Every small ice cream maker on this page sells speed. Dash promises “Soft Serve in About 20 Minutes”. Snowlie puts “15-Minute” in its title. OVENTE says you can enjoy the treats “in just a few minutes”. Read the ten listings side by side and a second clock appears, one measured in hours. Almost every machine here churns its mix inside a bowl or mug that has to be frozen solid first, and that freeze takes far longer than the churn.
Three listings put a number on it. Dash says each of its mugs “chills 24 to 48 hours”. Funlo says the bowl “must be frozen for at least 24 hours before use; 48 hours is recommended”. Snowlie asks for “at least 12 hours at -18°C (0°F)”, the shortest stated freeze and the only listing that names a freezer temperature. Two more, the OVENTE and the Elite Gourmet, say “overnight”, which is a habit rather than a number.
Four give no freeze time at all, and one needs none. The Disney Dash Stitch mug tells you to “freeze the Stitch Mug” and stops there. The two Small Home listings describe cooling and a dual-layer bowl without saying whether, or for how long, anything goes in the freezer. The BLACK+DECKER Perfect Pint works the other way round, freezing the mix itself before a “Re-Spin” blade processes it, and it does not say how long that freeze takes either. The tenth machine, the Whynter, has its own compressor and says “No Pre-Freezing Needed”.
Put the two clocks together and the churn is the short part. On the Dash listing, 20 minutes of churning follows 24 to 48 hours of freezing: by our arithmetic, the wait is 72 to 144 times as long as the churn. On the Funlo it is about 48 to 115 times. Even the Snowlie, with the shortest stated freeze, asks you to wait about 29 to 48 times as long as it churns. A small ice cream maker is quick on the worktop because your freezer has already done most of the work.
That changes what “small” has to mean. It is not only a footprint on the counter, though stated machine footprints run from about 31 square inches on the Snowlie and Funlo to about 61 on the OVENTE among the bowl machines, and about 152 on the compressor-driven Whynter, our arithmetic. It is also a bowl that has to fit in your freezer, a batch size that has to suit how many people are eating, and a second bowl if you want a second batch the same day. Stated capacities run from a half pint per mug to a full quart, a fourfold spread, and three listings state no capacity at all.
The best-selling machine here is the one that sells the freeze as its feature. The Dash My Mug two-pack ranks #315 overall and #2 in Ice Cream Machines, by far the best rank on the page. Its pitch is not a faster churn but a second mug: “freeze both, and one is always ready”. The only machine here that escapes the clock altogether is the Whynter, whose built-in compressor “chills the mixture as it churns”, and at 24.25 pounds it is the heaviest product on the page.
So this guide sorts the ten by what each listing tells you about the clock that matters: the stated freeze, then the stated churn, then capacity and footprint. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only. All ten were captured on 5 October 2026, with overall ranks from #315 to #83,052.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. Capacities, freeze times and churn times are quoted as each listing states them. “Overnight” is the listing’s word, not a number of hours. The OVENTE title and bullets say 1 quart while its size field says 1 Liter; both figures are reported. The BLACK+DECKER gives no capacity figure; “pint” comes from its name and bullets. The Whynter uses a built-in compressor and, by its listing, needs no pre-freeze. The Stitch listing gives no freeze time; the separate Dash two-pack listing gives 24 to 48 hours for its mugs. Ranks are overall Best Sellers Ranks as returned on 5 October 2026; the Elite Gourmet row shows its category rank, and its overall rank is #13,389. All ten are ranked in Ice Cream Machines. Five were sold by Amazon.com at capture; the Small Home Mini was flagged as scarce stock. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for any product here.

How We Chose These Ten
We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read each listing’s claims about capacity, freezing, churning and size line by line. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these machines.
- Small batches only — every product here makes, or is part of a machine that makes, a quart or less per batch by its own description, or is sold as mini, personal or single-serve. Two-quart bowl machines and full-size compressor machines were not in the running; the one compressor machine here states a 0.5 quart batch.
- Complete machines only — spare bowls and other accessories were excluded. One machine, the Whynter, has its own compressor; it is included because it is the one product on this page that removes the pre-freeze altogether.
- Freeze time recorded exactly as printed — hours where the listing gives hours, “overnight” where it says overnight, and “not stated” where it says nothing. We did not borrow a figure from one listing for another, except where we say so.
- Churn time and capacity as printed — minutes and capacities are quoted from titles, bullets and spec fields. Where two fields on one listing disagree, we report both. Unit conversions, footprints and wait-to-churn ratios are our arithmetic and labelled as such.
- Footprint from stated dimensions only — we multiplied stated length by width where a listing gives both. Listings do not say whether a dimension is the product or its box, and we flag that wherever it matters.
- Implausible or mismatched fields noted — several brand and model fields do not match the product title, and we report them rather than guess.
- Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only — ranks are quoted exactly as returned on 5 October 2026, overall and in the category Amazon assigned. Ranks move constantly.
- Verified stock and seller — each product was the buy-box offer and in stock on amazon.com on 5 October 2026. The Small Home Mini was flagged as scarce stock at capture.

The Ten Small Ice Cream Makers in Detail
1. Dash My Mug Ice Cream Maker 2 Pack Bundle, Half-Pint Freezer Mugs, Aqua — Best Overall

The only listing that turns the freeze clock into its selling point, with two mugs so one is always frozen.
Key Specifications
| Capacity | Half-pint freezer mugs, 2 in the bundle |
|---|---|
| Pre-freeze | Each mug chills 24 to 48 hours, stated |
| Churn time | About 20 minutes, stated |
| Makes | Soft serve, ice cream, gelato, nice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt |
| Mix-ins | Built-in ingredient chute |
| Listed dimensions | 13.5 x 7.48 x 5.39 in |
| Listed weight | 4.81 pounds |
| Storage | Parts nest inside the mugs (SmartStore) |
| Model | DMIC200GBAQ04 |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #315 overall; #2 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
This listing states both clocks, and then solves the slow one. The churn is “Soft Serve in About 20 Minutes”. The freeze is in the first bullet: “each Mug chills 24 to 48 hours, so freeze both, and one is always ready with one touch”. No other complete machine on the page admits so plainly that the wait is the real constraint, and none offers a second freezer vessel in the box. If you want ice cream on a whim more than once every day or two, a second frozen mug is worth more than a faster motor.
The arithmetic shows why the second mug matters. Twenty minutes of churning against 24 to 48 hours of freezing means the mug spends 72 to 144 times as long in the freezer as it does on the motor, by our arithmetic. With one mug, a second batch the same evening is impossible. With two, you can churn one, wash it, put it back to freeze, and still have the other ready the next day. That is the whole logic of the bundle, and the listing says it in so many words.
Each batch is small. The title says “Half-Pint Freezer Mugs”, and the first bullet says it “churns creamy soft serve for two”. A half pint is 8 US fluid ounces, about 237 millilitres, our conversion. Two mugs make a pint between them, but only one at a time. The listing does not say clearly whether the bundle contains one motor and two mugs or two complete machines: the size field reads “2 Bowls”, and the phrase “one is always ready” suggests a single motor working from whichever mug is frozen. Ask before ordering if you want two batches churning at once.
It eats from the vessel it churns in. “Then eat right from the Mug” means no scooping and one less bowl to wash. The “Built-In Ingredient Chute” takes chips, fruit or cookie dough “near the end of churning”, and the listing claims soft serve, ice cream, gelato, “non-dairy nice cream”, sorbet and frozen yogurt. Storage is designed around the freezer problem too: “everything nests inside the Mugs with the SmartStore design”, though in practice the mugs themselves will spend most of their lives in the freezer.
The size figures need a caveat. The spec fields give 13.5 by 7.48 by 5.39 inches and 4.81 pounds. That outline is about 101 square inches, our arithmetic, larger than any single bowl machine on the page, but it almost certainly describes the two-mug bundle rather than one mug on the counter. The listing does not say. The single-mug Stitch edition from the same maker lists 2.6 pounds and no dimensions.
What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #315 overall and #2 in Ice Cream Machines, about 29 times better overall than the next machine here, by our arithmetic. No warranty or wattage is stated. If half a pint per batch is enough, and you have room in the freezer for two mugs, this is the small ice cream maker that best fits the way the freeze clock actually works.
Pros
- Freeze time stated: 24 to 48 hours
- Churn time stated: about 20 minutes
- Two mugs, so one can always be frozen
- Eat straight from the mug
- Ingredient chute for mix-ins
- Best rank here: #315 overall, #2 in category
Cons
- Half a pint per batch
- Unclear whether one motor or two is included
- Two mugs to find freezer room for
- Listed size likely the bundle, not one unit
- No warranty or wattage stated
- Longest stated freeze, up to 48 hours
Best for: One or two people who want small batches often and have freezer space to keep a second mug ready.
2. Funlo Ice Cream Maker, Personal Single-Serve Machine for Homemade Desserts — Best Documented

