If Weight Means Thirst, Only Two Best Dish Towels Show the Scale

Every one of the ten dish towel listings on this page promises absorbency: “highly absorbent”, “super absorbent”, “maximum absorbency”. Absorbency in a cotton towel comes mostly from how much cotton there is in each square metre, and the textile trade has a number for that: GSM, grams per square metre. Read the ten listings side by side and only two give it.

White Classic prints 410 GSM in its title, and Homaxy’s larger 6-pack prints 390 GSM in a bullet. The other eight use adjectives. Where a listing gives no GSM, its weight can stand in, roughly: divide weight by pack count and towel area, which is our arithmetic, and the Homaxy comes out at about 403 grams per square metre against its stated 390. Not one of the ten offers a warranty.

So this guide sorts the ten by what each listing lets you know about absorbency: a stated GSM first, then the weave and the weight, then the size, pack count, loop, lint warning and warranty. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only, as of 5 October 2026.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. GSM is copied only where a listing prints it. “Not stated” means the listing gives no figure. Weave is recorded in the listing’s own words; none of the ten says waffle, flour sack or herringbone. Zeppoli’s title, spec table and item count say 15 towels at 14 x 25 inches; one bullet says a 12-pack at 15 x 25, and we show both. Ranks are as returned on 5 October 2026 and move constantly.

How We Chose These Ten

We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read each listing’s claims about its cotton, its weave, its size and its care instructions line by line. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these towels.

  • Kitchen and dish towels only — every product is a multi-pack of woven or terry towels sold for drying dishes, hands and worktops. Microfibre cloths, sponge cloths, single bar mops and paper towels were not in the running.
  • New units only — every buy box was a new product, in stock on amazon.com, at capture.
  • GSM recorded exactly as printed — only two listings give one, and we copy it as given. Where a listing gives no GSM we say so, and never fill the gap with a figure of our own in the comparison table.
  • Weight set against size, labelled as ours — where a listing gives a weight, a pack count and a towel size, we divided the weight by the pack count and the area of one towel to get a rough grams-per-square-metre figure. That figure is our arithmetic. A listed weight may include packaging, and we flag every case where the figure looks like a parcel rather than a towel.
  • Weave in the listing’s own words — terry, dobby, basket-woven, flat, textured. Where a title and a bullet use different words, we report both.
  • Small print counted — hanging loop, “wash before use” and lint wording, fabric-softener warnings and warranty, each logged only where the listing states it.
  • Conflicts reported, not resolved — where two fields on one listing disagree, such as Zeppoli’s pack count, we show both figures.
  • Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only — ranks are quoted exactly as returned on 5 October 2026, overall and in the category Amazon assigned. Amazon files these ten in three categories, one of which, Fingertip Towels, is not a kitchen category at all.

The Ten Dish Towel Sets in Detail

1. White Classic Premium Dish Towels for Kitchen, 8 Pack, 16×26, Thick 410 GSM, KT-2Multi-534 — Best Overall

A stack of folded cotton kitchen towels in several solid colours with a small loop at one corner

The highest GSM printed on the page, and the only listing that pairs a stated GSM with a hanging loop.

Key Specifications

Size 16 x 26 in
Pack 8 towels
Fabric 100% ring-spun cotton
Weave Not named; “extra dense 410 GSM texture”
GSM 410, stated in title and first bullet
Hanging loop Yes, on each towel
Lint “Low-lint” claimed; no wash-before-use note
Care Delicate cycle, cold water, tumble dry low
Warranty Not stated
Model KT-2Multi-534
Best Sellers Rank #647 overall; #1 in Fingertip Towels

Why We Recommend It

This is the thickest towel on the page by the only measure anyone prints. The title says “Thick 410 GSM”, and the first bullet repeats it: “Extra dense 410 GSM texture ensures a gentle soft feel, low-lint, and maximum absorbency.” Homaxy’s 390 is the only other GSM on the page. The remaining eight give none. GSM is not a guarantee of how fast a towel drinks, since weave and yarn play their part, but it is the one figure that tells you how much cotton you are buying per square metre, and 410 is the highest figure stated here.

It is the only listing that pairs a GSM with a hanging loop. “Each kitchen towel includes a handy hanging loop for easy storage.” Only one other listing, the Bumble, mentions a loop at all. That is a small thing until you count the hooks in your kitchen: a towel that hangs from a hook dries faster than one folded over an oven handle, and a towel that dries faster between uses is a towel that smells fresher for longer.

The size is mid-table and the pack is generous. Eight towels at 16 by 26 inches each, the same footprint as the KitchenAid. That is about 416 square inches per towel by our arithmetic, smaller than the Bumble’s 560 or the Lane Linen’s 504, larger than the 15 by 25 inch sets. Across the pack, eight towels give roughly the same total cloth as the six larger Bumble towels, by our arithmetic. The bullet calls them “extra-large”, which on this page they are not; they are average.

The weave goes unnamed. White Classic describes the cloth as “Extra dense” with a “strong weave and reinforced hems”, but never says terry, waffle, flat or anything else. At 410 GSM it is heavier than a typical flat or flour-sack towel, so a looped or textured pile is the likely build, but the listing does not say, and we will not guess. If you specifically want a flat, lint-light towel for glassware, this listing does not tell you whether that is what you are getting.

The lint story is a claim with no first-wash note. It says “low-lint”, and unlike Bumble, Homaxy and Utopia it gives no instruction to wash before first use. Care is “delicate cycle in cold water and tumble dry on low to preserve softness and absorbency”. That is a gentler routine than most kitchen towels get, and worth knowing before you put them in with the hot wash. The listing also gives no weight, so its 410 is the one GSM on the page we cannot cross-check against a listed weight.

What to weigh. It ranks #647 overall, and Amazon files it as #1 in Fingertip Towels, a bathroom category, which says more about the filing than the towel. No warranty is stated. The multicolour pack is one of several colourways the listing names, black, navy, green and red among them. On the listings alone, it gives you more of the facts that predict absorbency than any other set here.

Pros

  • 410 GSM stated, the highest here
  • Hanging loop on every towel
  • 100% ring-spun cotton
  • Eight towels per pack
  • Reinforced hems stated
  • “Low-lint” claimed

Cons

  • Weave not named
  • No listed weight to check the GSM against
  • Delicate, cold-wash care
  • “Extra-large” is average on this page
  • No warranty stated

Best for: A buyer who wants the highest stated GSM, a loop on every towel and enough towels to rotate daily.

2. Homaxy Large Premium Cotton Kitchen Towels 16 x 28, 6 Pack, Grey, XWJ030 — Best Absorbent

Folded grey terry cotton kitchen towels stacked on a light worktop

A stated 390 GSM terry, and the one GSM on the page that a listed weight lets you check.

Key Specifications

Size 16 x 28 in
Pack 6 towels
Fabric 100% ring-spun cotton
Weave Terry, “high-density 390 GSM”
GSM 390, stated
Hanging loop Not stated
Lint Wash before first use to remove manufacturing lint
Care Wash separately, warm water, tumble dry low
Listed weight 1.54 lb for the pack
Warranty Not stated
Model XWJ030
Best Sellers Rank #1,729 overall; #23 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels

Why We Recommend It

This is the only GSM on the page you can check. The second bullet says “With a high-density 390 GSM terry construction, these kitchen hand towels outperform paper towels”. The spec table gives the pack a weight of about 1.54 pounds, six towels and a size of 16 by 28 inches. Divide one by the others, which is our arithmetic, and each towel works out at about 116 grams over about 0.29 square metres: roughly 403 grams per square metre. That is within about 3% of the stated 390, and a few grams of packaging would explain the difference. On this page, that agreement is unusual. It is the only case where two independent fields on a listing tell the same absorbency story.

