Most people shopping for a garbage disposal are replacing one, and there is already a mounting ring bolted under the sink. Read ten best-selling listings side by side and the first thing that sorts them is not horsepower. It is that ring.
The ten name three mount systems. Four belong to the InSinkErator family: the three InSinkErator units and the Moen Chef Series, which says it “Fits most existing assemblies, including InSinkErator brand”. Three name an EZ Mount, two a standard 3-bolt mount, and the GE GFC320N names none. So whichever mount you own, at most four of these ten say they will go straight onto it. Even the best seller on the page, the InSinkErator Badger 5, fits InSinkErator hardware only.
This guide sorts the ten by mount family first, then sets out horsepower, feed, grind stages, grind parts, noise claims, cord, septic claim and warranty exactly as each listing states them. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. Mounts are as each listing names them. The Evolution does not use the words “existing InSinkErator hardware”; it is grouped with the InSinkErator family by brand and by its Lift and Latch install, and it ships with its own flange. Waste King and GE both use the name EZ Mount; neither listing says whether the two are the same hardware. “Included (title)” means the cord is named in the product title rather than in a bullet. Where a listing gives one warranty in a bullet and another in its spec table, both are shown. The Frigidaire’s 12 years comes only from its spec field; no bullet repeats it. Best Sellers Ranks are in the detail cards and the rank table below, as returned on 5 October 2026. Two of the InSinkErator Badgers were sold by third-party sellers with scarce stock at capture; the other eight were sold by Amazon.com. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for any product here.

How We Chose These Ten
We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read each listing’s claims about its motor, its mount, its grind parts, its power cord and its warranty line by line. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these disposals.
- Under-sink food waste disposers only — every product here is a motorised disposer that mounts to the drain opening of a kitchen sink. Compost bins, sink strainers and commercial disposers were not in the running.
- Mount recorded in the listing’s own words — EZ Mount, 3-bolt, “existing InSinkErator hardware” or a cross-fit claim, exactly as printed. Where a listing names no mount, we say so rather than guess.
- Horsepower as stated, never as a score — we quote the HP figure each listing gives and set it beside the size, weight and household guidance that come with it. More horsepower is not treated as automatically better.
- Feed type, grind stages and grind parts logged separately — continuous or batch feed, any stated number of grind stages, and whether the grind components are described as stainless steel, galvanised steel or not at all.
- Noise claims kept as claims — named insulation such as SoundSHIELD or SoundSeal is recorded, but no listing prints a decibel figure, so no disposal here is called the quietest.
- Power and septic claims checked word by word — cord included, sold separately or not stated, and a septic-safe claim only where the listing makes one.
- Conflicts reported, not resolved — where a bullet and a spec field give different warranties or model numbers, both appear.
- Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only, and verified stock — ranks are quoted as returned on 5 October 2026, and each product was the buy-box offer and in stock on amazon.com that day.

The Ten Garbage Disposals in Detail
1. Moen L-8000 Waste King 1 HP Garbage Disposal with Power Cord — Best Overall

The most complete spec sheet in the EZ Mount group: 1 HP, stainless grind parts, a cord and the longest warranty on the page.
Key Specifications
| Model | L-8000 |
|---|---|
| Motor | 1 HP, 2,800 RPM permanent magnet, sound-insulated |
| Feed type | Continuous feed, wall switch activated |
| Grind stages | Not stated |
| Grind components | All stainless steel, corrosion-resistant |
| Sound | Motor described as sound-insulated; no figure |
| Power cord | Pre-installed |
| Mount | EZ Mount, included |
| Septic-safe claim | Not stated |
| Warranty | 20-year limited in-home (bullet); “Limited” (spec field) |
| Best Sellers Rank | #9,084 overall; #11 in Garbage Disposals |
| Best For | An EZ Mount swap where cord, stainless parts and a long warranty all matter |
Why We Recommend It
This is the EZ Mount disposal that answers the most questions in writing. The title is unusual: “Moen L-8000 Waste King 1 HP Garbage Disposal with Power Cord”, while the brand and manufacturer fields both say Waste King. The listing then fills in most of the checklist this guide uses. A 1 HP motor. “2,800 RPM”. “Corrosion-resistant, all stainless-steel grind components”. “Continuous feed”. A pre-installed cord. The “included EZ Mount”. And “a 20-year limited in-home warranty”.
The mount makes it a straight swap for one group of buyers. If the disposal you are taking out is a Waste King, or anything else on an EZ Mount, this is one of three listings on the page that name that system, alongside the smaller Waste King L-111 and the GE GFC525N. The listing promises “the included EZ Mount for quick kitchen sink installation, plus a removable splashguard for simple cleaning”. If you have an InSinkErator ring under the sink, the listing does not claim to fit it, and you should expect to change the flange as part of the job.
1 HP here comes with a physical cost. The listed size is 16.0 inches tall and 7.5 inches across, and the listed weight 14.75 pounds. It shares the tallest listed height on the page with the Moen Chef Series. That is 4.5 inches taller than the InSinkErator Badger 5, by our arithmetic, and it is the measurement to check against the space between the bottom of your sink and the trap or the cabinet floor before anything else. A motor does more work with more horsepower; whether you need that work depends on what goes down the drain, and the listing’s own wording, “quick, uninterrupted grinding of food waste”, is about speed rather than any food it can or cannot take.
The warranty needs one caveat. The bullet says 20 years of limited in-home cover. The spec field says only “Limited”, with no term. We report both. Twenty years is the longest term stated anywhere on the page, ten years more than the Moen Chef Series and eight more than the Frigidaire’s spec-field figure. An in-home term means someone comes to the house under the warranty, which matters for a unit that is awkward to remove; read the written warranty for what it covers before you rely on the number.
What the listing leaves out. It does not give a number of grind stages, does not make a septic claim and does not quantify the sound insulation. It says the permanent magnet motor “jams less”, without a comparison. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #9,084 overall and #11 in Garbage Disposals, the seventh-best rank in disposals on the page. Two of the six better-ranked units are 1/3 HP, one is 1/2 HP and two are 3/4 HP, which is a fair reminder that most buyers are not shopping by horsepower.
Pros
- 1 HP, 2,800 RPM motor stated
- All stainless steel grind components stated
- Pre-installed power cord
- EZ Mount included for Waste King swaps
- 20-year limited in-home warranty in its bullets
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Spec field gives only “Limited” for the warranty
- 16.0 in tall, the joint tallest here
- No InSinkErator fit claim
- Grind stages not stated
- No septic claim
- No decibel figure for its insulation
Best for: An EZ Mount owner who wants a 1 HP unit with stainless grind parts and a cord, and has the height under the sink for it.
2. Waste King L-111 Compact Garbage Disposal with Power Cord — Best Compact Plug-In

