A two-slice toaster is the smallest, simplest appliance on most worktops, and the ten listings on this page sell it in almost the same words: “extra-wide slots”, “compact”, “removable crumb tray”. Every one of the ten mentions a crumb tray. Nine give a count of shade settings. Line the listings up and they separate on four things they do not all state: how wide the slot is, which buttons sit beside the lever, what the body is made of, and what colour it comes in.
Start with the slot. Six listings call their slots wide, wider or extra-wide and stop there. Four put a number on it. Amazon Basics says each slot is “5-1/4 inches long by 1-1/4 inches wide”. GE says “1.38” x 5.50””. Cuisinart and the Savorfuze touch-screen toaster both say 1.5 inches. That is a spread of a quarter of an inch, about 6mm by our conversion, between the narrowest stated slot and the widest, and it is the difference between a bagel half that slides in and one you have to push.
Then the buttons. The four functions shoppers ask about are bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel. Only the Cuisinart lists all four as controls on the toaster. The Seydere names three as its functions and mentions reheat once, in passing, in its safety bullet. Five more name three of the four. The Breville names two, plus two of its own, “Lift & Look” and “A Bit More”. One BLACK+DECKER names only cancel. The GE names none: its listing describes shades, slots and a crumb tray, and no function button at all.
Then the body. Four listings say stainless steel. Cuisinart, GE and Breville say it in the title and the colour field; the Savorfuze goes furthest, describing a body “built with high-quality stainless steel” and calling itself “Full Stainless Steel”. The other six do not name a housing material at all. Not one of the ten says plastic. If you are shopping for the best 2 slice toaster in stainless steel, those four are the only listings that commit to it in writing.
And the colour. Stainless is common on this page. White is not. Of ten colour fields, three say Black, one says Black & Silver, one says Beige, one says Silver, three say stainless in some form, and exactly one contains the word white: the West Bend Timeless, listed as “White/Gold”. The Seydere’s manufacturer field reads “white toaster 2 slice toasters 2 slice wide slot white toaster toaster for bagels”, but its colour field says Beige. If you want the best white 2 slice toaster from this set, the listings give you one candidate, and it is two-tone.
So this guide sorts the ten by what each listing actually states: slot width as a number or as a word, shade settings as counted, the function buttons named, the housing material and the colour exactly as printed. Where a listing is silent, we say “Not stated” and treat the silence as information. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only, and all ten sit in the same Toasters category, so their ranks compare directly.
The popularity order does not follow the spec sheet. The three best-ranked toasters here are the Amazon Basics at #4 in Toasters and the two BLACK+DECKERs at #6 and #7. Between them they print one slot width, name no housing material and come in black or black and silver. The only toaster with all four buttons, the Cuisinart, ranks #22.
All ten were captured on 5 October 2026, every one in stock as the buy-box offer on amazon.com, eight of them sold by Amazon.com. Overall Best Sellers Ranks run from #242 to #58,725.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. Slot widths are as printed. Six listings describe their slots only in words, which are quoted. “Buttons named” counts a function only where the listing names it; Amazon Basics calls defrost “Frozen”, BLACK+DECKER TR1278B describes “controls for frozen items and to end toasting”, and the Seydere mentions reheat only in its safety bullet, not among its three listed functions. The Cuisinart’s first bullet says “preheat, defrost and cancel” while its third says “reheat, defrost and bagel buttons”; both are reported. Finishes are each listing’s own colour field or title wording; no listing states a plastic housing, and six state no housing material. Ranks are Best Sellers Ranks in Toasters as returned on 5 October 2026. Eight toasters were sold by Amazon.com; the Seydere was sold by jianying us and the Savorfuze by SavorFuze. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for any product here.

How We Chose These Ten
We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read each listing’s claims about its slots, controls, housing and colour line by line. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these toasters.
- Two-slice pop-up toasters only — every product here is a two-slot, two-slice electric pop-up toaster. Four-slice models, long-slot toasters and toaster ovens were not in the running; our extra wide toaster roundup and thick slice toaster guide cover wider-slot and bigger-batch options.
- New units only — every buy box here was a new product, in stock, at capture on 5 October 2026.
- Slot width recorded as printed — an inch figure where the listing gives one, and the word it uses where it does not, such as “wide”, “wider” or “extra-wide”. Millimetre equivalents are our conversion.
- Shade settings counted — the number the listing gives, whether it calls them shades, browning levels or temperature settings. A listing that says “variable” without a number is recorded as having no count.
- Function buttons named — bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel are logged only where the listing names them, in its own words. Extra functions, such as waffle or “A Bit More”, are noted separately.
- Housing and colour as stated — stainless steel only where the listing says it, in the title, the colour field or a bullet. No listing named a plastic housing, so we did not assume one. Colours are the colour field verbatim, with the title wording beside it where the two differ.
- Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only — ranks are quoted exactly as returned on 5 October 2026. All ten sit in the same Toasters category, so the category ranks compare directly, but they move constantly.
- Verified stock and seller — each product was the buy-box offer and in stock on amazon.com at capture. Eight were sold by Amazon.com.

The Ten 2 Slice Toasters in Detail
1. Cuisinart 2-Slice Toaster, 1.5” Wide Slots, Stainless Steel (CPT-160) — Best Overall

The one listing on the page that names bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel, with a slot width and a stainless finish in the title.
Key Specifications
| Slot width | 1.5 in, stated in title and bullet |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | 6 |
| Function buttons | Bagel, defrost, reheat, cancel |
| Housing / finish | Stainless Steel (title); Brushed Stainless (colour field) |
| Power | Not stated |
| Dimensions | 10.75 x 7.13 x 7.13 in |
| Listed weight | 1.72 kg (about 3.8 lb, our conversion) |
| Lift and extras | Extra-lift carriage lever, LED indicators, cord wrap |
| Crumb tray | Slide-out |
| Warranty | Limited 3-year |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #3,592 overall; #22 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
This is the only toaster here that covers the full set of buttons. The third bullet reads “The 6-setting shade dials, reheat, defrost and bagel buttons with LED indicators”, and the first adds “a preheat, defrost and cancel option”. Read together, that is bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel, the four functions most two-slice shoppers look for. The first bullet’s “preheat” is almost certainly the same reheat button described two bullets later, but the listing uses both words, so we report both. No other listing on the page names all four as controls.
The slot is measured, and it is at the wide end. “CAPACITY: Has 2 1.5-inch wide toasting slots for a wide variety of sizes.” 1.5 inches is about 38mm, by our conversion, and it ties with the Savorfuze for the widest stated slot on the page. The Amazon Basics states 1.25 inches and the GE 1.38. A quarter of an inch sounds trivial until a thick-cut bagel half meets a narrow slot; for most supermarket bagels and thick sandwich bread, 1.5 inches is comfortable. The listing does not give a slot length, so whether a long artisan slice fits end to end is not something you can check from the page.
The stainless claim is in the title and the colour field. The title says “Stainless Steel”; the colour field says “Brushed Stainless”. That puts it among the four listings that commit to stainless in writing. Unlike the Savorfuze, it does not describe the body’s construction in a bullet, so we cannot say from the listing whether every exterior panel is steel. What it does add is “this product is BPA free”, the only BPA statement on the page.
The warranty is the longest stated. “LIMITED 3-YEAR WARRANTY” is a bullet heading and a spec field. The BLACK+DECKER T2569B states two years; the GE, the Breville and the Chefman state one; five listings state none. On a small appliance with a heating element and a spring-loaded carriage, the length of the paper promise is one of the few durability signals a listing can give you before you buy.
What to weigh. The listing gives no wattage, which four rivals do. Its footprint, 10.75 by 7.13 inches, is about 76.6 square inches by our arithmetic, mid-pack for the page. The 1.72 kg weight field converts to about 3.8 pounds, second only to the Breville’s 5.1. It ranks #3,592 overall and #22 in Toasters, seventh of ten here, and is sold by Amazon.com. On the evidence of the listing alone, though, it is the most complete two-slice specification on the page: a measured slot, a counted shade dial, all four buttons, a stainless finish and three years of cover.
Pros
- Bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel all named, the only one here
- 1.5-inch slots, tied widest stated
- Stainless Steel title; Brushed Stainless colour field
- Limited 3-year warranty, the longest here
- Extra-lift lever, LED indicators, cord wrap
- BPA free stated; sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Wattage not stated
- Slot length not stated
- Bullets say both “preheat” and “reheat”
- Housing construction not described beyond the finish
- #22 in Toasters, seventh of ten here
- One colour only on this listing
Best for: A buyer who wants every common button, a measured 1.5-inch slot and a stainless finish, with the longest warranty on the page.
2. Amazon Basics 2 Slice Toaster, Extra Wide Slots, 900W, Black & Silver (KT-3680) — Best Budget

