Mils Stay Off the Label on Seven of the Best Vacuum Sealer Bags

A vacuum sealer bag is a sheet of plastic film asked to do three jobs at once. It has to let a machine pull the air out, it has to hold a heat seal, and it has to stay whole around a pork chop bone in the freezer for months. How well it does the last job comes down mostly to how thick the film is. Read ten best-selling listings side by side and only three print that number.

The three are Syntus, Syntus again and O2frepak. The Syntus 100-bag pack says “4 mil high-tenacity material”. The Syntus 11-inch roll gives two figures, “a 3.15-mil smooth side and a 6.7-mil textured side”. O2frepak gives “3.5mil Front Panel and 4mil Textured or Embossed Back Panel”. The other seven, including all three FoodSaver listings and all three Wevac listings, use words instead: “heavy duty”, “multilayer”, “commercial grade”. None of them is a measurement.

The second thing a bag has to tell you is whether it is textured. The ordinary countertop sealer, the kind that clamps the open end of the bag under a lid, pulls air out through channels pressed into one side of the film. A perfectly smooth bag collapses flat against itself and traps air. Smooth pouches are made for chamber machines, which evacuate the whole box instead. Seven listings here say their film is embossed, textured or channelled. All three FoodSaver listings say nothing about texture at all, though the roll does say it is designed for FoodSaver machines.

Then there is how much bag you are actually getting. Packs are sold as 3 rolls, 200 bags, 150 bags or 43 bags, and those counts are not comparable. So we turned every pack that gives enough to work with into square feet of bag face, which is our arithmetic. The seven we can calculate run from 40.0 square feet in the FoodSaver three-roll pack to 158.3 square feet in the Wevac twin-roll pack. Three listings, two FoodSaver and the Xinbaolong, do not give enough to calculate at all.

And then there is heat. Eight of the ten say sous vide in their title or bullets. Only one, the Syntus roll, says what temperatures the film is rated for: “-4°F to 212°F”. Four say boil-safe or boilable without a number. For anything that goes into hot water, the general rule is to follow each bag’s stated temperature limit, and on most of this page there is no limit to follow.

One listing here is not for a countertop sealer at all. The FoodSaver 1-Quart Vacuum Zipper Bags are the reusable zip-top kind made for a handheld sealer, which draws air out through a valve on the bag. The listing does not spell that out, and it does not say which machine it fits, so a shopper with a clamp-style FoodSaver could easily buy the wrong thing. Syntus makes the opposite point plainly: its bags “do not feature an air valve and are not compatible with handheld vacuum sealers.”

So this guide sorts the ten by what each listing lets you check: a stated thickness, a stated texture, the area of film in the pack, which machines it says it fits, and which of BPA-free, sous vide, microwave, freezer and boil it claims. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup; popularity below is Amazon’s Best Sellers Rank only.

All ten were captured on 5 October 2026. They hold ranks from #1 to #17 in Vacuum Sealer Bags. The #1, the FoodSaver roll pack, prints neither a thickness nor a texture.

Best Sellers Ranks and specifications are taken from each manufacturer’s Amazon listing as displayed on 5 October 2026 through a United States connection, and may change. Bag area is our arithmetic, not a listing figure. We multiplied each stated bag or roll size by the stated count and converted to square feet, counting one face of the flat bag or roll, not both layers of film. Rolls lose a few inches to each seal and trim, so usable area is lower. The Xinbaolong lists 150 bags in three sizes without a split, and the two FoodSaver quart packs give no bag dimensions, so their area cannot be calculated. “Bags” in the rank column means Amazon’s Vacuum Sealer Bags category. Ranks are as returned on 5 October 2026. Three listings were sold by Amazon.com; the other seven by their brands or by the seller named in the detail card. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for any product here.

How We Chose These Ten

We researched current listings, compared manufacturer specifications and documentation, and read each listing’s claims about its film, its size, its texture and its heat limits line by line. We did not carry out hands-on testing, and nothing below is presented as measured performance data. Star ratings and review counts were not captured for this roundup. We used Amazon Best Sellers Rank, buy-box stock and listing specifications instead, and nothing on this page describes or implies how owners have scored these bags.

