven for warmth; it is a carbon monoxide risk on any of these ten.

Who Should Buy Which

Buy the Cosmo Haven Collection if you are on natural gas and want the most oven in 24 inches. 3.7 cu ft with convection, an 18,000 BTU burner and a 3,500 BTU simmer, and every flame itemised. Accept the 27.6-inch depth, 146.6 pounds, a separate LP kit if you need one, and no named certification.

Buy the KoolMore if you want a slide-in look and the biggest stated cooktop total. 51,500 BTU, an 18,000 BTU front burner, convection and CSA certification. Plan around 3.46 cu ft rather than the 3.7 in the title, and confirm the gas type and dimensions first.

Buy the Magnificent Chef 24-inch if your kitchen is shallow. 3.0 cu ft in a 22.5-inch depth, natural gas stated, CSA certified and a 2-year warranty. Accept that no burner figures are printed.

Buy the Magnificent Chef 20-inch if oven space matters most in 20 inches. 2.4 cu ft, natural gas stated and a 2-year warranty. Accept the 24 3/8-inch depth and no burner figures.

Buy the unbranded 68L range only after the seller confirms the gas setup, certification and warranty. It states about 2.40 cu ft by our conversion and a conversion kit, and very little else.

Buy the Summit RG201B if you want real high and low burners in 20 inches. 12,000 down to 5,000 BTU, electronic spark ignition, a broiler compartment with pan, and ADA compliance. Confirm the gas type and warranty term first.

Buy the white Avanti GRO24P0W if you cook on propane in a 24-inch slot. The kit is in the box, with four 9,000 BTU burners, a broiler drawer and ETLus listing. Accept the smallest 24-inch oven and no stated simmer burner.

Buy the stainless Avanti GR2416CSS if you want the best-selling 24-inch range on natural gas. A named simmer burner, automatic electronic ignition and ETLus listing. Confirm the gas type from the manual.

Buy the Avanti GR2013CSS if you want the most widely chosen 20-inch range. It ranks #3 in Freestanding Ranges with automatic electronic ignition. Confirm what its “8800 BTU output” means and which gas it is set up for.

Buy the Lamazze if you may move between natural gas and propane. Natural gas stated, LP kit included, every BTU itemised and a 2,700 BTU simmer, with 2 years on parts and labor. Accept the smallest oven and the gentlest cooktop on the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best 24 inch gas stove?

For most natural gas kitchens, the Cosmo Haven Collection 24-inch gas range. It states a 3.7 cu ft convection oven with no conflicting figure elsewhere on the listing, which is about 0.154 cu ft per inch of width by our arithmetic, the most of any uncontested 24-inch listing here. It also itemises every burner, 18,000, 12,000, 9,000 and 3,500 BTU, plus a 12,000 BTU bake burner and a 10,000 BTU broil burner, and states natural gas, with the LP conversion kit sold separately. Its weaknesses are depth, 27.6 inches, weight, 146.6 pounds, and no named safety certification. If you cook on propane, the white Avanti GRO24P0W includes a propane conversion kit and four 9,000 BTU burners, with a smaller 2.6 cu ft oven. If you want a slide-in, the KoolMore is the only one here. Whichever you choose, have a qualified, licensed gas installer connect it.

What is the best 20 inch gas stove?

It depends on what you value most. The Summit RG201B is the best-documented: four burner figures from 12,000 down to 5,000 BTU, electronic spark ignition, a drop-down broiler compartment with a two-piece broiler pan, and an ADA compliance claim, with a 2.3 cu ft oven. It does not state its gas type, so confirm that first. For the most oven, the Magnificent Chef 20-inch states 2.4 cu ft, natural gas and a 2-year warranty, but no burner figures. For the clearest gas setup, the Lamazze states natural gas and includes an LP kit, with every BTU itemised, on the smallest oven here at 2.05 cu ft. The Avanti GR2013CSS has the best Best Sellers Rank on the page, #3 in Freestanding Ranges, but its burner output and gas type need confirming before you compare it with anything.

How much oven space does a 24-inch gas range have?

On this page, between 2.6 and 3.7 cubic feet as stated. The two Avantis state 2.6 cu ft, the Magnificent Chef 3.0, and the Haven 3.7. The KoolMore gives 3.7 in its title and 3.46 in a bullet, so plan around the smaller figure until the manufacturer confirms. That is a 42% spread inside one width, by our arithmetic, which is more than the difference between a typical 20-inch and 24-inch model from the same brand: 0.5 cu ft at Avanti and 0.6 at Magnificent Chef. For comparison, the 20-inch ranges here state 2.05 to 2.4 cu ft. Capacity figures are measured differently by different manufacturers, and a sheet pan fits by interior width and depth rather than cubic feet, so if you bake on full-size sheets, ask for interior dimensions before you buy one of the smaller ovens.

Can a 24-inch gas range be converted to propane?

