Best Range Hood Light Replacement: Bulbs and Picks

Broan-NuTone range hood with replaceable bulb beside a SINDA insert range hood

Affiliate Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. This does not affect the price you pay.

If your range hood light has failed, the first thing to establish is whether it can be replaced at all — because on a large share of modern hoods, it cannot.

Older and simpler hoods use a standard bulb socket. Broan’s 413001 takes an ordinary A19 bulb rated to 75 watts; COMFEE’ ships an E26 lamp holder, the same screw fitting as most household lamps. On these, a failed light is a two-minute fix with a bulb from any supermarket.

Most current hoods instead use an integrated LED module soldered into the assembly. There is no socket and no bulb. When the module fails the options are a warranty claim, a service call for a replacement assembly, or a new hood. Nothing on the box tells you which type you are buying.

So this guide does two things. Below the reviews there is a practical walkthrough of identifying your bulb type and replacing it safely. And these ten hoods are ranked on their lighting specifically — how much light, how it is placed, whether it dims, and crucially whether you will ever be able to change it.

One note on scope: this compares hoods by their lighting rather than reviewing replacement bulbs, because bulb type depends entirely on the hood you already own. The identification guide below covers that.

Wattage figures are manufacturer LED ratings. Only the Broan 413001 and the COMFEE’ F13 use user-replaceable bulb fittings; the remaining eight use integrated LED modules that cannot be re-lamped by the owner. Broan states the bulb is not included with the 413001 and names light guard part S99110437 for incandescent use. Products were verified as listed at the time of writing.

How We Chose These Range Hoods on Lighting

We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and examined recurring patterns in customer feedback. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data.

  • Whether the bulb is user-replaceable — the single most important factor here
  • Whether the bulb type is specified — A19, E26 or an unnamed module
  • Total LED wattage — from 1.5 W to 12 W across this list
  • Number and placement of lamps — one central lamp against two or four spread out
  • Dimming or brightness adjustment — which only two hoods here offer
  • Whether lights are aimable — to direct light at the front burners
  • Shadow behaviour — whether your own hand blocks the light
  • Warranty length — the only repair route on an integrated module
  • Thermal protection — because heat is what kills hood lighting
  • Whether light and fan switch separately — so the light works as task lighting

Standard sockets can be relit in two minutes; sealed modules cannot.

The 10 Best Range Hoods for Lighting

1. Broan-NuTone 413001 30″ — Best for Bulb Swaps

Broan-NuTone 413001 ductless range hood in white with lighting

If you are searching for a range hood light replacement, this is the specification that matters: a standard socket taking an ordinary A19 bulb you can buy anywhere, rated to 75 W maximum.

Broan goes further than any other brand here by naming the light guard as part S99110437 — required if you fit an incandescent bulb rather than an LED. That is the level of documentation that makes a hood repairable a decade later.

Key Specifications

Bulb holder Standard socket, user-replaceable
Recommended bulb Type A19
Maximum wattage 75 W
Designed for LED, with incandescent supported
Light guard Part S99110437, required for incandescent, sold separately
Controls Separate rocker switches for light and fan
Width 30 inches
Dimensions 6″D x 30″W x 17.5″H
Rating 4.6 out of 5 from 20,472 ratings
Best For A hood whose light you can fix yourself forever

Why We Recommend It

Separate rocker switches mean the light works independently of the fan, so it doubles as permanent task lighting over the hob.

The bulb is not supplied, which is a mild annoyance on delivery day and the reason the light is replaceable at all. A hood that ships with a bulb you can never change is the worse bargain.

Pros

  • Standard socket takes any A19 bulb
  • Bulb type and 75 W maximum both specified
  • Light guard named as part S99110437
  • Light switches independently of the fan
  • 4.6 out of 5 across 20,472 ratings

Cons

  • Bulb not included in the box
  • Only one light position
  • No CFM figure published
  • Non-ducted only

Best for: Anyone who wants to change a bulb rather than replace a hood.