The small, plug-in EZ Mount unit, with the shortest warranty on the page.
Key Specifications
| Model | L-111 |
|---|---|
| Motor | 1/3 HP, 1,900 RPM, 115 volt permanent magnet |
| Feed type | Continuous feed (spec field) |
| Grind stages | Not stated |
| Grind components | Not stated |
| Sound | Not stated |
| Power cord | Pre-installed |
| Mount | EZ Mount; removable splashguard |
| Septic-safe claim | Not stated |
| Warranty | 2-year limited in-home |
| Best Sellers Rank | #4,313 overall; #6 in Garbage Disposals |
| Best For | A light-use sink on an EZ Mount with an outlet underneath |
Why We Recommend It
The L-111 is the small end of the Waste King line, and the listing says so plainly. “Lightweight, low profile garbage disposal maximizes under-sink space.” The listed size is 12.75 inches tall by 5.25 inches across, and the listed weight 7.5 pounds. Next to the L-8000 on the same EZ Mount system, that is 3.25 inches shorter and 7.25 pounds lighter, by our arithmetic. For a cramped cabinet, or a sink where a filter housing already takes one side, those inches are the reason to look at it.
The motor is the slowest stated on the page. 1/3 HP, “1,900 RPM (revolutions per minute), 115 volt permanent magnet motor for less jams”. Every other listing that gives a speed states a higher one: 2,300 RPM and up on the GE GFC320N, 2,400 on the Waste Maid, 2,600 and up on the GE GFC525N, 2,800 on the two 1 HP units. RPM alone does not tell you how a disposal grinds, and the listing makes no claim about tough foods either way. Read it as a disposal for everyday scraps rather than a heavy cook’s kitchen.
The cord is the selling point for a DIY swap. “NO ELECTRICAL WORK OR EXPERTISE NEEDED: 1/3 HP (horsepower) garbage disposal comes with a pre-installed power cord for easy plug-in and no additional electrical work needed.” That holds where there is already a suitable switched outlet under the sink. If the old disposal was hardwired into a junction box, a plug-in unit needs an outlet, and adding one is electrical work that local codes may require a qualified electrician to do.
The warranty is two years. “Backed by a 2-year limited in-home warranty.” That is the shortest term stated on the page; the GE units list seven years and the L-8000 twenty. Continuous feed comes only from the spec field, “1/3 HP – Continuous Feed”, and the listing does not describe what the grind parts are made of, whether there is any sound insulation, or anything about septic systems.
What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #4,313 overall and #6 in Garbage Disposals, ahead of every 1 HP unit on the page. Shoppers clearly value a small plug-in unit. Buy it for the EZ Mount, the cord and the size, and accept a short warranty and a quiet spec sheet.
Pros
- EZ Mount, a straight swap for Waste King owners
- Pre-installed power cord
- 12.75 in tall and 7.5 lb listed
- Continuous feed stated in spec field
- Removable splashguard
- Rank #6 in Garbage Disposals
Cons
- 2-year warranty, the shortest here
- Slowest stated motor, 1,900 RPM
- Grind material not stated
- No sound insulation stated
- No septic claim
- No InSinkErator fit claim
Best for: A small household on an EZ Mount that wants a plug-in unit in a tight cabinet.
3. GE Disposall GFC525N 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposer — Best Value

The only listing of the ten that calls itself septic safe, with a cord, an EZ Mount kit and seven years of cover.
Key Specifications
| Model | GFC525N |
|---|---|
| Motor | 1/2 HP, over 2,600 RPM |
| Feed type | Continuous feed |
| Grind stages | Not stated |
| Grind components | Anti-rust stainless steel blades |
| Sound | “Advanced sound reduction technology”; no figure |
| Power cord | Included |
| Mount | EZ Mount System, easy install kit included |
| Septic-safe claim | Yes, stated |
| Warranty | 7-year limited (bullet); 7-Year Replacement (spec) |
| Best Sellers Rank | #17,941 overall; #14 in Garbage Disposals |
| Best For | A two-to-four person home, especially on a septic system |
Why We Recommend It
One phrase sets this listing apart from the other nine. The last bullet reads: “This septic safe continuous feed garbage disposer reaches over 2,600 RPM to quickly grind cooked meat, beans, seeds, potato peels, and everyday food scraps.” No other listing on the page uses the word septic. If your house drains to a septic tank, that is a claim you can hold the seller to. It is not a guarantee that a disposal suits every system, and the general advice stands: check with whoever services your tank before adding food waste to it.
GE sizes it by household, which is more useful than horsepower alone. The title says “Recommended for 2-4 Person Homes”, and the food list names cooked meat, beans, seeds and potato peels. Its sibling, the GFC320N, is recommended for one or two people and lists softer foods. That framing is honest about what horsepower does: a bigger motor suits more volume and tougher scraps, and a smaller one suits a lighter load. Neither is better in the abstract.
It is an EZ Mount unit with the install kit in the box. “EZ Mount System includes complete easy install kit and power cord for simple 5-step setup. Fits most kitchen setups and connects easily to existing drain systems.” That puts it in the same mount group as the two Waste Kings, although GE’s listing does not say whether its EZ Mount is the same hardware as Waste King’s. With the cord included, an outlet under the sink is all the electrical side needs.
The grind and noise claims are general. It states “durable, anti-rust stainless steel blades”, “Jam Prevention Technology” with “No ‘jam-buster wrench’ needed”, an angled fin to direct water, and “advanced sound reduction technology” for open-plan rooms. It gives no grind-stage count and no decibel figure. The warranty is “a 7-year limited warranty” in the bullet and “7-Year Replacement” in the spec field, which reads like a replacement unit rather than an in-home visit; check the written terms.
What to weigh. Listed at 12.69 inches tall and 8.0 pounds, it is compact for 1/2 HP. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #17,941 overall and #14 in Garbage Disposals. For a mid-size household on an EZ Mount, and for anyone on septic, it is the most directly relevant listing here.
Pros
- Only septic-safe claim on the page
- Power cord included
- EZ Mount System with full install kit
- Stainless steel blades stated
- Clear 2-4 person household guidance
- 7-year warranty; sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Grind stages not stated
- No decibel figure for its sound claim
- Spec field calls the warranty a replacement term
- No InSinkErator fit claim
- Rank #14, behind six smaller or similar units
- EZ Mount not confirmed as Waste King’s
Best for: A household of two to four, on an EZ Mount or a septic tank, that wants a corded 1/2 HP unit.
4. GE Disposall GFC320N 1/3 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposer — Best for One or Two People

The GFC525N’s smaller sibling in the same listed housing, without a cord and without a named mount.
Key Specifications
| Model | GFC320N |
|---|---|
| Motor | 1/3 HP, over 2,300 RPM |
| Feed type | Continuous feed |
| Grind stages | Not stated |
| Grind components | Not stated |
| Grind chamber | 25 ounces stated |
| Sound | Not stated |
| Power cord | Non-corded |
| Mount | Not stated; install kit included |
| Septic-safe claim | Not stated |
| Warranty | 7-Year Replacement |
| Best Sellers Rank | #54,662 overall; #26 in Garbage Disposals |
Why We Recommend It
On paper this is the same box as the GFC525N with a smaller motor in it. The listed dimensions are 12.6875 by 5.1875 by 5.5 inches against 12.69 by 5.19 by 5.5 inches on the GFC525N, which is the same size rounded differently, and both list 8.0 pounds. The model numbers are different, GFC320N and GFC525N, and so is nearly everything that matters: 1/3 HP against 1/2 HP, over 2,300 RPM against over 2,600, no cord against a cord, and no septic claim against the only one on the page.
GE says who it is for. The title recommends it for “1-2 Person Homes”, and the food list is softer than its sibling’s: “cooked pasta, fruit peels, rice and cereal”. It is the only listing to give a chamber size, “25-Ounce Grind Chamber Capacity”. For a flat or a small household that scrapes plates rather than processes vegetables, a 1/3 HP motor with clear guidance like that is a sensible fit rather than a compromise.
It does not come with a cord. “Non-Corded” in the title and “1/3 HP Non-Corded” in the size field. That suits a sink where the old disposal was hardwired, because it can be wired the same way. Where there is an outlet, you need a cord kit on top. Hardwiring is electrical work, and depending on your local code it may need a licensed electrician; at minimum it means the circuit is switched off at the breaker first.
The mount is the gap. The listing says “This DIY, easy installation food disposal only requires a few steps and has everything you need included in the box”, but unlike the GFC525N it never names the EZ Mount, a 3-bolt mount or any other system. Given the shared housing it may well use the same mount as its sibling, but that is our inference, not the listing’s claim. Ask before buying it as a straight swap.
What to weigh. The warranty field says “7-Year Replacement”, matching the GFC525N. There is no stated grind material, sound claim or septic claim. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #54,662 overall and #26 in Garbage Disposals, the lowest rank on the page.
Pros
- Clear 1-2 person household guidance
- Only stated chamber size: 25 oz
- Compact listed housing, 8.0 lb
- Suits a hardwired circuit
- Install kit in the box
- 7-year replacement warranty
Cons
- No power cord
- Mount type not named
- Grind material not stated
- No sound or septic claim
- Lowest rank on the page
- Softer food list than its sibling
Best for: A one- or two-person kitchen with a hardwired disposal circuit.
5. Moen Chef Series EXL100C 1 HP Lighted Garbage Disposal — Best for InSinkErator Swaps