  • Bags and rolls for vacuum sealers only — pre-cut bags, rolls and one pack of vacuum zipper bags. Canisters, jar lids and plain freezer bags were not in the running.
  • Thickness recorded exactly as printed — a mil figure where one exists, both figures where a listing gives one per side, and the word used where there is no number, such as “heavy duty” or “multilayer”.
  • Texture recorded in the listing’s words — embossed channels, textured dots or grooves. A listing that does not mention texture is marked not stated, even where the brand’s bags are generally made for clamp-style sealers.
  • Area turned into square feet — where a listing gives sizes and counts, we multiplied them out. That figure is our arithmetic, counts one face of the bag, and ignores the film lost to seals. Where a listing does not give a size split or bag dimensions, we say so rather than guess.
  • Machine fit as stated — brand names are logged only where the listing names them. “All vacuum sealers” is logged as written, along with any exclusions, such as handheld sealers.
  • Claims logged as claims — BPA-free, sous vide, microwave, freezer, boil and dishwasher, only where the listing uses the word. A temperature range is logged only where a number is printed. Shelf-life multipliers are listing claims with no stated test basis, and we do not repeat them as fact.
  • Popularity from Best Sellers Rank only — ranks are quoted exactly as returned on 5 October 2026, overall and in Vacuum Sealer Bags. Ranks move constantly.
  • Verified stock and seller — each product was the buy-box offer and in stock on amazon.com on 5 October 2026.

The Ten Vacuum Sealer Bag Packs in Detail

1. Syntus 100 Pcs Vacuum Sealer Bags for Food, 8×12 + 11×16, BPA Free (VSB100B) — Best Overall

Stack of clear pre-cut vacuum sealer bags in two sizes with a dotted texture visible on one side

A stated 4 mil film, a stated textured side and a plain warning about which sealers it will not fit.

Key Specifications

Thickness 4 mil, stated
Texture Single-side textured dot pattern
Format Pre-cut: 50 at 11 x 16 in (gallon), 50 at 8 x 12 in (quart)
Bag area (our arithmetic) 13,600 sq in, about 94.4 sq ft
Machine fit stated All desktop vacuum sealers; not handheld
Claims BPA-free; microwave, fridge, freezer, boiling, sous vide
Temperature range Not stated
Model VSB100B
Seller SyntusDirect
Best Sellers Rank #587 overall; #9 in Vacuum Sealer Bags

Why We Recommend It

This is the clearest bag listing on the page. It tells you the film thickness, the texture, the sizes, the count and the machines it fits, in that order, with numbers. “Crafted from 4 mil high-tenacity material with a single-side textured dot pattern, these bags enhance suction, prevent bone punctures, and maintain an airtight seal.” Seven of the ten listings here give no thickness at all, so a plain 4 mil figure is the main reason this pack sits at the top. You can hold it against any other bag that prints a number and know where it stands.

The texture is stated, which matters for a clamp-style sealer. A dot pattern on one side gives the air a path out while the smooth side presses against it. That is the design countertop sealers rely on. The listing is specific that it is for “all traditional desktop vacuum sealer machines”, and then adds the exclusion most bag listings skip: “These bags do not feature an air valve and are not compatible with handheld vacuum sealers.” If you own a handheld sealer, this is not your bag, and the listing says so in its first bullet.

The size split is spelled out. “50 each of 11" x 16" (gallon) and 8" x 12" (quart).” By our arithmetic that is 8,800 square inches of gallon bags and 4,800 of quart bags, 13,600 square inches or about 94.4 square feet of bag face in all. That is less film than the 200-count quart packs or any of the big rolls here, because half the count is gallon bags, which is the size you want for a rack of ribs or a whole chicken. A buyer who mostly seals single portions will run out of quarts first.

The claims cover hot use as well as cold. “Suitable for microwave oven, cabinet, fridge, or freezer storage, in addition to boiling, sous vide cooking, and more.” It says BPA-free. What it does not give is a temperature ceiling, so “boiling” is the nearest thing to a limit the listing offers. For sous vide at ordinary cooking temperatures that is plenty of headroom on paper, but if you simmer or reheat in boiling water, keep to what the listing says and no further.

What to weigh. It ranks #587 overall and #9 in Vacuum Sealer Bags, sold by SyntusDirect, model VSB100B. No listed weight, so there is nothing to check the 4 mil against, and no machine brand is named; “all desktop” is the claim. Pre-cut gallon bags waste film on small portions, which is the trade-off against a roll. For a mixed freezer of portions and roasts, sealed on a countertop machine, this is the best-documented pack here.

Pros

  • 4 mil thickness stated
  • Textured dot side stated, for clamp-style sealers
  • Clear gallon and quart split, 50 of each
  • Boil, microwave and sous vide claimed
  • BPA-free stated
  • States plainly it does not fit handheld sealers

Cons

  • No temperature range given
  • No machine brand named
  • About 94.4 sq ft by our arithmetic, below the 200-count packs
  • No listed weight
  • Pre-cut gallon bags waste film on small portions

Best for: Countertop-sealer owners who want a stated thickness and a mix of quart and gallon bags.