2. COMFEE’ F13 30″ — Best Socket Included

COMFEE F13 30 inch under cabinet range hood in stainless steel

E26 is the ordinary screw fitting used by most household bulbs in the US. A hood that uses it can be relit from any supermarket, in any wattage or colour temperature you prefer.

COMFEE’ supplies the lamp holder itself in the box, alongside both filters and the fixings, which is more complete than any other package here.

Key Specifications

Bulb holder E26, supplied in the box
Fitting type Standard US household screw base
In the box Range hood, aluminium filter, carbon composite filter, E26 lamp holder, screw pack, baffle
Width 30 inches
Max airflow 200 CFM
Fan 2 speeds
Body Stainless steel
Dimensions 18″D x 29.8″W x 5.5″H
Rating 4.4 out of 5 from 1,799 ratings
Best For Using bulbs you already have in a drawer

Why We Recommend It

Being able to choose your own bulb is an underrated advantage. Integrated LED hoods fix the colour temperature at the factory; an E26 socket lets you fit warm white over a dining-adjacent hob or daylight for close work.

The hood itself is modest at 200 CFM and two speeds. You are buying it for the fitting and the completeness of the package, not the airflow.

Pros

  • E26 lamp holder included in the box
  • Takes ordinary household bulbs
  • You choose wattage and colour temperature
  • Carbon filter also included
  • 1,799 ratings at 4.4 out of 5

Cons

  • Bulb itself not supplied
  • 200 CFM is the lowest airflow here
  • Two speeds only
  • Single light position

Best for: Households that want to pick their own bulb colour.

3. SINDA 48″ Insert — Best Lighting Overall

SINDA 48 inch built-in insert range hood in stainless steel

Four LEDs spread across 48 inches light a wide cooktop far more evenly than the one or two lamps most hoods fit. Dimming control is rarer still — almost nothing at this price offers it.

Twelve watts of LED is roughly the useful output of a 75 W incandescent, concentrated exactly where you are working.

Key Specifications

Lighting 4 x 3 W LED, 12 W total
Control Dimming control on the light circuit
Type Integrated LED module
Width 48 inches
Max airflow 1,150 CFM
Fan 4 speeds
Delay shutoff 3-minute delay after cooking
Dimensions 18″D x 46.38″W x 10″H
Rating 4.1 out of 5 from 41 ratings
Best For Lighting a very wide cooktop evenly

Why We Recommend It

The dimming matters more than it sounds. Full brightness is right for chopping and checking colour; a low setting turns the hood into gentle over-hob lighting for the rest of the evening.

The trade-off is fundamental: this is an integrated LED module, not a socket. When it eventually fails there is no bulb to change, and with 41 ratings there is little evidence yet about how long that takes.

Pros

  • Four LEDs across 48 inches for even coverage
  • Dimming control, rare at this price
  • 12 W total, the highest output here
  • 3-minute delay shutoff
  • 1,150 CFM across a very wide hood

Cons

  • Integrated LED, no bulb to replace
  • Only 41 ratings
  • 48 inches suits few kitchens
  • 4.1 is the lower end of averages here

Best for: Very wide ranges needing even, adjustable light.

4. IKTCH IKP02-30 — Best Adjustable Lights

IKTCH 30 inch wall mount range hood with two adjustable lights

Most hood lights point straight down at a fixed angle. IKTCH makes these adjustable in aim as well as brightness, so you can throw light onto the front burners where the pan handle actually is.

Six watts of LED across two lamps is a sensible match for a 30-inch cooktop.

Key Specifications

Lighting 2 x 3 W LED, adjustable brightness
Adjustment Lights are physically adjustable as well as dimmable
Type Integrated LED
Width 30 inches
Max airflow 900 CFM
Fan 4 speeds
Noise 40 dB at the lowest setting
Controls Gesture sensing, touch panel and remote
Dimensions 19.68″D x 29.5″W x 51.1″H
Rating 4.4 out of 5 from 1,320 ratings
Best For Directing light where you actually cook

Why We Recommend It

With 1,320 ratings this is the best-evidenced hood in this list that offers adjustable lighting, which is worth weighing against the SINDA’s higher output and much thinner record.