It names its weave, and the weave suits the number. Terry is a looped pile, and the loops are what give a towel its surface area for picking up water. A 390 GSM terry is a heavy kitchen towel by any standard, close to White Classic’s 410. Of the five listings here that say terry, this is the only one that also gives a weight per square metre, so it is the only terry on the page whose thickness you know.

The towel is long. 16 by 28 inches is about 448 square inches per towel, our arithmetic, third-largest on the page behind the Bumble and the Lane Linen. The extra two inches over a 16 by 26 inch towel matter more than they sound when the towel hangs over an oven door: the longer drop is what you grab.

It tells you about the lint. “For best results, wash your new kitchen towels before the first use to remove any manufacturing lint. To maintain their quality, wash separately from other fabrics using warm water and tumble dry on low heat.” That is an honest instruction for a heavy terry towel, which sheds most in its first few washes. Wash these separately before you dry a wine glass with one.

Same brand, different towel. Homaxy also sells the 4-pack further down this page. The two listings carry different model numbers, XWJ030 here and XWJ005-A there, different sizes, 16 by 28 against 13 by 28 inches, and only this one states a GSM. They are not the same product in a different pack size. This is the larger, heavier, better-documented of the two.

What to weigh. It ranks #1,729 overall and #23 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels, the second-weakest rank on the page, so few shoppers have found it. No hanging loop is stated and no warranty. The listing also suggests using them “as napkins, placemats”, which at 390 GSM terry you probably will not. As a drying towel with a number behind it, it is the best-supported absorbency claim here.

Pros

  • 390 GSM stated
  • Listed weight agrees with the GSM by our arithmetic
  • Terry weave named
  • 16 x 28 in, third-largest here
  • Clear first-wash lint instruction
  • 100% ring-spun cotton

Cons

  • No hanging loop stated
  • No warranty stated
  • Six towels, not eight
  • Heavy terry sheds at first; wash separately
  • Weak rank, #1,729 overall
  • Warm wash, separate load

Best for: A buyer who wants a heavy terry drying towel with a GSM that checks out against its weight.

3. Bumble Premium Kitchen Towels 6 Pack, 100% Cotton, 20 x 28, Grey, 4018-GY — Largest Towel

Grey cotton kitchen towels in flat and looped textures folded beside a fabric tote bag

The largest towel on the page, a hanging loop and the best rank, with the third texture left unnamed.

Key Specifications

Size 20 x 28 in
Pack 6 towels, “three different textures”
Fabric 100% ring-spun cotton
Weave Flat and terry named; third texture not named
GSM Not stated
Hanging loop Yes, plus a tote bag
Lint Wash before first use to remove excess lint; wash separately
Care Machine wash warm, tumble dry low
Listed weight 1.68 lb for the pack
Warranty Not stated
Model 4018-GY
Best Sellers Rank #135 overall; #1 in Kitchen Linen Sets

Why We Recommend It

This is the biggest towel here, and by a margin. 20 by 28 inches is about 560 square inches per towel, our arithmetic. The next largest, the Lane Linen at 18 by 28, is about 504. The smallest, Homaxy’s 13 by 28 inch towel, is about 364. A towel half again as big as the narrowest on the page dries more dishes before it is wet through, simply because there is more of it, whatever its GSM.

It is three towels in one pack, and only two are named. “6-PACK: Contains three different textures of towels, including a flat towel and terry towel.” The third texture goes unnamed. That mix is a sensible idea: a flat towel for glasses and a terry for pots and hands. But the listing does not say how many of each come in the six, or what the third one is. If you want six identical towels, this is not the pack; if you want a spread of textures for different jobs, it is the only one on the page that offers it.

No GSM, but the weight gives a rough guide. The listing gives about 1.68 pounds for six towels. Spread over six 20 by 28 inch towels, that is about 352 grams per square metre by our arithmetic, assuming the weight is the towels and not the tote bag and packaging as well. That places it below the two stated GSMs and above most of the rest, and because it is an average across three textures, the terry towels will be heavier than that and the flat ones lighter.

It has the loop and the lint warning. “HANGING LOOP & BONUS TOTE BAG INCLUDED”, it says, one of only two listings to mention a loop. The care bullet is the most complete lint instruction on the page: “We recommend to wash before the first use to remove any excess lint leftover from the manufacturing process. Always wash your towels separately to avoid transfer of lint onto your garments.” Machine wash warm, tumble dry low.

The bestseller of the ten. It ranks #135 overall and #1 in Kitchen Linen Sets, the best overall rank on the page. KitchenAid is close behind at #153; no other set is within 150 places. The tote bag and the line about a gift explain part of that. The size, the loop and the textures explain the rest of what the listing can show you.

What to weigh. No GSM, no warranty, and a third texture you will not know until it arrives. The seller is The Bumble Shop. If size matters most, and for drying a full rack of dishes it often does, this is the towel to beat.

Pros

  • 20 x 28 in, the largest towel here
  • Hanging loop stated
  • Flat and terry textures in one pack
  • Fullest lint and care instruction on the page
  • Best rank, #135 overall
  • Tote bag included

Cons

  • No GSM stated
  • Third texture not named
  • Mix of each texture not stated
  • No warranty stated
  • Weight may include the tote bag
  • Must be washed separately at first

Best for: A buyer who wants the largest towels on the page, a mix of flat and terry, and a loop to hang them.

4. Utopia Towels Kitchen Towels 12 Pack, 15 x 25 Inch, 100% Cotton Popcorn Terry, Black — Best Bulk Terry

A neat stack of black textured cotton kitchen towels on a pale worktop

Hanging loop Not stated

Care Machine wash, tumble dry low
Listed weight 2.0 lb for the pack
Warranty “No warranty.”
Model UTKITCHENTOWEL6BLACK
Best Sellers Rank #993 overall; #11 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels

Why We Recommend It

Twelve towels is the point. “This kitchen towel set includes 12 premium cotton towels in a classic dobby weave style, each measuring 15×25 inches. Stock your kitchen with enough towels to always have a fresh, clean one ready whenever you need it most.” For a household that changes towels daily, twelve is two weeks with a wash in the middle. Only Zeppoli, with 15 by its title, packs more, and the other Utopia matches it.

The title and the bullets name different weaves. The title says “Popcorn Terry”. The bullets say “classic dobby weave”, twice. These are not the same thing. Popcorn terry is a looped pile with a nubbly, raised texture; dobby is a woven pattern made on a dobby loom, which can be added to terry or used on a flat cloth. The two can coexist, a terry towel with a dobby border is common, but the listing never says which part is which. We report both.

The weight suggests a mid-weight towel. 2.0 pounds for twelve 15 by 25 inch towels is about 76 grams a towel, or about 312 grams per square metre by our arithmetic. That is below the two stated GSMs and the Bumble, and above the flat-feel sets. For a 15 by 25 inch terry, it is a plausible everyday weight.

It says no warranty, in so many words. The spec table reads “No warranty.” KitchenAid is the only other listing to say so. The other eight are silent. On a towel, a warranty matters less than on an appliance, but if you were hoping for a replacement promise when the hems go, the listing has already answered you.

The model code and the pack size disagree. The model field reads UTKITCHENTOWEL6BLACK, which reads like a 6-pack code. The title, the size field and the item count all say 12. Three fields against one; the 12 is very likely right, but it is the kind of conflict worth knowing about if you reorder by model number. It is also a different model from the other Utopia on this page, UT0219, and a different weave description, so the two are not the same towel.