2. Syntus 11 in x 150 ft Vacuum Sealer Bags for Food Seal Rolls with Cutter (VSR150L-N) — Best Roll for Sous Vide

A wide roll of clear vacuum sealer film feeding out of a cardboard dispenser box with a slide cutter

The only listing here that prints a temperature range, and the thickest stated side on the page.

Key Specifications

Thickness 3.15 mil smooth side; 6.7 mil textured side
Texture Single-side embossed dotted channels
Format One roll, 11 in x 150 ft, with cutter
Bag area (our arithmetic) 19,800 sq in, about 137.5 sq ft
Temperature range -4°F to 212°F, stated
Claims BPA-free; freezer, microwave, sous vide
Machine fit stated All major vacuum sealer brands
Listed weight About 5.49 lb
Model VSR150L-N
Seller SyntusDirect
Best Sellers Rank #1,931 overall; #16 in Vacuum Sealer Bags

Why We Recommend It

This is the one bag on the page that tells you how hot it can go. “They withstand temperatures ranging from -4°F to 212°F, ensuring safety for freezer storage, microwave use, and even sous vide cooking.” Eight listings here say sous vide. This is the only one that puts a number on it. For the sous vide shopper that is the most useful fact on the page: a bath set well below 212°F sits inside the stated range, and you have something to check against rather than a word.

It gives two thicknesses, one per side. “A 3.15-mil smooth side and a 6.7-mil textured side.” The textured figure is the highest stated thickness on the page. Read it carefully, though. On an embossed film, the figure for the textured side may include the height of the dots, not just solid plastic, and the listing does not say how it was measured. The smooth side, at 3.15 mil, is thinner than the Syntus pre-cut bags’ 4 mil and O2frepak’s 3.5 mil front. Together the two walls are the most film stated anywhere here.

The roll is wide and long. 11 inches by 150 feet is 19,800 square inches, about 137.5 square feet of bag face by our arithmetic, the second-largest area on the page after the Wevac twin roll. A roll lets you cut each bag to the food, so a long fish fillet gets a long bag and a burger patty gets a short one. You lose a little to each seal. The cutter box is included: “Simply mount the cutter onto the box, pull a portion of the roll through the top opening.”

Check your seal bar before you buy an 11-inch roll. Many compact sealers seal a narrower strip, and a roll wider than the bar cannot be closed in one pass. The listing says it works with “all major vacuum sealer brands on the market” and names none. If your machine takes 11-inch rolls, as many full-size countertop sealers in our vacuum sealer for heavy use guide do, this is the roll to get; if it takes only 8 inches, look at the FoodSaver or the Wevac twin pack.

What to weigh. It ranks #1,931 overall and #16 in Vacuum Sealer Bags, the second-lowest rank on the page, sold by SyntusDirect. The listed weight, about 5.49 pounds, works out to about 0.64 ounces per square foot, our arithmetic, the heaviest per area of any pack with a weight, which fits the thick stated film, though the figure includes the box. No machine brand is named, and only one width is offered. For sous vide, it is the only bag here whose stated limits you can actually follow.

Pros

  • Only stated temperature range: -4°F to 212°F
  • Thickest stated side: 6.7 mil textured
  • About 137.5 sq ft by our arithmetic
  • Cutter box included
  • BPA-free; freezer, microwave and sous vide claimed
  • Heaviest listed weight per area here

Cons

  • 11 in width needs an 11 in seal bar
  • Smooth side is 3.15 mil, thinner than two rivals
  • No machine brand named
  • Boiling not claimed in words
  • Lowest-but-one rank on the page

Best for: Sous vide cooks with an 11-inch sealer who want a stated temperature limit to cook within.

3. O2frepak Quart 8×12 Vacuum Sealer Bags, 200 Count — Best Stated Quart Spec

Neat pile of clear quart-size vacuum sealer bags with one embossed side catching the light

Two panel thicknesses, a named film and a clamp-style fit, on the same 200 quart bags Wevac sells without a number.

Key Specifications

Thickness 3.5 mil front panel; 4 mil back panel
Texture Textured or embossed back panel
Material Food grade PA+PE
Format Pre-cut: 200 at 8 x 12 in (quart)
Bag area (our arithmetic) 19,200 sq in, about 133.3 sq ft
Machine fit stated All clamp-style vacuum sealers
Claims Cook, freezable, dishwasher, microwave, boilable
BPA-free / sous vide Not stated / not stated in words
Listed weight About 4.59 lb
Seller O2frepakDirect
Best Sellers Rank #881 overall; #12 in Vacuum Sealer Bags

Why We Recommend It

This is the only quart pack on the page that tells you what its film is. “Designed with Food Grade PA+PE Material, 3.5mil Front Panel and 4mil Textured or Embossed Back Panel for Maximum Freshness, with Bone Guards to Prevent Piercing.” PA is nylon, PE is polyethylene, and a nylon layer is what gives vacuum film its resistance to air and punctures. No other listing here names its plastics. It gives a thickness per panel, as the Syntus roll does, and both figures are in the range of the Syntus pre-cut bags.

