Some Best Mini Fridge Without Freezer Picks Still Hide a Chiller

People search for a mini fridge without a freezer for a few plain reasons. They want every cubic foot to be refrigerator space. They are tired of a little frosted box that ices over and has to be chipped clear. Or they only ever store drinks, lunches, fruit and leftovers, and never needed ice. The trouble is that a listing can be sold to that search without actually being freezer-free.

Read the ten listings line by line and only four say it in words. Upstreman calls its 2.5 cu ft unit an “All-Refrigerator Design”. Magic Chef titles its 2.4 cu ft model “All Refrigerator E-Star” and opens with “Mini all-refrigerator model”. COWSAR puts “Mini Dorm Fridge without Freezer” in its title. roomwell goes further: “Mini Fridge without Freezer – AUTO DEFROST”. Those are the only four that tell you, in the listing’s own language, that there is no frozen section inside.

Two of the best-known names say the opposite. The BLACK+DECKER BCRK32V describes itself as a “small refrigerator with chiller compartment”, and the ICEBOX IBCR25SLT puts “Mini Fridge with Chiller Compartment” in its title. A chiller is not a freezer, and neither listing calls it one, but it is a separate cold box with its own door space. If the reason you wanted a freezerless fridge was to avoid a small frosted compartment, these two are not it.

Then there are the grey areas. The EUHOMY splits its 1.7 cu ft into a “refrigeration section (1.5 Cu.ft) and compartment (0.2 Cuft)” and says only that the pair “can be used to keep vegetables and fruits fresh”. It never says whether that 0.2 cu ft is a crisper, a chiller or something colder. The smaller BLACK+DECKER, the BCRK17V, mentions no compartment of any kind. Two more, from Electactic and BEICHEN, are thermoelectric coolers with no compartment at all; they cool relative to the room, and the BEICHEN’s stated floor is 39.2°F.

The four that say it do not say equally much. Upstreman, COWSAR and roomwell each state a 32 to 50°F range. Magic Chef states only an “Adjustable temperature thermostat control”, with no range, but it gives the lowest yearly energy figure of the four, “Energy Star (241 kWh)”, and the only stated compressor warranty on the page, five years. Only roomwell claims automatic defrost. Only COWSAR gives a noise figure.

The split has nothing to do with popularity. The two BLACK+DECKER units hold the two best overall Best Sellers Ranks on the page, #82 and #110, and Amazon files both of them under Freezers. The four listings that state no freezer in words sit at #24,807, #35,567, #92,425 and #113,005. The best-selling compact fridge here is one of the two with a chiller.

So this guide sorts the ten by what each listing actually says about its cold space: freezer-free in words, silent, a vague compartment, a stated chiller, or thermoelectric. Alongside that we set out the specs that matter once the freezer question is settled: capacity, auto defrost, the stated temperature range, a reversible door, Energy Star and stated noise. Only one listing on the page claims auto defrost. Four state a temperature range. Six mention Energy Star. Four give a noise figure. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only.

All ten were captured on 5 October 2026. Their overall Best Sellers Ranks run from #82 to #113,005.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. The first column quotes or summarises each listing’s own words. “No compartment mentioned” means the listing is silent, not that it confirms freezer-free. None of the ten mentions an ice tray. Capacities are as listed: COWSAR gives 4.4 in its title and 4.42 in its size field; EUHOMY gives 1.7 overall, split 1.5 and 0.2. The thermoelectric units are listed in litres and cans; 6L is about 0.21 cu ft and 4L about 0.14 cu ft, by our arithmetic. Temperature ranges are as stated; three compressor listings give none. Ranks are overall Best Sellers Ranks returned on 5 October 2026. Amazon files the two BLACK+DECKER units in Freezers, the Electactic in Beverage Refrigerators and the other seven in Compact Refrigerators; the category is Amazon’s, not a description of the fridge. Seven of the ten were sold by Amazon.com at capture. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for any product here.

How We Chose These Ten

We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read every title, bullet and spec field for what it says about a freezer, a chiller or any second compartment. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these fridges.

  • Compact fridges returned for a no-freezer search — every product here came back for searches such as “mini fridge no freezer”. We read every listing for a freezer section before including it; none of the ten describes one.
  • Freezer status recorded in the listing’s own words — we sorted each listing into one of five groups: freezer-free stated, silent, an unexplained compartment, a stated chiller, or thermoelectric with no compartment. We also searched each listing for an ice tray; none mentions one.
  • Silence treated as silence — a listing that never mentions a compartment is recorded as “none mentioned”, not as freezer-free. The difference matters on this page, because two well-known listings disclose a chiller only in a bullet.
  • The specs that follow the freezer question — capacity, auto defrost, the stated temperature range, a reversible door, Energy Star, stated energy use and stated noise, each logged only where the listing names it. Anything missing is marked Not stated.
  • Our arithmetic is labelled — converting daily kilowatt-hours to yearly, litres to cubic feet, or energy per cubic foot is our arithmetic, and we say so every time. Where two fields on one listing disagree, we report both.
  • Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only — ranks are quoted exactly as returned on 5 October 2026, overall and in the category Amazon assigned. Ranks move constantly, and Amazon files these ten in three different categories.
  • Verified stock and seller — each product was the buy-box offer and in stock on amazon.com on 5 October 2026. Seven were sold by Amazon.com; the other three by their brands or third-party sellers, named in each card.

The Ten Compact Fridges in Detail

1. Upstreman 2.5 Cu.Ft All-Refrigerator Mini Fridge, Silver, CR26 — Best Overall

Silver single-door compact refrigerator with flat sides and a recessed handle along the door edge

The clearest freezer-free statement on the page, backed by a temperature range, Energy Star and a yearly energy figure.

Key Specifications

Freezer or chiller “All-Refrigerator Design”, stated

Temperature range 32°F to 50°F, 7 settings
Auto defrost Not stated
Energy ENERGY STAR certified; 250 kWh a year stated
Noise Not stated

Shelving 2 adjustable glass shelves, 2 clear door bins

Refrigerant R600a
Seller Upstreman Innovation Direct
Best Sellers Rank #24,807 overall; #45 in Compact Refrigerators

Why We Recommend It

This is the listing that answers the search in its own words. The title calls it an “All-Refrigerator Mini Fridge”, and the second bullet opens “All-Refrigerator Design: Measuring 18.3″ x 17.7″ x 27.2″ (W x D x H) with a 2.5 cu.ft capacity”. All-refrigerator is the term the appliance trade uses for a unit with no freezer section at all, and only two brands of the ten use it: Upstreman and Magic Chef. The COWSAR and the roomwell say “without Freezer”, which amounts to the same thing; everyone else either describes a second compartment or says nothing.

The temperature control is spelled out. “With 7 temperature settings ranging from 32°F to 50°F, this small refrigerator optimizes storage for various items.” That is the same 32 to 50°F span the COWSAR, roomwell and EUHOMY state, and it is a full refrigerator range: the cold end sits at freezing, the warm end suits drinks and produce. Four compressor fridges on this page, both BLACK+DECKERs, the ICEBOX and the Magic Chef, give no range at all, so having one in writing is already a point in its favour. With no freezer box drawing cold to one corner, the whole 2.5 cu ft is meant to sit in that band.

The energy claim is specific. “With an annual energy consumption of just 250 kWh, this ENERGY STAR-certified refrigerator” uses R600a refrigerant, the bullet says. Two other listings give a yearly kilowatt-hour figure: the Magic Chef, 241 for 2.4 cu ft, and the COWSAR, 253 for a much larger 4.4 cu ft box. By our arithmetic the Upstreman and the Magic Chef both work out at about 100 kWh a year per cubic foot, against about 57 for the COWSAR. The Upstreman and Magic Chef carry the Energy Star claim and the COWSAR does not, but on the listed figures the bigger box is the more frugal per cubic foot. All three are listings’ claims, not measurements, and the rest of this energy bullet strays into running costs, which we leave out.