The most complete statement of capacity, freeze, churn and footprint on the page, and the longest stated wait.
Key Specifications
| Capacity | 500 mL, stated |
|---|---|
| Pre-freeze | At least 24 hours; 48 hours recommended |
| Churn time | About 25–30 minutes once the bowl is frozen |
| Makes | Ice cream, gelato-style desserts, sorbet, sherbet, frozen yogurt |
| Stated dimensions | 5.63 x 5.63 x 6.5 in |
| Listed weight | Not stated |
| Model | BQ17; brand field reads BINK WATER BOTTLE |
| Colour | Light green or pink |
| Seller | JHTCKJYXGS |
| Best Sellers Rank | #47,153 overall; #44 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
If you want to know exactly what you are signing up for, this is the clearest listing here. Four of its five bullets carry a number. Capacity: “a 500mL capacity designed for personal-size portions”. Freeze: “The freezing bowl must be frozen for at least 24 hours before use; 48 hours is recommended for better freezing performance.” Churn: “the actual churning process takes approximately 25–30 minutes”. Footprint: “Measuring 5.63 × 5.63 × 6.5 inches”. No other complete machine on the page gives all four.
The honesty includes the slow part. The phrase “Once the bowl is properly frozen” is the most important qualifier on the page, and Funlo is the only listing to attach it directly to its churn time. Its 24-hour minimum ties the Dash for the longest stated floor, and its recommended 48 hours ties the Dash ceiling. By our arithmetic, the recommended freeze is about 96 to 115 times the stated churn. Plan your first batch for the day after it arrives at the earliest, and the day after that if you follow the recommendation.
500 millilitres is slightly more than a US pint. By our conversion it is about 16.9 US fluid ounces, or 1.06 pints. That puts it in the same class as the Elite Gourmet and the Whynter’s 0.5 quart, and about twice the Dash half-pint mug. The listing calls it “just enough homemade dessert for the moment”, and says the machine suits “after-dinner treats, weekend desserts and refreshing summer cravings without making a large batch”. As with every bowl machine here, the listing does not say whether 500 mL is the bowl volume or the finished yield.
The footprint is the smallest stated on the page. 5.63 by 5.63 inches is about 31.7 square inches, our arithmetic, roughly half the OVENTE’s base. The Snowlie gives almost the same figures, 5.6 by 5.6 by 6.5 inches, and its metric figure of 14.3 centimetres converts to exactly 5.63 inches, which suggests the two may share a body. At 6.5 inches tall, it should slide under most wall cabinets, and the bowl that goes in the freezer is unlikely to be much wider than the base.
A few fields do not match the name. The brand field reads “BINK WATER BOTTLE”, not Funlo, and the colour field reads “Light green、Pink” without saying which you get. No weight, wattage or warranty is stated. None of that changes what the bullets say, but it is worth knowing who you are buying from: the seller is JHTCKJYXGS.
What to weigh. It ranks #47,153 overall and #44 in Ice Cream Machines. If you want a single-serve machine whose listing tells you the capacity, the freeze, the churn and the footprint before you buy, nothing else on this page matches it. Accept the longest stated wait and a third-party seller.
Pros
- 500 mL capacity stated
- Freeze time stated: 24 hours minimum, 48 recommended
- Churn time stated: 25–30 minutes
- Smallest stated footprint, about 31.7 sq in
- Sorbet, sherbet and frozen yogurt named
- Plain 3-step use, stated
Cons
- Longest stated freeze, up to 48 hours
- Brand field does not match the name
- No weight, wattage or warranty stated
- Third-party seller
- Colour you receive not specified
- No mix-in chute mentioned
Best for: A single-serve buyer who wants every number on the listing before ordering and can plan a day or two ahead.
3. Snowlie Ice Cream Maker, 15-Minute Swirl Cup Ice Cream Maker, Mini, Sky Blue — Shortest Stated Freeze

Half the stated freeze of the Dash and Funlo, the only freezer temperature on the page, and no capacity.
Key Specifications
| Capacity | Not stated; “smaller batches” |
|---|---|
| Pre-freeze | At least 12 hours at -18°C (0°F) |
| Churn time | About 15–25 minutes; title says 15-Minute |
| Makes | Ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, gelato-style desserts |
| Mix-ins | Open chute; transparent lid |
| Stated dimensions | 5.6 x 5.6 x 6.5 in (14.3 x 14.3 x 16.5 cm) |
| Stated weight | About 2.4 lb (1.1 kg) |
| Materials | ABS and PP |
| Model | HGE183; brand field reads Askbp |
| Seller | wujinxuedexiaodian |
| Best Sellers Rank | #62,538 overall; #52 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
This is the shortest stated freeze on the page, and the only one with a temperature. “Pre-freeze the freezer bowl for at least 12 hours at -18°C (0°F), add your chilled mixture, and press the button to start.” Twelve hours is half the Dash and Funlo minimum. And 0°F is the figure every other listing leaves out: a bowl frozen in a freezer that runs warmer than that will not be as cold, however long it sits. If your freezer is a compartment inside a small fridge, that number is the one to check against it.
The churn claim depends on where you read it. The title says “15-Minute Swirl Cup”. The first bullet says “Enjoy freshly made frozen treats in about 15–25 minutes of churning”. Plan for 25. On that figure, the stated freeze is about 29 to 48 times the churn, by our arithmetic: still the slow part, but the smallest ratio on the page. Snowlie also adds a realistic note at the end: “For a firmer consistency, place the finished dessert in the freezer until it reaches your preferred texture.” That is true of every machine here, and only this listing says so.
It gives the second-fullest set of dimensions. “Measuring approximately 5.6 × 5.6 × 6.5 inches (14.3 × 14.3 × 16.5 cm) and weighing about 2.4 lb (1.1 kg)”. That is about 31.4 square inches of counter, our arithmetic, and the lightest stated complete machine on the page. The metric figures convert to 5.63 by 5.63 by 6.5 inches, the Funlo’s exact numbers, which suggests the two may be the same body under different names. The listing names “kitchens, apartments, dorms, RVs and other smaller spaces”.
It does not say how much it makes. There is no capacity in the title, bullets or spec fields; the closest is “Make smaller batches with your favorite ingredients”. If it does share the Funlo’s body, the bowl may be similar, but that is an inference, not a statement, and you should ask the seller. The “transparent lid lets you watch the churning process, while the open chute allows you to add chocolate chips, chopped nuts, fruit pieces, sprinkles”, and parts are “durable ABS and PP components”.
What to weigh. It is sold by wujinxuedexiaodian, the brand field reads “Askbp”, and it ranks #62,538 overall and #52 in Ice Cream Machines. No warranty or wattage is stated. If you want the shortest stated wait and a freezer temperature to check against, this is the listing; ask for the capacity first.
Pros
- Shortest stated freeze: 12 hours
- Only freezer temperature stated: 0°F
- Churn stated: 15–25 minutes
- Lightest stated machine, about 2.4 lb
- Transparent lid and open mix-in chute
- Full dimensions in inches and centimetres
Cons
- No capacity stated
- Title says 15 minutes; bullet says up to 25
- Brand field does not match the name
- Third-party seller
- No warranty or wattage stated
- #62,538 overall
Best for: A buyer who wants the shortest stated freeze and can confirm their freezer reaches 0°F.
4. Whynter Automatic Rolled Ice Cream Maker, 0.5 Qt, Stainless Steel, ICR-300SS — No Pre-Freeze