What to weigh. It ranks #993 overall and #11 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels. No loop, no GSM and no lint note. The listing does say the towels “remain soft, absorbent, and durable wash after wash”, and it is the only listing here to give a release date, 2014.

Pros

  • Twelve towels per pack
  • Terry named in the title
  • 100% ring-spun cotton
  • Mid-weight by our arithmetic
  • Simple machine wash and low tumble dry
  • Release date of 2014 given

Cons

  • “No warranty” stated
  • Title says popcorn terry, bullets say dobby
  • No GSM stated
  • No hanging loop stated
  • No lint or first-wash note
  • Model code says 6, pack says 12

Best for: A household that wants a fortnight of terry towels in one order and does not need a loop.

5. Infinitee Xclusives Kitchen Towels, 6 Pack, Cotton Dish Towel, 15 x 25, Grey, KT-AK-06 — Best Dobby Terry

Grey cotton terry kitchen towels with a woven border folded in a row

Ring-spun terry with a dobby weave, a wash-before-use note, and a weight that looks like the parcel.

Key Specifications

Size 15 x 25 in
Pack 6 towels
Fabric 100% ring-spun cotton
Weave Terry; “100% cotton dobby weave”
GSM Not stated
Hanging loop Not stated
Lint Wash before first use recommended; lint not mentioned
Care Machine wash, tumble dry low
Listed weight 1.411 lb, with 12.5 x 5 x 4 in dimensions
Warranty Not stated
Model KT-AK-06
Best Sellers Rank #589 overall; #6 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels

Why We Recommend It

It names both of its constructions. “Each terry towel is made of 100% cotton dobby weave, giving them an incredibly ultra-soft feel and absorbency to dry effectively.” Of the two listings that say dobby, this is the one that also says terry consistently, in the first bullet, the second and the fourth. Read together, that is a terry towel with a dobby-woven pattern, which is a common and sensible build for a kitchen towel: the loops drink, the woven band keeps the shape.

The weight field looks like a box. The listing gives 1.411 pounds, and its dimension fields read 12.5 by 5 by 4 inches, which describe a packed bundle, not an unfolded towel. If that weight is the towels alone, it works out at about 441 grams per square metre by our arithmetic, higher than either stated GSM on the page. That would be remarkable for a 15 by 25 inch towel. A packed weight is the more likely reading, so we do not lean on that figure, and it is the clearest case on the page of why a weight is only a rough guide.

It asks for a first wash. “It is recommended that you wash these cotton kitchen towels before first use.” It does not say why. New cotton towels are often finished with sizing that makes them look crisp on the shelf and repels water until it is washed out, and terry sheds loose fibre in its first few washes; either is a good reason to follow the advice.

The size is the common 15 by 25. About 375 square inches per towel, our arithmetic, matching both Utopia sets. That is a hand-and-dish size rather than a big drying cloth. Six towels at that size is the smallest total amount of cloth among the 6-packs on this page.

The durability claim is a big one. “Our cotton kitchen dish cloths maintain their premium feel and classic design even after hundreds of washes.” Homaxy makes the same “hundreds of washes” claim for its 6-pack. Neither offers a warranty to stand behind it.

What to weigh. It ranks #589 overall and #6 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels, fifth-best on the page. No GSM, no loop, no warranty. If you want a towel whose listing names terry and dobby plainly, this is it; if you want a number, look at White Classic or Homaxy.

Pros

  • Terry and dobby weave both named
  • 100% ring-spun cotton
  • Wash-before-use advised
  • Common 15 x 25 in size
  • Fifth-best rank, #589 overall
  • Durability claim spelled out

Cons

  • No GSM stated
  • Weight field looks like a packed weight
  • No hanging loop stated
  • No warranty stated
  • Smallest total cloth of the 6-packs
  • Lint not mentioned

Best for: A buyer who wants a mid-size terry towel with a woven pattern and is happy to wash before first use.

6. Zeppoli Classic Dish Towels, 15 Pack, 14 x 25, 100% Cotton, Blue Stripe, RYL-18KT — Most Towels per Pack

A tall stack of white kitchen towels with a blue stripe along each edge

The biggest pack on the page by its title, with a bullet that describes a smaller one.

Key Specifications

Size 14 x 25 in (title); 15 x 25 in (bullet)
Pack 15 towels (title, spec, item count); 12 (bullet)
Fabric 100% natural cotton
Weave Basket-woven
GSM Not stated; “lightweight”
Hanging loop Not stated
Lint “Lint-free” and “designed to minimize lint”
Care Washer and dryer; resists shrinkage
Listed weight 2.17 lb for the pack
Warranty Not stated
Model RYL-18KT
Best Sellers Rank #1,142 overall; #14 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels

Why We Recommend It

Fifteen towels, or twelve, depending on where you read. The title says “15 Pack – 14” by 25”. The size field says 15 pack, the item count says 15, and the dimension fields give about 14.2 by 25.2 inches. One bullet says “these handy 12-pack 15” x 25” kitchen essentials”. Three fields say 15 at 14 by 25; one says 12 at 15 by 25. The 15 is very likely what ships, but it is the clearest internal conflict on the page, and we show both.

It is the only basket weave here. “These lightweight, basket-woven absorbent dish towels soak up spills like a charm and dry in a flash.” A basket weave is a flat woven cloth in which pairs of threads cross pairs, giving a slightly textured, chequered surface. It is closer to the restaurant-style flat towel than to terry: thinner, quicker to dry, less lint, and less water held per towel. The listing’s own word, lightweight, agrees.

The weight agrees with “lightweight”. 2.17 pounds over fifteen 14 by 25 inch towels is about 66 grams a towel, about 291 grams per square metre by our arithmetic. If the pack were twelve, as the bullet says, it would be about 363. Either way it is a mid-to-light figure, which suits a flat weave meant to dry quickly.

It claims lint-free and also designs against lint. “Quick-dry and lint-free”, says one bullet; “Designed to minimize lint and resist shrinkage”, says another. Those are compatible, just. It gives no wash-before-use note. A flat basket weave sheds less than terry, so of the three listings claiming low or no lint, this one has the weave most likely to back it up.

The stripe is the restaurant look. The colour is listed as Blue Stripe, and the copy pitches it for use “at home or in a bustling restaurant”. That is the bar-towel tradition: lots of thin towels, changed often, washed hot. The listing does not give a washing temperature, only that the towels go “in the washer and dryer without a worry”.

What to weigh. It ranks #1,142 overall and #14 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels. No loop, no GSM, no warranty, and a pack count you should confirm on the order page. It is sold by Equinox Int. For a drawer full of thin, fast-drying towels, it is the deepest pack on the page.

Pros

  • 15 towels by title, spec and item count
  • Basket weave, the only one here
  • “Lint-free” and quick-dry claimed
  • Shrink resistance stated
  • Restaurant-style striped towel
  • Washer and dryer safe

Cons

  • One bullet says 12-pack at 15 x 25 in
  • Lightweight by its own description
  • No GSM stated
  • No hanging loop stated
  • No warranty stated
  • No wash temperature given

Best for: A busy kitchen that goes through several thin, fast-drying towels a day and wants a deep stack.

A big towel with a woven, not looped, face. 18 by 28 inches is about 504 square inches per towel, our arithmetic, second only to the Bumble. The listing describes “a textured woven construction” and says the towels are “Tightly woven for dependable repeated use”, and calls them tea towels more than once. It never says terry. Read together, that is a flat or textured woven towel, the kind you use on glasses and to cover a bowl of rising dough, rather than a thick terry.