The best-ranked toaster on the page and the most precisely measured slot, at 5-1/4 by 1-1/4 inches.
Key Specifications
| Slot size | 5-1/4 in long x 1-1/4 in wide, stated |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | 6 |
| Function buttons | Bagel, Frozen (defrost), Cancel; illuminated |
| Housing / finish | Black & Silver; material not stated |
| Power | 900W |
| Dimensions | Approx. 11 x 6.5 x 7.5 in (bullet); 10.62 x 6.1 x 7.67 in (spec fields) |
| Listed weight | 2.52 pounds |
| Cord | 37 in (routed out the back), cord wrap |
| Crumb tray | Removable, at the back |
| Warranty | Not stated |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #242 overall; #4 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
No listing on the page tells you more about its slots. “Extra-wide slots for bagels and thicker slices; each slot measures 5-1/4 inches long by 1-1/4 inches wide.” Only this one and the GE give both a length and a width. Multiply them and each slot opening is about 6.6 square inches, our arithmetic. The width, 1.25 inches or about 32mm by our conversion, is the narrowest of the four stated widths here, so the phrase “extra-wide” is doing more work than the number. It will take standard bagels and thick sandwich bread; a very tall artisan slice longer than 5-1/4 inches will stand proud of the top.
The buttons are three of the four, under different names. “Bagel setting for toasting just the cut side; Frozen setting for defrosting bread; Cancel function ends the session at any time; buttons illuminate to indicate selected settings.” Frozen is defrost by another name. Reheat is the one missing. For most households that is a small loss; reheat exists mainly to warm toast that has gone cold without browning it further. The bagel setting is described precisely, toasting “just the cut side”, which is what a bagel button is supposed to do.
It states the details other listings skip. 900 watts, one of only four wattage figures on the page. A 37-inch cord, “when routed out the back”, and a cord wrap. An extra-lift lever “for safely removing smaller pieces”. A crumb tray “located in the back”, which matters if your toaster lives against a wall: you will have to turn it to empty it. It even gives two sets of dimensions, approximately 11 by 6.5 by 7.5 inches in a bullet and 10.62 by 6.1 by 7.67 inches in the spec fields. Neither is wrong by much; plan for the larger.
The finish is two colours and no material. The title and colour field both say “Black & Silver”. The listing never says what the body is made of. It does not claim stainless steel, so it should not be bought as a stainless toaster, and it does not say plastic, so we cannot say that either. If the material matters to you, this is one to ask about before ordering.
What to weigh. It ranks #242 overall and #4 in Toasters, the best rank on the page by a clear margin, and it is the lowest-priced toaster in the set at capture. No warranty is stated, which is the main gap. At 2.52 pounds and a footprint of about 64.8 square inches from the spec fields, by our arithmetic, it is one of the smaller units here. As a budget two-slice, it is the best-documented of the ten: a measured slot, a stated wattage, three named buttons and a cord length.
Pros
- Best rank here, #4 in Toasters
- Slot length and width both stated, 5-1/4 x 1-1/4 in
- Bagel, Frozen and Cancel buttons, illuminated
- 900W stated
- 37-inch cord and cord wrap stated
- Extra-lift lever; sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- 1.25-inch slot, the narrowest stated width
- No reheat button
- Housing material not stated
- Crumb tray at the back
- No warranty stated
- Bullet and spec-field dimensions differ
Best for: A budget buyer who wants measured slots, three named buttons and a stated wattage on the best-ranked toaster in the set.
3. West Bend Timeless 2-Slice Toaster, White/Gold (TTWB2SWG13) — Best White

The only colour field of ten that says white, on a toaster with four backlit buttons and two stated safety features.
Key Specifications
| Slot width | Not stated (“extra-wide and deep”) |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | 7 browning levels |
| Function buttons | Bagel, Waffle, Defrost, Cancel; backlit icons |
| Housing / finish | White/Gold; material not stated |
| Power | Not stated |
| Dimensions | 10.16 x 6.69 x 7.28 in |
| Listed weight | 2.38 pounds |
| Lift and guides | Manual high-lift lever; self-centering guides |
| Safety | Anti-Jam and Auto-Shut-Off, stated |
| Warranty | Not stated |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #8,221 overall; #48 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
If you came here for the best white 2 slice toaster, this is the listing. Its title ends “White/Gold” and its colour field says the same. No other colour field among the ten contains the word white. Three say Black, one says Black & Silver, one Beige, one Silver and three stainless in some form. The White/Gold wording means a two-tone finish, so if you need a plain all-white toaster, the listing alone cannot promise it; but on this page it is the only white option there is.
It names four buttons, though not the same four as the Cuisinart. “Large, user-friendly buttons let you choose from four functions with backlit icons: Bagel, Waffle, Defrost and Cancel.” That covers three of the core four, bagel, defrost and cancel, and swaps reheat for waffle. A waffle setting is aimed at frozen toaster waffles, which are thicker and wetter than bread. The backlit icons are a practical touch on a light-coloured toaster, where printed labels can be hard to read.
It is the only toaster here with two named safety features. “SAFETY FEATURES: Anti-Jam and Auto-Shut-Off provide added safety.” The Chefman states anti-jam; the Seydere states automatic shutdown. The West Bend states both. An anti-jam feature cuts power if the carriage cannot rise. Neither feature replaces the basics: unplug before you try to free anything stuck, and never reach in with a knife or fork.
The slot is described, not measured. “2 extra-wide and deep slots with self-centering guides are ideal for bread, bagels, waffles and more.” Self-centering guides hold a slice upright in the middle of the slot so both faces brown evenly, and they are the only guides mentioned on the page. But there is no inch figure for the width, so you cannot compare it with the 1.25 to 1.5 inches stated elsewhere. Seven browning levels and a high-lift lever round out the controls.
What to weigh. No wattage, no warranty and no housing material are stated. At 2.38 pounds and 10.16 by 6.69 inches, about 68 square inches by our arithmetic, it is one of the more compact toasters here. It ranks #8,221 overall and #48 in Toasters and is sold by Amazon.com. For a white kitchen it is the only real choice in this set, and its control panel is better specified than most of the black ones.
Pros
- Only white colour field of ten (White/Gold)
- Bagel, Waffle, Defrost and Cancel with backlit icons
- Anti-jam and auto shut-off both stated
- 7 browning levels
- Self-centering guides; high-lift lever
- Compact at 2.38 lb; sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Slot width not stated
- No reheat button
- Wattage not stated
- Warranty not stated
- Two-tone, not plain white
- Housing material not stated
Best for: A buyer who wants a white toaster and a full, backlit button panel with stated anti-jam and auto shut-off.
4. GE 2 Slice Stainless Steel Toaster, Extra Wide Slots, 850 Watts (G9TMA2SSPSS) — Best Simple Stainless