The details are thoughtful for a small unit. Two adjustable glass shelves and two removable clear door bins; “intelligent LED lighting illuminates automatically upon opening”, the only interior light claimed on the page; a reversible door, which the Magic Chef does not mention; two adjustable leveling feet; and an all-silver exterior with an integrated hidden handle, which the listing pitches against the “bulky black plastic sides commonly found in traditional models”. At 27.2 inches high it is a counter-height-and-under box rather than a desk-top one.

What it leaves out. There is no noise figure and no defrost claim. With no freezer section, frost has less reason to gather, but the listing does not say whether the rear wall defrosts automatically or needs an occasional switch-off. The model field reads cr71-silver while the part number and title say CR26, a small inconsistency worth noting if you register the warranty, which is one year. It is sold by Upstreman Innovation Direct, not Amazon.com, and ranks #24,807 overall and #45 in Compact Refrigerators.

Pros

  • “All-Refrigerator Design” stated outright
  • 32–50°F over 7 settings
  • ENERGY STAR certified, 250 kWh a year stated
  • Only interior LED light on the page
  • Reversible door, hidden handle
  • 2 glass shelves, 2 door bins

Cons

  • No noise figure
  • Defrost method not stated
  • Model field (cr71) disagrees with CR26
  • Sold by the brand, not Amazon.com
  • One-year warranty
  • #24,807 overall

Best for: A buyer who wants written proof of a freezer-free interior, a stated temperature range and Energy Star in one mid-size box.

2. COWSAR 4.4 Cu.Ft Mini Dorm Fridge without Freezer, Black, BC-128C-E — Best Large Capacity

Black single-door compact refrigerator about counter height with three glass shelves visible inside

The biggest truly freezer-free box on the page, with the lowest stated energy use per cubic foot by our arithmetic.

Key Specifications

Freezer or chiller “without Freezer”, stated in title
Capacity 4.4 cu ft in title; 4.42 cu ft in size field
Temperature range 32–50°F, 7 settings (1–7)
Auto defrost Not stated
Energy 253 kWh a year stated; ENERGY STAR not stated
Noise Under 43 dB stated
Door Reversible
Shelving 3 removable glass shelves
Size 31.5 in high, 20.28 in wide, 22.05 in long
Certification ETL safety certification stated
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #35,567 overall; #71 in Compact Refrigerators

Why We Recommend It

The title does the work. “COWSAR 4.4 Cu.Ft Mini Dorm Fridge without Freezer for Bedroom” is as plain as a listing gets, and nothing in the bullets contradicts it: no chiller, no compartment, no ice tray. At 4.4 cu ft in the title and 4.42 in the size field, it is the largest of the four listings that state no freezer, ahead of the roomwell at 3.3, the Upstreman at 2.5 and the Magic Chef at 2.4. No fridge on the page is bigger.

The controls match the best of the page. “Equipped with a user-friendly mechanical thermostat offering 7 adjustable settings (1-7)”, with “a temperature range of 32-50°F”. The listing’s example is modest and specific: “keeping berries fresh for a week and safely storing prepared meals”. Three removable glass shelves “simply slide them out for easy cleaning when spills occur”, and there are adjustable leveling feet and a reversible door. No door-bin count is given.

The energy figure is the standout. “This dorm fridge features a reliable, energy-efficient compressor that consumes just 253 kWh per year.” That is only three kilowatt-hours a year more than the Upstreman claims for a box with 1.9 cu ft less space, and twelve more than the 2.4 cu ft Magic Chef. By our arithmetic the COWSAR comes to about 57 kWh a year per cubic foot, the lowest of the five listings that let you work it out. The catch is the label: COWSAR mentions ETL safety certification but does not claim Energy Star anywhere. If the certificate matters to you, for a rebate or a building rule, this listing does not give it.

It also gives a noise ceiling. “It operates at an ultra-low noise level (<43 dB), allowing placement in bedrooms, home offices, or even beside home theaters.” Four listings on the page state a noise figure, and this is the highest of the four; the EUHOMY claims under 38 dB, the Electactic 38 and the BEICHEN 25, though the last two are small thermoelectric units with no compressor. Among the freezer-free compressor fridges, it is the only one that states any noise figure at all, so a buyer weighing noise has more to go on here than with the Upstreman, the roomwell or the Magic Chef. Our quiet mini fridge roundup sorts compact fridges by that figure.

What to plan for. At 31.5 inches tall and 20.28 inches wide in the spec table, with a 22.05 inch length, it has the deepest footprint of the freezer-free four, and at 44.86 pounds listed it is the heaviest of them bar the roomwell’s 46. No defrost method is stated. It is sold by Amazon.com with a one-year manufacturer warranty, and ranks #35,567 overall and #71 in Compact Refrigerators.

Pros

  • “without Freezer” in the title
  • Largest freezer-free capacity, 4.4 cu ft
  • 253 kWh a year stated
  • 32–50°F over 7 settings
  • Under 43 dB stated
  • 3 removable glass shelves; sold by Amazon.com

Cons

  • ENERGY STAR not claimed
  • Defrost method not stated
  • Highest noise figure of the four stated
  • Deepest footprint of the freezer-free four
  • No door-bin detail
  • One-year warranty

Best for: A buyer who wants the most refrigerator space with no freezer section, and can live without an Energy Star claim.

3. roomwell E-Star 3.3 Cu Ft Mini Fridge without Freezer, Auto Defrost, REFNFR3300 — Best Hands-Off

Black single-door compact refrigerator with three full-width glass shelves and can storage on the door

The only listing of ten that claims automatic defrost, with the longest whole-unit warranty among the freezer-free four.

Key Specifications

Freezer or chiller “without Freezer”, stated in title
Capacity 3.3 cu ft
Temperature range 32–50°F (0–10°C)
Auto defrost Yes, stated: “Automatic defrost”
Energy “Energy Star compliant”; 1 kWh daily stated
Noise Not stated
Door Reversible; can-dispenser storage; 2 full-width racks
Shelving 3 full-width glass shelves
Size W18 x H33 x D20 in; flat back
Warranty 2 years replacement, stated
Seller Rapid supplies
Best Sellers Rank #92,425 overall; #180 in Compact Refrigerators

Why We Recommend It

This is the only fridge on the page that promises you will not defrost it. The title reads “roomwell E-Star 3.3 Cu Ft Mini Fridge without Freezer – AUTO DEFROST”, and the third bullet repeats it: “Automatic defrost and a mechanical thermostat negate the need for additional maintenance on your part.” No other listing of the ten uses the word defrost. For a buyer whose reason for skipping the freezer is to stop chipping ice, that sentence is the second half of the answer, and only roomwell writes it.

The freezer-free claim is explicit too. “without Freezer” sits in the title, and nothing in the bullets describes a chiller or second compartment. The thermostat range is the page’s standard 32 to 50°F, given here in both scales, “32℉-50.0℉(0℃-10℃)”, and set “by turning knob from mild to cold to coldest”. Inside are three full-width glass shelves; the door carries a can-dispenser rack and two full-width racks “for taller bottles of upto 2 liter”. The door is reversible and the back is flat: “it doesnot have any exposed components which makes it easy to fit in any small area.”