The weight says thin. 0.88 pounds for six 18 by 28 inch towels is about 67 grams a towel, about 205 grams per square metre by our arithmetic. That is among the lightest on the page, alongside KitchenAid, and roughly half the stated GSM of White Classic. For a flat woven tea towel, that is a normal weight: it will dry fast and leave little lint, but it will be wet through sooner than a terry when you dry a full rack.

The weave is hinted at, not named. The model code, MLTIWEAVEKT6PC-OLV, reads like a multi-weave kitchen towel 6-piece set, and the first bullet’s “textured woven construction” fits that. That reading of the model code is ours; the listing itself never names a waffle, a herringbone or any other weave. If you were shopping for a waffle towel, this is the nearest the page comes, and it does not use the word.

The care rules are the most practical on the page. “Machine wash before first use and after use, avoid fabric softener, tumble dry on low heat, and store the dish cloths only when completely dry.” The fabric-softener warning matters: softener coats cotton fibres and reduces how much water they take up. Only one other listing, the Homaxy 4-pack, gives the same warning. And storing towels only when dry is the single best habit for keeping them from smelling.

It is popular for a quiet listing. It ranks #324 overall and #3 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels, third-best on the page behind the Bumble and the KitchenAid. The seller is Homespun Global. Six large, light towels in a single colour is a simple proposition, and the rank suggests plenty of shoppers want exactly that.

What to weigh. No GSM, no loop and no warranty. The towel is big and the cloth is light. Buy it for glasses, for drying hands and for covering food; buy a terry from the top of this list for soaking up spills.

Pros

  • 18 x 28 in, second-largest here
  • Tightly woven tea-towel build
  • Fabric-softener warning given
  • “Store only when dry” advice
  • Third-best rank, #324 overall
  • Wash before first use advised

Cons

  • No weave named
  • Light by listed weight, about 205 GSM by our arithmetic
  • No GSM stated
  • No hanging loop stated
  • No warranty stated
  • Holds less water than terry

Best for: A buyer who wants large, flat-woven tea towels for glassware and hands, with clear care rules.

8. Utopia Towels Blue Dish Towels, 12 Pack, 15 x 25 in, 100% Ring Spun Cotton, UT0219 — Best Striped Bulk Pack

White cotton dish towels with a blue stripe down the side folded in a neat pile

Twelve striped towels whose listing promises no trace of lint, then tells you how to wash the lint out.

Key Specifications

Size 15 x 25 in
Pack 12 towels
Fabric 100% ring-spun cotton
Weave Not named; “gentle weave”, side stripe
GSM Not stated; “lightweight”
Hanging loop Not stated
Lint Claims no lint; also says wash separately first to minimise lint
Care Machine washable, tumble dry low
Listed weight 1.7 lb for the pack
Warranty Not stated
Model UT0219
Best Sellers Rank #1,797 overall; #25 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels

Why We Recommend It

The listing contradicts itself on lint. The third bullet says the towels “are lightweight, super absorbent and do not leave any trace of lint”. The fifth says “It’s recommended to wash it separately on first use to minimize lint.” Both can be true after the first wash, but not before it, and the second is the instruction to follow. It is the sharpest example on the page of a lint claim and a lint warning sitting in the same listing.

It is a flat-feel striped towel, not a terry. The listing never names a weave. It describes a “side stripe design” and a “Gentle weave” that is “soft enough to prevent scratches on your delicate cookware”, and calls the towels lightweight. That is the commercial striped dish towel, the same family as Zeppoli’s, and quite different from the popcorn terry the same brand sells higher up this page.

The weight confirms it. 1.7 pounds over twelve towels of about 15 by 25 inches is about 64 grams a towel, about 266 grams per square metre by our arithmetic. The other Utopia, the popcorn terry, comes out at about 312 on the same arithmetic. Same brand, same nominal size, same pack count, two different towels: different model numbers, UT0219 here and UTKITCHENTOWEL6BLACK there, and different descriptions.

Its uses include one to be careful with. “Not only capable of cleaning dishes but can also be used to wipe up spills, clean off cutting boards, dry hands and even hold hot plates and dishes.” A dry, folded towel can take a warm plate. A thin, damp one is a poor potholder: water conducts heat far better than dry cotton, and steam from a wet towel on a hot pan handle can scald. Keep a dry towel or a proper mitt for that job, and keep any towel clear of a gas flame or a hot element.

The size field and the dimensions differ slightly. The title says 15 by 25 inches; the dimension fields give about 15.0 by 25.2. That is rounding, not a conflict, but it shows how these listings are built: the title is the marketing figure, the spec table the measured one.

What to weigh. It ranks #1,797 overall and #25 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels, the weakest rank on the page. No GSM, no loop, no warranty. As twelve light, flat striped towels for wiping and drying, it does the job the listing describes, once the first wash is done.

Pros

  • Twelve towels per pack
  • 100% ring-spun cotton
  • Flat, scratch-free weave for cookware
  • First-wash lint instruction given
  • Classic side-stripe dish towel
  • Simple machine wash and low dry

Cons

  • Claims no lint, then warns of lint
  • No weave named
  • Light by listed weight
  • No GSM stated
  • No hanging loop or warranty stated
  • Weakest rank, #1,797 overall

Best for: A buyer who wants a stack of thin, flat striped towels for wiping and glassware.

9. KitchenAid Albany Kitchen Towel 4-Pack Set, 16 x 26, Milkshake Tan/White, ST009616TDKA 205 — Best Sold by Amazon

Two striped and two solid tan kitchen towels folded side by side

The second-best rank on the page, sold by Amazon.com, with the only towels here that are not all 100% cotton.

Key Specifications

Size 16 x 26 in
Pack 4 towels: 2 striped, 2 solid
Fabric Solids “highly absorbent cotton”; stripes “cotton rich”
Weave Not stated
GSM Not stated
Hanging loop Not stated
Lint No lint or first-wash note
Care Not stated
Listed weight 0.5 lb for the pack
Warranty “No Warranty”
Model ST009616TDKA 205
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #153 overall; #2 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels

Why We Recommend It

It is the only set here that does not claim 100% cotton. “The two solid towels are made of highly absorbent cotton and are ideal for wiping spills and cleaning, while the durable, cotton rich towels are perfect for everyday chores.” Cotton rich means a blend, and the listing does not say what the rest is or how much of it there is. The other nine all say 100% cotton. For drying glasses that matters a little; synthetic fibre absorbs less and can smear. For wiping worktops, much less.

The listing says almost nothing about construction. No weave, no GSM, no loop, no care instructions and no lint note. The bullets spend their words on a dorm-room pitch, “COLLEGE COOKING ESSENTIAL”, and on matching other KitchenAid linens. The spec table supplies the size, 16 by 26 inches, and a weight of 0.5 pounds for the four towels.

The weight says light. 0.5 pounds over four 16 by 26 inch towels is about 57 grams a towel, about 211 grams per square metre by our arithmetic, among the lightest on the page with the Lane Linen. Combined with a striped, cotton-rich pair, that points to a thin, flat dish towel rather than a terry. The listing calls the solids “highly absorbent”; on the evidence it gives, that is an adjective, not a measurement.

It says no warranty, plainly. The spec table reads “No Warranty”, one of two listings to say so, with the Utopia popcorn terry. The brand is KitchenAid, but the manufacturer field reads Town & Country Living, which is a licensing arrangement common in kitchen textiles. The name on the label is not the name on the loom.

Popular all the same. It ranks #153 overall and #2 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels, second only to the Bumble on the page, and it is the only set here sold by Amazon.com itself. The brand, the colour range and the Amazon fulfilment probably do much of that work. The listing gives you little else to go on.