The one machine here that skips the freezer clock entirely, and the heaviest and largest product on the page.
Key Specifications
| Capacity | 0.5 quart, stated |
|---|---|
| Pre-freeze | None needed; built-in compressor, stated |
| Freezing method | CFC-free compressor chills the mixture as it churns |
| Style | Rolled ice cream pan, Thai-style rolled ice cream |
| Churn time | Not stated |
| Listed dimensions | 14.25 x 10.7 x 9.6 in |
| Listed weight | 24.25 pounds |
| Housing | Stainless steel |
| Warranty | One Year Limited Manufacturer Warranty |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #17,139 overall; #17 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
This is the only machine on the page with no freeze clock at all. The second bullet is headed “No Pre-Freezing Needed” and reads: “A self-contained, CFC-free compressor chills the mixture as it churns, so you can make batch after batch without freezing a bowl overnight.” Every other machine here freezes something first: a bowl, a mug or, on the BLACK+DECKER, the mix itself. The Whynter carries its own refrigeration, so the 12 to 48 hours that the other listings ask for simply does not apply.
It is sold as a rolled ice cream maker. The title says “Automatic Rolled Ice Cream Maker”, and the first bullet is headed “Rolled Ice Cream Pan”: “perfect for Thai-style rolled ice cream, freezing up to 0.5 Quarts for your convenience”. Rolled ice cream is usually made by spreading a thin layer of mix on a very cold flat pan and scraping it up into rolls once it sets. The listing also says the compressor chills the mixture “as it churns”, which is churn-machine language. It does not explain how the pan and the churning relate, so expect a chilled pan and read the manual for the method.
The batch is a pint, and it can repeat. 0.5 quart is 16 US fluid ounces, about 473 millilitres, our conversion: the same as the Elite Gourmet’s pint and twice a Dash mug. The difference is what happens next. A pint bowl machine needs another day in the freezer before a second pint; the Whynter says you can go “batch after batch”. No churn or chilling time is stated, so the listing does not say how long each pint takes.
Skipping the freezer costs space and weight. The spec fields give 14.25 by 10.7 by 9.6 inches and 24.25 pounds. That is about 152 square inches of counter, our arithmetic, roughly two and a half times the OVENTE and nearly five times the Funlo or Snowlie, and the heaviest product on the page, ahead of the BLACK+DECKER’s 18.6 pounds. The bullet calls it a “sleek, compact design”; next to the other nine, it is the largest machine here. Amazon files it under Major Appliances. What you get back is freezer space: there is no bowl to store frozen.
What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #17,139 overall and #17 in Ice Cream Machines, fourth on the page. The housing is “durable stainless steel” that “wipes clean in seconds”, and the warranty field reads “One Year Limited Manufacturer Warranty”, one of only two stated warranties here. Buy it if the freezer clock is the problem and you have the counter for a 24-pound machine; for wider compressor options, see our compressor ice cream maker roundup.
Pros
- No pre-freeze; built-in compressor, stated
- Batch after batch without waiting, stated
- 0.5 quart, a pint per batch
- One-year limited warranty
- Stainless steel housing
- Sold by Amazon.com; #17 in category
Cons
- 24.25 lb listed, heaviest here
- About 152 sq in, largest footprint here
- No churn or chill time stated
- Rolled-pan and churn descriptions not reconciled
- Called compact despite its size
- No wattage stated
Best for: A buyer who wants pint batches on demand with no bowl in the freezer, and has counter space for a 24 lb machine.
5. Elite Gourmet Americana Pint Perfect EIM1205M 1 Pint Freezing Mug Ice Cream Maker, Mint — Best Pint

A pint you churn in and eat from, with an overnight freeze and very little else stated.
Key Specifications
| Capacity | 1 pint, stated |
|---|---|
| Pre-freeze | Freeze the bowl overnight |
| Churn time | Not given; “a tasty dessert in a short time” |
| Makes | Frozen yogurt, gelato, ice cream, sorbet |
| Vessel | Freezing mug; eat directly from the mug |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Weight | Not stated |
| Included | Recipes |
| Model | EIM1205M; colour field Spearmint |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #13,389 overall; #16 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
This is the plainest pint on the page. The title says “1 Pint Freezing Mug”, the size field says “1 Pint”, and the bullets say “The 1 Pint capacity provides just the perfect amount of servings for family and friends.” A pint is 16 US fluid ounces, about 473 millilitres, our conversion: twice a Dash mug, half the OVENTE. For the buyer searching for the best pint ice cream maker, it is the one complete freezer-mug machine here whose capacity is a pint in every field.
Like the Dash, you eat from the mug. “The Americana automatic ice cream maker comes with a convenient freezable bowl that allows you to quickly make ice cream and eat directly from the mug.” That saves a bowl and a scoop, and it means the vessel that comes out of the freezer is the one you carry to the sofa. It also means, as with every single-vessel machine here, that a second pint the same day needs a second frozen mug, which the listing does not offer.
The freeze is “overnight”. “Simply freeze the bowl overnight, then add the ingredient mixture into the machine, push a button and you’ll have a tasty dessert in a short time.” Overnight is a word, not a number. A typical night is well short of the 24-hour minimum that the Dash and Funlo give for vessels of similar size, so treat overnight as the least you should expect, and give the mug a full day if you can. The churn time is not given at all; “a short time” is the only clue.
Nothing about its size is stated. The spec fields carry no dimensions and no weight. For a buyer choosing a small ice cream maker by footprint, that is a real gap; the Funlo, Snowlie and OVENTE all give dimensions. The mug has to fit in your freezer as well as on your counter, and on this listing you will learn its size when it arrives. The model is EIM1205M, and the colour field says “Spearmint” where the title says Mint.
What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #13,389 overall and #16 in Ice Cream Machines, the third-best rank on the page. “INCLUDES RECIPES” for frozen yogurt, gelato, ice cream and sorbet. No warranty, wattage or mix-in chute is stated. Buy it for a stated pint from Amazon.com, and ask about the size if your freezer is tight.
Pros
- 1 pint stated in title, bullets and size field
- Eat directly from the freezing mug
- Recipes included
- Sold by Amazon.com
- #16 in Ice Cream Machines, third-best rank here
- No salt or ice needed, stated
Cons
- Freeze given only as overnight
- No churn time stated
- No dimensions or weight stated
- One mug, so one pint per freeze
- No warranty or wattage stated
- No mix-in chute mentioned
Best for: A couple or small household that wants a stated pint per batch, bought from Amazon.com, and has room for an unmeasured mug.
6. OVENTE Electric Ice Cream Maker, 1QT Freezer Bowl, Blue ICM110BL — Best Quart

