Front to Back, the Best Slimline Toaster Spans 3.58 to 8.1 Inches

A slimline toaster is not a smaller toaster. Nine of the ten on this page toast four slices, the same as a chunky square four-slicer. What changes is the shape. Instead of four short slots in a block, a slim toaster lines up two long slots side by side, or one long slot on its own, and turns the body sideways along the wall. The counter it saves is front to back. The counter it spends is side to side.

So the number that decides a slimline toaster is its depth, and the listings bury it. Nobody on this page has a field called depth. Each listing gives a Height, a Length and a Width, and they do not agree on which is which. On six listings the Width field is the long side, the 14.88 to 16.3 inches the toaster spans along the wall. On the other four, Width is the short side, and Length is the long one. One seller calls its 6.7 inches “wide” when it means the distance from the wall to the front edge.

Line up the short side of each listing and the range is 3.58 to 8.1 inches. The bella Fits-Anywhere, the only one-slot, two-slice toaster here, is 3.58 inches deep, a figure its own first bullet repeats as a “sleek 3.58” profile”. Among the four-slicers, the Keenstone Slim is the shallowest at 6.2 inches and the Breville Bit More the deepest at 8.1. That is 1.9 inches between the slimmest and the bulkiest four-slice body, while their long sides sit within 1.6 inches of each other, from 14.7 to 16.3. On these ten, the long side barely moves. Depth is where they differ.

Multiply the two and the gap gets clearer. By our arithmetic, the stated depth times the stated width gives a footprint of about 91.1 square inches for the Keenstone and about 130.4 for the Breville: the deepest four-slicer here covers about 43% more counter than the shallowest one. The bella covers about 53.3 square inches for its two slices. Every footprint on this page is our arithmetic from the listed fields, not a measured figure.

The word slim follows the depth closely. Five listings use it: bella, the LAINSTEN-sold slim four-slicer, Keenstone and Mecity in their own words, and Mueller with a “slim stainless steel profile”. All five state a depth under 7 inches. The three Elite Gourmet listings and the Breville do not claim slim, and all four state 7.25 inches or more. The CUSIMAX is the odd one out: it never says slim, and its stated outline, 15.55 by 6.77 inches, is identical to the LAINSTEN one that does.

The second thing a slim layout changes is control, and here the listings go quiet. A square four-slicer often splits into two independent pairs, so two people can toast to two shades. Two long slots side by side could do the same. Not one of these ten listings states a separate set of controls for each slot. Mueller is the only one that addresses it, and says the opposite: “A single lever activates both slots simultaneously, even when toasting just one slice.” Keenstone offers a Single Slice function. The rest describe one lever, one dial or one panel, in the singular.

So this guide sorts the ten by footprint, smallest first, and reads each listing for the three things a slimline buyer needs: how deep it is, what its slots can take, and how much control you get over two slots that share one set of buttons. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only.

All ten were captured on 5 October 2026. Their overall Best Sellers Ranks run from #9 to #32,047, and the slimmest toaster on the page, the bella, is also the best-ranked: #1 in Toasters.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. Depth and width are as listed, but not always in the field of that name. On the bella, Mueller, Breville and all three Elite Gourmet listings, the long side is in the Width field and the short side in the Length field. On the Keenstone, Mecity, CUSIMAX and LAINSTEN listings it is the other way round. We have taken the short horizontal side as depth in every case. Footprint is stated depth multiplied by stated width, our arithmetic, rounded to one decimal place; it ignores the lever, feet, controls that overhang the body, and the space a cord needs. No listing gives a measured footprint. The Elite Gourmet ECT4123X gives 7.25 inches for both Height and Length, which may be a coincidence or a copied field; we use it with that caveat. Ranks are overall Best Sellers Ranks as returned on 5 October 2026; every product here is also ranked in Toasters, from #1 to #119. Five were sold by Amazon.com at capture; the other five by brand or third-party sellers. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for any product here.

How We Chose These Ten

We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read each listing’s dimensions, slot claims and controls line by line. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these toasters.

  • Long, narrow pop-up toasters only — every toaster here uses long slots laid end to end along the body, or a single long slot, so that its long side runs along the wall. Square four-slot toasters, toaster ovens and conveyor toasters were not in the running.
  • Depth taken from the stated dimensions — listings use Length and Width inconsistently, so we recorded all three listed dimensions and took the shorter horizontal side as depth, front to back. Where a bullet states a dimension too, we compared it with the field.
  • Footprint as our arithmetic — stated depth times stated width, in square inches, labelled as ours wherever it appears. It is a guide to counter use, not a measurement, and it leaves out the lever, the cord and any clearance.
  • Implausible or conflicting fields flagged — where a field cannot describe the product, or two fields disagree, we say so and report both. We checked every dimension on the page; none was implausible on its own, but several fields are mislabelled, and several non-dimension fields carry values that do not describe a toaster.
  • Controls counted per slot — for each pair of slots, we looked for a statement that each slot has its own lever, shade setting or start. We logged a single lever, dial or panel where the listing describes one, and recorded silence as not stated.
  • Slots and power as stated — slot width, length and depth, shade settings, functions and wattage are quoted only where the listing gives them. Six of ten state a slot width. Three state their watts.
  • Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only — ranks are quoted exactly as returned on 5 October 2026, overall and in Toasters. Ranks move constantly; read the order, not the precise numbers.
  • Verified stock and seller — each product was the buy-box offer, new and in stock on amazon.com on 5 October 2026.

The Ten Slimline Toasters in Detail

Best Sellers Rank #9 overall; #1 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

This is what slim looks like when a listing means it. The first bullet reads: “Slim Design, Big Impact: With a sleek 3.58” profile, the bella 2-Slice Slim Toaster fits comfortably on any countertop without taking up much space.” The spec table gives the same 3.58 inches in its Length field. That makes the bella one of only two listings on the page where a second source confirms the depth, and it is less than half as deep as the Breville at the other end of the table. The next-slimmest body here, the Keenstone, is 6.2 inches deep, so the bella saves more than 2.6 inches of counter depth over any four-slice toaster on the page.

It gets there by having one slot instead of two. “The extra-wide, 10-inch long slot accommodates two slices of bread side by side or thick artisan breads like bagels, baguettes, and Texas-style toasts.” A single slot needs elements on two sides, not four, and that is the whole trick. It also means the question of independent controls does not arise: one slot, one dial, one lever. If two people want two different shades, they toast in turn, the same as on any of the four-slicers here, none of which states a separate setting for each slot.

Its footprint per slice is mid-table. By our arithmetic, 3.58 by 14.88 inches is about 53.3 square inches, the smallest on the page, but it toasts two slices, so it uses about 26.6 square inches per slice. The Keenstone, Mueller and Mecity use less per slice than that, by the same arithmetic, and the LAINSTEN and CUSIMAX about the same. The bella is the right buy when depth is the constraint, a shallow worktop, a deep windowsill shelf, a gap in front of a splashback rail. It is not the most counter-efficient way to make four slices.

The feature list is short and deliberate. Six shade settings on a dial, a cancel function, a high-lift lever for small items like English muffins, a removable crumb tray and a cord wrap. No defrost, reheat or bagel function is stated, and no wattage is given. The 10-inch slot length is stated; the slot width is described as “extra-wide” with no figure, so if your loaf is unusually thick, the listing leaves you to guess.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com, it lists 2.47 pounds, the lightest weight given on the page, and it ranks #9 overall and #1 in Toasters, the best rank here by nearly two hundred places. Its NumberOfItems field says 2, which reads as a slice count rather than a box count; we have not used it. No warranty is stated. The height is 6.85 inches, the lowest stated on the page, which helps under a shelf, though any toaster should be pulled clear of wall cabinets while it runs.