The fit is stated by machine type, not brand. “Compatible with All ‘Clamp Style’ Vacuum Sealer Machines.” That is the honest way to say it. A clamp-style sealer is any countertop machine that grips the open end of the bag, which covers most of the market, and the embossed back panel is what those machines need. It rules out, by implication, handheld valve sealers. It names no brand at all, where the Wevac listings list five or six.

Put it next to the Wevac 200-count and the comparison is direct. Same size, 8 by 12 inches. Same count, 200. Same area, about 133.3 square feet by our arithmetic. Same “3-6 Times Longer” shelf-life wording. The Wevac gives no thickness and no material; O2frepak gives both. The O2frepak lists 4.59 pounds and the Wevac 4.21, even though the Wevac weight includes a keeper box. That is weak evidence, since neither says whether its figure is the shipping weight, but it points the same way as the printed thickness.

The claims list is long but misses two words. “Suitable for Storing Raw and Cooked Foods, Cook, Freezable, Dishwasher, Microwave, and Boilable Safe.” It does not say BPA-free, and it does not say sous vide, though “cook” and “boilable” suggest hot water is expected. No temperature range is given. If BPA-free in writing matters to you, eight other listings here say it; if you cook sous vide, ask the seller for a rated temperature before you rely on “boilable”.

What to weigh. It ranks #881 overall and #12 in Vacuum Sealer Bags, sold by O2frepakDirect. The model field is just the pack description. For a buyer who seals mostly single portions on a clamp-style machine and wants the most stated detail in a quart bag, this is the pack; for BPA-free in writing, the Syntus is the alternative.

Pros

  • 3.5 mil front and 4 mil back stated
  • Only listing to name its film: PA+PE
  • Embossed back panel, clamp-style fit stated
  • About 133.3 sq ft by our arithmetic
  • Microwave, dishwasher and boilable claimed
  • Bone guards claimed

Cons

  • BPA-free not stated
  • Sous vide not named; no temperature range
  • Quart size only
  • No machine brand named
  • Model field is a description, not a number

Best for: Clamp-style sealer owners who seal single portions and want a stated thickness and film type.

4. FoodSaver Custom Fit Vacuum Sealer Rolls, 8 in x 20 ft, Pack of 3 (FSFSBF0534-000) — Best for FoodSaver Owners

Three rolls of clear vacuum sealer film lying side by side on a white kitchen counter

The best-selling bag on Amazon at capture prints neither a thickness nor a texture.

Key Specifications

Thickness Not stated (“multilayer design”)
Texture Not stated
Format Three rolls, 8 in x 20 ft each
Bag area (our arithmetic) 5,760 sq in, 40.0 sq ft
Machine fit stated FoodSaver system; designed for FoodSaver sealers
Claims BPA-free; freezer, fridge, microwave, boiling safe; sous vide in title
Temperature range Not stated
Listed weight About 0.50 lb
Model / part FSFSBF0534-000 / 2159392
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #19 overall; #1 in Vacuum Sealer Bags

Why We Recommend It

This is the number one vacuum sealer bag on Amazon, and it tells you the least about its film. It ranks #19 overall and #1 in Vacuum Sealer Bags. The bullets lead with “Multilayer Design: Ensures an airtight seal”. A layer count, or here the bare word multilayer, is a construction, not a thickness. It says nothing about texture either. That does not mean the film is thin or smooth; it means you are buying on the brand.

The fit is the one thing it is specific about. “FoodSaver System Compatible: Specifically designed to work with the FoodSaver vacuum sealer.” If you own a FoodSaver countertop sealer, that is a reasonable thing to rely on: the brand is matching its own rolls to its own machines. It does not say whether it fits anyone else’s. Most clamp-style sealers take an 8-inch roll, but the listing leaves that to you.

It is the smallest pack of film here by a wide margin. Three rolls of 8 inches by 20 feet is 60 feet of roll and 5,760 square inches, 40.0 square feet of bag face by our arithmetic. The Wevac twin roll gives about four times that, and the Syntus roll more than three times. The listed weight, about half a pound, is the lightest per square foot of any pack with a weight, about 0.20 ounces, our arithmetic again. Treat that with care: we do not know whether it is the packed weight, and it is not a thickness.

The claims are broad and plainly worded. “BPA-free and safe for storing raw and cooked foods” and “Suitable for use in the freezer, refrigerator, microwave, and are boiling safe.” The title adds sous vide. It is one of four listings to say boiling in words. There is no temperature range, so “boiling safe” is the ceiling you have to work with. The “up to 5 times longer” freshness figure is a listing claim with no stated basis.