The largest batch on the page, the only stated wattage, a 1-year warranty and the biggest bowl machine.
Key Specifications
| Capacity | 1 quart (title and bullet); size field 1 Liter |
|---|---|
| Pre-freeze | Freeze the bowl overnight |
| Churn time | Not given; “in just a few minutes” |
| Power | 15W, stated |
| Makes | Ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt |
| Listed dimensions | 8.6 x 7.1 x 7.9 in |
| Listed weight | 4.70 pounds |
| Storage | All parts store inside the machine |
| Warranty | 1 year, materials and workmanship |
| Seller | Supersaver |
| Best Sellers Rank | #39,155 overall; #40 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
This is the biggest batch a small machine here will make. The title says “1QT Freezer Bowl” and the bullets say “The 1-quart capacity provides just the perfect amount of servings for family and friends.” A quart is 32 US fluid ounces, about 946 millilitres, our conversion: four Dash mugs, two Elite pints. The size field disagrees slightly, at “1 Liter”, which is about 1.06 quarts. The difference is small, and both figures describe a bowl for several people rather than one.
That makes the freeze clock cheaper per serving. Every bowl here needs its day or night in the freezer whether it makes a half pint or a quart. One overnight freeze on the OVENTE produces as much as four on a single Dash mug. If you are feeding three or four people, that matters more than any difference in churn speed, because the wait is the same and the yield is not. The listing gives the freeze as “simply freeze the bowl overnight”, with no hours, and the churn as “in just a few minutes”, with no minutes.
It is the only listing with a stated wattage, and one of two with a warranty. “This 15W ice cream maker comes with a convenient freezable bowl”. Fifteen watts is very little power, which is normal for a freezer-bowl machine: the paddle only stirs, and the cold comes from the bowl. The warranty is spelled out: OVENTE “warranties that the product shall be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and conditions, for 1 year from the original purchase date.” The only other stated warranty on the page is the Whynter’s one-year limited warranty.
It is also the largest bowl machine. The spec fields give 8.6 by 7.1 by 7.9 inches and 4.70 pounds. That is about 61 square inches of counter, our arithmetic, nearly twice the Funlo or Snowlie. A quart bowl takes more freezer space too, and the listing gives no separate bowl dimensions. “It only takes up minimal countertop and cupboard space. All parts can be stored neatly inside the machine when not in use.” Except the bowl, which wants to live in the freezer.
What to weigh. It is sold by Supersaver and ranks #39,155 overall and #40 in Ice Cream Machines. The listing suggests “strawberry ice cream, lemon sorbet, raspberry frozen yogurt, vanilla custard and more”. If small means a machine for a small family rather than for one person, this is the one; check that a quart bowl fits your freezer before you buy.
Pros
- Largest stated batch: 1 quart
- 1-year warranty, one of two stated
- Only stated wattage: 15W
- Full dimensions and weight listed
- Parts store inside the machine
- One freeze makes four half-pint servings
Cons
- Largest bowl machine, about 61 sq in
- Freeze given only as overnight
- Churn time vague: “a few minutes”
- Size field says 1 Liter, title says 1 quart
- Bowl dimensions not stated
- Third-party seller
Best for: A small family that wants a quart per freeze, a written warranty and full dimensions.

| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Model | DMIC10005 |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #39,723 overall; #41 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
This is the same Dash My Mug idea, with a Disney character and a single mug. The title calls it a “Single Serve Half-Pint Stitch Mug with Ingredient Chute & Recipe Guide”, and the bullets repeat the Dash two-pack’s claims almost word for word: “Soft Serve in About 20 Minutes”, a “Built-In Ingredient Chute”, “then eat right from the Stitch Mug” and the SmartStore nesting design. It is made by the same company, StoreBound, under the same brand.
The freeze time has dropped out of the copy. The two-pack listing says each mug “chills 24 to 48 hours”. This listing says only “freeze the Stitch Mug, add chilled ingredients, and churn with one touch”. If the mug is the same design, the same 24 to 48 hours is a reasonable expectation, but that is our inference from a different listing, not a statement on this one. Plan as though the mug needs a full day.
One mug means one batch per freeze. The box contents are spelled out: “a freezer Mug, Motor with Lid, Stirring Paddle, and Recipe Guide”. With one half-pint mug and a freeze of up to two days, the Stitch makes about 8 US fluid ounces at a time, our conversion, and then waits. That is fine for a child’s treat or a single serving after dinner, and it is the trade-off the two-pack exists to solve. A spare mug is not offered on this listing.
It is light and small, though how small is not stated. The listed weight is 2.6 pounds, a little more than half the two-pack’s 4.81, which fits one mug and one motor. No dimensions are given. The design is what you are paying attention to here: “A special edition Disney Stitch small Ice Cream Maker” in “Disney Stitch Blue”, pitched as a “Great Disney Stitch Gift” for birthdays and holidays.
What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #39,723 overall and #41 in Ice Cream Machines, a long way behind the plain two-pack at #315. No warranty or wattage is stated. Buy it as a gift for a fan who will enjoy one half-pint at a time; buy the two-pack if the goal is ice cream more than once every day or two.
Pros
- Churn time stated: about 20 minutes
- Box contents listed in full
- Ingredient chute for mix-ins
- Eat straight from the mug
- Light at 2.6 lb listed
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Freeze time not stated on this listing
- One half-pint mug per freeze
- No dimensions stated
- No spare mug offered
- No warranty or wattage stated
- Ranks far behind the plain two-pack
Best for: A Disney fan, or a child, who wants a single half-pint serving and does not mind a day’s wait between batches.
8. BLACK+DECKER Perfect Pint Ice Cream Maker for Protein Recipes, IC002-21BD — Best for Protein Recipes

No freezer bowl at all: you freeze the mix itself, and it lists 18.6 lb, second only to the Whynter.
Key Specifications
| Capacity | Pint, by name and bullets; no figure stated |
|---|---|
| Method | Prep, freeze and spin; Re-Spin Technology |
| Pre-freeze | Ingredients are frozen first; time not stated |
| Churn or spin time | Not stated |
| Makes | Ice cream, gelato, sorbet, frozen yogurt, milkshakes |
| Recipes named | High-protein, keto, dairy-free, low-sugar |
| Listed weight | 18.6 pounds |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Model | IC002-21BD; Spectrum Brands |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #9,137 overall; #8 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
This machine changes which thing goes in the freezer. Every other machine here except the compressor-driven Whynter freezes an empty bowl or mug and churns a liquid mix inside it. The BLACK+DECKER describes an “EASY 3-STEP PROCESS : Simply prep, freeze and spin”, with “Re-Spin Technology that transforms frozen ingredients into smooth, creamy desserts without icy or grainy textures”. You freeze the mix itself, then the machine processes the frozen block. There is no bowl to keep cold, but there is still a freeze, and the listing does not say how long it takes.
It is not small by weight. The spec field gives 18.6 pounds. That is about seven times the Stitch and four times the OVENTE, by our arithmetic; only the Whynter, which carries its own compressor, is heavier. No dimensions are stated. If small means easy to lift into a cupboard, this is the wrong machine. If small means one pint at a time, it fits: the name is “Perfect Pint” and a bullet is headed “CUSTOMIZE EVERY PINT”, though no capacity figure appears in the spec fields.
Its pitch is the recipe, not the size. The title says “for Protein Recipes”, and the second bullet is “PROTEIN, KETO & DAIRY-FREE FRIENDLY : Create high-protein ice cream, keto-friendly treats, dairy-free desserts and low-sugar recipes using ingredients you choose.” Mixes like those often freeze hard and icy in a bowl machine, which is the problem the re-spin approach is designed to address. It also lists milkshakes, which none of the bowl machines claim. Our protein ice cream maker guide covers this style of machine in more depth.
The clock is still there, just moved. Freezing a block of mix solid takes time, as freezing a bowl does, and the listing gives no figure for it. What changes is what you can prepare ahead: several pints of mix can freeze side by side, if you have the containers, rather than one bowl at a time. The listing does not say whether extra pint containers are included or sold separately.
What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #9,137 overall and #8 in Ice Cream Machines, the second-best rank on the page. No warranty, wattage or dimensions are stated. Buy it for protein, keto or dairy-free pints; do not buy it for a small footprint.
Pros
- No freezer bowl to keep frozen
- Protein, keto, dairy-free and low-sugar named
- Re-Spin for smoother texture, stated
- Milkshakes listed too
- Second-best rank here: #8 in category
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- 18.6 lb listed, second-heaviest here
- No capacity figure; pint by name only
- Freeze time for the mix not stated
- No spin time stated
- No dimensions stated
- Extra pint containers not mentioned
Best for: A protein, keto or dairy-free cook who wants pint batches and has the counter and cupboard room for an 18.6 lb machine.
9. Small Home Mini Ice Cream Maker (Applicable to 110V-120V), Pink — Watch-Through Lid