As with every integrated LED here, there is no socket and no bulb. If the module fails outside warranty the repair is a service job, not a trip to the hardware store.

Pros

  • Lights adjust in aim as well as brightness
  • 1,320 ratings behind it
  • 900 CFM with 40 dB at low speed
  • Gesture, touch and remote control
  • Four fan speeds

Cons

  • Integrated LED with no replaceable bulb
  • 51.1 inches tall, ceiling height governs
  • Carbon filter sold separately
  • Gesture control can trigger accidentally

Best for: Cooks who want light aimed at the front of the hob.

5. COSMO Vista 30″ — Best Bright LED

COSMO Vista Collection 30 inch wall mount range hood in stainless steel

COSMO rates these 2-watt LEDs as long-lasting and high lumen, and pairs them with something more useful than a brightness claim: a two-year parts warranty and US-based support.

That matters specifically for lighting. On an integrated LED hood the warranty is the only route to a repair, so its length is part of the lighting specification whether the listing frames it that way or not.

Key Specifications

Lighting Energy-efficient 2 W LED, high lumen
Type Integrated LED
Width 30 inches
Max airflow 380 CFM
Fan 3 speeds, soft touch controls
Filters ARC-FLOW permanent, dishwasher safe, never need replacing
Electrical 120 V
Warranty 2-year limited parts
Support US-based customer support, stated
Height Adjustable 25.6 to 39.4 inches
Rating 4.4 out of 5 from 1,965 ratings
Best For Long-lasting lighting with support behind it

Why We Recommend It

The ARC-FLOW filters are permanent and dishwasher safe, so the hood has no consumable parts at all on the grease side.

Two watts is modest against the SINDA’s twelve. COSMO argues efficiency rather than raw output, and for a 30-inch hob over a 380 CFM fan that is a defensible balance rather than a corner cut.

Pros

  • Two-year limited parts warranty, longest here
  • US-based customer support stated
  • Permanent dishwasher-safe filters, no consumables
  • Adjustable chimney height 25.6 to 39.4 inches
  • 1,965 ratings at 4.4 out of 5

Cons

  • Only 2 W of LED
  • Integrated, no replaceable bulb
  • 380 CFM is mid-range
  • Soft touch controls, not buttons

Best for: Buyers who want the warranty to cover the light.

6. Zomagas Insert 30″ — Best Twin Placement

Zomagas 30 inch stainless steel insert range hood with front LED lights

Where the lights sit matters as much as how bright they are. Zomagas puts one on each side at the front, which is the arrangement that stops your own arm shadowing the pan.

The listing makes the point directly: whether you cook on the left or the right, the light reaches.

Key Specifications

Lighting Two bright cooking lights, front mounted on both sides
Placement One each side, so left and right burners are both lit
Type Integrated LED
Width 30 inches
Max airflow 600 CFM
Controls Front mechanical push buttons
Filters Two #430 stainless baffle filters, dishwasher safe
Convertible Ducted or ductless with charcoal filters, part CFZMG13
Dimensions 11.5″D x 27.8″W x 11.4″H
Rating 4.6 out of 5 from 306 ratings
Best For Avoiding shadows over the pan

Why We Recommend It

At 4.6 out of 5 this ties the Broan for the highest average in this list, and the mechanical push buttons keep working when your hands are greasy.

Zomagas also names the charcoal filter as CFZMG13, so the ductless conversion is properly supported. There is no dimming, and the LEDs are integrated rather than socketed.

Pros

  • Lights on both sides prevent shadowing
  • 4.6 average, joint highest here
  • Mechanical buttons survive greasy hands
  • Charcoal filter named as CFZMG13
  • Dishwasher-safe #430 stainless baffle filters

Cons

  • No dimming control
  • Integrated LED, no bulb to change
  • 306 ratings is a modest record
  • Needs a cabinet to sit in

Best for: Insert installs where shadowing is the real complaint.