Pros

  • 3.58 in deep, the slimmest body here
  • Depth confirmed by bullet and spec field
  • 10 in long slot, stated
  • High-lift lever and cancel
  • Lightest listed weight, 2.47 lb
  • Sold by Amazon.com; #1 in Toasters

Cons

  • Two slices only
  • No defrost, reheat or bagel stated
  • Slot width not given as a number
  • Wattage not stated
  • About 26.6 sq in per slice, not the most efficient
  • No warranty stated

Best for: A shallow counter or shelf where every inch of depth counts and two slices at a time is enough.

2. Keenstone Slim 4 Slice Touch Screen Toaster with 1.5 in Wide Slots — Best Overall

Slim stainless steel long slot toaster with two slots and an angled touch panel on one end

The shallowest four-slice body on the page, 6.2 inches, and the only listing that offers a mode for toasting less than a full load.

Key Specifications

Depth 6.2 in (Width field)
Width 14.7 in (Length field)
Height 7.2 in
Footprint About 91.1 sq in (our arithmetic)
Slots Two long slots, four slices
Slot width 1.5 in, stated
Shade settings 6
Functions Defrost, Reheat, Memory, Single Slice, Cancel
Controls One tilted touch panel; per-slot controls not stated
Power 1400W, stated
Listed weight 4.0 pounds
Seller keenstone
Best Sellers Rank #32,047 overall; #119 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

This is the slimmest way to toast four slices on the page. The spec table gives 6.2 inches in its Width field and 14.7 inches in its Length field, so here Width is the short side, the distance from the wall to the front edge. Both figures are the smallest stated for any four-slicer: 0.1 inch shallower than the Mueller and 1.9 inches shallower than the Breville, and 0.1 inch shorter along the wall than the Mecity. By our arithmetic, the footprint is about 91.1 square inches, or about 22.8 per slice, the least counter per slice on the page.

It puts the slim claim in writing and backs it with a number. “WIDE SLOTS, SLIM BODY: Two 1.5-inch extra-wide slots fit bagels, waffles, buns and thick-cut bread. This slim long slot toaster delivers 4-slice capacity without taking over your countertop.” Plenty of listings say slim. This one says slim, states a depth that supports it, and states a slot width too. 1.5 inches is the most common stated slot width here, shared with the Elite Gourmet ECT4123X, the LAINSTEN and the Mecity; only the Mueller states wider.

It is the one listing that plans for a half load. The functions list reads: “Defrost, Reheat, Memory, Single Slice and Cancel simplify every breakfast.” The listing does not explain what Single Slice does, whether it heats one slot, one side or a shorter cycle, and it does not say the two slots have separate controls. But on a page where the Mueller states that one lever runs both slots, and nobody states independent slot controls, a named function for a part load is the closest thing to slot-by-slot control any of these ten offers. If you often toast for one person, ask the seller exactly what it does before you rely on it.

The controls sit on an angle you can read. “TILTED TOUCH CONTROL: The full-screen panel shows time, shade and functions at a comfortable angle.” A panel that shows time remaining means you can glance at the toaster across a narrow kitchen rather than lean over it. Touch panels have no dial to snag, which also helps a slim body sit tight against a wall. It is one panel for both slots; our digital 4 slice toaster guide goes into what digital controls do and do not add.

The power is stated, which is rarer than it should be. 1400W is one of only three wattage figures on the page, with the Mecity at 1300W and the Breville at 1800W. The other seven do not say. Listed weight is 4.0 pounds, and the listing names a slide-out crumb tray.

What to weigh. It is sold by keenstone, not Amazon, and ranks #32,047 overall and #119 in Toasters, the weakest rank on the page. Its Size field says L, which describes nothing measurable. No warranty is stated. Those are real gaps. But on the measures that define a slimline toaster, depth, counter per slice and a stated slot width, it leads the four-slicers outright.

Pros

  • 6.2 in deep, the shallowest four-slicer
  • About 22.8 sq in per slice, least here (our arithmetic)
  • 1.5 in slots, stated
  • Single Slice mode named
  • 1400W stated
  • Tilted panel shows time and shade

Cons

  • Weakest rank on the page
  • Single Slice not explained
  • Separate slot controls not stated
  • Size field reads only L
  • No warranty stated
  • Third-party seller

Best for: A buyer who wants four slices in the least counter depth, with a stated slot width and power figure.

3. Mueller UltraToast Stainless Steel Toaster 4 Slice, Extra-Wide 1.6 in Slots — Widest Slots

Brushed stainless steel long slot toaster with two wide slots and touch buttons with a small display

The widest stated slots on the page in the second-shallowest four-slice body, and the only listing that says outright that one lever runs both slots.

Key Specifications

Depth 6.3 in (Length field)
Width 15.6 in (Width field)
Height 7.0 in
Footprint About 98.3 sq in (our arithmetic)
Slots Two extra-long self-centering slots, four slices
Slot width 1.6 in, stated in title and bullet
Shade settings 6, with memory recall
Functions Cancel, Defrost, Reheat
Controls Touch buttons and LED; single lever for both slots, stated
Power Not stated
Listed weight 4.84 pounds
Brand fields Title says Mueller; Brand and Manufacturer say JANSKA
Seller DOCTORS BEST PRODUCTS INC
Best Sellers Rank #3,618 overall; #23 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

It is the widest slot on the page in one of the slimmest bodies. The title promises “Extra-Wide 1.6” Slots”, and the first bullet repeats it: “Two extra-long, 1.6” self-centering slots handle thick sourdough, artisan loaves, Texas toast, English muffins, and oversized bagels with ease.” Six listings here give a slot width; the others say 1.25 or 1.5 inches. And it fits that slot into a body 6.3 inches deep, by the Length field, a tenth of an inch more than the Keenstone. By our arithmetic, 6.3 by 15.6 inches is about 98.3 square inches, about 24.6 per slice.

It is also the only listing that answers the controls question, and the answer is one. “A single lever activates both slots simultaneously, even when toasting just one slice.” That is unusually candid, and it is the defining trade of the long-slot format. Two slots side by side with one lever means both slots heat every time. The listing adds that the toaster “Performs best when fully loaded for maximum, even browning”, and that its heating gives “consistent results across both slots when fully loaded”. Read together, the message is that this is a toaster for full loads. Our 4 slice pop-up toaster guide sets out why a four-slicer with two control sets suits households that rarely fill it.

The controls are modern, and they remember. “Sleek capacitive touch buttons and a clear LED display put you in full control of browning level and function.” Six browning settings come with memory recall, so the last setting is kept. Cancel, Defrost and Reheat are stated. No bagel function is listed, which is worth knowing if bagels are the reason you want a 1.6 inch slot, and no wattage is given.

The identity fields do not line up. The title and bullets say Mueller. The Brand and Manufacturer fields both say JANSKA. The PartNumber field gives MT-110ss and the Model field MT-440ss. The seller at capture was DOCTORS BEST PRODUCTS INC. None of that changes the dimensions, but if you need to match a manual, a spare crumb tray or a warranty claim to a model number, ask which one applies. The Warranty field says only “Manufacturers Warranty”, with no term.

What to weigh. It ranks #3,618 overall and #23 in Toasters, fourth on the page. Listed weight is 4.84 pounds. The listing names a slide-out crumb tray, under-base cord storage and brushed stainless steel. If thick bread is the reason you are shopping and you usually fill all four slots, it is the strongest slot-size case among the slim bodies. If you often toast one slice, the stated single lever means you heat two slots to do it.

Pros

  • 1.6 in slots, widest stated here
  • 6.3 in deep, second-shallowest four-slicer
  • Memory recall for browning setting
  • Cancel, Defrost and Reheat stated
  • Honest about one lever for both slots
  • Under-base cord storage

Cons

  • Both slots heat every cycle, stated
  • No bagel function listed
  • Wattage not stated
  • Brand and model fields conflict
  • Warranty term not stated
  • Third-party seller

Best for: A household that toasts thick bread four slices at a time and needs a body barely deeper than the slimmest.