A 1 HP disposal from outside the InSinkErator family that says it fits InSinkErator assemblies.
Key Specifications
| Model | EXL100C |
|---|---|
| Motor | 1 HP, 2,800 RPM VORTEX |
| Feed type | Continuous feed |
| Grind stages | Not stated |
| Grind components | Not stated |
| Sound | SoundSHIELD sound-deadening insulation; no figure |
| Power cord | Pre-installed |
| Mount | Fits most existing assemblies, including InSinkErator |
| Septic-safe claim | Not stated |
| Warranty | 10-year limited, in-home service |
| Best Sellers Rank | #6,029 overall; #7 in Garbage Disposals |
| Best For | Replacing an InSinkErator with a 1 HP corded unit without changing the flange |
Why We Recommend It
This listing makes the cross-fit claim the angle of this guide turns on. “EASY INSTALLATION: Fits most existing assemblies, including InSinkErator brand; includes pre-installed power cord.” The InSinkErator family is the largest mount group on the page, and the best seller on it, the Badger 5, sits on that hardware. Of the seven listings not made by InSinkErator, this is the only one that says it will go onto an InSinkErator assembly. For a large share of replacement buyers, that sentence is worth more than its horsepower.
The motor matches the L-8000’s figures. “2,800 RPM, 1 horsepower VORTEX motor provides fast, powerful grinding of the toughest food scraps and helps reduce jamming.” The listed size is 16.0 inches tall and 8.375 inches across, and the listed weight 16.8 pounds. That joint-tallest height is the trade for 1 HP. Before you buy, measure from the underside of the sink to the drain outlet or cabinet floor; a disposal that is too tall for the trap position means re-plumbing, not just a swap.
It is the most thoroughly equipped listing for living with under the sink. “Designed with SoundSHIELD sound-deadening insulation”. “Integrated motion-activated lighting makes the under-cabinet space easier to use”, which no other disposal here offers. And “Exclusive 360° Clean Rinse eliminates odors by rinsing away food scraps more effectively”. No figure is given for the insulation, so we cannot rank it against the others for noise, only note that it names a specific feature for it.
The warranty is ten years with in-home service. “10-year limited warranty with in-home service guarantees help is there when you need it.” The spec field agrees, “10 year limited warranty”, which is more consistency than several listings manage. It is half the L-8000’s bullet figure and two years short of the Frigidaire’s spec-field term, and longer than everything else.
What the listing leaves out. It does not say what the grind components are made of, gives no grind-stage count and no septic claim. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #6,029 overall and #7 in Garbage Disposals, the best rank of the three units at 1 HP or more. Pick it if you have an InSinkErator ring and want more motor than a Badger without changing the flange.
Pros
- Says it fits InSinkErator assemblies
- 1 HP, 2,800 RPM motor stated
- Pre-installed power cord
- SoundSHIELD insulation named
- Motion-activated under-cabinet light
- 10-year in-home warranty, consistent across fields
Cons
- 16.0 in tall, the joint tallest here
- Grind material not stated
- Grind stages not stated
- No septic claim
- No decibel figure
- 16.8 lb to hold up while mounting
Best for: An InSinkErator owner who wants a corded 1 HP replacement and has the height for it.
6. InSinkErator Badger 5 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal with Power Cord — Top Seller

The best seller on the page and the shortest unit, built for InSinkErator hardware and nothing else.
Key Specifications
| Model | 79883A-ISE |
|---|---|
| Motor | 1/2 HP Dura-Drive induction |
| Feed type | Continuous feed |
| Grind stages | Not stated |
| Grind components | Galvanized steel |
| Sound | Not stated |
| Power cord | Included (title) |
| Mount | Fits existing InSinkErator hardware |
| Septic-safe claim | Not stated |
| Warranty | 3-year in-home service |
| Best Sellers Rank | #335 overall; #1 in Garbage Disposals |
| Best For | Replacing an existing InSinkErator like for like |
Why We Recommend It
This is the disposal more shoppers were buying than any other on the page. It ranks #335 overall and #1 in Garbage Disposals, the only overall rank here better than #1,000. The reason is in the first bullet: “a compact, space-saving design that fits existing InSinkErator hardware for a quick and easy install”. If the brand claim in its third bullet is right, that “There are more American-built InSinkErator garbage disposals in US homes than all other brands combined”, then a like-for-like Badger is the default swap for a lot of kitchens.
It is the most modest spec on the page, and the listing does not pretend otherwise. “Badger Series disposers are a reliable and functional choice when affordability is the prime concern.” The motor is a “1/2 hp Dura-Drive Induction Motor” with no stated speed, and the grind parts are “long lasting galvanized steel components”. Galvanised steel is zinc-coated rather than stainless; the four listings that state stainless grind parts are making a different material claim. The listing gives no grind stages and no noise claim.
The size is its practical advantage. The listed height is 11.5 inches, the shortest on the page, against 16.0 inches for the two 1 HP units. The listed weight is 5.0 pounds, also the lightest here, and light for a 1/2 HP unit; treat it as the listing’s figure rather than a confirmed unit weight. The power cord is named in the title, “with Power Cord”, though no bullet repeats it.
The warranty is three years, in-home. The spec field reads “3-Year We Come to You In-Home Service Warranty”. That is the second-shortest term on the page, ahead only of the Waste King L-111’s two years. The step to the Badger 5XP adds a year and a bigger motor on the same hardware.
What to weigh. It was sold by General Supply House rather than Amazon.com, and stock was flagged as scarce at capture, so check the seller before you order. Buy it to put a new InSinkErator onto an old InSinkErator ring with the least fuss; look elsewhere if you want stainless parts, insulation or a long warranty.
Pros
- #1 in Garbage Disposals
- Fits existing InSinkErator hardware
- 11.5 in tall, the shortest here
- Power cord named in the title
- 3-year in-home service warranty
- Continuous feed
Cons
- Galvanized, not stainless, grind parts
- No noise claim
- Motor speed not stated
- Third-party seller, scarce stock at capture
- Fits InSinkErator hardware only
- 5.0 lb listed weight is light for its class
Best for: An InSinkErator owner who wants the simplest like-for-like replacement under a tight sink.
7. InSinkErator Badger 5XP 3/4 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal — Best Badger Step Up