7. Broan-NuTone PM300SS — Best Compact Insert

Broan-NuTone PM300SS custom power pack range hood insert in stainless steel

At 21 inches this is the narrowest hood here, designed to drop into a cabinet that will not take a 30-inch unit. The EZ1 clips make it one of the few inserts a competent DIYer can fit unaided.

The LED is integrated and single-brightness — no dimming, no socket — but it comes from the manufacturer most likely to still supply a replacement assembly years from now.

Key Specifications

Lighting 1-level bright LED
Type Integrated LED
Width 21 inches built
Max airflow 300 CFM
Fan 2-speed rocker switch
Noise 3 sones, comparable to conversation
Install EZ1 clips included; liner extension fits cabinets up to 13 inches deep
Optional ADA-compliant wall remote, sold separately
Dimensions 11.43″D x 21.37″W x 2.81″H
Rating 4.5 out of 5 from 240 ratings
Best For Narrow cabinets with brand support behind them

Why We Recommend It

Three sones is a genuine noise rating from a brand that publishes them properly, which is roughly the level of ordinary conversation.

An ADA-compliant wall remote is available separately, which is a useful option where the hood sits above a reach that is difficult.

Pros

  • Narrowest hood here at 21 inches
  • EZ1 clips make DIY fitting practical
  • 3 sones, a properly published noise rating
  • Liner extension for cabinets to 13 inches
  • Broan parts network behind it

Cons

  • Single brightness, no dimming
  • Integrated LED, no bulb to change
  • 300 CFM is modest
  • Wall remote sold separately

Best for: Narrow cabinets where brand support still matters.

8. VIKIO HOME 36″ Wall — Best Shadow-Free

VIKIO HOME 36 inch wall mount range hood in brushed stainless steel

Shadow-free is the right thing to optimise for over a hob. Harsh directional light throws the shadow of your own hand into the pan, which is precisely where you need to see.

VIKIO pairs that with the clearest noise figures in this list: 40 dBA at low speed and under 65 dBA at high.

Key Specifications

Lighting Integrated energy-saving LED, stated 30 per cent energy saving
Quality Natural, shadow-free illumination, per VIKIO
Type Integrated LED
Width 36 inches
Max airflow 580 CFM
Motor Dual-sided intake, stated 20 per cent more airflow
Noise 40 dBA at low, under 65 dBA at high
Filters 2 dishwasher-safe stainless steel permanent
Dimensions 19.69″D x 35.24″W x 41″H
Rating 4.4 out of 5 from 269 ratings
Best For Even light across a wide cooktop

Why We Recommend It

Thirty-six inches of coverage at 580 CFM suits a five-burner range, and the permanent stainless filters go in the dishwasher rather than the bin.

There is no dimming, and the LED is integrated. VIKIO is also the newest brand here at 269 ratings, so the long-term evidence on the light module is thin.

Pros

  • Shadow-free light quality claimed and explained
  • Clearest published noise figures here
  • 36-inch coverage for wide ranges
  • Stated 30 per cent LED energy saving
  • Dishwasher-safe permanent filters

Cons

  • No dimming control
  • Integrated LED with no bulb
  • 269 ratings is a thin record
  • Carbon filter sold separately

Best for: Wide hobs where shadowing spoils the view of the pan.

9. IKTCH IKB02-36 — Best Wide Insert

IKTCH 36 inch built-in insert range hood with adjustable lights

Same adjustable lighting as the wall-mount IKTCH, in a body that hides inside cabinetry. For a fitted kitchen that is usually the tidier result.

Three baffle filters rather than two spreads the capture across the full 36 inches, and each has a handlebar for removal without burning your fingers.