A transparent lid, a stated voltage and a listed weight, and none of the three numbers this guide sorts by.
Key Specifications
| Capacity | Not stated |
|---|---|
| Pre-freeze | Not stated |
| Churn time | Not stated |
| Makes | Ice cream, sorbet, gelato, yogurt |
| Mix-ins | Transparent lid; add during mixing |
| Voltage | 110V–120V, stated |
| Listed weight | 3.5 pounds |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Model | CBIDF798; part number CBIDF7979; brand Generic |
| Stock | In stock, flagged scarce at capture |
| Seller | Tianbo stor |
| Best Sellers Rank | #36,680 overall; #36 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
This listing does not say whether anything needs freezing. The bullets talk about cold in general terms: “The cream ice cream maker helps cool ingredients evenly so desserts form faster”, under a heading of “Fast Freezing & Visible Mixing”. The operating instructions are “simply add ingredients and press start”. There is no freezer bowl named, no freeze time, no churn time and no capacity. A machine this size, with no stated compressor, almost certainly relies on a pre-frozen bowl like the others, but the listing does not say so, and that is the most important thing a small ice cream maker buyer needs to know.
What it does state is unusual. It is the only listing on the page with a voltage: “Applicable to 110V-120V”, in the title, which tells you it is wired for North American outlets. The listed weight is 3.5 pounds. The “transparent lid lets you watch the mixing process and add nuts, chocolate or fruit while blending”, which is useful on any bowl machine, because the moment the mix thickens is the moment to add mix-ins and the moment to stop.
The copy reads like a template. Its bullets closely match the other Small Home listing on this page, from “Visible Mixing” to “Custom Recipe Control” to the space-saving pitch for “apartments, dorm kitchens or small countertops”. The brand and manufacturer fields both say “Generic”, and the model and part numbers differ by a digit: CBIDF798 and CBIDF7979. It suggests “low-sugar desserts, dairy-free treats or fruit sorbets”, without numbers.
It is selling despite the gaps. It ranks #36,680 overall and #36 in Ice Cream Machines, ahead of the OVENTE, the Stitch, the Funlo and the Snowlie, all of which tell you far more. Stock was flagged as scarce at capture, the only listing here so marked. The seller is Tianbo stor.
What to weigh. No warranty, wattage, capacity, freeze or churn time is stated. If you like the look and the lid, ask the seller three questions before ordering: how much does it make, does the bowl need freezing, and for how long. The Funlo and Snowlie answer all three on the page.
Pros
- Only stated voltage: 110–120V
- Transparent lid for watching the churn
- Add mix-ins while blending
- Listed weight given: 3.5 lb
- Removable paddle for cleaning
- #36 in Ice Cream Machines
Cons
- No capacity stated
- Does not say whether the bowl needs freezing
- No freeze or churn time
- No dimensions stated
- Stock flagged scarce at capture
- Generic brand; copy shared with another listing
Best for: A buyer who wants a small machine with a see-through lid and is willing to get the capacity and freeze time from the seller.
10. Small Home Mini Ice Cream Maker, Personal Ice Cream Maker with One-Touch Control, Blue — Dual-Layer Bowl

A dual-layer bowl and a transparent lid, and no capacity, size, weight, freeze or churn time.
Key Specifications
| Capacity | Not stated |
|---|---|
| Bowl | Dual-layer, stated |
| Pre-freeze | Not stated |
| Churn time | Not stated |
| Makes | Ice cream, ice cream cakes, frozen yogurt, gelato, sorbet |
| Mix-ins | Transparent lid; add during mixing |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Weight | Not stated |
| Model | SSIELEDCI-6E317907; brand Generic |
| Seller | DONHAO-US |
| Best Sellers Rank | #83,052 overall; #66 in Ice Cream Machines |
Why We Recommend It
This is the least documented machine on the page. It states no capacity, no dimensions, no weight, no freeze time and no churn time. The one construction detail is the bowl: “Our dual-layer ice cream bowl ensures even cooling of ingredients for quicker dessert preparation”. A dual-layer bowl is how freezer-bowl machines work, with a cooling liquid sealed between two walls, so this listing at least hints at the method. It never says the bowl must be frozen, or for how long.
It shares its copy with the pink Small Home. “Rapid Freezing & Visible Mixing”, “Customizable Recipes”, “Easy to Clean & Maintain” and “Space-Saving Design” follow the same order and nearly the same words as the other Small Home listing. Neither says whether the two are the same machine in different colours. This one adds the dual-layer bowl and “ice cream cakes” to the list of things it makes; the other adds a voltage and a weight.
The transparent lid is the practical feature. “The transparent lid allows you to monitor the mixing process and conveniently add your favorite nuts, chocolate, or fruits”. On a small bowl machine, watching the mix matters, because the bowl’s cold runs out: once the mix stops thickening, more churning will not help. Being able to see that moment is worth more than a timer you do not have.
Small is asserted, not measured. “This compact kitchen ice cream maker is ideal for small spaces, making it easy to fit into apartments, dorms, or limited countertop areas”. Without a single dimension, you cannot check that claim against your counter or your freezer. The size field reads “One Size” and the colour field “Blue2”.
What to weigh. It is sold by DONHAO-US and ranks #83,052 overall and #66 in Ice Cream Machines, the lowest rank on the page. No warranty or wattage is stated. Buy it only after the seller tells you the capacity and the freeze time; until then, the Funlo and Snowlie are better-documented machines of what appears to be a similar size.
Pros
- Dual-layer bowl, stated
- Transparent lid for watching the mix
- Add mix-ins during churning
- Detachable paddle and parts
- Ice cream cakes and sorbet named
- One-touch control
Cons
- No capacity stated
- No freeze or churn time
- No dimensions or weight stated
- Generic brand; copy shared with another listing
- Lowest rank on the page
- Third-party seller
Best for: A buyer drawn to the dual-layer bowl and clear lid who will confirm capacity and freeze time with the seller first.
Two Clocks: the Freeze You Plan and the Churn You Watch
Every freezer-bowl machine works the same way. A bowl with a cooling liquid sealed in its walls is frozen solid. The mix goes in, a small motor turns a paddle, and the bowl’s stored cold freezes the mix while the paddle stops it setting into ice. The motor does almost nothing; the OVENTE’s stated 15W is enough. The freezer does nearly all the work, and it does it the day before. Here is each listing’s clock as stated.
| Machine | Pre-freeze stated | Churn stated | Wait to churn ratio (ours) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dash My Mug 2-Pack | 24 to 48 hours | About 20 min | About 72 to 144 to 1 |
| Funlo | 24 hours minimum; 48 recommended | 25–30 min | About 48 to 115 to 1 |
| Snowlie | 12 hours at 0°F | 15–25 min | About 29 to 48 to 1 |
| Elite Gourmet | Overnight | “A short time” | — |
| OVENTE | Overnight | “Just a few minutes” | — |
| Whynter | None; built-in compressor | Not stated | — |
| Disney Dash Stitch | Not stated | About 20 min | — |
| BLACK+DECKER | Mix is frozen; time not stated | Not stated | — |
| Small Home Mini | Not stated | Not stated | — |
| Small Home Personal | Not stated | Not stated | — |
Three listings give hours, and they disagree by a factor of two. Snowlie says at least 12. Dash and Funlo say at least 24, and both go to 48. We cannot tell from the listings whether the Snowlie bowl genuinely freezes faster, or whether its maker is assuming a colder freezer: it is the only one that names 0°F. Either way, the honest planning figure for a freezer-bowl machine on this page is a full day.
“Overnight” is the weakest claim on the page. Two listings use it, and a night in the freezer can be eight hours or fourteen. Set against the 24-hour minimums that Dash and Funlo give for vessels of similar size, overnight looks optimistic. Read it as the least time to expect, not a promise of success.
Churn times are short and close together. Where a number is given, it runs from 15 to 30 minutes: about 20 on both Dash listings, 15 to 25 on the Snowlie, 25 to 30 on the Funlo. Nothing here churns slowly enough to matter. The OVENTE’s “just a few minutes” and the Elite’s “short time” are vaguer, and should be read as the same order of magnitude.
The ratio is why a second bowl beats a faster machine. Shaving five minutes off a 20-minute churn saves five minutes. A second frozen bowl or mug saves a full day. That is why the best-ranked product on the page is a two-mug bundle, and why the one machine that needs no freeze at all is worth its bulk to some buyers. If you want to skip the clock entirely, a compressor machine freezes as it churns: the Whynter here does it in 0.5 quart batches, at 24.25 pounds and about 152 square inches of counter, our arithmetic.