Stainless steel, seven shades and a measured slot, with no function button named at all.
Key Specifications
| Slot size | 1.38 x 5.50 in, stated |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | 7 |
| Function buttons | None stated |
| Housing / finish | Stainless Steel (title and colour field) |
| Power | 850W |
| Dimensions | 11.18 x 6.88 x 7.64 in |
| Listed weight | 2.9 pounds |
| Crumb tray | Removable, pull-out |
| Warranty | Limited 1-year, entire appliance |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #2,112 overall; #16 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
This is a stainless toaster in writing. The title says “GE 2 Slice Stainless Steel Toaster” and the colour field says “Stainless Steel”. For the best 2 slice toaster in stainless steel, it is one of four candidates on the page, alongside the Cuisinart, the Breville and the Savorfuze. Like the Cuisinart, it states the finish but does not describe the body’s construction in a bullet.
The slot is measured in both directions. “EXTRA WIDE TOASTER SLOTS: Accommodate various types of breads, pastries, waffles and bagels with wide slots that measure 1.38” x 5.50”.” 1.38 inches is about 35mm by our conversion, between the Amazon Basics’ 1.25 and the 1.5 inches of the Cuisinart and Savorfuze. 5.50 inches is the longest stated slot length here, a quarter-inch more than the Amazon Basics. Each opening works out at about 7.6 square inches, our arithmetic, the largest stated opening on the page.
The controls are the simplest on the page. “7 SHADE SETTINGS: Enjoy a variety of toast options thanks to multiple shade adjustability that delivers 7 shades of doneness from lightest to darkest.” That is all the listing says about controls. It names no bagel button, no defrost, no reheat and no cancel. The title mentions toasting bagels, and the third bullet says it toasts “both halves of bagels”, but that describes the slot, not a setting that browns only the cut side. If the toaster has buttons beyond the shade selector, the listing does not tell you.
The power and the paperwork are stated. 850 watts, in the title. A “Manufacturer’s limited 1-year entire appliance warranty”. A removable crumb tray. It weighs 2.9 pounds by the listing, and its footprint of 11.18 by 6.88 inches is about 76.9 square inches by our arithmetic, almost identical to the Cuisinart’s.
What to weigh. It ranks #2,112 overall and #16 in Toasters and is sold by Amazon.com. Against the Cuisinart, it gives you a stated wattage, one more shade setting and a longer stated slot, and gives up the named buttons and two years of warranty. If you only ever toast bread and like a plain dial, that is a fair trade; if you toast bagels or frozen waffles often, the missing buttons matter.
Pros
- Stainless Steel in title and colour field
- 1.38 x 5.50 in slot, the largest stated opening by our arithmetic
- 7 shade settings
- 850W stated
- Limited 1-year whole-appliance warranty
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- No bagel, defrost, reheat or cancel button named
- Housing construction not described beyond the finish
- Slot narrower than the 1.5-inch pair
- Shorter warranty than Cuisinart or BLACK+DECKER T2569B
- Only one colour on this listing
- No lift lever extras stated
Best for: A buyer who wants a stainless toaster with a measured slot and a plain seven-shade dial, and does not need function buttons.
5. Breville BTA720XL Bit More Toaster, 2 Slice, Brushed Stainless Steel — Best Premium

The heaviest, highest-wattage toaster here, with two buttons nobody else has and no cancel named.
Key Specifications
| Slot width | Not stated (“wider slots”) |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | Variable browning control, no count |
| Function buttons | Bagel, Defrost, Lift & Look, A Bit More |
| Housing / finish | Brushed Stainless Steel (title); Stainless Steel (colour field) |
| Power | 1000W; 110 to 120 V |
| Dimensions | 11.3 x 7.3 x 8.2 in |
| Listed weight | 5.1 pounds |
| Indicator | LED progress, shows time remaining |
| Crumb tray | Front pull-out |
| Warranty | 1-year limited |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #2,148 overall; #17 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
Its buttons are its argument. “Check on toast or add extra time without interrupting the toasting cycle with ‘Lift & Look’ and ‘A Bit More’.” Lift & Look raises the carriage mid-cycle so you can see the colour and lower it again; A Bit More adds a short burst of time at the end. Both address the commonest complaint about any toaster, toast that comes up a shade too pale. No other listing here offers either. It also names a Bagel function, “even heat for even toasting”, and Defrost.
It does not name cancel. Of the core four, bagel and defrost are stated; reheat and cancel are not. The manual lever lifts the toast at any point, which does the job of a cancel in practice, but the listing never uses the word. That puts the Breville and the GE as the only two listings here without a stated cancel function. Of all the gaps on the page, this one matters least, because the manual lift covers it.
Stainless is in the title and the body copy. The title says “Brushed Stainless Steel”, the colour field says Stainless Steel, and the cleaning bullet calls it a “stainless steel toaster”. It is the heaviest toaster on the page at 5.1 pounds, nearly double the field’s typical figure, and that extra mass is consistent with a metal body, though the listing does not say what the weight is made of.
The power and the indicator are stated; the shades are not counted. 1000 watts, 110 to 120 volts, the highest stated wattage here. An LED indicator “to see how much time remains in the toasting cycle”. But the browning control is described only as “VARIABLE”, with no number of settings, the only listing of ten that gives no count. And the slots are “wider slots to meet the demands of larger artisanal bread, thick bagels and dense pastries”, with no inch figure.
What to weigh. The crumb tray pulls out from the front, so you do not need to lift the toaster to empty it. The warranty is 1 year. It ranks #2,148 overall and #17 in Toasters, sold by Amazon.com, and it is the premium toaster of the set. At 11.3 by 7.3 inches, about 82.5 square inches by our arithmetic, and 8.2 inches tall, it takes slightly more counter than most. For a buyer who cares about the last shade of brown, it is the most thoughtfully specified control panel here.
Pros
- Lift & Look and A Bit More, unique on the page
- Bagel and Defrost named
- 1000W, the highest stated
- Brushed stainless title, colour field and bullet
- LED time-remaining indicator
- Front crumb tray; sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Cancel not named
- Reheat not named
- Shade settings not counted
- Slot width not stated
- Heaviest listing, 5.1 lb
- 1-year warranty only
Best for: A buyer who wants a stainless toaster with mid-cycle checking and an extra-time button, and will pay for it.
6. Savorfuze Toaster 2 Slice Touch Screen, Wide Slot, Full Stainless Steel (TA1751AB-UL) — Best Touch Controls