The energy claim is the one to read twice. The listing calls the unit “Energy Star compliant”, not certified, and says “its energy consumes is only 1 KWH daily”. One kilowatt-hour a day is about 365 a year by our arithmetic, roughly half as much again as the Magic Chef’s stated 241, the Upstreman’s 250 and the COWSAR’s 253, for a box sized between the Upstreman and the COWSAR. Per cubic foot it is about 111 kWh a year, ours again. As general guidance, many automatic-defrost systems periodically warm the cooling plate to clear frost, which can add to consumption; the listing does not say how its own defrost works, so we cannot tell you whether that explains the figure. Compare the yearly numbers in our energy efficient mini fridge guide before you assume the E-Star name settles it.

The warranty is the best whole-unit cover among the freezer-free four. The spec field says “2 Years Warranty” and the bullets describe “2 years replacement warranty”, against one year on the Upstreman and the COWSAR. The Magic Chef states one year on parts and labour with five years on the compressor part, and the ICEBOX a 7-year limited warranty. The copy itself is rough in places; one bullet carries a stray “8. Warranty” fragment from another document, and the manufacturer field reads roomwell.co.uk.

What to weigh. It is sold by Rapid supplies, not Amazon.com, and ranks #92,425 overall and #180 in Compact Refrigerators, second-weakest on the page. No noise figure is given. At 33 inches high and 46 pounds listed, it is the tallest and heaviest of the freezer-free four. For the buyer who wants no freezer and no defrosting, it is still the only listing that promises both.

Pros

  • Only auto defrost claim of the ten
  • “without Freezer” in the title
  • 32–50°F, given in °F and °C
  • 3 full-width glass shelves, 2-litre door racks
  • Flat back, reversible door
  • 2-year replacement warranty

Cons

  • 1 kWh a day stated, about 365 a year by our arithmetic
  • “Energy Star compliant”, not certified
  • No noise figure
  • Sold by a third party
  • Rough listing copy
  • #92,425 overall

Best for: A buyer who never wants to defrost a fridge again and values a 2-year warranty over the lowest energy figure.

4. Magic Chef 2.4 Cu Ft All Refrigerator E-Star, Silver, MCAR240SE2 — Best Compressor Warranty

Silver single-door compact refrigerator with two wire shelves, standing at about counter height

All-refrigerator in the title, the lowest yearly energy figure of the freezer-free four, and five years on the compressor part.

Key Specifications

Freezer or chiller “All Refrigerator”, stated in title and first bullet
Capacity 2.4 cu ft
Temperature range Not stated; adjustable thermostat
Auto defrost Not stated
Energy Energy Star; 241 kWh stated
Noise Not stated
Door Reversible not stated
Shelving 2 removable wire shelves
Size 25.8 in high, 20.5 in wide, 18.3 in long
Warranty 1 year parts and labor; 5 years compressor part
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #113,005 overall; #213 in Compact Refrigerators

Why We Recommend It

Magic Chef says it twice, and plainly. The title is “Magic Chef 2.4 Cu Ft All Refrigerator E-Star”, and the first bullet repeats it: “Mini all-refrigerator model offers 2.4 cu. ft. capacity for refrigerated items.” No chiller, no compartment and no ice tray appear anywhere in the listing. With Upstreman, it is one of only two brands of the ten to use the all-refrigerator term, and one of four listings that state no freezer in words.

The energy figure is the lowest of the freezer-free four. The last bullet reads “Energy Star (241 kWh)”. The bullet does not add “per year”, but a kilowatt-hour figure next to an Energy Star claim is normally the yearly estimate, and we read it that way. That puts it nine below the Upstreman’s 250 and twelve below the COWSAR’s 253, and well below the roomwell’s 1 kWh a day, about 365 a year by our arithmetic. Per cubic foot it comes to about 100 kWh a year, ours again, level with the Upstreman. The rest of that bullet turns to electricity bills, which we leave out.

The warranty has a detail no other listing gives. The spec field reads “1 year parts & labor / 5 years compressor part”. The compressor is the expensive part of a compact fridge, and no other listing on the page states separate cover for it. The ICEBOX’s 7-year limited warranty is longer on paper but undetailed, and the roomwell offers two years’ replacement. Note the wording: five years on the compressor part, so check whether labour to fit it is covered after year one.

Elsewhere the listing is thin. “Adjustable temperature thermostat control for customized cooling”, with no range, where the other three freezer-free listings all state 32 to 50°F. “Compressor cooling system for a consistently cool temperature”, with no noise figure. Two removable wire shelves, not glass, and no door-bin detail. No reversible door is mentioned, and nothing is said about defrosting. Five short bullets are the whole listing; it commits clearly on the freezer question and on energy, and on little else.

Size and standing. At 25.8 inches high it is the shortest of the freezer-free four, and at 20.5 inches the widest; it weighs 38.6 pounds listed. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #113,005 overall and #213 in Compact Refrigerators, the weakest rank on the page. For a buyer who wants a plain, Energy Star all-refrigerator with long compressor cover, it does the job on paper; for one who wants to know the temperature range before buying, the Upstreman says more.

Pros

  • “All Refrigerator” in title and first bullet
  • Energy Star, 241 kWh stated
  • Lowest energy figure of the freezer-free four
  • 5 years on the compressor part
  • Shortest of the freezer-free four, 25.8 in
  • Sold by Amazon.com

Cons

  • No temperature range stated
  • Wire shelves, not glass
  • Reversible door not mentioned
  • No noise figure or defrost claim
  • Only five short bullets
  • Weakest rank, #113,005 overall

Best for: A buyer who wants a plain Energy Star all-refrigerator with the longest stated compressor cover, and can live without a stated range.

5. BLACK+DECKER 1.7 Cu. Ft. Compact Refrigerator, BCRK17V, Stainless Look — Best Small

Small stainless-look cube refrigerator with a single door, sized to sit under a desk

A best-selling cube fridge that describes no second compartment at all, though it never says freezer-free either.

Key Specifications

Freezer or chiller None mentioned
Capacity 1.7 cu ft
Temperature range Not stated
Auto defrost Not stated
Energy ENERGY STAR certified; 70 watts stated
Noise Not stated
Door Reversible
Shelving 1 removable glass shelf; full and half-width door bin
Size 19.7 in high, 18.5 in wide, 17.5 in long
Refrigerant R600a
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #110 overall; #11 in Freezers

Why We Recommend It

This is the silent case, and it is worth being precise about. The BCRK17V’s listing calls it a “small refrigerator” that “provides storage for leftovers, food, soda, beer, and other beverages with minimal energy (70 watts)”. It describes one removable glass shelf and a door bin. It never mentions a chiller, a freezer or an ice tray. Its bigger sibling, the BCRK32V, uses almost the same bullets but adds the words “with chiller compartment”; this one does not.

So on the listing, there is no second compartment, but there is no promise either. We record it as “none mentioned”, one step below the four listings that say freezer-free in words. If an all-refrigerator interior is the whole point of your purchase, it is worth a one-line question to the seller before you order. Amazon adds to the confusion by filing it at #11 in Freezers, alongside the chiller-equipped BCRK32V at #9; that is a category label, and nothing in the listing describes a freezer.

What it does state is solid. “This compact refrigerator uses R600a refrigerant and is ENERGY STAR certified, using high-efficiency compressors that create less heat and use less energy.” The 70-watt figure is a power draw while running, not a daily or yearly total, so it cannot be compared directly with the Upstreman’s 250 kWh a year or the EUHOMY’s 0.55 kWh a day. The door is reversible and the legs adjust for leveling.

The size is a classic cube. At 19.7 inches high, 18.5 wide and 17.5 long, it is built to slide under a desk or sit on a low cabinet. The door bin takes “cans and small containers or 1-liter or taller bottles”, a smaller bottle than the 2-litre figure the BCRK32V, ICEBOX and roomwell quote. The weak point for many buyers will be the missing temperature range: the listing never says how cold the dial goes, where the EUHOMY at the same 1.7 cu ft states 32 to 50°F.