Half a Pint to a Quart: What Each Batch Actually Makes
The second number a small ice cream maker buyer needs is how much each freeze produces. Stated capacities here run from a half pint per mug to a full quart, and three listings give none. All conversions below are our arithmetic, in US measures.
| Machine | Capacity as stated | In US fl oz (ours) | In mL (ours) | Vessel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dash My Mug 2-Pack | Half-pint per mug, 2 mugs | 8 per mug | About 237 per mug | Freezer mug, eat from it |
| Disney Dash Stitch | Half-pint | 8 | About 237 | Freezer mug, eat from it |
| Funlo | 500 mL | About 16.9 | 500 | Freezer bowl |
| Elite Gourmet | 1 pint | 16 | About 473 | Freezing mug, eat from it |
| Whynter | 0.5 quart | 16 | About 473 | Rolled ice cream pan, compressor-chilled |
| BLACK+DECKER | Pint by name; no figure | — | — | Frozen pint of mix |
| OVENTE | 1 quart (size field 1 Liter) | 32 | About 946 | Freezer bowl |
| Snowlie | Not stated | — | — | Freezer bowl |
| Small Home Mini | Not stated | — | — | Not stated |
| Small Home Personal | Not stated | — | — | Dual-layer bowl |
A half pint is one serving, a pint is two, a quart is a family. The listings say as much: Dash says “soft serve for two” from one half-pint mug, Elite and OVENTE both call their capacity “just the perfect amount of servings for family and friends”, though one is a pint and the other a quart. For the best single serve ice cream maker, the half-pint mugs and the 500 mL Funlo are the honest single-serve sizes. For the best pint ice cream maker, the Elite Gourmet is the pint in every field.
Stated capacity may not be what you pour in. None of the listings says whether its figure is the volume of the bowl, the volume of mix to add, or the volume of finished dessert. Churned ice cream takes in air and grows as it freezes, so the mix you add is usually less than the bowl holds; many makers advise leaving room at the top. Without a fill line on the listing, treat each stated capacity as an upper limit.
The clock makes capacity matter more. Every freezer bowl here needs the same day in the freezer whatever its size. One freeze on the OVENTE gives four times what one freeze on a Dash mug gives. If you are feeding more than two people, the quart is the only stated option on this page that does it in one freeze; the alternative is several half-pint or pint vessels frozen in parallel.
Footprint on the Counter, Footprint in the Freezer
A small ice cream maker has two footprints. One is on the counter, where it sits for half an hour. The other is in the freezer, where its bowl or mug sits for a day or more, and possibly lives permanently so it is always ready. Listings state the first more often than the second.
| Machine | Stated dimensions | Base area (ours) | Listed weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snowlie | 5.6 x 5.6 x 6.5 in | About 31.4 sq in | About 2.4 lb |
| Funlo | 5.63 x 5.63 x 6.5 in | About 31.7 sq in | Not stated |
| OVENTE | 8.6 x 7.1 x 7.9 in | About 61.1 sq in | 4.70 lb |
| Dash My Mug 2-Pack | 13.5 x 7.48 x 5.39 in | About 101 sq in, likely the bundle | 4.81 lb |
| Whynter | 14.25 x 10.7 x 9.6 in | About 152.5 sq in | 24.25 lb |
| Disney Dash Stitch | Not stated | — | 2.6 lb |
| Small Home Mini | Not stated | — | 3.5 lb |
| BLACK+DECKER | Not stated | — | 18.6 lb |
| Elite Gourmet | Not stated | — | Not stated |
| Small Home Personal | Not stated | — | Not stated |
Five give dimensions; five do not. The smallest stated machines, the Snowlie and the Funlo, take up about 31 square inches, roughly the area of a side plate. The OVENTE needs about twice that for a quart bowl. The Dash figure almost certainly describes the two-mug bundle. The Whynter, with its compressor, needs about 152 square inches and weighs 24.25 pounds, the cost of leaving the freezer out. The Elite, the Stitch, the two Small Homes and the BLACK+DECKER leave you to measure on arrival, and the BLACK+DECKER’s 18.6 pounds suggests a machine of a different class altogether.
No listing gives the size of the part that goes in the freezer. None of the bowl machines states its bowl dimensions, so the base is the best guide: the Funlo and Snowlie stand about 5.6 inches square, and their bowls cannot be much wider. A pint freezer bowl needs a flat space at least that size; a quart bowl like the OVENTE’s will need more, and the Dash two-pack needs room for two mugs. The bowl has to sit level while it freezes, or the cooling liquid in its walls can settle unevenly.
The freezer has to be cold enough, too. Snowlie is the only listing to name a temperature, 0°F. A bowl frozen at a warmer setting holds less cold and will run out of it sooner in the churn. If your freezer is the small compartment inside a compact fridge, check its stated temperature before you rely on it; our mini fridge with freezer guide looks at which ones say what. If the kitchen freezer is full, a small dedicated freezer is one answer, and our small chest freezer roundup sets out the options.