The only listing that describes a stainless body, with a 1.5-inch slot and a touchscreen, but no bagel button.
Key Specifications
| Slot width | 1.5 in, stated |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | 6 browning settings + 6 bread types |
| Function buttons | Reheat, Defrost, Cancel (touchscreen) |
| Housing / finish | Full Stainless Steel (title); Silver (colour field) |
| Power | Not stated |
| Dimensions | 10.5 x 6.5 x 7.5 in |
| Listed weight | Not stated |
| Display | LED touchscreen, real-time countdown |
| Crumb tray | Slide-out; bottom cord storage |
| Warranty | Not stated |
| Seller | SavorFuze |
| Best Sellers Rank | #1,762 overall; #13 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
This listing makes the strongest stainless claim on the page. The title says “Full Stainless Steel”. A bullet headed “ODOR‑FREE STAINLESS STEEL TOASTER” says the toaster “is built with high‑quality stainless steel” and that “The premium metal body delivers solid long‑term durability and helps reduce unpleasant chemical odors associated with low‑grade plastic materials.” Another says the “stainless steel body wipes clean instantly”. It is the only one of ten that describes the body itself as stainless rather than naming a finish, and the only one that mentions plastic at all, as the thing it avoids.
The slot ties for widest stated. “1.5" EXTRA WIDE SLOTS TOASTER: Say goodbye to jammed toast! The 1.5 inch wide slots toaster effortlessly accommodate bread, bagels, frozen waffles, pastries, and English muffins.” 1.5 inches, about 38mm by our conversion, matches the Cuisinart. No slot length is given.
It has three of the four buttons, and the missing one is bagel. “3 Extra Practical Modes: Reheat, Defrost & Cancel.” Reheat “warms cold toast without over-browning it”; Defrost “thaws and toasts frozen waffles or bread in one seamless step”; Cancel “pops up bread instantly”. The listing also offers “6 browning settings and 6 bread programs”, but does not name the six bread types, and none of the text uses the word bagel for a setting. Bagels are named only as something the slots accommodate. For a bagel household, that is a notable gap on a toaster otherwise this well equipped.
The touchscreen is the other difference. “Savorfuze toaster 2 slice features a responsive LED touchscreen that shows the selected settings and real-time countdown.” Only the Breville’s LED progress indicator offers anything similar. A touchscreen has no knob to wear, and is flat to wipe, though it puts electronics on the side of a hot appliance; the listing gives no detail on that. Its tip, “Start with level 3-4 for first use!”, is a sensible one for any new toaster.
What to weigh. The title has no brand; the brand field and the seller are both Savorfuze, not Amazon.com. No weight, no wattage and no warranty are stated. The colour field says Silver. It ranks #1,762 overall and #13 in Toasters, the fourth-best rank on the page and the best of the four stainless listings. At 10.5 by 6.5 inches, about 68.2 square inches by our arithmetic, it is compact. If stainless construction is the point, this is the listing that says the most about it.
Pros
- Only listing describing a stainless body
- 1.5-inch slots, tied widest stated
- Reheat, Defrost and Cancel named
- Touchscreen with real-time countdown
- 6 browning settings plus 6 bread programs
- Best rank of the stainless four, #13
Cons
- No bagel button named
- Six bread types not named
- No weight or wattage stated
- No warranty stated
- Sold by a third-party seller, not Amazon.com
- No brand in the product title
Best for: A buyer who wants a stainless body described in writing, 1.5-inch slots, reheat and a touchscreen, and rarely toasts bagels.
7. BLACK+DECKER 2-Slice Toaster with Extra-Wide Slots (T2569B) — Best Simple Controls

The second-best rank on the page, six shades and a two-year warranty, with cancel as its only named button.
Key Specifications
| Slot width | Not stated (“extra-wide”) |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | 6 |
| Function buttons | Cancel |
| Housing / finish | Black; material not stated |
| Power | Not stated |
| Dimensions | 13.0 x 9.1 x 8.4 in |
| Listed weight | 2.99 pounds |
| Crumb tray | Removable, slide-out |
| Warranty | 2-year limited |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #424 overall; #6 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
This is a one-button toaster. “CONVENIENT CANCEL FUNCTION – Stop the toasting cycle anytime with the cancel button for added control and safer, stress-free operation.” That is the only function the listing names. There is no bagel setting, no defrost and no reheat in the text. The first bullet says the slots fit “bagels, thick artisan bread, waffles, and English muffins”, which is about size, not a toasting mode. For bread at six shades, it is all you need; for bagels and frozen waffles, the other BLACK+DECKER on this page names the buttons this one leaves out.
The slots are “extra-wide” without a figure. “EXTRA-WIDE TOASTING SLOTS – Easily fits bagels, thick artisan bread, waffles, and English muffins for perfectly even toasting every morning.” No inch figure, no length. Four listings here give a width, from 1.25 to 1.5 inches; this one asks you to take the adjective on trust. Our extra wide toaster roundup goes further into what the published widths mean.
It is the largest toaster on the page by its fields. 13.0 by 9.1 by 8.4 inches, about 118.3 square inches of footprint by our arithmetic, far more than any rival, the next being the TR1278B at about 87.4. The fourth bullet calls it a “COMPACT COUNTERTOP DESIGN”. If counter depth is tight, measure before you trust the word compact; our slimline toaster roundup covers narrower bodies.
The colour is black, and the material is not stated. The colour field says Black. No bullet names steel, plastic or anything else. It is not a stainless toaster on the evidence of the listing.
What to weigh. It ranks #424 overall and #6 in Toasters, second only to the Amazon Basics, and is sold by Amazon.com. The “2 Year Limited” warranty is the second-longest stated, behind only the Cuisinart’s three. It lists 2.99 pounds. For a buyer who toasts bread, wants six shades and a warranty, and does not care about extra buttons, it is a straightforward choice.
Pros
- #6 in Toasters, second-best rank here
- 2-year limited warranty, second-longest stated
- 6 shade settings
- Cancel button named
- Removable slide-out crumb tray
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- No bagel, defrost or reheat button named
- Slot width not stated
- Largest footprint here despite “compact”
- Housing material not stated
- Wattage not stated
- Black only on this listing
Best for: A buyer who toasts mostly bread, wants a popular toaster with a two-year warranty, and does not need bagel or defrost buttons.
8. BLACK+DECKER 2-Slice Toaster with Extra-Wide Slots (TR1278B) — Lightest Listed

The lightest listed weight and third-best rank here, with bagel, frozen and end-toasting controls.
Key Specifications
| Slot width | Not stated (“extra-wide”) |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | Knob ranges 1–7 |
| Function buttons | Bagel; controls for frozen items and to end toasting |
| Housing / finish | Black; material not stated |
| Power | Not stated |
| Dimensions | 12.01 x 7.28 x 8.07 in |
| Listed weight | 1.5 pounds |
| Lift | Extra lift lever |
| Crumb tray | Drop-down |
| Warranty | Not stated |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #638 overall; #7 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
Same title as its sibling, different toaster. Both BLACK+DECKER listings are titled “BLACK+DECKER 2-Slice Toaster with Extra-Wide Slots”. This one, model TR1278B, names more controls: “Bagel Function – Put the perfect crisp on your morning bagel using the push-button bagel function. Also controls for frozen items and to end toasting.” That is bagel, defrost and cancel, three of the core four, against one on the T2569B. If you are choosing between the two by title, the model number is the only thing that tells them apart.
The shade control is a knob from 1 to 7. “Shade Selector – Find the right shade for everyone’s tastes. The time selector knob ranges from 1-7.” Notice the word time: on most pop-up toasters the shade dial is a timer, and this listing says so plainly. Seven positions puts it with the GE, West Bend and Chefman at the top of the counted range.
It is the lightest toaster listed. 1.5 pounds, half the 2.99 pounds of the T2569B and under a third of the Breville’s 5.1. That is light for a toaster but not implausible for a compact unit. The listing gives a footprint of 12.01 by 7.28 inches, about 87.4 square inches by our arithmetic, so it is long and narrow rather than small. Its size field says “Compact”.
The crumb tray drops down. “Drop-Down Crumb Tray – Keep the counter clean and the kitchen smelling fresh. The crumb tray lets you remove crumbs before they burn.” That last phrase is the right reason to empty any crumb tray often: built-up crumbs under a heating element can smoke and, left long enough, catch fire. An extra-lift lever brings small items “safely in reach”.
What to weigh. Black, with no housing material stated, no wattage and no warranty. It ranks #638 overall and #7 in Toasters, sold by Amazon.com. Between the two BLACK+DECKERs, this is the one to pick if you toast bagels or frozen waffles; the T2569B is the one with a stated warranty.
Pros
- Bagel, frozen and end-toasting controls named
- #7 in Toasters, third-best rank here
- Shade knob 1–7
- Lightest listed weight, 1.5 lb
- Extra-lift lever; drop-down crumb tray
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Slot width not stated
- No reheat button
- No warranty stated
- Wattage not stated
- Housing material not stated
- Same title as a different model
Best for: A buyer who wants a light, popular black toaster with bagel and defrost controls and does not need a stated warranty.
9. Chefman 2 Slice Toaster, 7 Shade Settings, Black (RJ31-SS-V3) — Lowest Stated Wattage