What to weigh. Four towels is the smallest pack on the page, jointly with the Homaxy 4-pack. If you want towels that match a KitchenAid mixer and an oven mitt, the listing is built for you. If you want to know what you are drying with, almost every other listing here tells you more.

Pros

  • Second-best rank, #153 overall
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • 16 x 26 in, a mid-size towel
  • Solid and striped pair in one set
  • Coordinates with other KitchenAid linens
  • Solids stated as cotton

Cons

  • Striped pair only “cotton rich”
  • “No Warranty” stated
  • No weave, GSM or care stated
  • Four towels, joint-smallest pack
  • Light by listed weight
  • No hanging loop stated

Best for: A buyer who wants a matching brand-name set from Amazon.com and mainly needs worktop and hand towels.

10. Homaxy 100% Cotton Terry Kitchen Towels, 4 Pack, 13 x 28, Black, XWJ005-A — Best Budget

Four folded black terry cotton kitchen towels on a white surface

The lowest-priced set and the narrowest towel, a terry that its own listing calls lightweight.

Key Specifications

Size 13 x 28 in
Pack 4 towels
Fabric 100% cotton
Weave “Upgraded terry structure”; “finely woven fleece”
GSM Not stated; “lightweight”
Hanging loop Not stated
Lint No lint or first-wash note
Care Cold, gentle cycle; no bleach or fabric softener; tumble dry low
Warranty Not stated
Model XWJ005-A
Best Sellers Rank #499 overall; #5 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels

Why We Recommend It

It is terry, and it says lightweight. “These dish towels are designed with upgraded terry structure, are lightweight, highly absorbent, and dry quickly.” Lightweight and terry pull in opposite directions; a terry towel absorbs because of the cotton in its loops, and a light one has fewer or shorter loops. The listing also mentions “finely woven fleece”, a phrase that does not describe a standard towel construction and that we cannot interpret from the listing alone.

The listed weight is very low. The spec table gives 0.3 pounds for four 13 by 28 inch towels. That would be about 34 grams a towel, about 145 grams per square metre by our arithmetic, the lightest on the page by a distance and light even for a flat tea towel. We cannot tell whether the field is right, a rounded figure or a single towel’s weight. Either the towels are very thin for terry, or the weight field is wrong. Treat it as a question to put to the seller, not as a measurement.

It is the narrowest towel here. 13 by 28 inches is about 364 square inches, our arithmetic, the smallest towel on the page. The length is generous, the width is not, so it hangs long and narrow from an oven handle. Four towels is also the joint-smallest pack, with KitchenAid.

It is not the same towel as the Homaxy 6-pack. Same brand, both terry, both 28 inches long. But the model numbers differ, XWJ005-A here and XWJ030 on the 6-pack, the widths differ, 13 against 16 inches, and only the 6-pack states a GSM, 390. On the listings, these are two different products, and the 6-pack is the heavier and better-documented one.

The care rules protect absorbency. “Machine washable with cold water, gentle cycle, tumble dry low. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners as this will affect the longevity and absorbency of the towels. Low iron if needed.” It is one of two listings to warn against fabric softener, with Lane Linen, and the only one to mention ironing.

What to weigh. It ranks #499 overall and #5 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels, and it is the lowest-priced set on the page. No GSM, no loop, no warranty and no lint note, with a weight field we cannot trust. As a cheap set of narrow black terry towels that hide stains, it does what the listing says. For absorbency you can check, the same brand’s 6-pack is the one to buy.

Pros

  • Lowest-priced set here
  • Terry named
  • 100% cotton
  • Fabric-softener and bleach warning given
  • Black hides stains
  • Fourth-best overall rank, #499

Cons

  • 13 x 28 in, the narrowest towel here
  • Listed weight implausibly light
  • “Lightweight” terry by its own words
  • Four towels only
  • No GSM, loop or warranty stated
  • No lint or first-wash note

Best for: A buyer on a tight budget who wants a few narrow, dark terry towels and accepts thin cloth.

Two Stated GSMs, Eight Rough Ones

With only two listings printing a GSM, the next best evidence is the listed weight spread over the cloth. The table divides each listed weight by the pack count and by the area of one towel, using the size each listing states. Everything in the last column is our arithmetic. It is a rough guide, not a measurement: a listed weight may include packaging, a tote bag or a cardboard band, and any of those push the figure up.

Towel set GSM stated Listed weight Towels and size Rough GSM from weight (ours)
White Classic 410 Not stated 8 at 16 x 26 in —
Homaxy Large 390 1.54 lb 6 at 16 x 28 in About 403
Infinitee Xclusives Not stated 1.411 lb 6 at 15 x 25 in About 441, likely packed weight
Bumble Not stated 1.68 lb 6 at 20 x 28 in About 352, may include tote
Utopia Popcorn Terry Not stated 2.0 lb 12 at 15 x 25 in About 312
Zeppoli Not stated 2.17 lb 15 at 14 x 25 in About 291 (about 363 if 12)
Utopia Blue Stripe Not stated 1.7 lb 12 at 15 x 25 in About 266
KitchenAid Albany Not stated 0.5 lb 4 at 16 x 26 in About 211
Lane Linen Not stated 0.88 lb 6 at 18 x 28 in About 205
Homaxy Terry 4 Pack Not stated 0.3 lb 4 at 13 x 28 in About 145, field doubtful

The method checks out on the one towel where it can be checked. The Homaxy 6-pack states 390 GSM and lists a weight that works out at about 403. A few grams of polybag and card per towel would account for the gap. If the method lands within about 3% of a stated figure, it is good enough to sort the rest into rough bands, provided we treat the outliers with suspicion.

The bands are clear enough. The two stated GSMs, 410 and 390, sit at the top. The Bumble, the Utopia popcorn terry and the Zeppoli land in the middle, roughly 290 to 350 by our arithmetic. The blue Utopia, the KitchenAid and the Lane Linen sit at about 205 to 266, the weight range of a flat dish or tea towel. Two figures sit outside: the Infinitee at about 441, which almost certainly includes packaging given its box-sized dimension fields, and the Homaxy 4-pack at about 145, which is too light to take at face value.

Why the bands matter. A heavier towel holds more water before it is wet through, so it dries more plates per towel. A lighter towel dries out faster on the hook, sheds less lint and leaves fewer fibres on glass. Neither is wrong; they are different tools. The trouble is that on this page they are sold under the same words. The 205 GSM-by-our-arithmetic Lane Linen and the 410 GSM White Classic both call themselves absorbent, and only one gives you the number.

Close view of looped terry cotton fabric in a soft neutral colour
Terry loops hold water; only one of the five terry sets here says how much cotton is in them.

Terry, Dobby, Basket or Nothing: How the Ten Name Their Weave

Weave decides how a towel meets water as much as weight does. Terry’s loops give a large surface area and hold a lot; flat weaves such as flour sack and basket dry quickly and leave little lint; waffle sits between, with pockets that trap water in a thin cloth. Here is every weave word each listing uses, in its own terms.

Towel set Weave words used Waffle, flour sack or herringbone? Fabric
White Classic “Extra dense” texture; none named No 100% ring-spun cotton
Homaxy Large Terry No 100% ring-spun cotton
Bumble Flat and terry; third texture unnamed No 100% ring-spun cotton
Utopia Popcorn Terry Popcorn terry (title); dobby (bullets) No 100% ring-spun cotton
Infinitee Xclusives Terry; dobby weave No 100% ring-spun cotton
Zeppoli Basket-woven No 100% natural cotton
Lane Linen “Textured woven”, “tightly woven” No 100% cotton
Utopia Blue Stripe “Gentle weave”; side stripe No 100% ring-spun cotton
KitchenAid Albany None No Cotton; stripes “cotton rich”
Homaxy Terry 4 Pack “Upgraded terry structure”; “finely woven fleece” No 100% cotton

Five say terry. The Homaxy 6-pack, the Bumble (for some of its six), the Utopia popcorn terry, the Infinitee and the Homaxy 4-pack. Only one of the five, the Homaxy 6-pack, gives a GSM. For the others, the word terry tells you there are loops; it does not tell you how many or how long.