The same Badger hardware and copy as the Badger 5, with a 3/4 HP motor and a year more cover.
Key Specifications
| Model | 79326-ISE (part number); 1450226 (model field) |
|---|---|
| Motor | 3/4 HP Dura-Drive induction |
| Feed type | Continuous feed |
| Grind stages | Not stated |
| Grind components | Galvanized steel |
| Sound | Not stated |
| Power cord | Not stated |
| Mount | Fits existing InSinkErator hardware |
| Septic-safe claim | Not stated |
| Warranty | 4-year in-home, parts and labor |
| Best Sellers Rank | #2,838 overall; #4 in Garbage Disposals |
| Best For | An InSinkErator swap that wants more motor than the Badger 5 |
Why We Recommend It
The 5XP reads like the Badger 5 with one number changed. All five bullets are the same text as the Badger 5’s, except that “1/2 hp” becomes “3/4 hp Dura-Drive Induction Motor”. Same “fits existing InSinkErator hardware” claim, same “long lasting galvanized steel components”, same affordability framing. So it belongs in the same mount group, and it is the obvious step if you are replacing an InSinkErator and want a bigger motor without changing anything else.
Two fields describe it in different terms. The part number is 79326-ISE and the model field says 1450226. We report both; quote the part number when you check compatibility or warranty with the seller. The dimension fields also look out of order: height 6.31 inches, length 6.31 inches and width 12.63 inches. A disposal is taller than it is wide, so the 12.63 figure is most likely the height, by our reading. The listed weight is 16.0 pounds, against 5.0 for the Badger 5.
The power cord is not mentioned. The Badger 5’s title says “with Power Cord”; the 5XP’s title and bullets say nothing about a cord either way. If your old unit plugs in, ask the seller whether a cord is in the box before ordering; if it was hardwired, the question matters less, but the circuit still has to be off at the breaker before the old unit comes down.
The warranty steps up by a year. “4-Year We Come To You In-Home Full Service Limited Warranty Covers parts and labor.” Four years in-home, parts and labour, against three on the Badger 5. That is shorter than the GE pair’s seven, the Moen’s ten or the L-8000’s twenty, but it is one of the few listings to say outright that labour is covered.
What to weigh. It was sold by 67 Hardware, not Amazon.com, with stock flagged as scarce at capture. It ranks #2,838 overall and #4 in Garbage Disposals. 3/4 HP is not automatically better than 1/2 HP; it is more motor for a busier sink, in a heavier unit. If your Badger 5 has kept up, a like-for-like replacement is reasonable.
Pros
- Fits existing InSinkErator hardware
- 3/4 HP Dura-Drive induction motor
- 4-year in-home warranty, parts and labour
- Continuous feed
- Rank #4 in Garbage Disposals
- Same copy as the best seller, more motor
Cons
- Power cord not stated
- Galvanized grind parts
- Part number and model field differ
- Dimension fields look out of order
- Third-party seller, scarce stock at capture
- No noise claim
Best for: An InSinkErator owner on a busier sink who wants the next Badger up.
8. InSinkErator Evolution 0.75HP 3/4 HP EZ Connect Garbage Disposal — Most Grind Detail

The only listing that counts its grind stages, with stainless parts, named insulation and no cord.
Key Specifications
| Model | EVOLUTION 0.75HP; part number 80021-ISE |
|---|---|
| Motor | 3/4 HP Dura-Drive induction |
| Feed type | Continuous feed |
| Grind stages | 3-Stage MultiGrind |
| Grind components | Stainless steel |
| Sound | Quiet SoundSeal; removable Quiet Collar sink baffle |
| Power cord | Sold separately; EZ Connect Hardwire Adapter included |
| Mount | InSinkErator flange included; Lift and Latch |
| Septic-safe claim | Not stated |
| Warranty | Not stated (field reads “Warranty”) |
| Best Sellers Rank | #2,985 overall; #5 in Garbage Disposals |
| Best For | A hardwired InSinkErator position where grind detail and insulation matter |
Why We Recommend It
Ask the ten listings how many grind stages they have and only this one answers. “Sink disposal with 3-Stage MultiGrind technology designed to prevent clogs by grinding tough food scraps the finest; 3/4 HP Dura-Drive induction motor and stainless steel grind components.” Three stages is a claim about how finely waste is broken down before it leaves the unit, which matters for drain lines. The other nine are silent on stages, which is not evidence that they have one; it is simply not stated.
It is the quietness claim with the most named parts. “Quiet SoundSeal technology for quieter operation than that of standard disposals” and a “removable Quiet Collar sink baffle”. Like every listing here, it gives no decibel figure, so “quieter than standard” is the listing’s comparison, not a measurement. It also mentions room for “an instant hot water dispenser” beside it, and it is the only listing to name a “EZ Removable Dishwasher Inlet Plug”, the knock-out you remove when a dishwasher drains through the disposal.
The power cord is not in the box. “EZ Connect Hardwire Adapter” is included and the “EZ Connect Power Cord sold separately”. So it suits a hardwired circuit out of the box, or needs the cord bought on top for an outlet. Hardwiring a disposal means isolating the circuit at the breaker and following local electrical code; if you are not sure, that is a job for an electrician.
The mount is InSinkErator’s own, with the flange included. The box contains “garbage disposal flange, gaskets, etc., for install, plus wrench and kitchen drain stopper”, and the listing names “Lift and Latch technology” and “EZ Grip Handles”. It does not use the Badgers’ phrase about fitting existing InSinkErator hardware, so we group it with the family by brand and leave the exact fit to the seller. Listed size: 12.25 by 8.25 inches, and 18.4 pounds, the heaviest on the page.
The warranty field is empty. It reads simply “Warranty”, and no bullet gives a term. Sold by Amazon.com, ranked #2,985 overall and #5 in Garbage Disposals.
Pros
- Only stated grind stages: 3-Stage MultiGrind
- Stainless steel grind components
- Quiet SoundSeal and Quiet Collar baffle named
- Flange, gaskets and wrench included
- Dishwasher inlet plug named
- Sold by Amazon.com, rank #5
Cons
- Power cord sold separately
- Warranty term not stated
- 18.4 lb, the heaviest here
- No decibel figure
- No septic claim
- Existing-hardware fit not stated in words
Best for: An InSinkErator kitchen with a hardwired circuit that wants the most grind and noise detail in writing.
9. Frigidaire FF13DISPC1 1.25 HP Corded Garbage Disposal — Most Horsepower