4. Mecity 4 Slice Long Slot Toaster with Timer, Warming Rack, 6 Browning Settings, 1300W — Best Dial and Timer

Black and stainless long slot toaster with a dial, a small digital display and a wire rack folded on top

A dial, a countdown display and a warming rack in a body 6.9 inches deep, with the most complete slot figures among the slim group.

Key Specifications

Depth 6.9 in (Width field)
Width 14.8 in (Length field)
Height 7.5 in
Footprint About 102.1 sq in (our arithmetic)
Slots Two long slots, four slices
Slot size 1.5 in wide, 4.7 in deep, stated
Shade settings 6, by dial
Functions Reheat, Bagel, Defrost, Cancel; warming rack
Controls One dial, one lever and a countdown display; per-slot controls not stated
Power 1300W, stated
Listed weight 5.35 pounds
Seller Ronghewan-US
Best Sellers Rank #31,360 overall; #117 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

It tells you more about its slots than almost any listing here. “Mecity 4 slice toaster with built- in warming racks on the top and 1.5 inch wide and 4.7 inch deep slots.” Slot width and slot depth together appear on only one other listing, the Elite Gourmet ECT4123X; the CUSIMAX gives a slot depth without a width. Slot depth is how far down the bread goes, and it is not the same thing as body depth; the 4.7 inches here is vertical. It tells you whether a tall slice will poke out of the top. Of the three stated slot depths, 4.7 inches is the shallowest, against 5.1 on the ECT4123X and 5.7 on the CUSIMAX.

The footprint is the fourth-smallest on the page. The Width field gives 6.9 inches and the Length field 14.8, so again the short side is in the Width field. By our arithmetic that is about 102.1 square inches, or about 25.5 per slice. It is the second-shortest four-slicer along the wall, behind the Keenstone, and 1.2 inches shallower than the Breville. The listing calls itself “The slim toaster” in its second bullet, and its depth supports the word.

It combines a dial with a display. “After the lever pressed down, the digital countdown timer will dispaly the browning level you chose for 4 seconds, then a countdown timer will tell you how much time needed to complete the toasting.” You set the shade by spinning a dial, from 1 to 6, and a screen counts the cycle down. The listing describes “the lever” and “the dial” in the singular, so this is one set of controls for both slots. It does not say otherwise.

The modes are explained, which is unusual. “REHEAT mode will heat your toasts for 30 seconds to warm them up, BAGEL mode will heat up one side and keep the other side warm, in DEFROST mode you could easily defrost and toast the breads at one go.” Cancel is in the title. The warming rack sits on top for pastries and rolls. The slots are described as “non-stick food grade stainless steel”, and there is a removable crumb tray. Power is stated at 1300W.

What to weigh. It lists 5.35 pounds, the heaviest weight given on the page, which on a narrow body is a point in its favour when you push the lever down. It is sold by Ronghewan-US and ranks #31,360 overall and #117 in Toasters, second-weakest here. Its NumberOfItems field says 4 and its Size field says “2 Long Slots”: slice and slot counts in fields meant for something else, so we have not used them. No warranty is stated.

Pros

  • 6.9 in deep, slim by this page’s measure
  • Slot width and slot depth both stated
  • 1300W stated
  • Modes explained, including 30-second reheat
  • Dial plus countdown display
  • Warming rack on top

Cons

  • Heaviest listed weight, 5.35 lb
  • Second-weakest rank here
  • Per-slot controls not stated
  • Shallowest stated slot depth, 4.7 in
  • Item-count fields misused
  • No warranty stated

Best for: A buyer who wants a physical dial, a countdown and a warming rack in a body under 7 inches deep.

5. Slim Toaster 4 Slice, Long Slot Stainless Steel, 9 Shade Settings (sold by LAINSTEN) — Most Shade Settings

Silver slim long slot toaster with two slots, a lever on one end and a row of small buttons

Nine shade settings and a slim claim in the title, on an outline identical to the CUSIMAX, from a listing that cannot decide how many slices it toasts.

Key Specifications

Depth 6.77 in (Width field); 6.7 in (first bullet)
Width 15.55 in (Length field)
Height 7.22 in
Footprint About 105.3 sq in (our arithmetic)
Slots Two long slots, four slices (one bullet says two slice)
Slot width 1.5 in, stated
Shade settings 9
Functions Bagel, Quick Glance; high-lift lever
Controls One lever; per-slot controls not stated
Power Not stated
Listed weight Not stated
Seller LAINSTEN
Best Sellers Rank #27,264 overall; #109 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

The title has no brand; the slim claim comes with a number. The listing is titled simply “Slim Toaster 4 Slice, Long Slot Stainless Steel, 9 Shade Settings(Silver)”, and the brand field and seller both say LAINSTEN. The first bullet reads: “Slim Design Fits Anywhere: Measuring 6.7 inches wide, this 4-slice toaster offers a compact profile that saves countertop space while toasting four slices simultaneously.” The spec table gives 6.77 inches in its Width field. The two figures differ by 0.07 inch, which is likely rounding; we report both and use the field.

Wide, here, means deep. The 6.7 inches the bullet calls wide is the distance from the back of the toaster to the front, the short side. The long side, 15.55 inches, is in the Length field. That is the single clearest example on the page of why you cannot read a slim toaster’s width field and assume it means side to side. By our arithmetic the footprint is about 105.3 square inches, or about 26.3 per slice, mid-table.

Its outline is the CUSIMAX’s, to the hundredth of an inch. Both listings give 15.55 by 6.77 inches. Heights differ slightly, 7.22 inches here against 7.3 on the CUSIMAX. Both offer nine browning levels, a Quick Glance function to check toast mid-cycle and a high-lift lever, in closely similar wording. We cannot tell from the listings whether the two share a body. We can say that on the page they are the same footprint, and that this one claims slim while the CUSIMAX does not.

It contradicts itself on capacity. The title, the first bullet and the last all say four slices. The fourth bullet says “The Lainsten two slice toaster has wide bread toasting slots of 1.5-inch that can fit any of your favorite bread types.” The likeliest reading is that the bullet means two slots, but the listing does not say so. Its Size field reads Silver and its Model field reads 1, neither of which describes the product, so there is no model number to check against.

What to weigh. Nine shade settings, shared only with the CUSIMAX, give finer steps than the six on most toasters here. A bagel function, integrated cord storage and a removable crumb tray are stated. No wattage, no weight and no warranty are given, and the listing describes one high-lift lever for both slots. It ranks #27,264 overall and #109 in Toasters. If you like the outline, compare it with the CUSIMAX, which states a weight, a slot length and depth, and an 18-month warranty.

Pros

  • 6.77 in deep, stated in field and bullet
  • 9 shade settings
  • 1.5 in slots, stated
  • Quick Glance mid-cycle check
  • Bagel function and high-lift lever
  • Integrated cord storage

Cons

  • One bullet says two slice
  • No weight, watts or warranty stated
  • Size and Model fields unusable
  • Per-slot controls not stated
  • Same outline as CUSIMAX with less documented
  • Brand absent from title

Best for: A buyer who wants nine shade steps in a slim body and does not need a model number or warranty in writing.

6. CUSIMAX 4 Slice Long Slot Toaster for Sourdough, Stainless Steel, ST-435 — Longest Warranty

Stainless steel long slot toaster with two slots, side vents and a lever with buttons on its end

Seller Culinea-US
Best Sellers Rank #22,652 overall; #95 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

It never calls itself slim, and it is as slim as the ones that do. The spec table gives 6.77 inches in the Width field and 15.55 inches in the Length field, exactly the LAINSTEN outline. That is shallower than all three Elite Gourmet listings and the Breville, none of which claim slim either, and within 0.57 inch of the Keenstone. By our arithmetic, the footprint is about 105.3 square inches, about 26.3 per slice. The title sells it on sourdough rather than shape: “4 Slice Toaster, CUSIMAX Long Slot Toaster for Sourdough, Stainless Steel”.