Three say a flat or woven weave. Zeppoli says basket-woven, Lane Linen says textured and tightly woven, and Bumble names a flat towel among its three textures. The blue Utopia describes a flat-feel stripe towel without naming the weave. These are the towels to reach for when a wine glass or a dark plate needs to come up without fluff.

Two say nothing. White Classic, despite printing the highest GSM, and KitchenAid, despite printing the brand, never name a weave. A buyer who wants a specific weave cannot buy it from either listing with confidence.

And none says waffle, flour sack or herringbone. Those are the weaves many cooks look for first in a dish towel. On these ten listings, you would have to infer them from photographs, which we do not use as evidence. If one of those weaves is what you want, this page tells you clearly that none of the ten best-selling sets here sells itself on it.

Ring-spun is the commonest fibre claim. Six listings say ring-spun cotton: White Classic, Homaxy 6-pack, Bumble, both Utopias and Infinitee. Ring spinning twists the fibres tighter and gives a smoother, stronger yarn. Nine of ten say 100% cotton; the KitchenAid striped pair is the exception.

Loops, Lint and Warranties: The Small Print Counted

Three practical details decide how a towel set lives in a kitchen after the first week: whether it hangs, whether it sheds, and whether anyone will replace it. The listings disagree on all three, mostly by saying nothing.

Towel set Hanging loop Wash before first use Lint wording Warranty
White Classic Yes Not stated “Low-lint” Not stated
Homaxy Large Not stated Yes Wash to remove manufacturing lint Not stated
Bumble Yes Yes Wash to remove excess lint; wash separately Not stated
Utopia Popcorn Terry Not stated Not stated None “No warranty.”
Infinitee Xclusives Not stated Yes None Not stated
Zeppoli Not stated Not stated “Lint-free”; “minimize lint” Not stated
Lane Linen Not stated Yes None Not stated
Utopia Blue Stripe Not stated Yes, separately “No trace of lint”; wash to minimise lint Not stated
KitchenAid Albany Not stated Not stated None “No Warranty”
Homaxy Terry 4 Pack Not stated Not stated None Not stated

Two hang. White Classic and Bumble state a hanging loop. The other eight do not mention one. A loop means a towel can dry on a hook in the open air rather than folded over an oven handle, where the doubled cloth stays damp. If your kitchen has hooks, it is worth more than it looks.

Five ask for a first wash, and three say it is for lint. Bumble, Homaxy 6-pack and the blue Utopia tie the first wash to lint. Infinitee and Lane Linen ask for it without saying why. The practical advice is the same for all ten: wash new towels before use, on their own, and skip the fabric softener. New cotton is often finished with a sizing that repels water until it is washed out, which is why a brand-new towel can seem to push water around a plate.

Three claim low or no lint, and one contradicts itself. White Classic says low-lint. Zeppoli says lint-free and designed to minimise lint. The blue Utopia says no trace of lint, then tells you to wash separately to minimise it. Of the three, Zeppoli’s basket weave is the construction most likely to live up to the claim.

No one offers a warranty. KitchenAid and the Utopia popcorn terry state there is none. The other eight are silent. Two listings, Homaxy’s 6-pack and Infinitee, claim the towels last through “hundreds of washes”; neither offers anything in writing to back it. For towels that is normal, but it means hems, loops and colourfastness are on you.

Two warn against fabric softener. Lane Linen and the Homaxy 4-pack. Softener leaves a waxy coating on cotton that reduces how readily it takes up water, which defeats the point of a dish towel. It is good advice for every set on this page, whether the listing gives it or not.

Size and Pack Count: How Much Cloth You Get

Towel size and pack count multiply. A set of fifteen small towels and a set of six large ones can hold similar amounts of cloth, and the right choice depends on whether you want many changes a week or a big towel that lasts through a whole rack. The areas below are our arithmetic from each listing’s stated size and count.

Towel set Size stated Pack Area per towel (ours) Total cloth (ours)
Zeppoli 14 x 25 in 15 About 350 sq in About 36.5 sq ft
Utopia Popcorn Terry 15 x 25 in 12 About 375 sq in About 31.2 sq ft
Utopia Blue Stripe 15 x 25 in 12 About 375 sq in About 31.2 sq ft
Bumble 20 x 28 in 6 About 560 sq in About 23.3 sq ft
White Classic 16 x 26 in 8 About 416 sq in About 23.1 sq ft
Lane Linen 18 x 28 in 6 About 504 sq in About 21.0 sq ft
Homaxy Large 16 x 28 in 6 About 448 sq in About 18.7 sq ft
Infinitee Xclusives 15 x 25 in 6 About 375 sq in About 15.6 sq ft
KitchenAid Albany 16 x 26 in 4 About 416 sq in About 11.6 sq ft
Homaxy Terry 4 Pack 13 x 28 in 4 About 364 sq in About 10.1 sq ft

The biggest towel and the biggest pack are different products. Bumble’s 20 by 28 inch towel is the largest single towel; Zeppoli’s fifteen-towel pack is the most cloth in one order. White Classic’s eight 16 by 26 inch towels give almost exactly the same total cloth as Bumble’s six, in more, smaller pieces, and at the highest stated GSM.

Size changes what a towel is for. At 13 to 15 inches wide, a towel is a hand towel and a quick plate-dryer. At 18 to 20 inches wide, it is big enough to lay flat under a rack of washed glasses or to dry a large pot without wringing. If you hand-wash a lot, look at the top of the per-towel column; if you change towels daily, look at the pack count.

Popularity Follows the Brand and the Loop, Not the Number

Star ratings were not captured for this roundup, so the only popularity measure here is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank, as returned on 5 October 2026. Amazon files these ten in three categories, so category ranks are not comparable across all ten. Read the overall order.

Towel set Overall rank Category rank GSM stated
Bumble #135 #1 in Kitchen Linen Sets Not stated
KitchenAid Albany #153 #2 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels Not stated
Lane Linen #324 #3 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels Not stated

Infinitee Xclusives #589 #6 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels Not stated
White Classic #647 #1 in Fingertip Towels 410
Utopia Popcorn Terry #993 #11 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels Not stated
Zeppoli #1,142 #14 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels Not stated
Homaxy Large #1,729 #23 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels 390
Utopia Blue Stripe #1,797 #25 in Dish Cloths & Dish Towels Not stated

The top two are a gift set and a brand name. Bumble leads on size, a loop and a tote bag; KitchenAid on a name and Amazon.com fulfilment. Neither gives a GSM, and KitchenAid gives almost no construction detail at all. The two listings that do print a GSM sit sixth and ninth. Whatever is selling dish towels on Amazon, on this evidence it is not the number that predicts absorbency.

These are popular products across the board. All ten rank inside the top 1,800 of everything Amazon sells, a strong showing for a basic household item. Even the weakest rank here, the blue Utopia’s #1,797, is a product that sells every day.