What to weigh. It is sold by Amazon.com, model FSFSBF0534-000. For a FoodSaver owner who wants a roll made for the machine and sold by Amazon, it is the natural choice and the market clearly agrees. For anyone who wants to compare film on paper, it gives nothing to compare, and per pack it carries the least film on the page.

Pros

  • #1 in Vacuum Sealer Bags; #19 overall
  • Designed for FoodSaver sealers, stated
  • BPA-free; freezer, microwave and boiling claimed
  • Sous vide in the title
  • Rolls cut to length, so less waste per bag
  • Sold by Amazon.com

Cons

  • No thickness stated
  • No texture stated
  • 40.0 sq ft, the least film here by our arithmetic
  • Other machine brands not named
  • No temperature range

Best for: FoodSaver owners who want rolls made for their machine and do not need a printed thickness.

5. Wevac Vacuum Sealer Bags for Food, 8 in x 100 ft and 11 in x 100 ft Rolls with Cutter Box — Most Film per Pack

Two rolls of clear embossed vacuum sealer film of different widths beside a cardboard cutter box

The most bag film on the page, in two widths, and no number for how thick it is.

Key Specifications

Thickness Not stated (“heavy duty”)
Texture Embossed channels
Format Two rolls: 8 in x 100 ft and 11 in x 100 ft, cutter box
Bag area (our arithmetic) 22,800 sq in, about 158.3 sq ft
Machine fit stated Food Saver, Seal a meal, Weston, Cabela’s
Claims BPA-free; sous vide; freezer burn named
Microwave / boil Not stated
Listed weight About 6.13 lb
Model Not stated
Seller WEVAC Direct
Best Sellers Rank #440 overall; #7 in Vacuum Sealer Bags

Why We Recommend It

By area, this is the biggest pack on the page. An 8-inch roll and an 11-inch roll, each 100 feet. By our arithmetic that is 9,600 square inches plus 13,200, 22,800 in all, about 158.3 square feet of bag face. That is nearly four times the FoodSaver three-roll pack and more than any other listing here. If your sealer takes both widths, you get a narrow roll for portions and a wide one for roasts in one box.

The texture is stated; the thickness is not. “8 inch and 11 inch by 100 feet rolls with embossed channels to increase suction.” That is the important fact for a countertop sealer. The heading claims “HEAVY DUTY AND PUNCTURE PREVENTION”, but there is no mil figure anywhere in the listing, so heavy duty is a word, not a measurement. The listed weight, about 6.13 pounds, works out to about 0.62 ounces per square foot, our arithmetic, close to the Syntus roll. That includes the cutter box, so it hints at a reasonably substantial film without proving anything.

It names machine brands, which most listings do not. “Work with all suction vac heat sealer, such as Food Saver, Seal a meal, Weston, Cabela’s.” Read that as a list of clamp-style sealer brands rather than a test. The thing that actually decides fit for a roll is width: the 11-inch roll needs a seal bar at least that wide. If yours is 8 inches, half this pack is no use to you.

The heat claims are thin. It says BPA-free and lists sous vide among its uses: “Perfect for food storage, freeze dried meal, sous vide, gardening.” It does not say microwave, does not say boil, and gives no temperature range. For sous vide, that leaves you without a stated limit to follow. The “3-6 times longer food shelf life” line is a claim with no stated basis, and it is word for word the same as two other Wevac listings and O2frepak.

What to weigh. It ranks #440 overall and #7 in Vacuum Sealer Bags, sold by WEVAC Direct. No model number is given, which makes it hard to tell whether its film matches the two Wevac pre-cut packs; the bullets are shared almost word for word. For a heavy user with a full-width sealer, it is the most film per pack here; for a sous vide cook, it gives no ceiling to cook within.

Pros

  • About 158.3 sq ft, the most film here by our arithmetic
  • Two widths: 8 in and 11 in
  • Embossed channels stated
  • Machine brands named
  • Cutter box included
  • BPA-free stated

Cons

  • No thickness stated
  • No model number
  • Microwave and boil not stated
  • No temperature range for sous vide
  • 11 in roll needs an 11 in seal bar

Best for: Heavy users with a sealer that takes both 8 and 11 inch rolls and want the most film per pack.

This is the best-selling pre-cut pack on the page. At #5 in Vacuum Sealer Bags and #387 overall, it ranks above every other pre-cut bag here, including FoodSaver’s own quart pack. It is 200 quart bags, 8 by 12 inches, in a keeper box. By our arithmetic that is 19,200 square inches, about 133.3 square feet of bag face, which is a lot of single portions.