Seven shades, three named buttons and an anti-jam shut-off, at the lowest stated wattage and rank on the page.
Key Specifications
| Slot width | Not stated (“Thick Bread and Bagel”) |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | 7 |
| Function buttons | Bagel, Defrost, Cancel; LED indicator lights |
| Housing / finish | Black (title); “Basic – New” (colour field); material not stated |
| Power | 750W, 120V |
| Dimensions | 10.0 x 6.1 x 7.0 in |
| Listed weight | 2.1 pounds |
| Safety | Anti-jam shut-off; cETL approved |
| Crumb tray | Removable, slide-out |
| Warranty | 1-year Chefman |
| Seller | Amazon.com |
| Best Sellers Rank | #58,725 overall; #166 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
The controls are well described. “3 COOKING MODES: Use the bagel function for that perfect crunchy-chewy ratio or defrost to add just enough time for crispy toaster waffles.” The title adds Defrost and Cancel buttons. A separate bullet explains the bagel mode properly: it “toasts the cut side of your bagel and warms the outer crust; this setting is great for English muffins as well”. Three of the core four, with reheat missing, and seven shade settings. Our toaster for bagels and English muffins guide goes deeper on what a bagel setting should do.
It states anti-jam in plain terms. “SAFER TOASTING: This toaster’s anti-jam function turns off the appliance if any food gets caught or stuck inside.” Only the West Bend also states anti-jam. Even with it, the rule is the same for every toaster: switch off and unplug before you try to free a stuck slice, let it cool, and never use a metal utensil.
The colour field and the title disagree. The title ends “Black” and the cleaning bullet describes “the sleek black toaster finish”, but the colour field says “Basic – New”. The number-of-items field says 2, while everything else on the listing describes one toaster. Neither conflict changes what you get, but both are worth a glance at the checkout page. The model code is RJ31-SS-V3; the listing does not explain the letters, and it does not claim a stainless body.
It is the lowest-powered toaster with a stated figure. 750 watts at 120 volts, against 850 on the GE, 900 on the Amazon Basics and 1000 on the Breville. A lower wattage generally means a longer cycle for the same shade, though the listing makes no claim about toasting time. The slot width is not stated; the title calls it a “Thick Bread and Bagel Toaster” without a number.
What to weigh. A 1-year Chefman warranty and cETL approval are stated. At 2.1 pounds and 10.0 by 6.1 inches, about 61 square inches by our arithmetic, it has the smallest stated footprint on the page. It ranks #58,725 overall and #166 in Toasters, the weakest rank here by a wide margin, and is sold by Amazon.com. On paper it is well equipped for a small black toaster; the market has simply not picked it up the way it has the Amazon Basics or the BLACK+DECKERs.
Pros
- Bagel, Defrost and Cancel named
- 7 shade settings
- Anti-jam shut-off stated
- 1-year warranty and cETL approval stated
- Smallest stated footprint, about 61 sq in by our arithmetic
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- 750W, the lowest stated
- Slot width not stated
- No reheat button
- Colour field says “Basic – New”, not black
- Number-of-items field says 2
- Weakest rank here, #166 in Toasters
Best for: A buyer with little counter space who wants a small black toaster with bagel, defrost, cancel and anti-jam.
10. Seydere Toaster 2 Slices, Wide Slot, Beige (SD-A08) — Best Neutral Colour

The only beige toaster here, with cancel, bagel and defrost named, and a manufacturer field stuffed with the word white.
Key Specifications
| Slot width | Not stated (“Wide Slot”) |
|---|---|
| Shade settings | 6 “temperature settings” |
| Function buttons | Cancel, Bagel, Defrost; reheat mentioned in safety bullet |
| Housing / finish | Beige; material not stated |
| Power | Not stated |
| Dimensions | 11.8 x 6.7 x 7.5 in |
| Listed weight | Not stated |
| Safety | Automatic shutdown, stated |
| Crumb tray | Removable, at the bottom |
| Warranty | Not stated |
| Seller | jianying us |
| Best Sellers Rank | #11,407 overall; #57 in Toasters |
Why We Recommend It
The colour is beige, whatever the listing’s other fields suggest. The title ends “Beige” and the colour field says Beige. The manufacturer field, which should name a company, instead reads “white toaster 2 slice toasters 2 slice wide slot white toaster toaster for bagels”. That is search wording, not a description, and it is probably why a beige toaster turns up when shoppers type white. If you need white, this is not it; the West Bend’s White/Gold is the only white colour field in the set. If you want a soft neutral that is not black or steel, beige is a real option, and the only one here.
It names three functions, and reheat once more. “Three Functions: Toaster has three functions: cancel, bagel and defrosting functions.” Then, in the safety bullet: “if you feel that the bread is not baked enough, you can use the reheat function.” Read literally, that is all four of the core functions mentioned somewhere in the listing. But reheat is not among the three the listing counts, and it is described as a way to add browning, which is not what reheat usually means. We treat it as three stated buttons with a fourth mentioned in passing.
The shades are “temperature settings”. “Temperature Control: The toaster has 6 temperature settings, which can produce 6 flavors of bread.” Six positions, the same count as the Cuisinart, Amazon Basics and T2569B. On a pop-up toaster these settings normally set time rather than temperature; the listing’s wording should not be read as a thermostat.
Safety and cleaning are stated simply. “The toaster has an automatic shutdown function”, one of two listings with auto shut-off. The crumb tray sits at the bottom: “pulls it out, cleans it and then installs it”. The slot is a “Wide Slot” in the title, with no figure.
What to weigh. It is sold by jianying us, not Amazon.com. No weight, no wattage, no warranty and no housing material are stated. Its footprint, 11.8 by 6.7 inches, is about 79.1 square inches by our arithmetic. It ranks #11,407 overall and #57 in Toasters. As a beige toaster with a full function list on paper, it fills a gap nothing else here does; as a documented appliance, it leaves more blanks than any listing on the page except the Savorfuze.
Pros
- Only beige colour on the page
- Cancel, Bagel and Defrost named
- Reheat mentioned in the safety bullet
- 6 shade settings
- Automatic shutdown stated
- Bottom pull-out crumb tray
Cons
- Not white, despite the manufacturer field
- Slot width not stated
- No weight, wattage or warranty stated
- Housing material not stated
- Sold by a third-party seller
- Reheat described as extra browning
Best for: A buyer who wants a soft beige toaster with cancel, bagel and defrost, and can live with a thinly documented listing.
Four Numbers, Six Adjectives: The Slot Widths
Every listing here says its slots are wide. Four say how wide. The table sets the stated widths beside the words the other six use. Millimetre figures and slot areas are our arithmetic.
| Toaster | Slot width as stated | Slot length | Width in mm (ours) | Opening area (ours) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cuisinart CPT-160 | 1.5 in | Not stated | About 38 | — |
| Savorfuze Touch Screen | 1.5 in | Not stated | About 38 | — |
| GE 2 Slice | 1.38 in | 5.50 in | About 35 | About 7.6 sq in |
| Amazon Basics | 1-1/4 in | 5-1/4 in | About 32 | About 6.6 sq in |
| West Bend Timeless | “Extra-wide and deep” | Not stated | — | — |
| Breville Bit More | “Wider slots” | Not stated | — | — |
| BLACK+DECKER T2569B | “Extra-wide” | Not stated | — | — |
| BLACK+DECKER TR1278B | “Extra-wide” | Not stated | — | — |
| Chefman RJ31 | “Thick Bread and Bagel” | Not stated | — | — |
| Seydere SD-A08 | “Wide Slot” | Not stated | — | — |
The stated range is a quarter of an inch. From 1.25 inches on the Amazon Basics to 1.5 on the Cuisinart and Savorfuze, about 32 to 38mm by our conversion. That may look like a rounding error, but a toaster slot works by holding bread close to the elements on both sides. Too narrow and a thick bagel half has to be pushed in; wide and the elements sit further from a thin slice. A wider slot is not automatically better for ordinary sandwich bread. It is better for bagels, thick-cut bread and frozen waffles.
“Extra-wide” is not a measurement. The Amazon Basics calls its 1.25-inch slots “Extra Wide” in its title, the same words BLACK+DECKER uses on two listings with no number. On this page the phrase covers everything from the narrowest stated slot upward. If slot width decides your choice, choose from the four listings that print one, or ask the seller of any other for the figure. Our thick slice toaster guide covers the same question for thicker bread.
Two listings also give a length. The GE at 5.50 inches and the Amazon Basics at 5-1/4. Length decides whether a tall slice of sourdough or a long artisan loaf sits wholly inside the slot or sticks out of the top, untoasted. Eight listings do not say. If you buy bakery bread, it is worth measuring a slice against those two figures.