What Each Step Up in Cloth Actually Buys

The light, flat sets — KitchenAid, Lane Linen, the blue Utopia. Roughly 205 to 266 grams per square metre by our arithmetic. They dry fast on the hook, leave little fluff on glass and fold flat in a drawer. Lane Linen buys the largest of them, 18 by 28 inches, with the best care instructions; the blue Utopia buys twelve; KitchenAid buys the brand and Amazon.com fulfilment, with only two of its four towels stated as cotton.

The middle sets — Zeppoli, the Utopia popcorn terry, the Bumble. Roughly 290 to 350 by our arithmetic. Zeppoli buys the deepest stack and the only basket weave; the Utopia popcorn terry buys twelve terry towels; the Bumble buys the largest towel on the page, a loop and a mix of flat and terry. Each holds noticeably more water than the light sets, and each gives up a little drying speed for it.

The heavy sets — Homaxy 6-pack and White Classic. 390 and 410 GSM, stated. This step buys roughly twice the cotton per square metre of the light sets, which means roughly twice the water held before the towel is wet through. The Homaxy adds a weight that confirms its number and a longer towel; the White Classic adds eight towels and a loop on each. These are the two to buy for drying a full rack by hand.

The uncertain ones — Infinitee and Homaxy 4-pack. Both say terry, and both have weight fields we cannot read at face value: one looks like the parcel, the other is too light to be the towels. The Infinitee buys a terry-and-dobby build and a strong rank; the Homaxy 4-pack buys the lowest-priced set and a narrow towel. Neither lets you place it on the scale.

Price does not track cloth. The lowest-priced set here has the doubtful weight field and the narrowest towel; the highest stated GSM comes in a set that is not the most expensive. On this page, what you pay for a towel set buys brand, pack size and presentation as often as it buys cotton.

A wood-cabinet kitchen with a towel hanging from the island
Only two of ten listings state a hanging loop, and a towel on a hook dries faster than one folded double.

What to Check Before You Buy

Look for a GSM, and Treat Its Absence as an Answer

Two listings of ten give one: White Classic at 410 and Homaxy’s 6-pack at 390. Words such as absorbent, super absorbent and maximum absorbency are not measurements, and on this page they sit on towels ranging from about 205 to 410 grams per square metre. As a rough guide, flat tea towels run light, everyday terry sits in the middle, and 400 and up is a heavy kitchen terry.

Divide the Weight by the Cloth

If there is no GSM, take the listed weight in pounds, multiply by 453.6 for grams, divide by the number of towels, then divide by the area of one towel in square metres (inches times inches, times 0.000645). On the Homaxy 6-pack, that gets within about 3% of the stated figure. Check whether the weight looks like a parcel: dimension fields such as 12.5 by 5 by 4 inches describe a box, not a towel.

Match the Weave to the Job

Terry for pots, hands and spills; a flat or basket weave for glasses and anything you want lint-free. None of the ten names waffle, flour sack or herringbone. If a listing gives no weave, as White Classic and KitchenAid do not, ask, or buy a mixed pack such as the Bumble and find out which you prefer.

Check the Size Against Your Hooks and Racks

Towels here run from 13 by 28 to 20 by 28 inches. A towel that hangs from an oven door wants length; a towel that lies under a rack of drying glasses wants width. Measure the space you will use; for the rack itself, our dish drying rack roundup covers footprints and drainage.

Look for a Loop If You Have Hooks

Only White Classic and Bumble state one. A towel that hangs from a hook dries faster and smells fresher than one folded over a handle. If a listing does not mention a loop, assume there is none. A loop also lets a towel clip to an apron string while you cook; our kitchen apron roundup covers which aprons carry a towel loop.

Plan the First Wash

Five listings ask for a wash before first use, and three say it is for lint. Wash new towels on their own, warm or as the label allows, and skip fabric softener, which two listings warn against. A towel that seems to push water around on day one usually behaves after its first few washes.

Read Pack Counts and Sizes Twice

Zeppoli’s title says 15 towels at 14 by 25 inches; one of its bullets says 12 at 15 by 25. The Utopia popcorn terry’s model code reads like a 6-pack; its title says 12. Check the order page for the count you will actually receive before comparing value.

Clean plates and glasses drying in a rack beside a kitchen sink
Towels here run from 13 x 28 to 20 x 28 inches; the bigger cloth dries more of the rack.

Common Mistakes

  • Reading “absorbent” as a measurement. All ten say it; two print a GSM, 410 and 390.
  • Assuming terry means thick. Five listings say terry; the Homaxy 4-pack calls its terry lightweight and lists 0.3 lb for four towels.
  • Taking a weight field at face value. Infinitee’s 1.411 lb comes with box-sized 12.5 x 5 x 4 inch dimensions, so it is likely the parcel.
  • Skipping the first wash. Five listings ask for one, and three say new towels shed lint until washed.
  • Using fabric softener. Two listings warn it reduces absorbency; it coats the very fibres meant to drink.
  • Assuming same brand means same towel. The two Homaxy sets are models XWJ030 and XWJ005-A, 16 and 13 inches wide; only one states a GSM.
  • Trusting a pack count from one field. Zeppoli says 15 in three places and 12 in one bullet.
  • Using a damp towel as a potholder. Water conducts heat far better than dry cotton; keep a dry towel or a mitt for hot pans.

Who Should Buy Which

Buy the White Classic 8-pack if you want the most documented absorbency. 410 GSM stated, the highest here, on eight 16 x 26 inch ring-spun cotton towels, each with a hanging loop. Accept that the weave is not named, the care is a cold delicate wash, and there is no weight to check the GSM against.

Buy the Homaxy Large 6-pack if you want a heavy terry with a number that checks out. 390 GSM stated, and a listed weight that comes to about 403 by our arithmetic, on 16 x 28 inch towels. Accept that no loop is stated and that it needs a separate first wash for lint.

Buy the Bumble 6-pack if size matters most. 20 x 28 inches, the largest towel here, with flat and terry textures, a hanging loop and the best rank on the page. Accept that the third texture and the mix are not stated, and that there is no GSM.

Buy the Utopia Popcorn Terry 12-pack if you want a fortnight of terry towels. Twelve 15 x 25 inch towels, mid-weight by our arithmetic. Accept a written “No warranty”, a weave described two ways and no loop.

Buy the Infinitee Xclusives 6-pack if you want terry with a dobby pattern. Ring-spun cotton, both constructions named, and a clear first-wash note. Accept that its weight field looks like the parcel and there is no GSM.

Buy the Zeppoli 15-pack if you want a deep stack of thin, fast-drying towels. The only basket weave here, with lint-free and shrink resistance claimed. Confirm the pack count, since one bullet says 12.

Buy the Lane Linen 6-pack if you want large flat tea towels for glasses. 18 x 28 inches, tightly woven, with the clearest care rules on the page. Accept a light cloth, about 205 GSM by our arithmetic.

Buy the Utopia Blue Stripe 12-pack if you want classic striped dish towels in bulk. Twelve flat-feel 15 x 25 inch towels. Wash them separately before use, whatever the third bullet says about lint.

Buy the KitchenAid Albany 4-pack if you want a brand-name match from Amazon.com. The second-best rank here and a 16 x 26 inch towel. Accept that the striped pair is only cotton rich, nothing is said about weave or care, and there is no warranty.

Buy the Homaxy Terry 4-pack only if budget comes first. The lowest-priced set, four narrow 13 x 28 inch black terry towels. Accept a lightweight terry by its own description and a weight field too low to trust.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best dish towels?