The most horsepower on the page, on a standard 3-bolt mount, with a feed type it never states.
Key Specifications
| Model | FF13DISPC1 |
|---|---|
| Motor | 1.25 HP; speed not stated |
| Feed type | Not stated |
| Grind stages | Not stated |
| Grind components | Not stated; Torque Master grinding system |
| Sound | Fully insulated sound shell; no figure |
| Power cord | Corded (title) |
| Mount | 3-bolt; uses existing 3-bolt flange or provided flange |
| Septic-safe claim | Not stated |
| Warranty | 12 Years (spec field only) |
| Best Sellers Rank | #18,093 overall; #15 in Garbage Disposals |
| Best For | A 3-bolt swap for a heavy-use kitchen with room under the sink |
Why We Recommend It
This is the biggest motor on the page, and the listing is careful about what it claims for it. 1.25 HP in the title and size field. The grinding bullet says the system “Quickly grinds coffee grounds, produce scraps, small bones and other food waste with minimized noise and vibrations”, and it is the only listing to name small bones. It does not state a speed, a motor type, a grind-stage count or what the grind components are made of. More horsepower is more capacity, not a better disposal for every sink; a two-person kitchen does not need what a 1.25 HP unit is built to do.
The mount answer is the clearest on the page. “Quickly install your disposer to the existing 3-bolt sink mount flange or use the provided 3-bolt mount flange. Compatible with all 3-bolt mounts.” If you have a 3-bolt mount, that is a direct swap. If you do not, the listing tells you the flange is in the box, which is more than most do. The Waste Maid is the only other listing on the page to name a 3-bolt mount.
It has the two features no other listing mentions. “Powerful Silver Guard magnetic ring captures most metal objects before they enter into the disposer chamber”, a defence against dropped cutlery. And “BIOSHIELD” for odour protection inside the unit. The grinding system is called “Torque Master”, the same name the Waste Maid uses for its stainless system; neither listing says whether that means shared parts.
Two answers are missing. The listing never says continuous or batch feed; it is the only one of the ten that does not. And the 12-year warranty appears only in the spec field, “12 Years”, with no bullet describing it. It is corded, by its title, and has a “fully insulated sound shell” with no decibel figure.
What to weigh. The listed size is 13.9 inches tall by 8.7 inches across, and the listed weight about 16.55 pounds. That is shorter than the two 1 HP units despite more horsepower. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #18,093 overall and #15 in Garbage Disposals. Confirm the feed type and the warranty terms before buying.
Pros
- 1.25 HP, the most on the page
- Fits any 3-bolt mount; flange included
- Silver Guard magnetic ring for cutlery
- Fully insulated sound shell
- Corded; names small bones and coffee grounds
- 13.9 in tall, shorter than the 1 HP units
Cons
- Feed type not stated
- Grind material not stated
- Warranty only in a spec field
- Motor speed not stated
- No septic claim
- No InSinkErator or EZ Mount fit claim
Best for: A busy kitchen on a 3-bolt mount that wants the largest motor here and can confirm the feed type.
10. Waste Maid 048 Builders Series 1/3 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal — Best 3-Bolt Compact

A 1/3 HP unit on a standard 3-bolt mount, with stainless grind parts and two different warranty terms.
Key Specifications
| Model | 10-US-WM-048-3B |
|---|---|
| Motor | 1/3 HP, 2,400 RPM permanent magnet |
| Feed type | Continuous feed |
| Grind stages | Not stated |
| Grind components | Stainless steel Torque Master grinding system |
| Sound | Balanced impellers for “quieter operation”; no insulation stated |
| Power cord | Not stated |
| Mount | Standard 3-bolt |
| Septic-safe claim | Not stated |
| Warranty | 5-year (bullet); 4-year (spec field); lifetime against corrosion |
| Best Sellers Rank | #1,484 overall; #3 in Garbage Disposals |
| Best For | A light-use sink on a 3-bolt mount |
Why We Recommend It
The Waste Maid is the second most popular disposal here and the best-selling route to a stainless grind system on a 3-bolt mount. It ranks #1,484 overall and #3 in Garbage Disposals, behind only the Badger 5 among these ten. The motor is small, “a 1/3 horsepower 2400 RPM permanent magnet motor”, and the grind parts are named: “Anti-jam Torque Master stainless steel grinding system”. Among the four 1/3 HP units, it is the only one to say what its grind parts are made of.
The mount is the standard 3-bolt. “A standard 3-bolt mounting system makes for fast installation and direct replacement for most garbage disposal brands using 3-bolt mounting systems.” That puts it with the Frigidaire as the only two listings that suit a 3-bolt owner directly. Note the wording: it replaces brands that use 3-bolt systems, not every brand.
The warranty depends on which field you read. The bullet says “a 5-year warranty on the Waste Maid 048 garbage disposal and a lifetime warranty against corrosion failure”. The warranty field says “a 4-year warranty on the Waste Maid 048” with the same lifetime corrosion cover. We report both and suggest you plan on the shorter until the seller confirms. A lifetime corrosion term is unusual on the page; no other listing offers a separate corrosion warranty.
The noise claim is mechanical, not insulation. “A durable turntable with balanced impellers for less vibration, quieter operation, and longer life.” No sound shell or insulating jacket is named and no figure is given. It also states continuous feed plainly and adds “It is recommended to run water while the disposal is in operation”, which is good practice for any disposal.
What to weigh. The listing does not say whether a power cord is included, so check before ordering if you have an outlet. Listed size: 12.8 inches tall by 5.2 across, 8.6 pounds. It is sold by Amazon.com. The “Builders” name and the 1/3 HP rating point to a light-duty sink; for heavier use on a 3-bolt mount, the Frigidaire is the other option here.
Pros
- Standard 3-bolt mount stated
- Stainless steel grinding system stated
- Lifetime warranty against corrosion
- 2,400 RPM permanent magnet motor
- Rank #3 in Garbage Disposals
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Warranty fields disagree: 5 vs 4 years
- Power cord not stated
- 1/3 HP, light-duty
- No sound insulation named
- No septic claim
- Grind stages not stated
Best for: A small household on a 3-bolt mount that wants stainless grind parts in a compact unit.
Three Mounts, and Who Says They Fit Which
The mount is the part of a disposal that stays behind when the old unit comes down: the flange in the sink’s drain hole and the ring or bolts underneath it. Match it and a replacement is a matter of hanging the new unit, connecting the drain and the power, and switching it on. Miss it and the job grows to removing the old flange, cleaning the sink opening and setting a new one with plumber’s putty or a gasket. Here is what each listing says, in its own words.
| Disposal | Mount as stated | Cross-fit claim | Flange or kit in the box |
|---|---|---|---|
| Badger 5 | InSinkErator hardware | “Fits existing InSinkErator hardware” | Not stated |
| Badger 5XP | InSinkErator hardware | “Fits existing InSinkErator hardware” | Not stated |
| Evolution 0.75HP | InSinkErator, Lift and Latch | None in words | Flange, gaskets, wrench |
| Moen EXL100C | Not named | “Fits most existing assemblies, including InSinkErator brand” | Not stated |
| Moen L-8000 Waste King | EZ Mount | None | EZ Mount included |
| Waste King L-111 | EZ Mount | None | EZ Mount |
| GE GFC525N | EZ Mount System | “Fits most kitchen setups” | Complete easy install kit |
| Frigidaire FF13DISPC1 | 3-bolt | “Compatible with all 3-bolt mounts” | 3-bolt flange provided |
| Waste Maid 048 | 3-bolt | Most brands using 3-bolt systems | Not stated |
| GE GFC320N | Not stated | None | “Everything you need” |
Count by family and no group reaches five. The InSinkErator family has four, counting the Moen by its claim and the Evolution by brand. EZ Mount has three. 3-bolt has two. The GE GFC320N has none named. So whatever is under your sink, at most four of these listings say they go straight onto it, and if your mount is EZ or 3-bolt the number is three or two.
The best sellers follow the biggest family. Three of the five best ranks in Garbage Disposals belong to InSinkErator units, #1, #4 and #5. The Waste Maid at #3 and the Waste King L-111 at #6 complete the top six. Shoppers replacing an InSinkErator seem, on this evidence, to be buying another one.
A name is not a standard. Waste King and GE both say EZ Mount. Neither listing says the two are the same hardware, and we do not assume it. The Frigidaire says it fits all 3-bolt mounts; the Waste Maid says most brands that use them. If your old unit’s brand is not on the box you are buying, look up its mount, or take the flange as part of the job.
Flange swaps are where a disposal job meets the sink. Removing a flange that has been puttied into an undermount or fireclay bowl for years needs patience; our undermount kitchen sink roundup and farmhouse sink guide cover those bowls. On a workstation sink, check the drain position against the ledge and accessories, as our workstation kitchen sink roundup explains. On a double bowl, decide which side takes the disposal before you plan the drain run; our double kitchen sink guide covers the layouts. The safety rule does not change with the sink: switch the disposal off at the breaker, or unplug it, before you touch the flange, the chamber or the wiring.