Popularity is its strongest suit. It is sold by Amazon.com, carries a one-year warranty and ranks #110 overall, the second-best rank on the page. Among small compressor cubes, it is the best-selling one here that does not describe a chiller.

Pros

  • No chiller or freezer described
  • ENERGY STAR certified, R600a
  • 70 watts stated
  • Reversible door, leveling legs

Best Sellers Rank #14,145 overall; #27 in Compact Refrigerators

Why We Recommend It

The EUHOMY describes two spaces and names only one. Its second bullet reads: “This mini fridge is equipped with a refrigeration section (1.5 Cu.ft) and compartment (0.2 Cuft), which can be used to keep vegetables and fruits fresh.” A refrigeration section and a compartment, adding up to the 1.7 cu ft in the title. The listing does not say whether the compartment is a crisper, a chiller box or anything colder, and it does not use the word freezer. The sentence that follows ties both spaces to fruit and vegetables, which reads more like a crisper than a freezer, but that is our reading, not the listing’s statement.

That is why it sits in the middle of this page. It is not freezer-free in words, like the Upstreman, Magic Chef, COWSAR and roomwell. It does not admit a chiller, like the BCRK32V and ICEBOX. It is a grey area. If the 0.2 cu ft box matters to you, either because you want it or because you want to avoid it, ask the seller what it is and how cold it gets before ordering.

Everything else is specified better than most of the page. “Built-in a adjustable temperature control knob (32℉-50℉)”, the same range as three of the four freezer-free listings. “A highly efficient and low-consumption compressor that uses only 0.55 kWh per day”, which is about 201 kWh a year by our arithmetic, the lowest yearly total implied on the page, though for a small 1.7 cu ft box; per cubic foot it comes to about 118, ours again. And a noise claim: “a noise level of less than 38dB”, the lowest stated for any compressor fridge here.

The fit is a standard cube, measured two ways. The first bullet gives “16.9″D x 17.5″W x 19.1″H” and the spec table 19.29 inches high, 18.9 long and 17.32 wide. The differences are small, but if the space under your desk is tight, measure for the larger figure in each direction. The door is reversible, and the single removable wire shelf can come out to fit taller items. Energy Star is not claimed.

Where it stands. It is sold by Amazon.com with a one-year warranty and ranks #14,145 overall and #27 in Compact Refrigerators, the best Compact Refrigerators rank on the page. As a small, quiet, frugal cube it is strong on paper. As a mini fridge without freezer, it needs one answer the listing does not give.

Pros

  • 32–50°F range stated
  • Under 38 dB, lowest stated compressor noise
  • 0.55 kWh a day stated
  • Reversible door
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • Best Compact Refrigerators rank here, #27

Cons

  • 0.2 cu ft compartment never explained
  • Never states freezer-free
  • ENERGY STAR not claimed
  • Wire shelf, not glass
  • Bullet and spec dimensions differ
  • Defrost method not stated

Best for: A buyer who wants a quiet, frugal 1.7 cu ft cube and will confirm what the small compartment is before buying.

Best Sellers Rank #82 overall; #9 in Freezers

Why We Recommend It

This is the most popular fridge here, and it is not freezerless in the strict sense. The second bullet says it plainly: “Our small refrigerator with chiller compartment provides storage for leftovers, food, soda, beer, and other beverages with minimal energy and a small footprint.” The title says only “Compact Refrigerator”, so the chiller is easy to miss on a search results page. It ranks #82 overall, the best on the page, and Amazon files it at #9 in Freezers.

A chiller is not a freezer, and the listing does not claim it freezes. As general guidance, a chiller in a compact fridge is a small box at the top, built around the cooling plate, that runs colder than the main space and is meant for drinks or items you want extra-cold. It is not rated to keep food frozen. But it is a separate compartment, it takes some of the 3.2 cu ft, and on many compact fridges it is where frost gathers. The listing gives no size for the chiller, no temperature for it and no defrost method, so you cannot work out how much of the 3.2 cu ft is main fridge.

The rest of the listing is a solid mid-size fridge. Two removable glass shelves, “full and half-width door storage bins” that take cans or 2-liter bottles, a reversible door and adjustable leveling legs. “This compact refrigerator uses R600a refrigerant and is ENERGY STAR certified.” At 32.72 inches high it is about the height of a desk or a little above, and at 49.9 pounds listed it is the heaviest of the compact units on the page.

What is missing matters. There is no temperature range, no noise figure and no energy number beyond the Energy Star claim. Against the Upstreman, which states 32 to 50°F, 250 kWh a year and an all-refrigerator interior in a slightly smaller 2.5 cu ft box, the BCRK32V gives you more volume and a far stronger rank, and much less on paper.

Who it suits. If you came to this search because you wanted to avoid a frozen section that needs scraping, this is not the fridge. If you simply wanted a reliable-selling 3 cu ft compact and would not mind a small extra-cold box for drinks, it is the page’s most popular choice. It is sold by Amazon.com with a one-year warranty, and it comes in black, stainless look vinyl and white.

Pros

  • Best rank on the page, #82 overall
  • ENERGY STAR certified, R600a
  • 3.2 cu ft with 2 glass shelves
  • Door bins take 2-liter bottles
  • Reversible door, leveling legs
  • Sold by Amazon.com

Cons

  • Chiller compartment, stated
  • Chiller size and temperature not given
  • No temperature range
  • No noise figure or defrost claim
  • Heaviest compact unit, 49.9 lb
  • One-year warranty

Best for: A buyer who wants the best-selling 3 cu ft compact and is happy to have a small chiller box for cold drinks.

Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #31,886 overall; #64 in Compact Refrigerators

Why We Recommend It

ICEBOX is upfront about the chiller. It is in the title, “Single Door Mini Fridge with Chiller Compartment”, and again in the last bullet: “This compact refrigerator with chiller uses R600a refrigerant and is ENERGY STAR certified.” Of the two chiller fridges on the page, this is the one that tells you before you click. For a buyer specifically avoiding a second cold box, that honesty means you can rule it out at a glance.

It shares a maker with the BLACK+DECKERs. The manufacturer field reads W Appliance LLC; both BLACK+DECKER units list W Appliance Company. The bullets follow the same pattern almost word for word: “Reversible Door & Adjustable Legs: Convenient features ensure flexible placement that is perfect as a bedroom fridge, small fridge for office, dorm refrigerator, or a compact mini fridge”. We cannot say from the listings whether the units share parts, only that the copy and the manufacturer name line up.

The warranty is the headline difference. The spec field reads “7 Year Limited Manufacturer Warranty”. Most compressor fridges here state one year; the roomwell gives two, and the Magic Chef one year on parts and labour with five on the compressor part. The listing does not say what the seven years cover, and limited warranties on compact fridges often cover the sealed cooling system for longer than the rest, as general guidance; check the terms before you count on it. Even so, it is the longest stated cover on the page by some distance.

The fridge itself is a mid-size compact. 2.5 cu ft, two removable glass shelves and “a full-width door storage shelf accommodates cans and small containers or 2-liter bottles”. At 26.6 inches high, 17.5 wide and 18.5 long, it is almost the same outline as the Upstreman, which also claims 2.5 cu ft. The difference is inside: the Upstreman is all-refrigerator; the ICEBOX gives up some of its volume to a chiller of unstated size. It comes in four colours; this listing is slate blue.