It states the longest and deepest slots on the page. “FITS ARTISAN BREAD With extra-long slots (10.24” long x 5.7” deep), it perfectly fits Texas toast, thick sourdough, rye bread, and bagels.” The 10.24 inch length beats the 10 inches on the bella and the ECT4123X, the only other stated slot lengths, and the 5.7 inch slot depth beats the 5.1 on the ECT4123X and the 4.7 on the Mecity. Slot depth is vertical: it is how much of a tall sourdough slice sits below the top of the toaster. What the listing does not give is slot width, the figure most buyers of a sourdough toaster would want first.

It shares a feature set as well as an outline with the LAINSTEN. Nine browning levels, a Glance function to “Peek at your toast mid-cycle without interrupting the process” and a high-lift lever appear on both, in similar words. The CUSIMAX documents more: a defrost function, a cancel function, side cooling vents, bottom cord storage, a listed weight of 3.95 pounds and a model number, ST-435.

The warranty is the longest stated here. The Warranty field says “18-month warranty”. Only one other listing gives a term, the Breville, at one year. Mueller says only “Manufacturers Warranty”, and the other seven say nothing. It is the only listing where a buyer can see in writing that cover lasts beyond a year.

What to weigh. The housing has “SIDE COOLING VENTS to keep the outside safe and cool to touch during use”. Vents on the sides of a slim toaster are a reason to leave space on either end rather than tuck it between a kettle and a wall. It is sold by Culinea-US and ranks #22,652 overall and #95 in Toasters. No wattage is stated, and the listing describes one high-lift lever for both slots, with no separate slot controls.

Pros

  • 6.77 in deep, though it never says slim
  • 18-month warranty, longest stated
  • Longest and deepest stated slots, 10.24 x 5.7 in
  • 9 shade settings
  • Bagel, Defrost, Cancel and Glance
  • Model number and weight given

Cons

  • Slot width not given as a number
  • Wattage not stated
  • Side vents want clearance at each end
  • Per-slot controls not stated
  • Third-party seller
  • Rank #95 in Toasters

Best for: A sourdough household that wants tall slots in a slim body and a warranty term in writing.

7. Elite Gourmet ECT5322 4-Slice Long Slot Toaster, Extra-Wide Slots, Countdown Timer — Most Features

Black and stainless long slot toaster with a glossy touch panel and a wire rack raised above the slots

A touch screen, a countdown and a retractable warming rack, in a body 7.25 inches deep with the narrowest stated slots on the page.

Key Specifications

Depth 7.25 in (Length field)
Width 15.0 in (Width field)
Height 7.5 in
Footprint About 108.8 sq in (our arithmetic)
Slots Two extra-wide slots, four slices
Slot width 1.25 in, stated
Shade settings 6
Functions Defrost, Bagel, Reheat; retractable warming rack
Controls One capacitive touch screen with LED countdown; per-slot controls not stated
Power Not stated
Listed weight Not stated
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #7,475 overall; #44 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

It is the shortest of the Elite Gourmet bodies and the deepest of the slim-feeling ones. The Length field gives 7.25 inches and the Width field 15.0, so on this listing Width is the long side. By our arithmetic, that is about 108.8 square inches, about 27.2 per slice. It is the shortest Elite Gourmet along the wall by more than an inch, but at 7.25 inches deep it sits outside the under-7-inch group that the slim-claiming listings occupy. The listing does not call itself slim.

Its extra-wide slots are the narrowest stated here. “2 EXTRA WIDE 1.25” TOASTING SLOTS to fit up to 4 extra thick slices of bread products such as Texas Toast, bagels and specialty breads.” Five other listings state a width, all of them 1.5 or 1.6 inches. 1.25 inches is a quarter inch less than the common figure and 0.35 inch less than the Mueller. For most sliced bread it is enough. For a thick bagel or hand-cut sourdough, the listings that state 1.5 or 1.6 inches give you more margin.

It carries the most features of the Elite Gourmet trio. “CAPACITIVE TOUCH SCREEN WITH DEFROST & BAGEL FUNCTIONS”, a “COUNTDOWN TIMER with 6 adjustable toasting levels and LED display”, a “RETRACTABLE WARMING RACK for warming pastries, croissants, buns, rolls, pitas and more”, and a reheat function. Only the Mecity also lists a warming rack. A retractable rack is a practical point on a slim toaster: when folded, it should keep the outline unchanged.

The controls are one panel. The listing describes a single touch screen, and it does not say that either slot can be set or started on its own. No cancel button is named, unlike the other two Elite Gourmet listings. Crumb tray, wattage and weight are not stated, which leaves the cleaning and power questions open; our easy clean toaster roundup explains why a crumb tray matters more than it sounds.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #7,475 overall and #44 in Toasters. It is a good choice if you want the touch-screen and rack features in a shorter body than the other Elite Gourmet models, and the narrower slots suit your bread. If depth is the reason you are buying, the Keenstone does the touch-panel job in 6.2 inches with wider slots.

Pros

  • Touch screen with LED countdown
  • Retractable warming rack
  • Defrost, Bagel and Reheat stated
  • Shortest Elite Gourmet body, 15.0 in
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • Rank #44 in Toasters

Cons

  • Narrowest stated slots, 1.25 in
  • 7.25 in deep, outside the slim group
  • Cancel not named
  • Crumb tray not stated
  • No watts or weight stated
  • Per-slot controls not stated

Best for: A buyer who wants a touch screen and a warming rack and toasts mostly standard sliced bread.

8. Elite Gourmet ECT4829B 4-Slice Long Slot Toaster, Extra-Wide Slots, 6 Toast Settings — Self-Centering Guides

Black long slot toaster with two slots, a lever on one end and a column of push buttons

It sells itself as space-saving, then states the second-largest footprint among the Elite Gourmet trio and the tallest body on the page.

Key Specifications

Depth 7.32 in (Length field)
Width 16.02 in (Width field)
Height 7.64 in
Footprint About 117.3 sq in (our arithmetic)
Slots Two extra-wide slots, four slices
Slot width Not stated as a number
Shade settings 6
Functions Cancel, Defrost, Reheat; self-centering guides
Controls One lever and button set; per-slot controls not stated
Power Not stated
Listed weight Not stated
Manufacturer Maxi-Matic
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #8,392 overall; #49 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

The claim is space-saving; the numbers are mid-pack. “Space-Saving Long Slot Design – Along with toasting 4 slices of bread at once, the long shape saves counter space in the kitchen and blends in well with appliances.” The long shape does save depth compared with a square four-slicer. But against the other long-slot toasters here, a 7.32 inch depth is the second-deepest stated, behind only the Breville, and 16.02 inches along the wall is the third-longest. By our arithmetic, the footprint is about 117.3 square inches, about 29.3 per slice.

It is the tallest toaster on the page. The Height field gives 7.64 inches, the highest stated, against 6.85 on the bella. That is not a big difference on an open counter, but it is one to check if the toaster has to slide under a shelf when it is put away. Do not run it there: pull it out into open space before toasting.

Self-centering guides are its distinctive feature. “Self Centering Guides – The automatic self-centering guides easily centers the toast to allow even distribution of heat for perfect browning every time.” Guides that grip the bread hold it equidistant from the elements on each side, which matters more in an extra-wide slot, where thin bread can lean. The Mueller also names self-centering slots. The listing gives no number for its extra-wide slots, so you cannot compare them with the 1.25 to 1.6 inches stated elsewhere.