The texture is stated and the thickness is not. “200 pack of 8 by 12 inch precut bags with embossed channels to increase suction.” Embossed is what a clamp-style sealer needs. As with the other two Wevac listings, “heavy duty” is the only word on thickness. Set beside O2frepak’s 200 quart bags, which are the same size and count and state 3.5 and 4 mil, the gap in information is the whole story. O2frepak lists 4.59 pounds; Wevac lists 4.21, including the box. Neither figure is a thickness, and neither listing says whether it is the shipping weight.

It names the most sealer brands of any quart pack. “Work with all suction vac heat sealer, such as Food Saver, Seal a meal, Weston, Cabela’s, Ziploc etc.” A pre-cut 8-inch bag fits the seal bar of nearly any countertop machine, so fit is rarely the issue with a quart bag. The issue is the open end: a clamp-style sealer needs one embossed face, and this listing says it has it.

The heat claims are narrow. BPA-free is stated, and the use list reads “food storage, freeze dried meal, sous vide, gardening, tea leaves, documents and electronics”. Microwave and boil are not mentioned, and there is no temperature range. A bag that lists documents and electronics alongside sous vide is describing what you can put in it, not what it has been rated for.

What to weigh. Sold by WEVAC Direct, model EU161004, the only Wevac listing here with a model number. The keeper box keeps the stack clean between uses. For a buyer who wants many quart bags from the best-ranked pre-cut pack, this is it. For a buyer who wants the same bag with a printed thickness, the O2frepak is the like-for-like alternative.

Pros

  • Best-ranked pre-cut pack: #5 in Vacuum Sealer Bags
  • 200 quart bags, about 133.3 sq ft by our arithmetic
  • Embossed channels stated
  • Five sealer brands named
  • Keeper box included
  • BPA-free stated

Cons

  • No thickness stated
  • Microwave and boil not stated
  • No temperature range
  • Quart size only
  • Shelf-life claim has no stated basis

Best for: Buyers who seal many single portions and want the best-ranked bulk quart pack.

7. Wevac Vacuum Sealer Bags, 150 Pcs: Gallon 11×16, Quart 8×12, Pint 6×10 — Best Size Mix

Three small stacks of clear vacuum sealer bags in pint, quart and gallon sizes on a counter

Three sizes with the split printed, 50, 70 and 30, and the same Wevac silence on thickness.

Key Specifications

Thickness Not stated (“heavy duty”)
Texture Embossed channels
Format Pre-cut: 50 at 11 x 16 in, 70 at 8 x 12 in, 30 at 6 x 10 in
Bag area (our arithmetic) 17,320 sq in, about 120.3 sq ft
Machine fit stated Food Saver, Seal a meal, Nesco, Weston, Cabela’s, Ziploc
Claims BPA-free; sous vide; freeze dried; freezer burn named
Microwave / boil Not stated
Listed weight About 3.15 lb
Model Not stated
Seller WEVAC Direct
Best Sellers Rank #851 overall; #11 in Vacuum Sealer Bags; #18 in Vacuum Sealers

Why We Recommend It

This is the most practical size mix here, and the split is printed. “Total 150 Count, 50 11" x 16" gallon size and 70 8" x 12" quart size and 30 6" x 10" pint size pre-cut bags.” Pint bags suit a handful of herbs, a cheese wedge or a single fish fillet, where a quart bag wastes film. By our arithmetic the pack is 8,800 plus 6,720 plus 1,800 square inches, 17,320 in all, about 120.3 square feet of bag face.

It shares its copy with the other Wevac listings. Embossed channels are stated, “heavy duty” stands in for a thickness, BPA-free and sous vide are named, and the “3-6 times longer food shelf life” line appears again. No model number is given. We cannot tell from the listings whether the three Wevac packs use the same film, but nothing in them suggests a difference, and nothing gives a number to compare.

The machine list is the longest on the page. “Work with all suction vac heat sealer, such as Food Saver, Seal a meal, Nesco, Weston, Cabela’s, Ziploc etc.” Six brands. The widest bag is 11 inches across, so the gallon bags need a seal bar of at least that width, the same check as an 11-inch roll. The quart and pint bags will fit almost anything clamp-style.

The weight per area is the lowest of the Wevac three. About 3.15 pounds over about 120.3 square feet is about 0.42 ounces per square foot, our arithmetic, against about 0.51 for the Wevac 200-count and 0.62 for the twin roll. The 200-count includes a keeper box and the roll a cutter box, and this pack lists neither, which may account for the gap. It is not evidence of thinner film, only a reason not to assume the three are identical.