Bagel, Defrost, Reheat, Cancel: Who Names What
The four buttons most asked about on a two-slice toaster are bagel, which browns the cut face and only warms the crust; defrost, which adds time for frozen bread or waffles; reheat, which warms cold toast without browning it further; and cancel, which pops the toast up early. Here is who names each, in the listing’s own terms.
| Toaster | Bagel | Defrost | Reheat | Cancel | Other |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cuisinart CPT-160 | Yes | Yes | Yes (“preheat” in one bullet) | Yes | LED indicators |
| Seydere SD-A08 | Yes | Yes | Mentioned in safety bullet | Yes | Auto shutdown |
| Amazon Basics | Yes | “Frozen” | Not stated | Yes | Illuminated buttons |
| West Bend Timeless | Yes | Yes | Not stated | Yes | Waffle; backlit icons |
| Chefman RJ31 | Yes | Yes | Not stated | Yes | LED indicator lights |
| BLACK+DECKER TR1278B | Yes | “Frozen items” | Not stated | “End toasting” | — |
| Savorfuze Touch Screen | Not stated | Yes | Yes | Yes | 6 bread programs; touchscreen |
| Breville Bit More | Yes | Yes | Not stated | Not stated | Lift & Look; A Bit More |
| BLACK+DECKER T2569B | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Yes | — |
| GE 2 Slice | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | — |
Cancel and defrost are near-universal; reheat is rare. Eight listings name a cancel function and eight name defrost. Seven name a bagel setting. Only three mention reheat, and one of those, the Seydere, does so only in passing. Reheat is the button the market has quietly dropped, which makes sense: most people eat toast as it pops.
The bagel button is the one to check. A bagel setting usually runs the inner elements, facing the cut side, harder than the outer ones. The Amazon Basics and the Chefman say exactly that. The Savorfuze, the GE and the BLACK+DECKER T2569B all name bagels as something their slots fit, and none of them names a bagel setting. If bagels are a weekly habit, a toaster that only fits them will brown both faces equally, crust included. Our toaster for bagels and English muffins guide covers this in detail.
Extras are where the premium goes. The Breville’s Lift & Look and A Bit More, the Savorfuze’s touchscreen countdown and six bread programs, and the West Bend’s waffle setting are the only functions here beyond the core four. Each answers a specific annoyance. None is a substitute for the bagel button if bagels are what you eat.
Stainless in Writing, Plastic Nowhere
For the best 2 slice toaster in stainless steel, the only fair test is what the listing says. Here is every housing and colour statement on the page, verbatim.
| Toaster | Colour field | Title wording | Housing material stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Savorfuze Touch Screen | Silver | Full Stainless Steel | Yes: “built with high-quality stainless steel” |
| Breville Bit More | Stainless Steel | Brushed Stainless Steel | Bullet calls it a “stainless steel toaster” |
| Cuisinart CPT-160 | Brushed Stainless | Stainless Steel | Finish only |
| GE 2 Slice | Stainless Steel | Stainless Steel Toaster | Finish only |
| Amazon Basics | Black & Silver | Black & Silver | Not stated |
| West Bend Timeless | White/Gold | White/Gold | Not stated |
| BLACK+DECKER T2569B | Black | — | Not stated |
| BLACK+DECKER TR1278B | Black | — | Not stated |
| Chefman RJ31 | Basic – New | Black | Not stated (“black toaster finish”) |
| Seydere SD-A08 | Beige | Beige | Not stated |
Four commit to stainless, in three degrees. The Savorfuze describes the body as stainless and contrasts it with plastic. The Breville names stainless in the title, the colour field and a bullet. The Cuisinart and the GE name it in title and colour field only. All four are fair candidates for a stainless toaster; the Savorfuze is the only one whose listing would support a complaint if any exterior panel turned out to be something else.
Not one listing says plastic. Six name no housing material at all. That is not evidence that they are plastic, and it is not evidence that they are not. A listing that does not name its material is simply leaving the question to you. The Amazon Basics’ “Black & Silver” and the Savorfuze’s “Silver” show why a colour word is not a material: silver can be paint, plating or steel.
Stainless costs you weight and, sometimes, cool-touch. The Breville, at 5.1 pounds, is the heaviest listing here. No listing on the page claims cool-touch walls, so assume any metal body gets hot during a cycle and keep it clear of curtains, wall cupboards and anything that should not be warmed.
White Means One Toaster Here
The “best white 2 slice toaster” is a common search, and this set answers it thinly. One colour field of ten contains the word white: the West Bend Timeless, “White/Gold”. It names four backlit buttons, seven browning levels, anti-jam and auto shut-off, and is sold by Amazon.com. It does not state a slot width, wattage or warranty.
The nearest alternative is beige, not white. The Seydere’s colour field and title say Beige; only its manufacturer field repeats the word white, as search terms. It names cancel, bagel and defrost, but is sold by a third-party seller and states no weight, wattage or warranty. If white and gold reads as too decorative and you want a soft colour, it is the only other non-black, non-steel choice here. For more retro colourways, our vintage toaster guide looks at styled toasters.
A white toaster needs a different cleaning habit. Light finishes show scorch marks near the slots and fingerprints around the lever more than black or brushed steel. Unplug and let it cool, then wipe the outside with a damp cloth; never immerse a toaster or spray liquid into the slots. Our easy clean toaster roundup covers designs made to make that easier.
Popularity Follows the Black Toasters
Star ratings were not captured for this roundup, so the only popularity measure is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank, as returned on 5 October 2026. All ten are filed in Toasters, so the category ranks compare directly, but they move constantly; read the order, not the precise numbers.
| Toaster | Rank in Toasters | Overall rank | Slot width stated | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Basics | #4 | #242 | 1.25 in | Black & Silver |
| BLACK+DECKER T2569B | #6 | #424 | Not stated | Black |
| BLACK+DECKER TR1278B | #7 | #638 | Not stated | Black |
| Savorfuze Touch Screen | #13 | #1,762 | 1.5 in | Full Stainless Steel |
| GE 2 Slice | #16 | #2,112 | 1.38 in | Stainless Steel |
| Breville Bit More | #17 | #2,148 | Not stated | Brushed Stainless Steel |
| Cuisinart CPT-160 | #22 | #3,592 | 1.5 in | Brushed Stainless |
| West Bend Timeless | #48 | #8,221 | Not stated | White/Gold |
| Seydere SD-A08 | #57 | #11,407 | Not stated | Beige |
| Chefman RJ31 | #166 | #58,725 | Not stated | Black |
The top three are black, and only one prints a slot width. The Amazon Basics and both BLACK+DECKERs hold the three best ranks. None names a housing material. Whatever drives those sales, it is not stainless or a long specification. The four stainless toasters sit together from #13 to #22, a tight cluster that suggests a distinct stainless buyer. The only white and the only beige toasters come next, at #48 and #57.
Best Alternatives
| Alternative | Why Consider It | Better For | Main Trade-Off |
|---|---|---|---|
| A toaster with published wide slots; see our extra wide toaster roundup | Chosen for stated slot widths | Bagels and thick bread | Often larger bodies |
| A slimline toaster; see our slimline toaster roundup | Narrow bodies for tight counters | Small kitchens | Slots can be narrower |
| An easy-clean design; see our easy clean toaster roundup | Crumb trays and wipeable finishes first | Light colours and busy households | Fewer function buttons on some |
| A four-slice toaster | Two pairs of slots and often two sets of controls | Families toasting at once | Roughly double the counter footprint |
What Each Step Up Actually Buys
The plain black toasters — BLACK+DECKER T2569B and TR1278B, Chefman. Six or seven shades, between one and three named buttons, no slot figure and no stated housing material. The T2569B adds a two-year warranty; the TR1278B adds bagel and frozen controls at 1.5 pounds; the Chefman adds anti-jam and a stated 750 watts. These are the toasters the market buys most, two of them in the top three.
The documented budget toaster — Amazon Basics. The step up from the plain black group buys paperwork: a measured 1.25 by 5.25 inch slot, 900 watts, three named buttons and a stated cord length. It does not buy a warranty or a stated housing material. It is the best-ranked toaster on the page.
The colour options — West Bend and Seydere. The step sideways buys a finish that is not black or steel. The West Bend’s White/Gold comes with the best safety statement here, anti-jam and auto shut-off, and four backlit buttons. The Seydere’s Beige comes with three named functions and very little else on paper.
The stainless toasters — GE, Savorfuze, Cuisinart, Breville. Stepping up to stainless buys the finish, and in three of four cases a measured slot. The GE adds 850 watts and the largest stated slot opening, with no buttons named. The Savorfuze adds a described stainless body, a touchscreen and reheat, without a bagel button. The Cuisinart adds all four core buttons and the longest warranty. The Breville adds 1000 watts, mid-cycle checking and the extra-time button, at 5.1 pounds and the premium end of the set.
Rank does not track features. The best-ranked toaster here names three buttons and no housing material; the only one with all four buttons is seventh by rank. On this page, the extra you pay goes on finish, controls and warranty; the market’s favourites are the simplest toasters in the set.