The functions are standard and clearly stated. “We’ve added cancel, defrost, and reheat buttons to give you more control over your foods.” Six shade settings, a slide-out crumb tray that you “empty out and wipe it down by hand”. No bagel function is listed. Watts, weight and warranty are not stated. The buttons and lever are described as one set; the listing does not say either slot runs on its own.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com, manufactured by Maxi-Matic under the Elite Gourmet brand, and ranks #8,392 overall and #49 in Toasters. Its PartNumber field holds what looks like a barcode, 0717056132295, rather than a part number; the Model field, ECT4829B, is the one to use. A sound, plain long-slot toaster, but on this page it is neither slim nor compact.

Pros

  • Self-centering guides, stated
  • Cancel, Defrost and Reheat buttons
  • Slide-out crumb tray
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • Clear model number, ECT4829B
  • Six shade settings

Cons

  • 7.32 in deep, second-deepest here
  • Tallest stated body, 7.64 in
  • Slot width not given as a number
  • No bagel function listed
  • No watts, weight or warranty stated
  • Per-slot controls not stated

Best for: A buyer with counter length to spare who wants self-centering guides and simple buttons.

9. Elite Gourmet ECT4123X 4-Slice Long Slot Toaster, 1.5 in Wide and 5.1 in Deep Slots — Best-Ranked Four-Slicer

Stainless steel long slot toaster with two wide slots and push buttons beside a lever on one end

The best-selling four-slicer here, with its full slot size in the title, and the longest body on the page.

Key Specifications

Depth 7.25 in (Length field)
Width 16.3 in (Width field)
Height 7.25 in (identical to Length field)
Footprint About 118.2 sq in (our arithmetic)
Slots Two extra-large slots, four slices
Slot size 1.5 in wide, 10 in long, 5.1 in deep, stated
Shade settings 6
Functions Bagel, Defrost, Reheat, Cancel/Eject
Controls One touch button set; per-slot controls not stated
Power Not stated
Listed weight Not stated
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #206 overall; #3 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

It is the only listing that gives every slot dimension. The title reads “1.5” Wide & 5.1” Deep Slots”, and the first bullet adds the third figure: “2 EXTRA LARGE TOASTING SLOTS 1.5” wide, 10” long & 5.1” deep to fit up to 4 extra thick slices of specialty breads such as Texas Toast, Bagels and Artisan breads.” Width, length and depth of the slot, all stated. No other toaster here does that. If you want to check a loaf against a slot before buying, this is the listing that lets you.

The body is the longest on the page. The Width field gives 16.3 inches, the longest stated, and the Length field 7.25 inches deep. By our arithmetic the footprint is about 118.2 square inches, about 29.5 per slice, second only to the Breville. Do not confuse the 5.1 inch slot depth in the title with body depth: the slot figure is vertical, how far the bread drops, while 7.25 inches is front to back on your counter.

One field deserves a flag. The Height and Length fields both read 7.25 inches. A toaster can be exactly as tall as it is deep, and nothing about 7.25 inches is implausible for either. But identical figures in adjacent fields can also be a copy, and this is the field that gives the depth. We use it, with that caveat, and suggest checking it against the box or the manual if a quarter inch matters to your space.

The controls are one-touch buttons for one set of slots. “ONE TOUCH BUTTONS WITH TRUE BAGEL, DEFROST & REHEAT FUNCTIONS allow you to easily toast, defrost or reheat bread quickly and conveniently.” Six toasting levels, a “CONVENIENT CANCEL/EJECT BUTTON” and a reheat function that warms “at a lower temperature without over toasting”. The listing does not say either slot can be set separately. Crumb tray, watts and weight are not stated.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #206 overall and #3 in Toasters, the best rank of any four-slice toaster here and second only to the bella on the page. That popularity comes from the slot specification and the long-slot layout, not slimness: at 7.25 by 16.3 inches it is one of the larger footprints here. Our long slot toaster roundup covers long-slot toasters judged on slot size rather than footprint.

Pros

  • Slot width, length and depth all stated
  • Best rank of any four-slicer, #3 in Toasters
  • Bagel, Defrost, Reheat and Cancel/Eject
  • 1.5 in slots
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • Reheat at lower temperature, stated

Cons

  • Longest body here, 16.3 in
  • About 118.2 sq in footprint (our arithmetic)
  • Height and depth fields identical
  • Crumb tray not stated
  • No watts or weight stated
  • Per-slot controls not stated

Best for: A buyer who needs to know the exact slot size and has a long stretch of counter to give it.

10. Breville BTA730XL Bit More Toaster, 4 Slice, Brushed Stainless Steel — Best Premium

Brushed stainless steel long toaster with two slots, a lever and a row of illuminated buttons along the front

The most power and the cleverest controls on the page, in the deepest and largest body: long, but not slim.

Key Specifications

Depth 8.1 in (Length field and Size field)
Width 16.1 in (Width field and Size field)
Height 7.6 in
Footprint About 130.4 sq in (our arithmetic)
Slots Long slots, four slices; width not stated as a number
Browning Variable control; number of settings not stated
Functions A Bit More, Lift & Look, Defrost, Bagel, Fruit Bread
Controls One manual lever and button row with LED progress; per-slot controls not stated
Power 1800 Watts, 110 to 120 Volts, stated
Listed weight 4.2 pounds
Warranty 1 Year Limited, stated
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #2,148 overall; #17 in Toasters

Why We Recommend It

This is the largest footprint on the page, and the only one confirmed in two fields. The Size field reads “16.1 x 8.1 x 7.6 inches”, and the Width, Length and Height fields agree with it. By our arithmetic, 8.1 by 16.1 inches is about 130.4 square inches, about 32.6 per slice: about 43% more counter than the Keenstone and about 1.9 inches deeper. The listing never claims slim. It calls itself “a long, 4 slice toaster” and says it “Fits well within busy kitchens”. It is included here because its long layout is the same idea, and it shows what the format costs at the premium end.

It has the most power stated. “WARRANTY: 1 Year Limited Product Warranty; Power: 1800 Watts; Voltage: 110 to 120 Volts.” Only two other listings give watts, the Keenstone at 1400 and the Mecity at 1300. Higher wattage generally means faster heating, but the listing makes no claim about toasting time, and neither do we.

Its controls do the most with one set. “If you feel you need ‘A Bit More’ simply press a button to add extra time to the toasting cycle; Check on your toast with ‘Lift & Look’.” Lift & Look lets you raise the bread with the “manual lifting and lowering lever” to check it without ending the cycle. A Bit More adds a short top-up. An LED shows time remaining. Bagel, Defrost and Fruit Bread complete what the listing calls “5 Settings”. These are the closest thing on the page to fine control, but they apply to the whole toaster: the listing describes one lever and does not say the slots can be run separately.

Some basics are less specific than elsewhere. The listing promises “wider slots” and “Variable browning control” without a slot width or a count of shade settings. It names a front pull-out crumb tray: “No need to lift stainless steel toaster when cleaning.” A front tray is a genuine advantage on a long toaster pushed against a wall, since you do not have to turn it round to empty it.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com, lists 4.2 pounds and a one-year limited warranty, and ranks #2,148 overall and #17 in Toasters, third on the page. If you want the long layout and the best-documented power and controls, it is the premium choice. If slim is the point, it is the toaster this page measures the others against: every other four-slicer here is shallower.

Pros

  • 1800W, the most power stated
  • Lift & Look and A Bit More
  • Dimensions confirmed in Size field
  • Front pull-out crumb tray
  • 1 year limited warranty, stated
  • Sold by Amazon.com; #17 in Toasters

Cons

  • Deepest body here, 8.1 in
  • About 130.4 sq in, largest footprint (our arithmetic)
  • Slot width not given as a number
  • Number of shade settings not stated
  • No slim claim, and not slim
  • Per-slot controls not stated

Best for: A buyer who wants a long toaster with strong power and fine control, and has 8 inches of depth to spare.

Ten Footprints, Worked Out

No listing gives a footprint, and none uses the word depth for the body. So the table below takes each listing’s three stated dimensions, identifies the short horizontal side as depth and the long one as width, and multiplies them. The last two columns are our arithmetic. They ignore the lever, which on most of these sits on one end and can add to the width, and they leave out any space for the cord or for clearance.