What to weigh. It ranks #851 overall, #11 in Vacuum Sealer Bags and, oddly, #18 in Vacuum Sealers, sold by WEVAC Direct. Microwave and boil are not claimed and no temperature range is given. For a buyer who wants pints, quarts and gallons in one box and knows the split, this is the pack; the Xinbaolong offers the same three sizes but does not say how many of each.

Pros

  • Three sizes with the split stated: 50/70/30
  • Pint bags for small portions
  • About 120.3 sq ft by our arithmetic
  • Embossed channels stated
  • Six sealer brands named
  • BPA-free stated

Cons

  • No thickness stated
  • No model number
  • Microwave and boil not stated
  • No temperature range
  • Gallon bags need an 11 in seal bar

Best for: Households that seal everything from herbs to roasts and want three bag sizes in known numbers.

8. Xinbaolong Vacuum Sealer Bags, 11×16 Gallon, 8×12 Quart, 6×10 Pint, 150 Pcs — Most Heat Claims

Clear vacuum sealer bags in three sizes fanned out, one side showing raised channels

The longest list of heat and care claims on the page, and no number behind any of them.

Key Specifications

Thickness Not stated (“commercial grade”, “heavy duty”)
Texture Embossed grooves one side; smooth other side
Format Pre-cut: 150 bags in 11 x 16, 8 x 12 and 6 x 10 in; split not stated
Bag area Not calculable; size split not stated
Machine fit stated All major brand vacuum sealers
Claims BPA-free; microwave, frozen, reused, washed, boiled, dishwasher, sous vide
Temperature range Not stated
Brand as listed “xinbaolong” (spec); “XingBaoLong” (bullets)
Seller Wenzhou Qunjia E-commerce Co
Best Sellers Rank #2,016 overall; #17 in Vacuum Sealer Bags

Why We Recommend It

No bag here claims more than this one. “XingBaoLong food sealed roll bags can be microwave heated, frozen, reused, washed, boiled, and dishwasher safe.” Add BPA-free and sous vide, and it is the only listing to tick every box we logged plus reuse. But none of it comes with a number. There is no temperature range, no thickness and no test basis, so the list is a set of words to take on trust.

The texture is described clearly. “One side groove design, single-sided smooth transparent design. Heavy duty bag with embossed exhaust channels.” That is the right build for a clamp-style sealer. It also claims “deeper air channels than other brands”, which is a comparison with no figures on either side. On thickness, it offers “COMMERCIAL GRADE”, which is a label, not a measurement.

The size split is missing. The title and bullets give three sizes, gallon 11 by 16, quart 8 by 12 and pint 6 by 10, and a total of 150. They do not say how many of each. The Wevac 150-count offers the same three sizes and the same total and prints the split, 50, 70 and 30. Without the split, we cannot calculate the area here: 150 pint bags and 150 gallon bags would differ by a factor of almost three. The first bullet also calls them “food sealed roll bags”, though every other line says pre-cut.

The listing is loose in other places too. The brand is spelled “xinbaolong” in the spec field and “XingBaoLong” in the bullets. The colour field reads like a size list. No model number is given. The seller is Wenzhou Qunjia E-commerce Co rather than a brand store. None of that says anything about the film, but it does say how much care went into the page you are buying from.

What to weigh. It ranks #2,016 overall and #17 in Vacuum Sealer Bags, the lowest on the page. Machine fit is claimed for “all major brand vacuum sealers”, with none named. If you want reuse and dishwasher claims in writing, this is the only listing that makes both. If you want the same three sizes with known counts, the Wevac 150 is the better-documented pack.

Pros

  • Most heat and care claims on the page
  • Reuse and dishwasher both claimed
  • Embossed grooves one side, smooth the other, stated
  • Three sizes including pint
  • BPA-free and sous vide stated

Cons

  • Size split not stated, so area cannot be calculated
  • No thickness or temperature range
  • Brand spelled two ways
  • Calls pre-cut bags “roll bags”
  • Lowest rank on the page
  • No machine brand named

Best for: Buyers who want reuse and dishwasher claims in writing and can live without counts per size.

9. FoodSaver Quart Pre-Cut Vacuum Seal Bags, Align to Seal and Tear to Open, 43 Pack (2215035) — Easiest to Open

A few clear quart vacuum seal bags with a tear notch near the top, laid flat on a counter

A pre-cut quart bag built around convenience, with no stated size, thickness or texture.

Key Specifications

Thickness Not stated
Texture Not stated
Format Pre-cut quart bags, 43 count
Bag size Not stated (box dimensions only)
Bag area Not calculable
Machine fit stated Not stated
Claims Microwave, sous vide, freezer, fridge, pantry; leakproof seal
BPA-free Not stated
Model 2215035
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #399 overall; #6 in Vacuum Sealer Bags

Why We Recommend It

This pack is sold on handling, not on film. “Easy Use Design: No scissors required for these bags. Just align to seal and tear to open.” For anyone who has hacked at a frozen bag with kitchen scissors, a tear notch is a real convenience. It is the only listing here built around opening the bag rather than sealing it.