Horsepower as Stated, and What Comes With It
Horsepower is the number every disposal leads with, and on its own it tells you less than it seems. A bigger motor handles more volume and tougher scraps; it also brings a taller, heavier unit, and none of these listings says a bigger motor is quieter or kinder to a drain. Here is every motor figure the ten state, beside the size and household guidance that come with it.
| Disposal | HP | RPM as stated | Motor type | Listed height | Household or food guidance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frigidaire FF13DISPC1 | 1.25 | Not stated | Not stated | 13.9 in | Coffee grounds, produce, small bones |
| Moen EXL100C | 1 | 2,800 | VORTEX | 16.0 in | “Toughest food scraps” |
| Moen L-8000 Waste King | 1 | 2,800 | Permanent magnet | 16.0 in | Not stated |
| Badger 5XP | 3/4 | Not stated | Induction | Fields unclear | “Everyday food scraps” |
| Evolution 0.75HP | 3/4 | Not stated | Induction | 12.25 in | “Tough food scraps” |
| Badger 5 | 1/2 | Not stated | Induction | 11.5 in | “Everyday food scraps” |
| GE GFC525N | 1/2 | Over 2,600 | Not stated | 12.69 in | 2-4 person homes; cooked meat, beans, seeds |
| Waste Maid 048 | 1/3 | 2,400 | Permanent magnet | 12.8 in | Not stated |
| GE GFC320N | 1/3 | Over 2,300 | Not stated | 12.6875 in | 1-2 person homes; pasta, peels, rice |
| Waste King L-111 | 1/3 | 1,900 | Permanent magnet | 12.75 in | Not stated |
The 1 HP units are the tall ones. Both are listed at 16.0 inches, at least 2.1 inches taller than anything else here by our arithmetic, and the Frigidaire puts 1.25 HP into 13.9 inches. That height has to fit between the underside of the sink and the cabinet floor with the drain outlet lined up with your trap. A unit that sits lower than the wall drain cannot drain into it without re-plumbing.
GE is the only brand that ties horsepower to a household. Its two listings say 1/3 HP for one or two people and 1/2 HP for two to four. That is the right way to read the column: more horsepower for more people and tougher scraps, not more horsepower because the number is bigger. A one-person flat with a 1 HP unit is carrying a taller, heavier disposal for no stated gain.
RPM figures do not line up with horsepower neatly. The 1/3 HP Waste Maid states 2,400 RPM and the 1/3 HP Waste King L-111 1,900. The two 1 HP units both state 2,800. The InSinkErators and the Frigidaire state no speed at all. Speed is one input to how a disposal grinds; the grind parts and stages are others, and only one listing counts its stages.
The secondary searches land in different places. If you came looking for the best 1 HP garbage disposal, there are two exact matches here, the Moen EXL100C and the Moen L-8000 Waste King, plus the 1.25 HP Frigidaire above them. If you came looking for the best continuous feed garbage disposal, nine of these ten say continuous feed, and none is batch feed. And every unit here is an in-sink disposer that hangs from the drain; the only question of fit is the mount.
Two Pairs That Look Like the Same Disposal
Twice on this page, two listings are close enough to be mistaken for one product. They are not, and the differences are in exactly the fields this guide tracks.
| Field | GE GFC525N | GE GFC320N | Moen EXL100C | Moen L-8000 Waste King |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Model | GFC525N | GFC320N | EXL100C | L-8000 |
| Brand field | GE | GE | Moen | Waste King |
| HP and RPM | 1/2 HP, over 2,600 | 1/3 HP, over 2,300 | 1 HP, 2,800 | 1 HP, 2,800 |
| Listed size | 12.69 x 5.19 x 5.5 in | 12.6875 x 5.1875 x 5.5 in | 16.0 x 8.375 in | 16.0 x 7.5 in |
| Listed weight | 8.0 lb | 8.0 lb | 16.8 lb | 14.75 lb |
| Power cord | Included | Non-corded | Pre-installed | Pre-installed |
| Mount | EZ Mount System | Not stated | Fits InSinkErator | EZ Mount |
| Grind parts | Stainless blades | Not stated | Not stated | All stainless |
| Sound | Sound reduction claimed | Not stated | SoundSHIELD | Sound-insulated motor |
| Septic claim | Yes | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
| Warranty | 7-year limited | 7-Year Replacement | 10-year in-home | 20-year in-home (bullet) |
| Garbage Disposals rank | #14 | #26 | #7 | #11 |
The GE pair shares a body, not a spec. The listed dimensions are the same to the rounding, and both weigh 8.0 pounds on paper. The model numbers differ, and so do the motor, the speed, the cord, the mount wording and the septic claim. The GFC525N is the one with the cord and the septic claim; if you order by the picture, check the model number on the listing.
The Moen pair shares a motor figure and a brand name, not a mount. The L-8000’s title begins “Moen L-8000 Waste King”, but its brand and manufacturer fields say Waste King, and its bullets describe Waste King’s EZ Mount and warranty. The EXL100C is a Moen Chef Series unit that claims InSinkErator fit. Both state 1 HP and 2,800 RPM and both are 16.0 inches tall. Beyond that they diverge: different model numbers, widths and weights; a light and a rinse feature on one; stainless grind parts stated on the other; and warranties of ten and twenty years. Choose between them by your mount.
Two smaller echoes. The Badger 5 and Badger 5XP share every bullet except the horsepower; they are different models in one series. And the Waste Maid and the Frigidaire both call their grinding system “Torque Master”, though neither listing connects the two.
Grind Parts, Noise, Septic and Warranty: The Silences
Beyond mount and motor, a disposal buyer usually wants to know four things: what the grinding parts are made of, how loud it is, whether it is safe for a septic tank, and how long it is covered. The ten answer unevenly.
| Disposal | Grind parts | Grind stages | Noise claim | Septic | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moen L-8000 Waste King | All stainless | Not stated | Sound-insulated motor | Not stated | 20-year (bullet); “Limited” (spec) |
| Frigidaire FF13DISPC1 | Not stated | Not stated | Insulated sound shell | Not stated | 12 Years (spec only) |
| Moen EXL100C | Not stated | Not stated | SoundSHIELD | Not stated | 10-year in-home |
| GE GFC525N | Stainless blades | Not stated | Sound reduction | Yes | 7-year |
| GE GFC320N | Not stated | Not stated | None | Not stated | 7-year replacement |
| Waste Maid 048 | Stainless | Not stated | Balanced impellers | Not stated | 5 or 4 years; lifetime corrosion |
| Badger 5XP | Galvanized | Not stated | None | Not stated | 4-year in-home |
| Badger 5 | Galvanized | Not stated | None | Not stated | 3-year in-home |
| Waste King L-111 | Not stated | Not stated | None | Not stated | 2-year in-home |
| Evolution 0.75HP | Stainless | 3 | SoundSeal, Quiet Collar | Not stated | Not stated |
Stainless against galvanised is four to two, with four silent. The L-8000, the Evolution, the Waste Maid and the GE GFC525N name stainless. The two Badgers name galvanised steel. The Moen EXL100C, the Frigidaire, the L-111 and the GFC320N do not say. Stainless resists corrosion; galvanised steel relies on a zinc coating. The Waste Maid’s lifetime corrosion warranty is the only term on the page written specifically against rust.
No listing prints a decibel figure. Six make a quietness claim of some kind, from named insulation to balanced impellers. Four make none. Without a measured number, you can compare what each listing says it has done about noise, but not which is quieter.
One septic claim, one stage count. The GE GFC525N alone says septic safe; the Evolution alone counts grind stages. Each of those is a single listing making a claim the other nine leave blank.
Warranties do not follow horsepower neatly, but they lean that way. The 1/3 HP L-111 has two years and the 1/3 HP GE GFC320N seven. The two 1 HP units carry ten and twenty, and the 1.25 HP Frigidaire twelve in a spec field. Read in-home against replacement: the Waste King, Moen and InSinkErator terms say in-home; the GE spec fields say replacement.