What to Check Before You Buy
Get the Slot Width in Inches
Four listings of ten give it, from 1.25 to 1.5 inches. “Extra-wide” appears on the narrowest stated slot as well as on listings that give no number. If you toast bagels or thick bread, 1.5 inches is the comfortable figure on this page; ask the seller of any listing that does not print one.
Check the Slot Length for Bakery Bread
Only the GE, at 5.50 inches, and the Amazon Basics, at 5-1/4, give a length. A slice taller than the slot will brown at the bottom and stay pale at the top. Measure a slice of the bread you buy most often against those figures before choosing.
Count the Buttons You Will Use
Bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel are all named only on the Cuisinart. Eight name cancel and eight name defrost, seven name bagel and three mention reheat. The GE names none. Decide which you actually press each week; for most people, bagel and defrost matter far more than reheat.
Read Stainless as a Claim, Not a Colour
Four listings say stainless. Only the Savorfuze describes a stainless body; the Breville adds a bullet; the Cuisinart and GE state a finish. “Silver” and “Black & Silver” are colours, not materials. If a steel body matters, buy a listing that says so in a bullet or ask.
Confirm the Colour Field, Not the Search Words
One colour field says white, the West Bend’s White/Gold. The Seydere’s manufacturer field says white several times and its colour field says Beige. The Chefman’s title says Black and its colour field says “Basic – New”. Check the colour shown at checkout before you pay.
Look for the Crumb Tray Position
All ten have a removable tray, but it sits at the back on the Amazon Basics, the front on the Breville and the bottom on the Seydere and the TR1278B. A rear tray means turning the toaster round. Empty it often whatever its position: built-up crumbs under the elements can smoke and are a real fire risk.
Know the Safety Basics Before the First Slice
Two listings state anti-jam, the West Bend and the Chefman, and two state auto shut-off, the West Bend and the Seydere. None of that changes the rules. Never put a knife, fork or any metal utensil into a toaster, even when it is off. Switch off and unplug before clearing a jam, and let it cool. Keep the toaster clear of curtains and wall cupboards, and never leave it running unattended.