What it does not state. No temperature range, no noise figure, no defrost method and no energy number beyond the Energy Star claim. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #31,886 overall and #64 in Compact Refrigerators. If you want a chiller and a long warranty, this is the strongest paper case on the page; if you want no chiller, it is out.

Pros

  • 7-year limited warranty, longest here
  • Chiller disclosed in the title
  • ENERGY STAR certified, R600a
  • 2 glass shelves, 2-liter door shelf
  • Reversible door, adjustable legs
  • Sold by Amazon.com; four colours

Cons

  • Has a chiller compartment
  • Chiller size not given
  • No temperature range
  • No noise figure or defrost claim
  • Warranty terms not detailed
  • #31,886 overall

Best for: A buyer who wants a small chiller for drinks and the longest stated warranty, not a strictly freezerless fridge.

Size 9.84 D x 5.67 W x 12.20 H in
Clearance At least 3 in on all sides
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #114 overall; #17 in Beverage Refrigerators

Why We Recommend It

This is freezer-free by design, but it is a different kind of fridge. The Electactic “adopts thermoelectric technology cooling”, with no compressor and no compartment, so there is nothing inside it that could be a freezer or a chiller. The trade-off is in the bullet: it can “cool up to 32°F (18°C) below ambient temperature”. That is a cooling distance from the room, not a set point. In a 70°F bedroom, 32°F below is about 38°F by our arithmetic; in a warm 86°F room the listing’s own timeline ends at 40°F after three hours.

The cooling timeline is unusually specific. “86°F (30°C) -64°F (18°C) within an hour, 86°F (30°C) -50°F (10°C) within 2 hours, 86°F (30°C)-40°F( 4°C) within 3 hours.” No compressor listing on the page gives a pull-down time at all. There is also a warming mode, “Up to 149°F / 65°C”, for keeping a meal hot. The listing asks for “at least 3 inches of clearance on all sides”.

The capacity is tiny. 6 litres, up to eight cans, with one removable shelf, in a box 9.84 inches deep, 5.67 wide and 12.20 high. 6 litres is about 0.21 cu ft by our arithmetic, roughly an eighth of the 1.7 cu ft cubes. It is sized for a nightstand, a desk or a car, and it comes with a household cord and a 12V car cord: “You can connect the compact refrigerator to a 100-120V home power supply, or you can connect to a 12V car power supply.” For road use, a 12V compressor unit can genuinely freeze, which this cannot.

Noise is stated at 38 dB. “The skincare mini fridge reduce to 38 dB less disruptive to work and everyday life.” The listing pitches it for drinks, snacks, makeup and skincare, the job our mini fridge for skincare guide covers in depth. For skincare and a few cans, a thermoelectric box with no freezer is a reasonable fit. For a week of groceries and leftovers, it is not.

Where it stands. It is sold by Amazon.com, carries a one-year manufacturer warranty and ranks #114 overall, third-best on the page, at #17 in Beverage Refrigerators. No energy figure is given. It is freezer-free in the most literal way, and the smallest fridge here bar the BEICHEN.

Pros

  • No compartment of any kind
  • Pull-down times stated
  • Warming mode to 149°F
  • AC and 12V car cords
  • 38 dB stated
  • Sold by Amazon.com; #114 overall

Cons

  • Cools only 32°F below the room
  • 6L, eight cans
  • Not for groceries or leftovers in bulk
  • Needs 3 in clearance all round
  • No energy figure
  • No set-point thermostat described

Best for: A bedside, desk or car buyer who wants a few cans or skincare kept cool, with no compartment and a 12V option.

10. BEICHEN Mini Fridge, 4L/6 Can Portable Cool and Warm, AC/DC, K4A — Quietest Stated

Compact black portable cooler fridge with a built-in handle and a small front door on a desk

The quietest stated figure on the page, 25 dB, in a 4-litre box whose coldest stated setting is 39.2°F.

Key Specifications

Freezer or chiller None; thermoelectric, removable dividers
Capacity 4L, up to 6 cans
Temperature range Cooling to 39.2°F (4°C); warming at 150°F
Auto defrost Not stated
Energy Not stated
Noise 25 dB stated
Power AC 100–125V and 12V car cords
Size 10.41 x 7.74 x 11 in (bullet); 11.9 x 10.6 x 7.6 in (spec)
Clearance At least 4 in behind
Warranty One year, free replacement
Seller Beichen Ltd.
Best Sellers Rank #22,944 overall; #40 in Compact Refrigerators

Why We Recommend It

No compartment, no compressor, and a floor above freezing. The BEICHEN is thermoelectric like the Electactic, but it states a target rather than a distance: “Cooling mode can be set to as low as 39.2°F (4°C), keeping skincare products, breast milk and beverages fresh for a longer period of time.” 39.2°F is seven degrees above freezing, so this is freezer-free in the plainest physical sense. It also warms: “Heating mode can maintain a constant temperature of 150°F (65.5°C)”.

It claims the quietest figure on the page. “Advanced noise-reduction technology keeps operation at just 25 decibels—quieter than a whisper.” The next lowest stated figures are 38 dB on the Electactic and under 38 on the EUHOMY. Thermoelectric units have no compressor, which is why the small ones tend to be quiet, but 25 dB is still the lowest claim of the ten. For a nightstand next to a light sleeper, that figure is the reason to look at it.

The listing is candid about two quirks. First, “a built-in temperature control that automatically lowers power if the fridge gets too warm”, and a request to “leave at least 4 inches of clearance around the back for proper airflow”. Second, “condensation may form inside during normal operation – that’s completely normal”, with advice to limit door openings and wipe moisture away. No compressor listing here mentions condensation; this one tells you to expect it.

It is the smallest fridge on the page. 4 litres, six cans, about 0.14 cu ft by our arithmetic. The bullet gives “10.41″ x 7.74″ x 11″” and then a second set in brackets, 11.9 by 10.6 by 7.6 inches, which matches the spec table; the listing does not say which is the body and which the box. There are removable compartments to separate drinks, breast milk and pet food, a built-in handle, and household and 12V car cords.

What to weigh. It is sold by Beichen Ltd., not Amazon.com, with a one-year promise: “If it fails for any reason within the first year, we’ll replace it free.” It ranks #22,944 overall and #40 in Compact Refrigerators. No energy figure is given. For six cans by the bed, it is the quietest stated option; as a replacement for a compact compressor fridge, it is far too small.

Pros

  • 25 dB stated, quietest on the page
  • Coldest setting stated, 39.2°F
  • Warming mode at 150°F
  • AC and 12V car cords
  • Removable dividers
  • Free replacement within one year

Cons

  • 4L, six cans
  • Condensation expected, per listing
  • Needs 4 in clearance behind
  • Two conflicting size sets
  • No energy figure
  • Sold by Beichen Ltd.

Best for: A light sleeper who wants six cans or skincare kept cool at the bedside, with no compartment and the lowest stated noise.

Five Ways a Listing Answers the Freezer Question

Sort the ten by the words in their own listings and they fall into five groups. Only the first is a clean yes to the search. The table quotes or summarises what each listing says, and nothing more.