On the listings alone, the White Classic 8-pack. It prints the highest GSM on the page, 410, on eight 16 by 26 inch towels of 100% ring-spun cotton, and it is one of only two listings here to give every towel a hanging loop. GSM, grams per square metre, is the one figure that tells you how much cotton is in each towel, and only two of the ten listings state it. The other is the Homaxy Large 6-pack at 390 GSM, a terry towel whose listed weight agrees with its stated GSM by our arithmetic, which makes it the best-supported absorbency claim here. If size matters more than thickness, the Bumble 6-pack has the largest towel on the page, 20 by 28 inches, a mix of flat and terry textures, and the best Best Sellers Rank of the ten. None of the ten offers a warranty.

What are the most absorbent dish towels?

By stated GSM, the White Classic at 410 and the Homaxy Large 6-pack at 390. Those are the only two figures printed on any of the ten listings, and absorbency in cotton rises with the amount of cotton per square metre. The Homaxy is the one you can check: its listed weight works out at about 403 grams per square metre by our arithmetic, within about 3% of the stated figure. Weave matters too. Terry, a looped pile, holds the most water for its weight; flat weaves dry faster but hold less. Five listings here say terry, and only the Homaxy 6-pack pairs the word with a number. For towels with no GSM, dividing listed weight by towel area gives a rough figure; on that arithmetic the Bumble comes next at about 352, with the caveat that its weight may include a tote bag. Wash any new towel before use; fresh cotton often resists water until its finish washes out.

What GSM is good for a dish towel?

It depends on what you want the towel to do. A light, flat tea towel or flour sack towel, the kind used for glasses and covering dough, is typically well under 300 grams per square metre, and dries quickly with little lint. Everyday terry kitchen towels sit in the middle. Around 400 and above is a heavy kitchen terry that holds a lot of water but takes longer to dry on the hook. On this page, only two listings give a figure: White Classic at 410 and Homaxy at 390, both at the heavy end. Our rough arithmetic from listed weights puts the Lane Linen and KitchenAid at about 205 to 211, the blue Utopia at about 266, and the Bumble, Utopia popcorn terry and Zeppoli roughly between 290 and 350. Those are estimates, not measurements, because a listed weight may include packaging. If drying a full rack by hand is the job, aim high; for glassware, lighter is fine.

Are terry or flat weave dish towels better?

They do different jobs. Terry has loops of yarn on its surface, which give it more area to pick up water, so it holds more and suits pots, pans, hands and spills. It also sheds more lint, especially when new. Flat weaves, including flour sack, basket and plain tea towel cloth, are thinner and smoother: they dry quickly, leave little fluff on glass and fold small, but they are wet through sooner. On this page five listings say terry: the Homaxy 6-pack, the Bumble for some of its towels, the Utopia popcorn terry, the Infinitee and the Homaxy 4-pack. Zeppoli is basket-woven, Lane Linen is textured and tightly woven, and the blue Utopia is a flat-feel striped towel. The Bumble is the only pack that mixes flat and terry towels in one set, which is a sensible way to find out which you prefer. None of the ten names waffle, flour sack or herringbone.

Why do I need to wash new dish towels before using them?

Two reasons. First, new cotton towels shed loose fibre, lint, in their first few washes; terry sheds more than flat weaves because its loops carry short fibres that work loose. Second, many towels are finished at the factory with a sizing or softening treatment that makes them look and feel good in the pack but repels water until it is washed out. That is why a brand-new towel can seem to push water around a plate instead of soaking it up. On this page, five listings ask for a wash before first use: Bumble, Homaxy 6-pack, the blue Utopia, Infinitee and Lane Linen. Bumble, Homaxy and the blue Utopia say it is for lint, and Bumble adds that the towels should be washed separately so the lint does not transfer to clothes. Wash new towels on their own, skip fabric softener, and expect them to improve over the first few washes.

Should I use fabric softener on dish towels?

No. Fabric softener works by leaving a thin, slightly waxy coating on fibres to make them feel softer. On a dish towel, that coating reduces how readily the cotton takes up water, which defeats the purpose of the towel, and it can leave a film on glasses. Two listings here say so directly. Lane Linen says to avoid fabric softener, and the Homaxy 4-pack says not to use bleach or fabric softeners because they affect longevity and absorbency. The other eight do not mention it, but the advice applies to every cotton towel on the page. If your towels feel stiff after line-drying, a tumble dry on low, which eight of the ten listings recommend, softens them without a coating. If towels start to smell, the usual cause is that they stayed damp too long between uses; hang them to dry fully, and wash them hot if the label allows.

How many dish towels does a kitchen need?

Enough to change them often and still have clean ones while a load is washing. Many cooks use a fresh towel every day, sometimes two, one for hands and one for dishes, which makes a dozen a comfortable stock for a household that washes towels weekly. On this page the pack counts run from four, for KitchenAid and the Homaxy 4-pack, to fifteen for Zeppoli, with two 12-packs from Utopia, the eight-towel White Classic and five sets of six. Pack count is only half the story, though. Six large Bumble towels at 20 by 28 inches give about the same total cloth as eight White Classic towels at 16 by 26, by our arithmetic. If you hang towels, a loop helps them dry between uses, and only White Classic and Bumble state one. Keeping towels in an apron string is another option; our kitchen apron roundup covers aprons with towel loops.

Are dish towels better than paper towels?

For drying clean dishes and hands, yes for most kitchens: a cotton towel is reused hundreds of times and holds a lot of water. Several listings here make the comparison outright; Bumble says its towels are effective for soaking up more than paper towels, and Homaxy says its 390 GSM terry outperforms them. For raw meat juices, grease and anything you would rather throw away than wash, paper towels still earn their place, because a cloth that wipes up raw chicken has to go straight in a hot wash before it touches a plate. Many kitchens keep both: a stack of cotton towels for drying, and a roll on a holder for the messy jobs. Whichever you use, keep cloth towels away from hot burners and open flames, and do not use a damp towel as a potholder, since water carries heat into your hand far faster than dry cotton.

Final Verdict

Best OverallWhite Classic Dish Towels, 8 Pack, 410 GSM

The highest stated GSM, 410, on eight 16 x 26 inch ring-spun cotton towels, each with a hanging loop.

Best AbsorbentHomaxy Large Premium Cotton Kitchen Towels, 6 Pack

390 GSM terry stated, a listed weight that agrees by our arithmetic, and a long 16 x 28 inch towel.

Largest TowelBumble Premium Kitchen Towels, 6 Pack

20 x 28 inches, flat and terry in one pack, a hanging loop and the best rank, #135 overall.

Ten dish towel sets promise absorbency, and two tell you how much cotton backs the promise. White Classic prints 410 GSM. Homaxy’s 6-pack prints 390, and its listed weight agrees. The other eight use adjectives, and on our arithmetic from their listed weights they range from about 205 to about 352 grams per square metre, with two figures too doubtful to use.

The weave words are thin, and the popular weaves are absent. Five say terry, two say dobby, one says basket-woven, and two say nothing. None names waffle, flour sack or herringbone. Only two have a hanging loop, three tie their first wash to lint, three claim low or no lint, and one does both. Two say there is no warranty, and the rest are silent.

So buy dish towels by the number, and work it out where it is missing. Look for a GSM first. Failing that, divide the listed weight by the towel count and area, and check that the weight is not a parcel. Then match the weave to the job, check the size against your hooks, and plan a first wash with no softener. Keep a dry towel or a mitt, not a damp towel, for hot pans; our candy thermometer guide covers the hottest pan work in a kitchen.

If you buy one set from this page, make it the White Classic 8-pack: the highest stated GSM here, 410, eight ring-spun cotton towels and a hanging loop on every one. If you want a heavy terry whose number you can check, the Homaxy Large 6-pack is the one; if you want the biggest towel and a mix of textures, the Bumble 6-pack is the bestseller for good reason.