Best Alternatives
A disposal is not the only way to deal with food scraps at the sink. If none of these ten fits your mount, your power supply or your drain, these are the alternatives worth weighing.
| Alternative | Why Consider It | Better For | Main Trade-Off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Batch feed disposal | Runs only with its stopper in place, so nothing can drop in while it grinds | Homes with young children; no wall switch | None of these ten is batch feed; slower, one load at a time |
| Sink strainer basket and a caddy | No motor, no wiring, no change to the drain | Septic systems, renters, small sinks | Scraps go to the bin; strainer needs emptying |
| Countertop compost bin | Turns scraps into garden material instead of drain load | Gardeners, septic homes | Counter space and regular emptying |
| Same-brand like-for-like swap | Keeps your flange and mount; the simplest replacement | Anyone whose old unit simply failed | Limits you to that brand’s current line-up |
What the Step Up Buys
Without prices, the useful way to read the ten is as a set of specification tiers. Each step adds something in writing, and costs something in size or weight.
1/3 HP compact units: the Waste King L-111, the Waste Maid and the GE GFC320N. Listed between 12.6875 and 12.8 inches tall and between 7.5 and 8.6 pounds. They suit one- or two-person kitchens and tight cabinets. Within the tier, the Waste Maid adds stainless grind parts and a lifetime corrosion term, the L-111 adds a pre-installed cord, and the GFC320N adds a stated chamber size and seven years of replacement cover.
1/2 HP: the Badger 5 and the GE GFC525N. The Badger is the shortest unit on the page at 11.5 inches and fits InSinkErator hardware; the GE adds stainless blades, a septic claim and a seven-year term on an EZ Mount. GE places this tier at two to four people.
3/4 HP: the Badger 5XP and the Evolution. The 5XP keeps the Badger’s galvanised parts and adds a year of in-home cover. The Evolution is where the listing detail jumps: three grind stages, stainless parts, named insulation, a dishwasher inlet plug and a flange in the box, in the heaviest unit here at 18.4 pounds, without a cord.
1 HP and up: the two Moen-badged units and the Frigidaire. Insulation is named on all three, warranties run ten, twenty and twelve years, and the heights are 16.0, 16.0 and 13.9 inches. This tier buys motor and cover; it needs space, and a kitchen that produces enough waste to use it.
Under the sink, the disposal shares space with everything else. If you are also fitting a filter, measure the cabinet for both; our under sink water filter guide sets out how much room those systems take. If you are changing the tap at the same time, our pull-down kitchen faucet roundup covers the other half of the sink.
What to Check Before You Buy
Identify the Mount Already Under Your Sink
Look at the ring where the disposal meets the sink, or read the label on the old unit. InSinkErator, EZ Mount and 3-bolt are the three systems named on this page. Match it and you have at most four candidates here; miss it and plan to change the flange. The Evolution and the Frigidaire both list a flange in the box.
Decide Between a Cord and a Hardwired Connection
Six listings come with a cord or say they are corded. The Evolution sells its cord separately and the GE GFC320N is non-corded; the Waste Maid and Badger 5XP do not say. A plug-in unit needs a switched outlet under the sink. A hardwired unit connects to a junction box, and that is electrical work that may need an electrician under your local code. Either way, switch off at the breaker first.
Measure the Height Against Your Drain
Listed heights run from 11.5 inches on the Badger 5 to 16.0 inches on the two 1 HP units. Measure from the underside of the sink to the wall drain and the cabinet floor. A taller unit can put the disposal outlet below the trap, which will not drain without re-plumbing.
Size the Motor to the Household
Stated horsepower runs from 1/3 to 1.25. GE’s guidance, 1/3 HP for one or two people and 1/2 HP for two to four, is a sensible starting point. More motor suits more people and tougher scraps; it does not make a disposal better by default.
Check for a Septic Claim if You Need One
Only the GE GFC525N says septic safe. If your home drains to a septic tank, treat any other unit’s silence as an open question, and ask whoever services your tank whether a disposal suits it at all.
Read Both Warranty Fields
Three listings disagree with themselves or give only one field: the L-8000 (20 years against “Limited”), the Waste Maid (five years against four) and the Frigidaire (12 years in a spec field only). The Evolution gives no term. In-home service and replacement are different promises.
Plan for Safe Use and Jams
Never put a hand into a disposal. Before clearing a jam, switch the unit off at the breaker or unplug it. Use tongs or the hex wrench some units supply in the box; the Evolution includes a wrench and the GE GFC525N says none is needed. Run cold water while it grinds, as the Waste Maid’s listing advises, and keep cutlery out; the Frigidaire’s magnetic ring is the only listed guard against it.