Toaster Depth (stated) Width (stated) Height (stated) Footprint (ours) Per slice (ours)
bella Fits-Anywhere 3.58 in 14.88 in 6.85 in About 53.3 sq in About 26.6 sq in
Keenstone Slim 6.2 in 14.7 in 7.2 in About 91.1 sq in About 22.8 sq in
Mueller UltraToast 6.3 in 15.6 in 7.0 in About 98.3 sq in About 24.6 sq in
Mecity 6.9 in 14.8 in 7.5 in About 102.1 sq in About 25.5 sq in
Slim Toaster (LAINSTEN) 6.77 in 15.55 in 7.22 in About 105.3 sq in About 26.3 sq in
CUSIMAX 6.77 in 15.55 in 7.3 in About 105.3 sq in About 26.3 sq in
Elite Gourmet ECT5322 7.25 in 15.0 in 7.5 in About 108.8 sq in About 27.2 sq in
Elite Gourmet ECT4829B 7.32 in 16.02 in 7.64 in About 117.3 sq in About 29.3 sq in
Elite Gourmet ECT4123X 7.25 in 16.3 in 7.25 in About 118.2 sq in About 29.5 sq in
Breville Bit More 8.1 in 16.1 in 7.6 in About 130.4 sq in About 32.6 sq in

Depth does the separating. Leave the one-slot bella aside and the nine four-slicers span 14.7 to 16.3 inches along the wall, a spread of 1.6 inches, and 6.2 to 8.1 inches deep, a spread of 1.9 inches. In proportion, that is a difference of about 11% in width and about 31% in depth, by our arithmetic. Every toaster here is long. Not every one is slim, and depth is the only figure that tells you which.

The bella is in a class of its own on depth, not on efficiency. At 3.58 inches, it is 2.62 inches shallower than the Keenstone. But it toasts two slices, so it uses about 26.6 square inches of counter per slice. Three of the four-slicers, the Keenstone, the Mueller and the Mecity, use less than that, by the same arithmetic. If what limits you is how far the counter runs from the wall, the bella wins. If what limits you is total counter, a slim four-slicer gives more toast per inch.

Per slice, the range is about 22.8 to about 32.6 square inches. The Breville uses about 43% more counter per slice than the Keenstone. That is the whole case for reading the dimensions before the title: the two toasters do the same job, four slices in two long slots, and one needs almost half as much counter again.

Height barely varies. The ten run from 6.85 inches on the bella to 7.64 on the Elite Gourmet ECT4829B. If your toaster lives under a shelf when it is put away, check the figure, but the spread is under an inch. Depth is the dimension that changes the decision.

Toast and soft-boiled eggs on a breakfast plate
By our arithmetic, the deepest four-slicer here uses about 43% more counter per slice than the shallowest.

Who Says Slim, and Who Is

Five listings use the word slim or call themselves slim in their copy. Five do not. The split lines up almost perfectly with stated depth, with one exception that undersells itself.

Toaster Slim claim Depth (stated) Overall rank Toasters rank
bella Fits-Anywhere “Slim Toaster” in title; “sleek 3.58” profile” 3.58 in #9 #1
Keenstone Slim “Slim” in title; “SLIM BODY” 6.2 in #32,047 #119
Mueller UltraToast “slim stainless steel profile” 6.3 in #3,618 #23
Slim Toaster (LAINSTEN) “Slim Toaster” in title; “Slim Design Fits Anywhere” 6.77 in #27,264 #109
Mecity “The slim toaster” 6.9 in #31,360 #117
CUSIMAX None 6.77 in #22,652 #95
Elite Gourmet ECT5322 None 7.25 in #7,475 #44
Elite Gourmet ECT4123X None 7.25 in #206 #3
Elite Gourmet ECT4829B “Space-Saving Long Slot Design” 7.32 in #8,392 #49
Breville Bit More None; “a long, 4 slice toaster” 8.1 in #2,148 #17

Every slim claim comes with a depth under 7 inches. The five listings that say slim state 3.58, 6.2, 6.3, 6.77 and 6.9 inches. The three Elite Gourmet listings and the Breville, which make no slim claim, start at 7.25. On this evidence, slim in a toaster title is not empty marketing: it reliably marks the shallower bodies.

The CUSIMAX is slim without saying so. It never uses the word, and it states 6.77 by 15.55 inches, exactly the outline of the LAINSTEN listing whose title begins “Slim Toaster”. A buyer searching only for the word would miss it. The Elite Gourmet ECT4829B goes the other way: it calls itself space-saving and states the second-deepest body here.

Popularity does not follow slimness among the four-slicers. The bella, the slimmest toaster on the page, is also the best-selling, #9 overall and #1 in Toasters. But among the four-slicers, the best ranks belong to the Elite Gourmet ECT4123X at #206, the Breville at #2,148 and the Mueller at #3,618. Two of those three are 7.25 inches deep or more. The three slimmest-titled four-slicers, the Keenstone, the LAINSTEN and the Mecity, hold the three weakest ranks on the page. Whatever drives those sales, it is not depth.

One Set of Controls for Two Slots

The long-slot layout has a built-in question. A square four-slicer often splits into two halves, each with its own lever and shade, so two people can toast differently at once. A long-slot toaster could do the same, one control set per slot. We looked through all ten listings for a statement that it does.

Toaster Slots Controls described Separate control per slot Part-load option
bella Fits-Anywhere One One dial, one high-lift lever Not applicable Not stated
Keenstone Slim Two One tilted touch panel Not stated Single Slice function
Mueller UltraToast Two Touch buttons, LED, one lever No: “A single lever activates both slots” None; “Performs best when fully loaded”
Mecity Two One dial, one lever, countdown display Not stated Not stated
Slim Toaster (LAINSTEN) Two One high-lift lever, buttons Not stated Not stated
CUSIMAX Two One high-lift lever, buttons Not stated Not stated
Elite Gourmet ECT5322 Two One capacitive touch screen Not stated Not stated
Elite Gourmet ECT4829B Two Lever and buttons Not stated Not stated
Elite Gourmet ECT4123X Two One-touch buttons Not stated Not stated
Breville Bit More Two One manual lever, button row, LED Not stated Not stated

The count is zero. Of the nine two-slot toasters, none states a separate set of controls for each slot. One, the Mueller, states the reverse: one lever, both slots, every time. The others describe their controls in the singular, “the lever”, “the dial”, “the high-lift lever”, “the full-screen panel”, and leave the question there. We do not assume that silence means one set, but on the evidence of the listings, a buyer should expect one.

What one set means in practice. Both slots heat on every cycle, whether you load one slice or four. Everyone in the household toasts to the same shade at the same time, or takes turns. And a single slice in a long slot sits in one slot while the other heats empty. The Mueller is open about this: it “Performs best when fully loaded for maximum, even browning”.

The one exception is a mode, not a second control. The Keenstone lists a Single Slice function among “Defrost, Reheat, Memory, Single Slice and Cancel”. The listing does not say how it works. It is still the only part-load feature named on the page, which is one reason the Keenstone is our overall pick.

This is the real trade of the slimline format. You save depth by turning four short slots into two long ones. You give up, on the evidence of these ten listings, the second control set. If two people in your house want different toast at the same time, a slim long-slot toaster is the wrong shape.

Which Field Is Width?

The listings on this page do not agree on what their dimension fields mean, and a few carry values that do not describe a toaster at all. None of the dimension figures is implausible on its own; every depth, width and height here could describe a slim toaster. But the labels shift, and that is enough to mislead a buyer comparing widths.