Fridge What the listing says Group Ice tray Rank overall
Upstreman 2.5 “All-Refrigerator Design” Freezer-free, stated Not mentioned #24,807
COWSAR 4.4 “without Freezer” in title Freezer-free, stated Not mentioned #35,567
roomwell 3.3 “without Freezer – AUTO DEFROST” Freezer-free, stated Not mentioned #92,425
Magic Chef 2.4 “All Refrigerator” Freezer-free, stated Not mentioned #113,005
BLACK+DECKER 1.7 No compartment described Silent Not mentioned #110
EUHOMY 1.7 1.5 cu ft section plus 0.2 cu ft “compartment” Unexplained compartment Not mentioned #14,145
BLACK+DECKER 3.2 “with chiller compartment” Chiller, stated Not mentioned #82
ICEBOX 2.5 “with Chiller Compartment” in title Chiller, stated Not mentioned #31,886
Electactic 6L Thermoelectric, single space Thermoelectric Not mentioned #114
BEICHEN 4L Thermoelectric, coldest 39.2°F Thermoelectric Not mentioned #22,944

Four say yes, and they are the four you would least likely see first. Upstreman, COWSAR, roomwell and Magic Chef are the only listings that state no freezer in words, and their ranks are #24,807, #35,567, #92,425 and #113,005; all four sit outside the top five. The top three ranks belong to a chiller fridge, a silent cube and a thermoelectric cooler. If you shop by popularity alone for this search, the first fridge you land on, the BLACK+DECKER BCRK32V at #82, is one of the two that describe a chiller.

The chiller disclosure is uneven. ICEBOX puts it in the title. BLACK+DECKER puts it in the second bullet of the BCRK32V and leaves the title as “Compact Refrigerator”. On a results page, one of these tells you before you click and one does not. Neither listing gives the chiller’s size or temperature, so in both cases you cannot tell how much of the stated capacity is main fridge.

Silence is not the same as a promise. The BCRK17V describes one glass shelf and a door bin and nothing else, so on the listing it has no compartment. But it never uses the words freezer-free or all-refrigerator, and its sibling with a chiller uses near-identical copy. Amazon files both under Freezers. For a purchase where the freezer question is the whole point, a one-line question to the seller costs nothing.

The grey area is a single sentence. EUHOMY’s 0.2 cu ft compartment is about an eighth of its 1.7 cu ft, by our arithmetic. The listing ties it to fruit and vegetables, which suggests a crisper, but never names it. That is a listing that could easily be clarified, and until it is, it belongs neither with the freezer-free four nor with the chillers.

No listing mentions an ice tray. Many compact fridges with a chiller have historically included one, as general guidance, so we checked every title and bullet for the words. None of the ten uses them. Anyone hoping for a few cubes from a freezerless fridge will be disappointed either way; anyone afraid of an ice tray taking space will find none described.

Fine frost crystals covering a cold surface
Avoiding a frosted box is a common reason to go freezerless; two picks here still list a chiller.

Once the Freezer Is Gone: What the Listings State

With the freezer question settled, the specs that separate these ten are capacity, defrost, temperature range, door, Energy Star, energy use and noise. The table shows how much each listing commits to in writing. Converted figures are marked as our arithmetic.

Fridge Capacity Auto defrost Temp range Reversible door Energy Star Energy stated Noise
Upstreman 2.5 2.5 cu ft Not stated 32–50°F Yes Certified 250 kWh/yr Not stated
COWSAR 4.4 4.4 cu ft Not stated 32–50°F Yes Not stated 253 kWh/yr <43 dB
roomwell 3.3 3.3 cu ft Yes 32–50°F Yes “Compliant” 1 kWh/day (about 365/yr, ours) Not stated

BLACK+DECKER 1.7 1.7 cu ft Not stated Not stated Yes Certified 70 W running Not stated
EUHOMY 1.7 1.7 cu ft Not stated 32–50°F Yes Not stated 0.55 kWh/day (about 201/yr, ours) <38 dB
BLACK+DECKER 3.2 3.2 cu ft Not stated Not stated Yes Certified Not stated Not stated
ICEBOX 2.5 2.5 cu ft Not stated Not stated Yes Certified Not stated Not stated
Electactic 6L 6L Not stated 32°F below room Not stated Not stated Not stated 38 dB
BEICHEN 4L 4L Not stated To 39.2°F Not stated Not stated Not stated 25 dB

Auto defrost: one of ten. Only the roomwell claims it, in the title and the bullets. Every other listing is silent on defrost. A fridge with no freezer box tends to build less frost than one with a chiller, because there is no exposed cooling plate running well below the main space, as general guidance. But “less frost” is not “no defrosting”, and only roomwell puts the promise in writing.

Temperature range: four of the eight compressor fridges. Upstreman, COWSAR, roomwell and EUHOMY all state 32 to 50°F. Both BLACK+DECKERs, the ICEBOX and the Magic Chef give no range at all. Three of the four freezer-free listings state the range; the Magic Chef is the exception, committing on the freezer question and on energy but not on temperature.

Reversible door: seven of ten. Every compressor compact states it except the Magic Chef, which does not mention the door at all. The two thermoelectric units do not mention it either. If your fridge will sit against a wall on the hinge side, confirm the swing before you order.

Energy Star: six claim it, one of them loosely. Upstreman, both BLACK+DECKERs and the ICEBOX say certified, and the Magic Chef puts “Energy Star (241 kWh)” in a bullet. roomwell says “Energy Star compliant”, which is not the same word. COWSAR and EUHOMY, two of the most specific listings on energy use, claim no Energy Star at all. Compare the number, not just the label.

Energy figures: five can be compared. Converting the two daily figures to yearly, which is our arithmetic, gives EUHOMY about 201 kWh, Magic Chef 241, Upstreman 250, COWSAR 253 and roomwell about 365. Per cubic foot, again ours, that is about 57 for COWSAR, about 100 each for Upstreman and Magic Chef, 111 for roomwell and 118 for EUHOMY. The biggest box is the most frugal per cubic foot on paper, and the only one with auto defrost is the hungriest per day. The BLACK+DECKER 1.7’s 70 watts is a running draw, not a total, so it cannot sit in this comparison.

Noise: four figures, two of them thermoelectric. BEICHEN claims 25 dB, Electactic 38, EUHOMY under 38 and COWSAR under 43. Among the four freezer-free compressor fridges, only COWSAR gives a number. For a bedroom, that silence is worth noting.

Rows of empty tables and chairs in a quiet study room
Four of ten state a noise figure; among the freezer-free four, only COWSAR does.

Chiller, Freezer, Crisper: What the Words Usually Mean

The listings use three different words for a second space, and they are easy to conflate. As general guidance, this is how the terms are normally used for compact fridges; the listings themselves define none of them.

Term Usual meaning Keeps food frozen? On this page
All-refrigerator / without freezer One cold space, no freezer or chiller No Upstreman, Magic Chef, COWSAR, roomwell
Chiller compartment Small box around the cooling plate, colder than the main space No; for cold drinks or short-term chilling BLACK+DECKER 3.2, ICEBOX
Crisper or produce drawer Closed bin that holds humidity for fruit and vegetables No Possibly EUHOMY’s 0.2 cu ft; not named
Freezer compartment or section Separately insulated space, normally rated to hold frozen food Yes, if rated None of these ten

Why it matters for a freezerless buyer. The usual reasons for wanting no freezer are space, a steady temperature from top to bottom, and less frost. A chiller costs some of the first, can make the top shelf colder than the bottom, and is often where frost forms. An all-refrigerator design avoids all three by having nothing but the main space. A thermoelectric cooler avoids them too, but only because it cools much less.

Why it matters for a buyer who changes their mind. A chiller will not keep ice cream frozen. If, reading this, you realise you want frozen storage after all, look at units with a true freezer section and a stated freezer temperature; our mini fridge with freezer roundup covers those. None of the ten here has one.