Common Mistakes
- Reading “extra-wide” as a number. The Amazon Basics calls its 1.25-inch slots extra-wide, the narrowest stated width on the page.
- Assuming every toaster has a bagel button. The GE, Savorfuze and BLACK+DECKER T2569B name bagels as fitting, not as a setting.
- Buying by title between the two BLACK+DECKERs. Both share one title; the TR1278B names three controls and the T2569B names one.
- Taking silver for stainless. Only four of ten say stainless; “Silver” and “Black & Silver” are colours, not materials.
- Trusting search words for colour. The Seydere’s manufacturer field says white; its colour field says Beige.
- Trusting the word compact. The T2569B calls itself compact and has the largest footprint here, about 118 sq in by our arithmetic.
- Letting crumbs build up. All ten have a removable tray; a full one under hot elements is a fire risk, so empty it often.
- Freeing a jam with a fork. Never put metal into a toaster; switch off, unplug and let it cool first, anti-jam or not.
Who Should Buy Which
Buy the Cuisinart CPT-160 if you want every common button and a stainless finish. Bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel all named, 1.5-inch slots, six shades, Brushed Stainless and a 3-year limited warranty, the longest here. Accept that no wattage is stated.
Buy the Amazon Basics if you want the best-ranked toaster with measured slots. 5-1/4 by 1-1/4 inch slots, 900 watts, bagel, frozen and cancel, #4 in Toasters. Accept the narrowest stated slot, a rear crumb tray and no stated warranty.
Buy the West Bend Timeless if you want a white toaster. The only White/Gold colour field here, with bagel, waffle, defrost and cancel, seven levels, anti-jam and auto shut-off. Accept that slot width, wattage and warranty are not stated.
Buy the GE if you want stainless and a plain dial. Stainless Steel, 1.38 by 5.50 inch slots, seven shades, 850 watts and a 1-year warranty. Accept that no function buttons are named at all.
Buy the Breville Bit More if you care about the last shade of brown. Lift & Look, A Bit More, bagel and defrost, 1000 watts, brushed stainless and a front crumb tray. Accept 5.1 pounds, no shade count and no named cancel.
Buy the Savorfuze if a stainless body matters most. The only listing that describes the body as stainless, 1.5-inch slots, reheat, defrost, cancel and a touchscreen countdown. Accept no bagel button, no weight, wattage or warranty, and a third-party seller.
Buy the BLACK+DECKER T2569B if you toast bread and want a warranty. #6 in Toasters, six shades and a 2-year limited warranty. Accept that cancel is the only named button and that it is the largest toaster here.
Buy the BLACK+DECKER TR1278B if you want a light black toaster with bagel and defrost. #7 in Toasters, a 1–7 knob and 1.5 pounds listed. Accept no slot figure and no stated warranty.
Buy the Chefman if counter space is tight. The smallest stated footprint, seven shades, bagel, defrost, cancel and anti-jam. Accept 750 watts, the lowest stated, and the weakest rank here.
Buy the Seydere if you want beige. The only beige finish, with cancel, bagel and defrost named and auto shut-off stated. Accept that it is not white, and that weight, wattage and warranty are not stated.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best 2 slice toaster?
On the evidence of the listings, the Cuisinart 2-Slice Toaster, model CPT-160. It is the only one of the ten here that names all four common function buttons, bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel, and it pairs them with a measured 1.5-inch slot, six shade settings, a brushed stainless finish and a limited 3-year warranty, the longest stated on the page. It is sold by Amazon.com. Its main gap is that the listing gives no wattage. If budget comes first, the Amazon Basics 2 Slice Toaster is the best-ranked toaster here, #4 in Toasters, with the most precise slot specification, 5-1/4 by 1-1/4 inches, plus 900 watts and bagel, frozen and cancel buttons, though no warranty is stated. If you want a white toaster, the West Bend Timeless in White/Gold is the only white colour field in the set.
What is the best 2 slice toaster in stainless steel?
Four listings here say stainless steel: the Cuisinart CPT-160, the GE 2 Slice, the Breville Bit More and the Savorfuze touch-screen toaster. They say it to different degrees. The Savorfuze describes the body itself as built with high-quality stainless steel and calls itself Full Stainless Steel, the strongest claim. The Breville names stainless in the title, the colour field and a bullet. The Cuisinart and the GE state it in the title and colour field. Of the four, the Cuisinart has the fullest controls, all four common buttons and a 3-year warranty. The Breville has the most power, 1000 watts, and unique Lift & Look and A Bit More buttons. The GE is the simplest, with seven shades and no named buttons. The Savorfuze has the best rank of the four, #13 in Toasters, but no bagel button.
What is the best white 2 slice toaster?
Of the ten toasters here, exactly one has a colour field containing the word white: the West Bend Timeless 2-Slice Toaster, listed as White/Gold. It names four functions with backlit icons, bagel, waffle, defrost and cancel, offers seven browning levels and a high-lift lever, and states both anti-jam and auto shut-off, the only toaster here with both. It is sold by Amazon.com and ranks #48 in Toasters. Its listing does not state a slot width, wattage or warranty, and White/Gold suggests a two-tone finish rather than plain white. The Seydere toaster appears in white searches because its manufacturer field repeats the word white, but its colour field and title both say Beige. If you need a toaster in plain white with a measured slot, none of these ten listings offers that combination.
How wide should the slots be on a 2 slice toaster?
For ordinary sandwich bread, almost any slot works. For bagels, thick-cut bread and frozen waffles, wider is easier. On this page, four listings give a width: 1.25 inches on the Amazon Basics, 1.38 on the GE, and 1.5 on the Cuisinart and the Savorfuze. That is about 32 to 38 millimetres by our conversion. A 1.5-inch slot takes most supermarket bagel halves comfortably; at 1.25 inches a thick bagel may need a push. The other six listings describe their slots as wide, wider or extra-wide without a number, and the Amazon Basics uses extra-wide for the narrowest stated slot, so the word is not a guide. Length matters too for bakery loaves; only the GE, 5.50 inches, and the Amazon Basics, 5-1/4 inches, state one.
Do I need a bagel button on a toaster?
If you eat bagels or English muffins often, yes. A bagel setting browns the cut face while only warming the rounded crust, which is how a bagel is meant to be toasted. Without it, both sides brown equally and the crust can turn hard. Seven of the ten listings here name a bagel setting: the Cuisinart, Amazon Basics, West Bend, Chefman, Breville, Seydere and BLACK+DECKER TR1278B. The Amazon Basics describes it as toasting just the cut side; the Chefman says it toasts the cut side and warms the outer crust. Three listings name bagels only as something their slots fit, with no setting: the GE, the Savorfuze and the BLACK+DECKER T2569B. If you rarely toast bagels, a wide slot is enough and the missing button will not matter.
What do defrost and reheat do on a toaster?
Defrost adds time to the cycle so frozen bread or frozen waffles thaw and then brown to the shade you chose, rather than coming out warm in the middle and pale outside. Eight listings here name it, two of them as Frozen. Reheat runs a short, gentle cycle to warm toast that has gone cold without browning it further. It is much rarer: only the Cuisinart and the Savorfuze name it as a control, and the Seydere mentions it in passing as a way to add more browning, which is not the usual meaning. Most households use defrost far more than reheat. If you keep sliced bread in the freezer or eat toaster waffles, put defrost on your must-have list; reheat is a convenience you will probably not miss.
Is a stainless steel toaster better than a plastic one?
It depends on what you want, and on this page the question is harder than it looks because no listing says plastic. Six of the ten name no housing material at all. Stainless steel generally looks more premium, resists stains and wipes clean, and the Savorfuze listing adds that a metal body helps reduce odours it associates with low-grade plastic. Against that, a metal body can be heavier, the Breville lists 5.1 pounds, and metal walls get hot during a cycle; none of these listings claims cool-touch walls. A painted or plastic-bodied toaster is often lighter and can stay cooler to the touch, but those listings here do not describe their bodies, so we cannot say. If material matters, buy from the four listings that say stainless, or ask the seller.
How do I use and clean a 2 slice toaster safely?
Start with the basics. Never put a knife, fork or any metal utensil into a toaster, even when it is switched off, because the elements and wiring sit just inside the slots. If a slice jams, switch off, unplug the toaster and let it cool before you try to free it, ideally with wooden tongs. Two listings here state anti-jam, the West Bend and the Chefman, and two state auto shut-off, the West Bend and the Seydere, but neither replaces those habits. Empty the crumb tray regularly: all ten have a removable one, and crumbs left under hot elements can smoke and catch fire. Keep the toaster away from curtains and wall cupboards, do not run it unattended, and clean the outside only with a damp cloth once it is unplugged and cool.
Final Verdict
All four buttons named, 1.5-inch slots, brushed stainless and a 3-year warranty, sold by Amazon.com.
The best rank here, #4 in Toasters, with 5-1/4 x 1-1/4 inch slots, 900W and three named buttons.
The only white colour field of ten, with four backlit buttons, anti-jam and auto shut-off.
Ten two-slice toasters call themselves wide, and four say how wide. The stated range is 1.25 to 1.5 inches, about 32 to 38mm by our conversion, and the narrowest of those four is sold as extra-wide. The other six give an adjective. If slot width decides your choice, choose from the four numbers.
The buttons split the page more than the slots do. Only the Cuisinart names bagel, defrost, reheat and cancel. Eight name cancel, eight defrost, seven bagel and three reheat. The GE names none, and one BLACK+DECKER names only cancel while its identically titled sibling names three.
Stainless is common here; white is not. Four listings say stainless, and only the Savorfuze describes the body itself as steel. None says plastic. One colour field says white, the West Bend’s White/Gold; the Seydere’s manufacturer field says white and its colour field says Beige. So buy by the colour field, the slot figure and the named buttons, not the adjectives. And whichever you choose, keep metal out of the slots, unplug before clearing a jam and empty the crumb tray often.
If you buy one 2 slice toaster from this page, make it the Cuisinart CPT-160: all four common buttons, a 1.5-inch slot, a brushed stainless finish and the longest warranty here, three years. If budget comes first, the Amazon Basics is the best-ranked and best-measured toaster in the set; if you want white, the West Bend Timeless is the only one.