Key Specifications

Lighting 2 x 3 W LED, adjustable brightness
Type Integrated LED
Width 36 inches
Max airflow 900 CFM
Fan 4 speeds
Noise 40 dB at the lowest setting
Filters 3 dishwasher-safe stainless baffle filters with handlebar
Convertible Ducted or ductless
Dimensions 18.5″D x 34.38″W x 13.13″H
Rating 4.5 out of 5 from 726 ratings
Best For Wide cabinets wanting adjustable light

Why We Recommend It

Nine hundred CFM across 36 inches is generous, and 40 dB at the lowest of four speeds means it can run quietly through a long cook.

The lighting is adjustable in brightness but integrated, so the same caveat applies as to every LED module here. Seven hundred and twenty-six ratings is a reasonable record for an insert.

Pros

  • Adjustable brightness on both lamps
  • Three baffle filters across 36 inches
  • 900 CFM with 40 dB at low speed
  • Filters have handlebars for safe removal
  • 726 ratings at 4.5 out of 5

Cons

  • Integrated LED, no bulb to change
  • Needs a cabinet or chimney breast
  • Carbon filter sold separately
  • One of the harder types to fit

Best for: Wide fitted kitchens wanting dimmable light.

10. CT Copper Tailor 48″ — Best Safety Feature

CT Copper Tailor 48 inch built-in range hood vent insert in stainless steel

Included here for a lighting-adjacent reason that rarely gets attention: this hood cuts its own power if the temperature climbs too high, which protects the light assembly along with everything else.

Heat is what kills hood lighting. A bulb or LED sitting directly above a searing pan runs hot, and thermal protection extends its life.

Key Specifications

Lighting Integrated LED lighting
Safety Automatic power shut-off if temperature runs too high
Certification ETL listed, conforms to UL 507, certified to CSA
Material Commercial-grade 304 stainless, fully welded seamless
Width 48 inches
Max airflow 1,150 CFM
Features Built-in oil collector, grease filter
Dimensions 18″D x 46.37″W x 10″H
Rating 4.1 out of 5 from 84 ratings
Best For Wide installs where certification matters

Why We Recommend It

The 304 stainless is a genuine step up from the 430 grade used by most brands here, with better corrosion resistance and fully welded seamless construction.

ETL listed, conforming to UL 507 and certified to CSA is more third-party certification than any other hood in this list publishes. Eighty-four ratings is a thin record, and 4.1 the joint lowest average here.

Pros

  • Automatic thermal shut-off protects the light assembly
  • 304 stainless, better than the usual 430
  • ETL listed, UL 507 and CSA certified
  • Fully welded seamless construction
  • 1,150 CFM across 48 inches

Cons

  • Only 84 ratings
  • 4.1 is the joint lowest average here
  • Integrated LED, no replaceable bulb
  • 48 inches suits few kitchens

Best for: Wide installs where certification and heat protection matter.

How to Identify and Replace a Range Hood Light

First, isolate the power. Switch the hood off at the wall and then at the consumer unit or breaker panel. Hood lights sit inches from metal you will be touching, and some run hot enough to burn well after being switched off. Let the lamp cool before handling it.

Then work out what fitting you have. There are three common possibilities. A screw base like an ordinary household bulb is an E26 in the US — this is what COMFEE’ supplies a holder for, and it takes any standard bulb. A pear-shaped bulb marked A19 is the type Broan specifies for the 413001, rated to 75 watts maximum. A small two-pin capsule sitting in a recessed housing is a halogen or LED capsule, and the pin spacing determines the replacement.

If there is no socket at all, it is an integrated module. Look for a sealed lens with no visible bulb behind it and no way to twist or unclip anything. Eight of the ten hoods in this list are built this way. There is no user replacement: the route is a warranty claim, a replacement light assembly from the manufacturer, or living with it.

Match the wattage ceiling, not just the fitting. Broan states 75 watts maximum for the 413001. Exceeding a stated maximum in an enclosed housing above a heat source is a genuine fire risk, not a technicality. LED bulbs make this easy — an LED drawing 9 watts produces the light of a 60 watt incandescent while staying well inside any ceiling.