Best Alternatives

Alternative Why Consider It Better For Main Trade-Off
A compact fridge with a true freezer; see our mini fridge with freezer roundup Frozen storage with a stated freezer temperature Ice cream, ice and frozen meals Less fridge space, and a freezer to defrost
A thermoelectric mini fridge cooler; see our mini fridge cooler roundup No compressor, very small, often 12V Desks, cars and a few cans Cools relative to the room, small capacity
A larger compact or apartment fridge More space than any compact here Primary food storage in a studio Bigger footprint and usually a freezer
A 12V compressor fridge; see our camping fridge freezer guide Real cooling on 12V, often with a freezer setting Vans, boats and camping Heavier and built for travel, not a bedroom

What Each Step Up in Size Actually Buys

The thermoelectric boxes — BEICHEN and Electactic. 4 and 6 litres, six and eight cans. No compartment, no compressor, quiet stated figures of 25 and 38 dB, warming modes and 12V cords. What you give up is cold: the BEICHEN’s coldest setting is 39.2°F, and the Electactic cools only up to 32°F below the room. These are for skincare, a few drinks or a lunch, not for food storage.

The cubes — BLACK+DECKER 1.7 and EUHOMY. 1.7 cu ft, under-desk height. Stepping up from thermoelectric buys a compressor and roughly eight times the space by our arithmetic. The BLACK+DECKER adds Energy Star and a top-three rank and describes no compartment; the EUHOMY adds a 32–50°F range, 0.55 kWh a day and under 38 dB, with an unexplained 0.2 cu ft compartment. Neither states freezer-free.

The mid-size units — Magic Chef, Upstreman, ICEBOX, BLACK+DECKER 3.2, roomwell. 2.4 to 3.3 cu ft, roughly 26 to 33 inches tall. This is where the freezer question splits hardest. The Magic Chef, Upstreman and roomwell are freezer-free in words; the ICEBOX and BLACK+DECKER 3.2 have chillers. Within the step, the Magic Chef buys the lowest stated yearly energy and five years on the compressor part; the Upstreman buys a stated range, Energy Star and glass shelves; the roomwell buys auto defrost and a 2-year warranty; the ICEBOX buys a 7-year limited warranty; the BLACK+DECKER buys the best rank on the page.

The large compact — COWSAR. 4.4 cu ft, 31.5 inches tall. The step up buys the most freezer-free space on the page, three glass shelves and the lowest stated energy per cubic foot by our arithmetic. It does not buy an Energy Star claim.

Cost does not track freezer status. The freezer-free four are not the lowest-priced fridges here, and the best-selling chiller fridge is not the most expensive. On this page, what you pay for is capacity, brand and paperwork; whether there is a second compartment you have to read for yourself.

A small white kitchen with a refrigerator by the window
The two thermoelectric units hold six and eight cans; the largest freezer-free fridge holds 4.4 cu ft.

Look for the Words, Not the Search Term

The search returned all ten of these for a no-freezer query, chillers included. Four listings say “All-Refrigerator”, “All Refrigerator” or “without Freezer”. Search the listing for “chiller”, “compartment” and “freezer” before you trust the results page; on this page those three words separate the ten.

Read the Bullets, Not Just the Title

The BLACK+DECKER BCRK32V’s title says “Compact Refrigerator”. The chiller is in the second bullet. ICEBOX puts it in the title. If you only skim titles, you would miss one of the two chiller fridges here, and it is the best-selling one.

Treat Silence as a Question

The BLACK+DECKER 1.7 describes no compartment, and the EUHOMY describes a 0.2 cu ft compartment it never names. Neither is confirmed freezer-free. If an all-refrigerator interior is why you are buying, ask the seller what the space is and how cold it gets.

Check for a Stated Temperature Range

Four of the ten state 32 to 50°F, including three of the four freezer-free listings. Four compressor fridges give no range at all, the all-refrigerator Magic Chef among them. A range tells you the dial reaches freezing at one end and a mild drinks temperature at the other; no range tells you nothing.

Decide Whether Defrosting Matters to You

Only the roomwell claims automatic defrost. Without a freezer box, frost has less reason to gather, but the other nine never say how they deal with it. If you never want to switch a fridge off to clear the back wall, the roomwell is the only one that promises that.

Compare Energy in kWh a Year

Five listings give an energy figure you can compare as a yearly total: about 201, 241, 250, 253 and 365 kWh, the two daily figures converted by our arithmetic. Energy Star appears on six listings, but two of the most specific energy figures, COWSAR’s and EUHOMY’s, carry no Energy Star claim. Compare the number, then check the label if a rebate depends on it.

Measure Height and Hinge Side

Heights here run from 19.1 inches on the EUHOMY to 33 on the roomwell among the compressor units. Seven listings state a reversible door; the Magic Chef does not mention it. If the fridge goes under a counter or against a wall, measure both before you order, and leave the clearance the thermoelectric listings ask for: 3 inches all round on the Electactic and 4 inches behind on the BEICHEN.

Common Mistakes

  • Trusting the search results. All ten came back for a no-freezer search; two have chillers and one an unnamed compartment.
  • Reading only the title. The BLACK+DECKER BCRK32V discloses its chiller in the second bullet, not the title.
  • Treating silence as freezer-free. The BLACK+DECKER 1.7 describes no compartment, but never says all-refrigerator.
  • Ignoring a small compartment. EUHOMY’s 0.2 cu ft box is about an eighth of its 1.7 cu ft, and it is never named.
  • Assuming a chiller will freeze. Neither chiller listing claims to keep food frozen or gives a chiller temperature.
  • Assuming no defrosting. Only roomwell claims auto defrost; nine listings say nothing about frost.
  • Reading Energy Star as the energy figure. COWSAR states 253 kWh a year with no Energy Star claim; roomwell says “compliant” and 1 kWh a day.
  • Buying thermoelectric for groceries. The BEICHEN holds six cans and stops at 39.2°F; the Electactic cools up to 32°F below the room.

Who Should Buy Which

Buy the Upstreman 2.5 if you want written proof of no freezer. “All-Refrigerator Design”, 32–50°F over 7 settings, Energy Star, 250 kWh a year and an LED light. Accept that it gives no noise figure, says nothing about defrosting and is sold by the brand rather than Amazon.com.

Buy the COWSAR 4.4 if you want the most freezer-free space. 4.4 cu ft, three glass shelves, 32–50°F, 253 kWh a year and under 43 dB, sold by Amazon.com. Accept that it claims no Energy Star and stands 31.5 inches tall.

Buy the roomwell 3.3 if you never want to defrost. The only auto defrost claim on the page, freezer-free in the title, 32–50°F and a 2-year replacement warranty. Accept 1 kWh a day stated, an Energy Star “compliant” claim rather than certified, and a third-party seller.

Buy the Magic Chef 2.4 if you want a plain all-refrigerator with long compressor cover. “All Refrigerator” in the title, Energy Star, 241 kWh and five years on the compressor part, sold by Amazon.com. Accept that it states no temperature range, mentions no reversible door and has wire shelves.

Buy the BLACK+DECKER 1.7 if you want a popular small cube. Energy Star, 70 watts, reversible door and the second-best rank on the page, with no compartment described. Ask the seller to confirm it is all-refrigerator, and accept that there is no temperature range.

Buy the EUHOMY 1.7 if quiet and frugal matter most in a cube. Under 38 dB, 0.55 kWh a day and 32–50°F stated. Ask what the 0.2 cu ft compartment is before you order.

Buy the BLACK+DECKER 3.2 if a small chiller for drinks is welcome. The best rank on the page, 3.2 cu ft and Energy Star. Do not buy it if you came here to avoid a second compartment.

Buy the ICEBOX 2.5 if you want a chiller and the longest warranty. 7-year limited cover, Energy Star and four colours. It is not freezerless in the strict sense; the chiller is in the title.

Buy the Electactic 6L if you want a few cans on 12V or at the bedside. No compartment, warming mode, pull-down times stated and 38 dB. Accept that it cools only up to 32°F below the room.