Common Mistakes
- Buying by horsepower before checking the mount. Whatever mount you own, at most four of these ten say they fit it straight on.
- Assuming EZ Mount means one standard. Waste King and GE both use the name; neither listing says the hardware is shared.
- Ordering the GE by its picture. The GFC525N and GFC320N share a listed 8.0 lb housing; only the GFC525N has a cord and a septic claim.
- Forgetting the cord. The Evolution sells its cord separately and the GFC320N is non-corded; plug-in buyers need one on top.
- Ignoring height. The 1 HP units are listed at 16.0 inches, 4.5 inches taller than the Badger 5 by our arithmetic.
- Reading a quietness claim as a measurement. Six listings claim reduced noise; none prints a decibel figure.
- Trusting one warranty field. The Waste Maid says 5 years in a bullet and 4 in its warranty field.
- Reaching into the chamber while it has power. Switch off at the breaker or unplug before clearing any jam, and use tongs, never a hand.
Who Should Buy Which

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best garbage disposal?
It depends first on the mount already under your sink, because that decides which units are straight swaps. Of these ten, the Moen L-8000 Waste King has the most complete listing: a 1 HP motor at 2,800 RPM, all stainless steel grind components, a pre-installed power cord, an EZ Mount and a 20-year limited in-home warranty stated in its bullets, though its spec field says only Limited. If you have an InSinkErator ring, the Moen Chef Series EXL100C is the only non-InSinkErator listing here that says it fits InSinkErator assemblies, with 1 HP, a cord and a ten-year in-home term. If you are on a septic tank or have a household of two to four, the GE GFC525N is the only listing that claims septic safety. Check the height under your sink before choosing a 1 HP unit, because both are listed at 16.0 inches tall.
What is the best in-sink garbage disposal?
Every disposal on this page is an in-sink unit: it hangs from the drain opening of the sink and grinds scraps before they enter the drain. So the useful question is which fits your sink. For an InSinkErator mount, the Badger 5 is the best seller on the page, ranked #1 in Garbage Disposals, and the Moen EXL100C is the 1 HP option that claims InSinkErator fit. For an EZ Mount, the Moen L-8000 Waste King, the Waste King L-111 and the GE GFC525N name that system. For a 3-bolt mount, the Frigidaire FF13DISPC1 and the Waste Maid 048 do. Measure the space under the bowl too: listed heights run from 11.5 inches on the Badger 5 to 16.0 inches on the two 1 HP units, and the outlet has to line up with your wall drain.
What is the best 1 HP garbage disposal?
Two listings here state exactly 1 HP: the Moen L-8000 Waste King and the Moen Chef Series EXL100C. Both state 2,800 RPM, both have a pre-installed power cord, and both are listed at 16.0 inches tall. Choose between them by your mount. The L-8000 uses an EZ Mount, states all stainless steel grind components and gives a 20-year limited in-home warranty in its bullets. The EXL100C says it fits most existing assemblies including InSinkErator, adds SoundSHIELD insulation, a motion-activated light and a rinse feature, and gives ten years in-home, but does not say what its grind parts are made of. If you want more than 1 HP, the Frigidaire FF13DISPC1 states 1.25 HP on a 3-bolt mount and is listed at 13.9 inches tall, but it does not state its feed type. A 1 HP motor suits a busy kitchen; a small household may not need one.
What is the best continuous feed garbage disposal?
Nine of these ten listings say continuous feed, which means you switch the disposal on and feed scraps in while it runs. The Frigidaire is the only one that does not state its feed type, and none of the ten is batch feed. Among the continuous feed units, the Moen L-8000 Waste King has the most complete listing: 1 HP, stainless grind parts, a cord, an EZ Mount and a 20-year in-home warranty in its bullets. The GE GFC525N is the continuous feed unit with the only septic claim. The InSinkErator Evolution is the continuous feed unit with the only stated grind stages, three. Continuous feed units run from a wall switch, so keep hands and cutlery out of the opening while one is running, run cold water through it, and switch it off at the breaker before clearing any jam.
Is a more powerful garbage disposal always better?
No. More horsepower gives a disposal more capacity for volume and tougher scraps, but it usually comes in a bigger, heavier unit. On this page the two 1 HP units are listed at 16.0 inches tall, while the 1/2 HP Badger 5 is 11.5 inches. A taller unit can sit below your wall drain and need re-plumbing, and it takes cabinet space you may want for a filter or cleaning supplies. GE sizes its two disposals by household instead: 1/3 HP for one or two people, 1/2 HP for two to four. That is a sensible way to choose. None of the ten listings says a bigger motor is quieter, kinder to drains or better for septic systems, and none prints a noise figure. Match the motor to how much food waste your kitchen actually produces, then check that the unit fits your mount and your space.
Will a new garbage disposal fit my existing mount?
Only if the listing names your mount or claims to fit it. These ten name three systems. The InSinkErator Badger 5 and Badger 5XP say they fit existing InSinkErator hardware, and the Moen EXL100C says it fits most existing assemblies including InSinkErator. The Moen L-8000 Waste King, the Waste King L-111 and the GE GFC525N name an EZ Mount, although neither brand says whether its EZ Mount is the same hardware as the other’s. The Frigidaire says it fits all 3-bolt mounts and the Waste Maid says it replaces most brands using 3-bolt systems. The Evolution includes its own flange, and the GE GFC320N names no mount. If your mount does not match, you can usually install the new flange that comes with the unit, but that means removing the old one from the sink. Switch the old disposal off at the breaker first.
Is a garbage disposal safe for a septic system?
Among these ten, only the GE GFC525N says so: its listing calls it a septic safe continuous feed garbage disposer. The other nine do not mention septic systems at all, which is not the same as saying they are unsuitable; it means the listing makes no claim. A disposal sends food solids into the tank, which can mean more frequent pumping, so the general advice is to ask whoever services your septic system before adding one. If you go ahead, a finer grind and plenty of running water both help, and smaller loads at a time are kinder to the tank than large ones. If a disposal is not right for your tank, a sink strainer and a compost bin deal with scraps without adding to it. Always follow local codes, which in some areas restrict disposals on septic systems.
Do I need an electrician to install a garbage disposal?
It depends on the power supply under your sink and on local code. Six of these ten come with a cord or say they are corded, so if there is already a suitable switched outlet under the sink, the electrical side is plugging it in. The InSinkErator Evolution sells its cord separately and includes a hardwire adapter, and the GE GFC320N is non-corded, so both suit a hardwired connection to a junction box. Hardwiring is electrical work; many homeowners hire an electrician for it, and some local codes require one. Adding a new outlet where there was none is also electrical work. Whatever the setup, switch the circuit off at the breaker before disconnecting the old unit, and check that it is dead before touching any wiring. If you are unsure about any part of the job, a licensed electrician or plumber is the safe choice.
Final Verdict
1 HP, all stainless grind parts, a cord, EZ Mount and a 20-year in-home warranty in its bullets.
The only non-InSinkErator unit claiming InSinkErator fit, with 1 HP, insulation, a cord and ten years in-home.
The only septic-safe claim here, 1/2 HP, stainless blades, a cord and a seven-year warranty.
Ten garbage disposals, three mount systems, and no family with more than four members. The InSinkErator family has four, counting the Moen that claims to fit it. EZ Mount has three. 3-bolt has two. One names none. Whatever is under your sink, the straight swaps on this page number four at most, and that is the first filter, before horsepower.
Horsepower comes second and is not a ladder. The stated figures run from 1/3 to 1.25 HP, and the bigger motors come in taller, heavier bodies: 16.0 inches for the two 1 HP units against 11.5 for the Badger 5. GE sizes its pair by household, which is the right way to read the number.
The rest of the checklist is mostly silence. One listing counts grind stages. One makes a septic claim. Four name stainless grind parts and two galvanised. None gives a decibel figure. Two lookalike pairs, the GE GFC525N and GFC320N and the two Moen-badged 1 HP units, differ in exactly the fields that matter.
If you buy one disposal from this page and you have an EZ Mount, make it the Moen L-8000 Waste King: 1 HP, all stainless grind parts, a cord and a 20-year in-home warranty in its bullets. If your ring is InSinkErator, the Moen EXL100C is the one that says it fits. If you are on septic, the GE GFC525N is the only listing that says it is safe. Whichever you choose, switch the circuit off at the breaker before you start, and follow your local code.