Many can, but check the listing and the manual, and leave the work to a professional. On this page, the white Avanti GRO24P0W is the only 24-inch range that includes a propane conversion kit. The Haven states natural gas with an LP kit sold separately. The Magnificent Chef states natural gas and says it can be adapted for propane by switching the valves, without mentioning a kit. The stainless Avanti and the KoolMore do not mention gas type or conversion at all. A conversion changes the burner orifices and the pressure regulator and resets the low flame on each burner, and a mistake can cause oversized flames, sooting or carbon monoxide. It should be carried out by a qualified, licensed gas installer following the manufacturer’s manual and local code. Never attempt gas line work or a conversion yourself.

Do I need a range hood for a 24-inch gas stove?

Yes, you should vent any gas range. Burning gas produces combustion products, including carbon dioxide, water vapour and small amounts of carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide, on top of the grease and smoke from cooking itself. A range hood that vents outdoors, switched on whenever the burners or oven are running, is the most effective way to clear them, and it matters more in the small kitchens these compact ranges are made for. Choose a hood at least as wide as the range; a 24-inch range can sit under a 24-inch or a 30-inch hood. Our small range hood guide and 30-inch under-cabinet range hood roundup cover both. Also fit a working carbon monoxide alarm in or near the kitchen and on every sleeping level, test it regularly, and never use the range or oven to heat the room.

Will a 24-inch range fit a 24-inch gap?

Usually, because most 24-inch ranges are slightly narrower than their class. On this page the Avantis list 23.5 inches and the Haven 23.88 or 23.8, while the Magnificent Chef lists a full 24 inches. A range that is exactly the width of the gap leaves no room for an uneven wall or cabinet, so measure the gap at the back, middle and front and compare with the stated width. Then check depth and height. Stated depths run from 22.5 inches on the Magnificent Chef to 27.6 on the Haven, and heights from 36 inches on the Haven to over 41 on the Magnificent Chef. The KoolMore, a slide-in, gives no exterior dimensions, so its cutout and countertop fit must come from the installation manual. Leave the gas connection position and anti-tip bracket to your licensed installer.

How many BTUs should a compact gas range burner have?

Look at two numbers rather than a total: the strongest burner and the weakest. The strongest decides how quickly a big pot boils and how well a wok or griddle stays hot. On this page the Haven and the KoolMore print 18,000 BTU, the Summit 12,000, the white Avanti 9,000 and the Lamazze 8,500. The weakest decides how gently you can simmer. The Lamazze prints 2,700 BTU, the Haven 3,500 and the Summit 5,000; the stainless Avanti names a simmer burner without a figure. Totals can mislead: the Summit and the white Avanti both add up to 36,000 BTU by our arithmetic, but one has a 12,000 and a 5,000 burner and the other has four at 9,000. Four listings print no burner figures, and the Avanti 20-inch prints 8,800 BTU without saying what it applies to.

Do any compact gas ranges have convection?

Two of the ten listings here claim it. The Cosmo Haven Collection describes a convection oven with a fan that distributes heat evenly around the food, and the KoolMore slide-in describes a built-in convection fan that circulates hot air throughout the oven cavity. Both are 24-inch ranges with the largest stated ovens on the page. None of the 20-inch ranges claims convection. The Lamazze has an internal cooling fan, described as thermal management, which is not the same thing, and the unbranded 68-litre range describes 360-degree rotary baking without saying what rotates. Convection helps with even browning across several racks and can shorten some cooking times, but it adds a fan to service. If you bake on more than one rack at a time, it is worth paying for; if you mostly roast or bake one tray, a conventional oven works well.

Final Verdict

Best OverallCosmo Haven Collection 24-Inch Gas Range

3.7 cu ft with convection, about 0.154 cu ft per inch by our arithmetic, every BTU itemised and natural gas stated.

Best ValueAvanti GRO24P0W 24-Inch Gas Range

The only 24-inch listing with a propane conversion kit in the box, four 9,000 BTU burners and a broiler drawer.

Best 20-InchSummit RG201B 20-Inch Gas Range

12,000 to 5,000 BTU burners, electronic spark ignition and a broiler compartment with pan, in 19.5 inches.

Ten compact gas ranges fit two widths, and the oven inside each width varies far more than the width does. At 24 inches, stated capacity runs from 2.6 to 3.7 cu ft, a 42% spread by our arithmetic. At 20 inches it runs from 2.05 to 2.4. The best 20-inch ovens come within 0.2 cu ft of the smallest 24-inch ones.

The gas setup is the other half of the decision, and four listings leave it out. Four state natural gas, three put a conversion kit in the box, and only the Lamazze does both. The two best-ranked ranges on the page say nothing about gas at all. Whatever a listing says, installation and any conversion belong to a qualified, licensed gas installer working from the manual and local code, and the range belongs under a vented hood with a carbon monoxide alarm nearby.

So buy a compact gas range by oven per inch and gas setup, then by burners. Divide the stated oven by the width, plan around the smaller figure where a listing gives two, and confirm the factory gas type and kit before you order. Then look for a printed top burner and a printed simmer burner, and a named safety certification.

If you buy one range from this page, make it the Cosmo Haven Collection: the most oven per inch of any uncontested 24-inch listing, convection, an 18,000 BTU burner and natural gas stated. If you cook on propane, the white Avanti GRO24P0W puts the kit in the box; if you have 20 inches, the Summit RG201B documents its burners, ignition and broiler best.