Mugs, Bowls, a Frozen Pint and a Compressor: Four Ways to Be Small
The ten machines here use four different designs, and each puts the freeze in a different place, or nowhere.
- Freezer mugs you eat from: the Dash two-pack, the Disney Dash Stitch and the Elite Gourmet. The vessel that freezes is the one you churn in and the one you eat from. The upside is one item to wash and no scooping. The downside is that one mug is one batch per freeze, which is why the two-pack exists.
- Freezer bowls under a motor lid: the Funlo, the Snowlie, the OVENTE and the Small Home Personal’s dual-layer bowl. You scoop the result out. The Funlo, Snowlie and both Small Homes add a clear lid or chute for watching and adding mix-ins. Bowl size runs from about a pint to a quart where stated.
- A frozen pint of mix: the BLACK+DECKER. No bowl to pre-freeze; the mix itself is frozen and then spun. That moves the freeze, it does not remove it, and the machine is far heavier than the bowl machines.
- A built-in compressor: the Whynter. No pre-freeze; its listing says a compressor chills the mixture as it churns, on a pan sold for Thai-style rolled ice cream, so batch after batch is possible. The cost is 24.25 pounds and the largest footprint here.
The Small Home Mini is the one listing that does not tell you which design it is. Its copy talks about cooling and freezing without naming a freezer bowl or a freeze time. Its sibling listing names a dual-layer bowl, which points to the second design, but that is an inference.
None of the bowl machines makes hard-scoop ice cream straight from the machine. A freezer bowl’s cold runs out within the churn, so what comes out is soft serve or a soft set. Dash calls its result soft serve; Snowlie says to put the finished dessert in the freezer for a firmer consistency. If soft serve is what you want, our soft serve ice cream maker guide covers machines built for it. For tangy frozen yogurt in particular, see our frozen yogurt ice cream maker guide.
Popularity Follows the Second Mug
Star ratings were not captured for this roundup, so the only popularity measure here is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank, as returned on 5 October 2026. Ranks move constantly. All ten are ranked in Ice Cream Machines.
| Machine | Overall rank | Category rank | Pre-freeze stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dash My Mug 2-Pack | #315 | #2 in Ice Cream Machines | 24 to 48 hours |
| BLACK+DECKER | #9,137 | #8 in Ice Cream Machines | Not stated |
| Elite Gourmet | #13,389 | #16 in Ice Cream Machines | Overnight |
| Whynter | #17,139 | #17 in Ice Cream Machines | None needed |
| Small Home Mini | #36,680 | #36 in Ice Cream Machines | Not stated |
| OVENTE | #39,155 | #40 in Ice Cream Machines | Overnight |
| Disney Dash Stitch | #39,723 | #41 in Ice Cream Machines | Not stated |
| Funlo | #47,153 | #44 in Ice Cream Machines | 24 hours; 48 recommended |
| Snowlie | #62,538 | #52 in Ice Cream Machines | 12 hours |
| Small Home Personal | #83,052 | #66 in Ice Cream Machines | Not stated |
The leader is the product that sells its way around the freeze. The Dash two-pack, at #315 overall, is about 29 times better ranked than the next product on the page, our arithmetic. Its distinguishing feature is not capacity or speed but a second mug. The single-mug Stitch edition, with the same churn claim and the same maker, sits at #39,723. Whatever else drives those numbers, the bundle that lets you keep one mug frozen at all times is the one shoppers pick most.
Documentation does not track rank. The Funlo and Snowlie, the two listings that state capacity or freeze in the most detail, rank eighth and ninth. The Small Home Mini, which states none of the three numbers this guide sorts by, ranks fifth. The Whynter, the one machine that needs no freeze, ranks fourth. On this page, a buyer reading only the rank would learn nothing about the clock.
Best Alternatives
| Alternative | Why Consider It | Better For | Main Trade-Off |
|---|---|---|---|
| A larger compressor ice cream maker | Freezes as it churns, like the Whynter, in bigger batches | Batches on demand, back to back | Larger and heavier again than the Whynter |
| A two-quart freezer-bowl machine | Same method, twice the OVENTE’s batch | Families and parties | A bigger bowl to fit in the freezer |
| A spare freezer bowl or mug for your machine | Removes the wait for a second batch | Anyone who already owns a bowl machine | More freezer space, and only fits one model |
| A frozen-pint processor like the BLACK+DECKER | No bowl; several pints can freeze side by side | Protein, keto and dairy-free recipes | Heavy, and the mix still needs freezing |
What Each Step Up Actually Buys
The half-pint mugs — Dash two-pack and Disney Dash Stitch. About 8 fluid ounces per freeze, our conversion, eaten straight from the mug, with a stated churn of about 20 minutes. The two-pack buys a second mug and the stated 24 to 48 hour freeze; the Stitch buys the character design, a lighter single unit at 2.6 pounds, and loses the freeze time from its listing.
The pint class — Funlo and Elite Gourmet. About twice the half-pint. The Funlo buys the most complete set of stated numbers on the page and the smallest stated footprint; the Elite buys a pint mug you eat from, sold by Amazon.com, with recipes. The Snowlie probably belongs here by size, but does not state a capacity.
The quart — OVENTE. Four times the half-pint and twice the pint per freeze, with the only stated wattage and a 1-year warranty. The cost is about twice the counter space of the smallest machines and a bigger bowl in the freezer.
The compressor — Whynter. A pint-sized 0.5 quart batch with no pre-freeze at all, batch after batch by its listing, and a one-year limited warranty. The cost is 24.25 pounds and about 152 square inches of counter, our arithmetic, the most on the page on both counts.
The different method — BLACK+DECKER. No bowl to keep frozen and recipes aimed at protein, keto and dairy-free mixes, at 18.6 pounds listed. It buys a different texture approach and the ability to freeze several pints of mix at once, not a smaller machine.
The unknowns — the two Small Homes. Clear lids and, on one, a dual-layer bowl, with no capacity, freeze or churn time. They buy a look and a lid; everything else you will have to ask for.