  • Width is the long side on six listings — bella, Mueller, Breville and all three Elite Gourmet models put the 14.88 to 16.3 inch dimension in Width and the depth in Length.
  • Width is the short side on four — Keenstone, Mecity, CUSIMAX and LAINSTEN put the depth, 6.2 to 6.9 inches, in Width and the long side in Length. The LAINSTEN bullet calls its depth “6.7 inches wide”.
  • Two listings confirm a dimension in a second place — the bella’s bullet repeats its 3.58 inch depth, and the Breville’s Size field repeats all three dimensions. The LAINSTEN bullet gives 6.7 inches against 6.77 in the field; we report both.
  • One pair of fields is identical — the Elite Gourmet ECT4123X gives 7.25 inches for both Height and Length. That is plausible, but it could be a copied value, and it is the field that carries the depth.
  • Five fields hold the wrong kind of value — the LAINSTEN Size field reads Silver and its Model field reads 1; the Keenstone Size field reads L; the Mecity NumberOfItems field reads 4 and its Size field “2 Long Slots”. We have not used any of them.
  • Identity fields conflict on one listing — the Mueller title names Mueller while the Brand and Manufacturer fields name JANSKA, and its PartNumber, MT-110ss, differs from its Model, MT-440ss.

The practical rule is simple. Ignore the field names. Take the three numbers, find the smallest horizontal one, and that is the depth your counter has to give. The largest is the length of wall it will occupy. Then add room for the lever on the end and some clearance on every side.

What Each Step Up Buys

One slot — bella. The shallowest body by far, 3.58 inches, for two slices at a time. It buys a dial with six shades, a cancel button and a high-lift lever, and nothing else: no defrost, no reheat, no bagel setting, no stated wattage. It is the only toaster here where the controls question cannot come up, because there is one slot.

Slim four-slicers with dials or levers — Mecity, LAINSTEN, CUSIMAX. Stepping up to four slices costs 3.19 to 3.32 more inches of depth over the bella, landing at 6.77 to 6.9 inches. It buys defrost and bagel functions, nine shade settings on two of them, a warming rack and a stated 1300W on the Mecity, and an 18-month warranty on the CUSIMAX.

Slim four-slicers with touch controls — Keenstone, Mueller. The two shallowest four-slice bodies, 6.2 and 6.3 inches. They buy touch panels with memory, and the two most distinctive slot features on the page: the Keenstone’s Single Slice mode and the Mueller’s 1.6 inch slots. The Keenstone also states its watts.

Long but not slim — the Elite Gourmet trio. 7.25 to 7.32 inches deep and up to 16.3 inches long. They buy Amazon.com as the seller on all three, the best four-slice rank on the page in the ECT4123X, its complete slot dimensions, self-centering guides on the ECT4829B, and a touch screen with a warming rack on the ECT5322. They give back about an inch of depth against the slim group.

The premium long toaster — Breville. 8.1 inches deep and about 130.4 square inches by our arithmetic, the most counter on the page. It buys 1800W, Lift & Look, A Bit More, a front crumb tray and a one-year warranty in writing. It does not buy slimness, and it does not state separate controls for each slot either.

What to Check Before You Buy

Measure depth, not width

On a slimline toaster, the figure that saves counter is the distance from the wall to the front edge. On these ten it runs from 3.58 to 8.1 inches. Measure the usable depth of your counter, from the splashback or any wall socket strip to where you want the front edge to stop, then compare it with the smallest horizontal figure in the listing, whatever field it is in.

Find out which field is which

Six listings here put the long side in Width; four put it in Length. One seller calls its depth “wide”. Read all three numbers, ignore the labels and sort them yourself: the smallest horizontal figure is depth, the largest is the length of wall the toaster will take.

Choose the best 4 slice slim toaster by depth and slot width together

Four slices in a slim body is the point of the category. The Keenstone and Mueller are the shallowest four-slicers, at 6.2 and 6.3 inches, and they state 1.5 and 1.6 inch slots. If your bread is thick, check the slot width as well as the body: the Elite Gourmet ECT5322 states 1.25 inches, and four listings give no slot width at all.

Ask how many sets of controls there are

None of these ten states a separate set of controls for each slot, and the Mueller states that one lever runs both. If two people want different shades at once, or you often toast a single slice, that matters every morning. The Keenstone’s Single Slice mode is the only part-load feature named.

Know what slot depth means

The Elite Gourmet ECT4123X advertises “5.1” Deep Slots”, the CUSIMAX 5.7 inches and the Mecity 4.7. That is how far down the slot goes, vertically, not how deep the toaster is on your counter. A deeper slot covers more of a tall slice; it says nothing about footprint.

Look for the best compact toaster features that save cleaning time

A slim toaster lives against a wall, so you want to service it without turning it round. Eight listings name a crumb tray; the Breville specifies a front pull-out tray. Four name cord storage or a cord wrap, which helps a narrow appliance sit flush. The two Elite Gourmet models that do not mention a crumb tray are worth asking about.

Leave clearance around it

As general guidance, run any toaster on an open counter with space on every side and nothing above it, and keep it clear of walls, wall cabinets, curtains and anything that can burn. A slim toaster tempts you to push it tight against the splashback or under a cabinet; do not run it there. The CUSIMAX lists side cooling vents, a reminder that the ends need room too. Follow the clearance figures in your toaster’s manual, and unplug it before emptying the crumb tray.

Common Mistakes

  • Reading the Width field as side to side. On four listings Width is the short side; the LAINSTEN bullet calls its 6.7 inch depth “wide”.
  • Assuming every long toaster is slim. All ten are long, but depth runs from 6.2 to 8.1 inches among the four-slicers alone.
  • Comparing toasters by width alone. The four-slicers span 1.6 inches in width and 1.9 inches in depth; depth separates them.
  • Confusing slot depth with body depth. The ECT4123X advertises 5.1 inch deep slots; its body is 7.25 inches deep.
  • Expecting each slot to have its own controls. None of the nine two-slot toasters states it, and the Mueller states one lever runs both.
  • Buying one slot to save counter overall. The bella is 3.58 inches deep, but per slice it uses more counter than three of the slim four-slicers.
  • Searching only for the word slim. The CUSIMAX never says slim and shares the 6.77 inch depth of a listing that does.
  • Pushing a slim toaster against the wall to run it. Keep clearance on every side and above; the CUSIMAX lists side vents.

Who Should Buy Which

Buy the Keenstone Slim if you want four slices in the least depth. 6.2 inches deep, the least counter per slice on the page by our arithmetic, 1.5 inch slots, 1400W and a Single Slice mode. Accept the weakest rank here, a third-party seller and no stated warranty.

Buy the bella Fits-Anywhere if depth is the hard limit and two slices are enough. 3.58 inches deep, confirmed twice in its listing, sold by Amazon.com and #1 in Toasters. Accept a short feature list, no stated slot width or wattage, and more counter per slice than the slimmest four-slicers.

Buy the Mueller UltraToast if you toast thick bread four slices at a time. 1.6 inch slots, the widest stated, in a 6.3 inch body with memory recall. Accept that one lever runs both slots, as the listing says, and that the brand and model fields need checking.

Buy the Mecity if you want a dial, a countdown and a warming rack under 7 inches deep. 6.9 inches, 1300W stated, slot width and depth given and modes explained. Accept the heaviest listed weight and a weak rank.

Buy the LAINSTEN-sold Slim Toaster if nine shade settings in a slim body matter most. 6.77 inches deep, 1.5 inch slots, Quick Glance. Accept a listing with no weight, watts, warranty or model number, and a bullet that calls it two-slice.

Buy the CUSIMAX if you want tall slots, a slim body and a warranty in writing. The same 6.77 by 15.55 inch outline as the LAINSTEN, 10.24 by 5.7 inch slots and 18 months of stated cover. Accept that slot width and wattage are not given.

Buy the Elite Gourmet ECT5322 if you want a touch screen and a warming rack. A countdown display, defrost, bagel and reheat, and Amazon.com as seller. Accept the narrowest stated slots, 1.25 inches, and a 7.25 inch depth.