Check whether a light guard is required. This is the detail almost every guide omits. Broan states that if you fit an incandescent bulb rather than an LED in the 413001, you must separately purchase light guard part S99110437. Fitting the wrong bulb type without the guard is exactly the kind of small omission that causes problems later.

Choose the colour temperature deliberately. This is the one advantage a socket has over any integrated module. Around 2700K is warm and suits a hood visible from a dining area; 4000K and above is neutral to cool and better for judging whether meat is browned or burnt. An integrated LED fixes this choice at the factory.

How to Choose a Range Hood for Its Lighting

Decide Whether You Need It to Be Re-Lampable

This is the question that outranks every other in this article. A hood with a standard socket can be relit for the price of a bulb for as long as you own it. An integrated LED module has a finite life and no user repair. If you are fitting a hood in a house you intend to keep, weight this heavily.

Count the Lamps, Not Just the Watts

One bright lamp in the middle throws your hand’s shadow straight into the pan. Two lamps at the front on either side, as Zomagas fits, or four spread across a wide hood as SINDA does, light the cooktop far more usefully than a single higher-wattage source in the centre.

Match the Lighting to the Hood Width

Two watts is adequate over a 24-inch hob and thin across 48 inches. SINDA fits 12 watts across 48 inches; FIREGAS fits 1.5 watts on a 36-inch hood. Work out watts per inch of cooktop rather than reading the headline number, and be suspicious of a wide hood with a single small lamp.

Look for Dimming if the Kitchen Is Open Plan

Only the SINDA offers proper dimming control, with IKTCH offering adjustable brightness on both its models. In an open-plan room that turns the hood into evening lighting rather than a work light you switch off the moment cooking ends. It is a genuinely useful feature and a rare one.

Check the Light Switches Independently of the Fan

Broan’s separate rocker switches let the light run without the fan, which is what makes a hood light usable as everyday task lighting. Hoods that tie the two together, or that route everything through one touch panel, are less pleasant to live with than the specification suggests.

Treat the Warranty as Part of the Lighting Spec

On an integrated LED the warranty is the only repair route, so its length is a lighting specification. COSMO’s two-year limited parts cover is the longest here; most of the newer brands offer one year. That difference is worth more on a sealed module than on a hood with a socket.

Consider Thermal Protection

Heat is what kills hood lighting, and a lamp sitting above a searing pan runs hot. CT Copper Tailor fits an automatic shut-off that cuts power if the temperature climbs too far, which protects the light assembly along with the motor. Few hoods at any price publish this.

Buy the Bulb at the Same Time

Broan states plainly that the bulb is not included with the 413001, and COMFEE’ supplies the holder but not the lamp. Neither is unreasonable, but both mean a hood that arrives unable to light anything. Order an A19 or E26 LED alongside the hood and fit both on the same afternoon.

Chef working under bright kitchen task lighting
Dimmable lighting lets one fixture do two jobs.

Common Mistakes When Replacing a Range Hood Light

  • Not isolating the circuit first. Switching the hood off is not the same as cutting power at the breaker.
  • Touching the lamp while it is still hot. Hood lights sit above a heat source and stay hot long after switch-off.
  • Exceeding the stated maximum wattage. Broan specifies 75 W for the 413001; more than that in an enclosed housing above a hob is a real fire risk.
  • Fitting an incandescent without the required light guard. Broan names part S99110437 for exactly this case.
  • Assuming every hood can be re-lamped. Eight of the ten hoods here use sealed LED modules with no bulb at all.
  • Buying a bulb before identifying the fitting. E26, A19 and two-pin capsules are not interchangeable.
  • Handling a halogen capsule with bare fingers. Skin oils create hot spots that shorten its life considerably.
  • Ignoring colour temperature. A very cool bulb over a hob visible from the dining table makes the whole room feel clinical.