Three listings give hours: 12 on the Snowlie, 24 to 48 on the Dash two-pack, and 24 minimum with 48 recommended on the Funlo. Two say overnight, four say nothing, and the Whynter’s compressor needs no freeze at all. If a listing does not give hours, plan for a full day, which is the minimum the two most detailed listings ask for vessels of a similar size.
Decide Whether You Need a Second Bowl or Mug
With one frozen vessel, you get one batch every day or two. If that is not enough, buy a two-mug bundle like the Dash, or a spare bowl for your model where the maker sells one, and keep one frozen at all times. Or skip the freeze with a compressor machine like the Whynter. A second bowl saves a day; a faster churn saves minutes.
Match the Capacity to the Number of People
A half pint, 8 fluid ounces by our conversion, is one generous serving or two small ones. A pint or 500 mL suits two people. A quart, the OVENTE, suits a small family in one freeze. Three listings state no capacity at all; ask before you order.
Measure Your Freezer, Not Just Your Counter
The bowl lives in the freezer for a day or more. No listing here gives bowl dimensions. Leave a flat, level space a little larger than the machine’s stated base, larger for a quart bowl, and room for two vessels if you buy a bundle.
Check That Your Freezer Reaches 0°F
Snowlie is the only listing to name a freezer temperature, and the figure applies to every bowl here: a warmer freezer stores less cold in the bowl. Small fridge-top compartments may not reach it. If the bowl feels only cool rather than hard-frozen, the batch will not set.
Read Every Field on the Listing
The OVENTE says 1 quart and 1 Liter. The BLACK+DECKER is called Perfect Pint and gives no capacity figure. Funlo’s brand field says BINK WATER BOTTLE, and Snowlie’s says Askbp. The Whynter calls itself compact and lists 24.25 pounds. Two minutes reading the spec fields saves a return.
Expect Soft Serve, Then Firm It Up
Freezer-bowl machines finish soft because the bowl’s cold runs out. Dash calls its result soft serve, and Snowlie advises putting the finished dessert in the freezer for a firmer set. If you want scoopable ice cream, plan an hour or two in the freezer after the churn, and add that to the clock.
Common Mistakes
- Reading the churn time as the wait. The Dash churns in about 20 minutes after a 24 to 48 hour freeze, 72 to 144 times as long by our arithmetic.
- Trusting “overnight”. Two listings say it; Dash and Funlo ask for at least 24 hours for vessels of similar size.
- Buying one mug for daily ice cream. One half-pint mug and a day-long freeze give about 8 fl oz per day, our conversion.
- Calling a machine small because its batch is. The Whynter makes 0.5 quart but lists 24.25 lb and about 152 sq in of base, our arithmetic.
- Forgetting the freezer footprint. No listing here gives bowl dimensions; allow at least the machine’s base, more for a quart bowl.
- Freezing the bowl in a warm compartment. Snowlie specifies 0°F; a warmer freezer stores less cold in the bowl.
- Assuming a pint name means a stated pint. The BLACK+DECKER Perfect Pint gives no capacity figure and lists 18.6 lb.
- Taking capacity as the fill line. No listing says whether its figure is the bowl, the mix or the finished dessert; leave room for the mix to grow.
Who Should Buy Which
Buy the Dash My Mug two-pack if you want small batches often. It states both clocks, a 24 to 48 hour freeze and about 20 minutes of churn, and gives you two half-pint mugs so one can always be frozen. Sold by Amazon.com, #315 overall. Accept half a pint per batch and two mugs in the freezer.
Buy the Funlo if you want every number on the listing. 500 mL, a 24 to 48 hour freeze, a 25 to 30 minute churn and a 5.63 inch square base, all stated. Accept the longest stated wait, a mismatched brand field and a third-party seller.
Buy the Snowlie if you want the shortest stated freeze. 12 hours at 0°F, 15 to 25 minutes of churn, about 2.4 lb and a footprint matching the Funlo. Ask for the capacity, which the listing omits.
Buy the Elite Gourmet Pint Perfect if you want a stated pint from Amazon.com. A pint mug you eat from, recipes included, #16 in Ice Cream Machines. Accept an overnight freeze with no hours, and no stated size or churn time.
Buy the OVENTE if you are feeding a small family. A quart per freeze, full dimensions, 15W and a 1-year warranty. Accept about twice the footprint of the smallest machines and a larger bowl in the freezer.
Buy the Whynter if you want to skip the pre-freeze. A built-in compressor, 0.5 quart batches one after another, a one-year limited warranty, sold by Amazon.com. Accept 24.25 lb, about 152 sq in of counter and no stated churn time.
Buy the Disney Dash Stitch as a gift for a fan. The Dash mug design with a character finish, about 20 minutes of churn, one half-pint mug. Accept one batch per freeze and a listing that omits the freeze time.
Buy the BLACK+DECKER Perfect Pint for protein, keto or dairy-free pints. No freezer bowl, Re-Spin processing of a frozen mix, #8 in Ice Cream Machines. Accept 18.6 lb listed and no stated capacity, freeze or spin time.
Buy the pink Small Home Mini only after the seller confirms capacity and freeze time. It has a clear lid, a stated 110–120V and a 3.5 lb weight, and stock was scarce at capture.
Buy the blue Small Home Personal only on the same terms. A dual-layer bowl and a clear lid, with no capacity, size, weight, freeze or churn time on the listing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best small ice cream maker?
For most people, the Dash My Mug Ice Cream Maker two-pack. It is the only complete machine on this page that states both the churn time, about 20 minutes, and the freeze time for its vessel, 24 to 48 hours, and it solves the slow part by giving you two half-pint freezer mugs, so one can stay frozen while you use the other. You churn and eat from the same mug, a chute takes mix-ins, and it is sold by Amazon.com. It also holds the best Best Sellers Rank here by a wide margin, #315 overall and #2 in Ice Cream Machines. Its limits are batch size, a half pint each, and freezer space for two mugs. If you want a pint per batch, the Elite Gourmet Pint Perfect states one; for a quart, the OVENTE is the only option here.
What is the best single serve ice cream maker?
For a true single serving, the half-pint Dash mugs and the 500 mL Funlo are the honest sizes on this page. The Dash two-pack makes about 8 US fluid ounces per mug, by our conversion, churns in about 20 minutes and lets you eat from the mug. The Funlo makes 500 mL, about 16.9 fluid ounces, and its listing is the most complete here, stating capacity, a 24 to 48 hour freeze, a 25 to 30 minute churn and a 5.63 inch square footprint. The Disney Dash Stitch is the single-mug version of the Dash, aimed at gifts. The Snowlie is sold as a personal machine with the shortest stated freeze, 12 hours, but does not state a capacity. Whichever you choose, one frozen vessel gives one serving per freeze, so plan a day between batches unless you buy a second mug or bowl.
What is the best pint ice cream maker?
The Elite Gourmet Americana Pint Perfect is the clearest pint on this page: 1 pint in the title, the bullets and the size field, a freezing mug you eat from, recipes included, and sold by Amazon.com. Its listing gives the freeze only as overnight and states no dimensions, weight or churn time. The Funlo, at 500 mL, is slightly more than a US pint by our conversion and states far more detail. The BLACK+DECKER Perfect Pint works differently: you freeze the mix itself and the machine re-spins it, which suits protein, keto and dairy-free recipes, but it lists 18.6 pounds and gives no capacity figure despite its name. The Whynter makes 0.5 quart, a pint, with its own compressor and no pre-freeze, but lists 24.25 pounds.
How long do you freeze the bowl of a small ice cream maker?
On this page, from 12 hours to 48, where a figure is given. Snowlie asks for at least 12 hours at 0°F, the shortest stated freeze and the only one with a temperature. Dash says each mug chills 24 to 48 hours. Funlo says at least 24 hours, with 48 recommended for better performance. The OVENTE and the Elite Gourmet say overnight, which can mean anything from eight hours to fourteen. The Whynter needs no freeze; its compressor chills the mix as it churns. The Disney Dash Stitch and both Small Home listings give no time at all, and the BLACK+DECKER freezes the mix rather than a bowl without saying for how long. As a rule, plan for a full day, keep the bowl level while it freezes, and make sure it is frozen hard before you start. A bowl that is only cold will not set the mix.
Can I make two batches in a row with a small ice cream maker?
Not with one bowl or mug. A freezer bowl stores a fixed amount of cold, and one batch uses it up. Refreezing takes the same 12 to 48 hours the listings state for the first freeze, or overnight where that is all they say. The way round it is a second frozen vessel. The Dash My Mug two-pack is built for exactly this, with its listing saying to freeze both mugs so one is always ready. A spare bowl, where your machine’s maker sells one, does the same job. The BLACK+DECKER Perfect Pint avoids the bowl entirely, so several pints of mix can freeze side by side if you have the containers. For true back-to-back batches with no freezing, the Whynter on this page has its own compressor and promises batch after batch, at 24.25 pounds listed.
Will a small ice cream maker bowl fit in a mini fridge freezer?
It depends on the space and the temperature, and most listings here do not give you the bowl size. The smallest machines here stand about 5.6 inches square, so allow at least that much flat space for a pint vessel, more for the OVENTE’s quart bowl, and double the space for a two-mug bundle like the Dash. Temperature matters as much as space. Snowlie asks for 0°F, and a bowl frozen in a warmer compartment stores less cold and will run out sooner during the churn. Many compact fridges have a small freezer section that is not designed to hold a deep-frozen bowl for long, so check its stated temperature before relying on it. If the bowl comes out cool rather than hard-frozen, the mix will not set properly.
Do small ice cream makers make hard or soft ice cream?
Soft, straight from the machine. A freezer bowl has only so much stored cold, and it runs out during the churn, so the mix finishes as soft serve or a soft set rather than hard-scoop ice cream. Dash calls its result soft serve outright. Snowlie is the only listing that says what to do next: for a firmer consistency, put the finished dessert in the freezer until it reaches your preferred texture. That applies to every bowl machine here. In practice, an hour or two in a container in the freezer turns soft serve into something you can scoop. The BLACK+DECKER Perfect Pint works differently, processing an already frozen pint, and it describes its results as scoopable; it gives no time for the freeze or the spin. If soft serve is what you actually want, a small freezer-bowl machine is well suited to it.
Is a half pint, pint or quart ice cream maker right for me?
Match it to how many people eat per freeze, because every bowl here needs the same day in the freezer whatever its size. A half pint is 8 US fluid ounces, about 237 millilitres by our conversion: one generous serving or two small ones, which is what the Dash and Stitch mugs make. A pint, or the Funlo’s 500 mL, suits two people; the Elite Gourmet states a pint. A quart, 32 fluid ounces, suits three or four, and the OVENTE is the only quart here. Remember that no listing says whether its capacity is the bowl, the mix you add or the finished dessert, and churned mix grows as it takes in air, so treat each figure as an upper limit. If you want more than one batch a day in any size, budget for a second bowl or mug.
Final Verdict
Both clocks stated, 24 to 48 hours and about 20 minutes, with a second half-pint mug so one is always frozen; #315 overall.
A pint in every field, a mug you eat from, recipes included, sold by Amazon.com and #16 in Ice Cream Machines.
Four half-pints per freeze, full dimensions, 15W and a 1-year warranty.
Ten small ice cream makers sell a short churn, and the churn is the short part. Where a churn time is stated, it runs from 15 to 30 minutes. Where a freeze time is stated, it runs from 12 to 48 hours, and four of the ten listings never give one. By our arithmetic, the wait is 29 to 144 times as long as the churn on the three listings that state both.
So plan around the freezer, not the motor. Look for a freeze time in hours, and treat overnight as the least you should expect. Match the capacity, from a half pint to a quart here, to the number of people per freeze. Check that the bowl fits flat in your freezer and that the freezer reaches 0°F. And if you want more than one batch every day or two, buy a second bowl or mug, which saves a day where a faster churn saves minutes.
The market already agrees. The best-ranked product on the page, by a factor of about 29 overall, is the one that sells a second mug. The one machine that needs no freeze, the compressor-driven Whynter, ranks fourth despite being the heaviest and largest here. Both answer the clock that the other listings mostly leave out.
If you buy one small ice cream maker from this page, make it the Dash My Mug two-pack: both clocks stated, two half-pint mugs so one is always frozen, and the best rank here by a wide margin. If you want a pint per batch from Amazon.com, the Elite Gourmet Pint Perfect states one; if you are feeding a family, the OVENTE makes a quart per freeze with a written 1-year warranty.