Buy the BEICHEN 4L if the quietest figure is what you need. 25 dB, a 39.2°F floor and six cans. Expect condensation, as the listing says.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best mini fridge without freezer?

For most buyers, the Upstreman 2.5 Cu.Ft All-Refrigerator Mini Fridge. It states “All-Refrigerator Design” outright, and it backs that with a 32 to 50°F range over seven settings, an Energy Star certification and a stated 250 kWh a year. It has two glass shelves, two door bins, a reversible door and an interior LED light. Its gaps are a missing noise figure and no statement about defrosting. If you need more space, the COWSAR 4.4 cu ft says “without Freezer” in its title and states 253 kWh a year for a much larger box, though it claims no Energy Star. If defrosting is the chore you want to be rid of, the roomwell 3.3 cu ft is the only listing on the page that claims automatic defrost, with a 2-year replacement warranty.

Is a chiller compartment the same as a freezer?

No, and neither chiller listing on this page claims it is. As general guidance, a chiller in a compact fridge is a small box built around the cooling plate at the top of the cabinet. It runs colder than the main space, which makes it handy for drinks you want very cold, but it is not insulated or rated to keep food frozen, and ice cream will soften in it. The BLACK+DECKER BCRK32V and the ICEBOX IBCR25SLT both describe a chiller compartment. Neither gives its size or its temperature. For a buyer who wanted a mini fridge without a freezer to get every cubic foot as fridge space and to avoid a frosted box, a chiller defeats both aims, even though it is not technically a freezer. If you want real frozen storage, look for a true freezer section with a stated temperature instead.

How can I tell if a mini fridge really has no freezer?

Read the whole listing, not just the title or the search result. On this page, four listings say it in words: Upstreman with “All-Refrigerator Design”, Magic Chef with “All Refrigerator”, and COWSAR and roomwell with “without Freezer” in their titles. Then search the bullets for three words: chiller, compartment and freezer. The BLACK+DECKER BCRK32V’s chiller is in its second bullet, not its title. The EUHOMY describes a 0.2 cu ft compartment without saying what it is. The BLACK+DECKER 1.7 describes no compartment, but it never confirms all-refrigerator either. If the listing is silent or vague, ask the seller directly what the space is and how cold it runs. And do not rely on Amazon’s category: it files both BLACK+DECKER units under Freezers, though neither listing describes a freezer.

Do mini fridges without a freezer need defrosting?

Usually less often than ones with a freezer or chiller, but only one listing here promises none at all. As general guidance, frost tends to build on the coldest exposed surface, which in a compact fridge is often the chiller or freezer box; remove that box and there is less to frost over. Even so, a cooling plate on the back wall can gather a thin layer over time, and some fridges cycle it clear automatically while others need an occasional switch-off. On this page, only the roomwell E-Star 3.3 cu ft says automatic defrost, in its title and its bullets. The Upstreman and COWSAR, the other two freezer-free listings, say nothing about defrosting. If you never want to deal with it, the roomwell is the only listing that puts the promise in writing, though its stated energy use is the highest of the four comparable figures.

How cold does a mini fridge without freezer get?

The compressor fridges that state a range all give the same one: 32 to 50°F. That covers Upstreman, COWSAR, roomwell and EUHOMY. The cold end is freezing point, so liquids set at the coldest setting could form ice near the cooling plate; the warm end suits drinks and produce. Both BLACK+DECKER units, the ICEBOX and the all-refrigerator Magic Chef give no range at all. The two thermoelectric units work differently. The BEICHEN’s coldest stated setting is 39.2°F. The Electactic cools up to 32°F below the room, so in a 70°F bedroom that is about 38°F by our arithmetic, and its listing says it takes three hours to pull an 86°F interior down to 40°F. For safe food storage, the usual advice is to keep a fridge at or below 40°F, which the compressor units with a stated range can reach.

Which mini fridge without freezer uses the least energy?

It depends whether you count per year or per cubic foot. Five listings give a figure you can compare. EUHOMY states 0.55 kWh a day, about 201 a year by our arithmetic, for a 1.7 cu ft fridge with a 0.2 cu ft compartment. Magic Chef states 241 kWh for 2.4 cu ft, the lowest of the freezer-free four, Upstreman 250 kWh a year for 2.5 cu ft, and COWSAR 253 for 4.4 cu ft. roomwell states 1 kWh a day, about 365 a year by our arithmetic. Per cubic foot, again ours, COWSAR comes out lowest at about 57 kWh a year, then Upstreman and Magic Chef at about 100 each, roomwell at about 111 and EUHOMY at about 118. Among listings that state no freezer in words, COWSAR is the most frugal per cubic foot and Magic Chef the lowest per year, and Upstreman and Magic Chef carry Energy Star. These are listing claims, not measurements. Our energy efficient mini fridge guide compares more units on the same basis.

Are thermoelectric mini fridges a good no-freezer option?

For small jobs, yes; for food storage, generally no. The Electactic 6L and BEICHEN 4L have no compressor and no compartment, so there is nothing inside that could be a freezer or a chiller. They are also quiet on paper, at 38 and 25 dB stated, and both have warming modes and 12V car cords. The limits are capacity and cold. The BEICHEN holds six cans and its coldest setting is 39.2°F. The Electactic holds eight cans and cools only up to 32°F below the surrounding air, so a warm room means a warm fridge. The BEICHEN’s listing also warns that condensation may form inside. For skincare, a few drinks or a packed lunch at a desk, either fits. For leftovers, milk and a week of groceries, a 1.7 cu ft or larger compressor fridge with a stated range is the safer choice.

Final Verdict

Best OverallUpstreman 2.5 Cu.Ft All-Refrigerator Mini Fridge

“All-Refrigerator Design” in writing, 32–50°F over 7 settings, Energy Star and 250 kWh a year stated.

Best Large CapacityCOWSAR 4.4 Cu.Ft Mini Fridge without Freezer

The most freezer-free space here, 4.4 cu ft, with 253 kWh a year and under 43 dB stated, sold by Amazon.com.

Best Hands-Offroomwell E-Star 3.3 Cu Ft Mini Fridge without Freezer

The only automatic defrost claim of the ten, freezer-free in the title, with a 2-year replacement warranty.

Ten compact fridges came back for a no-freezer search, and only four say no freezer in words. Upstreman and Magic Chef call themselves all-refrigerator; COWSAR and roomwell put “without Freezer” in their titles. Two more, the BLACK+DECKER BCRK32V and the ICEBOX, state a chiller compartment. The EUHOMY describes a 0.2 cu ft compartment it never names, the BLACK+DECKER 1.7 describes nothing, and two are thermoelectric coolers with no compartment.

Popularity points the wrong way. The best-selling fridge on the page, at #82 overall, is the BLACK+DECKER with a chiller. The four freezer-free listings rank #24,807, #35,567, #92,425 and #113,005. Shop by rank alone and the first fridge you meet is one of the two this search was trying to avoid.

So buy a mini fridge without a freezer by its words. Look for “All-Refrigerator” or “without Freezer”, then search the bullets for chiller, compartment and freezer. After that, look for a stated 32–50°F range, a defrost claim if that chore matters, and an energy figure in kWh rather than a logo. Ask the seller where the listing is silent.

If you buy one fridge from this page, make it the Upstreman 2.5 Cu.Ft All-Refrigerator Mini Fridge: all-refrigerator in writing, with a stated 32–50°F range, Energy Star, glass shelves and 250 kWh a year. If you need more room, the COWSAR 4.4 says “without Freezer” and states 253 kWh a year; if you never want to defrost, the roomwell 3.3 is the only one that promises it; and if compressor cover matters most, the Magic Chef 2.4 states five years on that part.