Buy the Elite Gourmet ECT4829B if you have counter length to spare and want self-centering guides. Cancel, defrost and reheat buttons and a crumb tray. Accept a 7.32 inch depth, the tallest body here and no stated slot width.

Buy the Elite Gourmet ECT4123X if you need every slot dimension in writing. 1.5 by 10 by 5.1 inches, the best four-slice rank on the page, sold by Amazon.com. Accept the longest body here and identical height and depth fields.

Buy the Breville Bit More if power and fine control matter more than slimness. 1800W, Lift & Look, A Bit More and a front crumb tray. Accept the deepest body and largest footprint on the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best slimline toaster?

For most buyers, the Keenstone Slim 4 Slice Touch Screen Toaster. It states the shallowest body of any four-slice toaster here, 6.2 inches front to back, and by our arithmetic uses about 22.8 square inches of counter per slice, the least on the page. It also states a 1.5 inch slot width, 1400 watts and a Single Slice function, the only part-load feature any of these ten names. Its weaknesses are a weak Best Sellers Rank, a third-party seller and no stated warranty. If your counter is very shallow and two slices are enough, the bella Fits-Anywhere is 3.58 inches deep, sold by Amazon.com and the best-ranked toaster in the category. If thick bread is the priority, the Mueller UltraToast states 1.6 inch slots in a 6.3 inch body, though its listing says one lever runs both slots.

What is the best 4 slice slim toaster?

The Keenstone Slim, at 6.2 inches deep, followed closely by the Mueller UltraToast at 6.3 inches. Those are the two shallowest four-slice bodies on the page, and both state their slot widths, 1.5 and 1.6 inches. The Mecity, LAINSTEN and CUSIMAX follow at 6.77 to 6.9 inches. All five use two long slots side by side, each holding two slices, which is how a four-slice toaster stays slim. Beyond depth, check two things. First, slot width, since the Elite Gourmet ECT5322 states only 1.25 inches and four listings give no number. Second, controls: none of these listings states a separate lever or shade setting for each slot, so expect both slots to run together. Our arithmetic puts the Breville, the deepest four-slicer here, at about 43% more counter than the Keenstone.

How deep is a slimline toaster?

On this page, from 3.58 to 8.1 inches front to back, by the listed dimensions. The single-slot bella is 3.58 inches. The nine four-slicers run from 6.2 inches on the Keenstone to 8.1 on the Breville. The five listings that call themselves slim all state under 7 inches; the three Elite Gourmet models and the Breville, which make no slim claim, start at 7.25, and the CUSIMAX makes no claim at 6.77. None of the ten listings uses the word depth for the body, so you have to find it yourself: take the three stated dimensions, ignore whether they are labelled length or width, and the smallest horizontal figure is the depth. Six listings here put the long side in the Width field and four put it in Length. Allow extra room beyond the stated figure for the lever, the cord and clearance from the wall.

What is the best compact toaster for a small kitchen?

It depends on which dimension your kitchen is short of. If the counter is shallow, from wall to edge, a slimline toaster is the right shape: the bella is 3.58 inches deep for two slices, and the Keenstone 6.2 inches for four. If the counter is short along the wall, slimline toasters are not compact at all; every one here is at least 14.7 inches long, and a conventional two-slice toaster will take less wall. By total counter area, our arithmetic gives the bella about 53.3 square inches, the smallest here, and the Keenstone about 91.1. Per slice, the Keenstone, Mueller and Mecity use less counter than the bella. Whatever you choose, plan for clearance on every side when it runs, and do not operate it under wall cabinets.

What is the best mini toaster?

On this page, the smallest toaster is the bella Fits-Anywhere 2-Slice Slim Toaster. It states 3.58 inches deep, 14.88 inches long and 6.85 inches high, the lowest and shallowest body here, and a listed weight of 2.47 pounds, the lightest stated. By our arithmetic, its footprint is about 53.3 square inches. It has one 10-inch slot that takes two slices side by side or one long slice, six shade settings, a cancel button and a high-lift lever. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #1 in Toasters. Mini is relative, though: at almost 15 inches long, it is long rather than small. If you need a toaster that is short along the wall, a conventional two-slot two-slicer will suit better than any slimline design.

Do slim toasters have separate controls for each slot?

Not on the evidence of these ten listings. Of the nine two-slot toasters here, none states a separate lever, shade setting or start for each slot. The Mueller UltraToast says the opposite plainly: a single lever activates both slots simultaneously, even when toasting just one slice, and it performs best when fully loaded. The other listings describe their lever, dial or touch panel in the singular. The Keenstone Slim names a Single Slice function, which is the only part-load option on the page, though the listing does not explain how it works. If two people in your house want different shades at the same time, or you usually toast one slice, a square four-slicer with two independent control sets is a better fit than a long-slot design. Ask the seller before buying if this matters to you.

Are long slot toasters good for bagels and thick bread?

The slot width matters more than the slot length. Six listings here state a width: the Mueller at 1.6 inches, the Keenstone, Mecity, LAINSTEN and Elite Gourmet ECT4123X at 1.5, and the Elite Gourmet ECT5322 at 1.25. The bella, CUSIMAX, ECT4829B and Breville say extra-wide or wider without a number. For bagels, a stated bagel function toasts the cut side harder than the outside: the ECT4123X, ECT5322, LAINSTEN, Mecity, CUSIMAX and Breville all list one, while the Mueller and Keenstone do not. For tall slices, slot depth tells you how much bread sits below the top: the CUSIMAX states 5.7 inches, the ECT4123X 5.1 and the Mecity 4.7. Self-centering guides, named on the Mueller and ECT4829B, help thinner bread stand straight in a wide slot.

How much space should I leave around a slim toaster?

Follow the clearance in your toaster’s manual, since none of these ten listings gives a figure. As general guidance, toast on an open counter with space on every side and nothing directly above, and keep the toaster away from walls, wall cabinets, curtains, paper towels and anything else that can catch heat. A slim toaster tempts you to push it flat against the splashback or tuck it under a cabinet; store it there if you like, but pull it out into open space before every use. The CUSIMAX lists side cooling vents, so its ends need room as well as its front and back. Unplug it and let it cool before you empty the crumb tray or move it, and never reach into the slots with a metal utensil.

The shallowest four-slicer, 6.2 inches, the least counter per slice by our arithmetic, 1.5 in slots, 1400W and a Single Slice mode.

One long slot in a body 3.58 inches deep, confirmed twice in its listing, sold by Amazon.com and #1 in Toasters.

Widest SlotsMueller UltraToast 4 Slice Toaster

1.6 inch slots, the widest stated, in a 6.3 inch body; the listing says one lever runs both slots.

Every toaster on this page is long. Depth decides which ones are slim. The stated depths run from 3.58 inches on the one-slot bella to 8.1 on the Breville, and among the four-slicers from 6.2 to 8.1, while their lengths along the wall stay within 1.6 inches of each other. By our arithmetic, the deepest four-slicer here uses about 43% more counter per slice than the shallowest.

The listings make depth hard to find. None uses the word. Six put the long side in the Width field and four put the short side there, and one seller calls its depth wide. But when a listing does say slim, the depth backs it up: all five slim claims come with a stated depth under 7 inches. The CUSIMAX is as slim as those five and never says so.

The cost of slim is control. Two long slots replace four short ones, and on the evidence of these listings one set of controls replaces two. None of the nine two-slot toasters states separate controls for each slot; the Mueller states that one lever runs both. Only the Keenstone names a part-load mode.

If you buy one toaster from this page, make it the Keenstone Slim: four slices in 6.2 inches of depth, the least counter per slice here by our arithmetic, a stated 1.5 inch slot and 1400W, and the only Single Slice mode on the page. If your counter is shallower still and two slices will do, the bella is 3.58 inches deep; if thick bread comes first, the Mueller gives 1.6 inch slots in 6.3 inches.