Who Should Prioritise Range Hood Lighting?

Lighting deserves to lead the decision if:

  • The hob is away from a window — where the hood light is the only task light you get
  • You cook in the evening — when the ceiling light is behind you and casting shadows
  • The kitchen is open plan — where a dimmable hood light earns its place after dinner
  • You are replacing a hood whose light already failed — the exact situation this guide is written for
  • Your eyesight needs more light than it did — where output and placement both matter
  • You judge doneness by colour — where a neutral 4000K bulb is genuinely more useful than a warm one

When Does Hood Lighting Matter Less?

If the hob already sits under good downlights or beside a window, the hood light is a convenience rather than a necessity, and airflow and noise deserve the attention instead. Even then, the re-lampable question is worth asking — a sealed module that fails in year six on an otherwise sound hood is a frustrating reason to replace an appliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can all range hood lights be replaced?

No, and this is the central thing to understand. Hoods with a standard socket — such as the Broan 413001 taking an A19 bulb, or the COMFEE’ F13 with its E26 holder — can be relit by anyone. Most current hoods use an integrated LED module with no socket and no bulb, and those cannot be re-lamped by the owner at all.

What bulb does a range hood take?

It depends entirely on the hood. The common fittings are E26, the ordinary US household screw base; A19, a pear-shaped bulb that Broan specifies for the 413001 with a 75 watt maximum; and small two-pin halogen or LED capsules in recessed housings. Identify the fitting on your own hood before buying anything, since they are not interchangeable.

How do I know if my hood has an integrated LED?

Look for a sealed lens with no visible bulb behind it and nothing that twists, unclips or unscrews. If you cannot see a socket once the filter is removed, it is almost certainly an integrated module. Eight of the ten hoods compared here are built that way, and none of them can be re-lamped.

What wattage bulb should I use?

Never more than the maximum the manufacturer states — 75 watts for the Broan 413001. Exceeding it inside an enclosed housing above a heat source is a genuine fire risk. In practice LED makes this simple: a 9 watt LED gives roughly the light of a 60 watt incandescent while staying far below any ceiling.

Do I need a light guard?

Sometimes, and it is easy to miss. Broan states that fitting an incandescent bulb rather than an LED in the 413001 requires light guard part S99110437, purchased separately. Check your own manual for an equivalent requirement before fitting an incandescent bulb in any enclosed hood housing.

Is it safe to change a range hood bulb myself?

Generally yes, with two precautions. Isolate the circuit at the breaker rather than just switching the hood off, and let the lamp cool completely before touching it, because hood lights sit directly above a heat source. If the fitting is damaged or the wiring looks perished, that is an electrician’s job rather than a bulb change.

What colour temperature works best over a hob?

Around 4000K neutral white is the most practical for cooking, because it lets you judge browning accurately, whereas a very warm bulb makes everything look more cooked than it is. If the hood is visible from a dining area, something warmer around 2700K to 3000K sits better in the room. A socket lets you choose; an integrated LED does not.

Why did my LED hood light fail so soon?

Heat is the usual cause. LEDs sitting above a searing pan run far hotter than the same lamp in a ceiling fitting, and heat shortens LED life sharply. That is why thermal protection like the automatic shut-off on the CT Copper Tailor hood matters, and why keeping grease filters clean helps — a blocked filter makes the whole housing run hotter.

If you came here because a hood light has failed, start by finding out whether there is a socket behind the lens. If there is, the fix costs the price of a bulb — match the fitting, respect the stated wattage ceiling, check whether a light guard is specified, and isolate the circuit before you start. If there is no socket, the light is a sealed module and the honest answer is that it is not a repair you can make.

That distinction is worth carrying into the next purchase too. Integrated LEDs are brighter, some dim, and a few can be aimed, which is a real improvement over a single bulb in a housing. But they turn a failed light from a two-minute job into a reason to replace an appliance. Whether that trade is worth making depends on how long you intend to keep the hood.