It does not give the bag size. The title says quart, and every other quart bag on this page is 8 by 12 inches, but this listing does not confirm that. The dimensions in its spec table, 8.8 by 6.1 by 2.8 inches, describe the box. Without a bag size, there is no area to calculate. With 43 bags, it is also the smallest bag count here apart from the 18-count zipper pack.

It is silent on the three things this guide checks first. No thickness. No texture. No machine fit, not even FoodSaver, though the brand’s rolls state it. It also does not say BPA-free, which the FoodSaver roll and zipper listings both do. A buyer with a FoodSaver countertop sealer will reasonably expect it to work, since the brand makes both; the listing just does not commit.

The heat claims are clear. “Microwave-safe and safe for sous vide cooking, plus freezer, fridge, and pantry storage.” Boil is not named and no temperature range is given. The “100% Leakproof Seal” claim is about the seal, which depends as much on your machine as on the bag. The “5x longer” freshness line is a listing claim with no stated basis.

What to weigh. Sold by Amazon.com, model 2215035, #399 overall and #6 in Vacuum Sealer Bags, the second-best-ranked pre-cut pack after the Wevac 200. For a FoodSaver owner who values the tear-open feature and buys in small quantities, it is the convenient option; for anyone who wants to know what they are sealing in, it gives the least to go on of any countertop bag here.

Pros

  • Tear-to-open design, no scissors
  • Microwave and sous vide claimed
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • #6 in Vacuum Sealer Bags
  • Pre-cut for single portions

Cons

  • Bag size not stated
  • No thickness or texture stated
  • No machine fit stated, not even FoodSaver
  • BPA-free not stated
  • 43 bags only
  • No temperature range

Best for: FoodSaver owners who want small packs of quart bags that tear open without scissors.

10. FoodSaver 1-Quart BPA-Free Multilayer Vacuum Zipper Bags, 18 Count (FSFRBZ0216-000) — For Handheld Sealers

Clear zip-top vacuum storage bags with a small round valve on one side, laid on a counter

Zip-top bags for a handheld sealer, not a countertop machine, and the listing gives one bullet to say so.

Key Specifications

Type Vacuum zipper bags (handheld-sealer type)
Thickness Not stated (“multilayer”)
Texture Not stated
Format Quart, 18 count (size field)
Bag size Not stated
Machine fit stated Not stated
Claims BPA-free; airtight barrier
Sous vide / microwave / boil Not stated
Warranty 1 Year limited warranty
Model FSFRBZ0216-000
Seller Amazon.com
Best Sellers Rank #1,073 overall; #13 in Vacuum Sealer Bags

Why We Recommend It

This is a different product from the other nine, and the listing barely says so. Vacuum zipper bags are reusable zip-top bags with a small valve on one face. A handheld sealer presses against the valve and draws the air out; you close the zip first. They are made for handheld sealers, and a clamp-style countertop sealer is not designed to work with them. The listing gives one bullet and does not name the machine. If you are shopping for a countertop sealer, skip this pack; if you own a handheld, our handheld vacuum sealer roundup covers the machines.

The one bullet is about the film. “BPA-free multilayer design is constructed of durable yet pliable material that creates an airtight barrier around foods, extending freshness and locking in flavors.” BPA-free is stated. Thickness, texture, bag size, temperature limits and uses are not. It does not say sous vide, microwave, freezer or boil, so there is no stated basis for putting it in hot water.

The count is small. The size field reads “Quart – 18 Count”, the smallest pack on the page. Zipper bags are meant to be washed and reused, which is why the count can be low, but the listing does not claim reuse in words. No bag dimensions are given, so there is no area to calculate. It is the only listing with a stated warranty, a “1 Year limited warranty”.

The contrast with Syntus is useful. Syntus states that its bags “do not feature an air valve and are not compatible with handheld vacuum sealers.” This is the reverse case: a valve bag for handheld sealers. Between them they mark the line every shopper needs to know. Countertop sealers want an open-ended embossed bag; handheld sealers want a valve bag; chamber sealers, as our chamber vacuum sealer guide explains, can use smooth pouches.

What to weigh. Sold by Amazon.com, model FSFRBZ0216-000, #1,073 overall and #13 in Vacuum Sealer Bags. For a handheld-sealer owner who wants zip-top bags from the brand, it is the obvious choice, but confirm the valve suits your sealer before you buy. For anyone with a countertop machine, it is the wrong bag.

Pros

  • Zip-top and valve design for handheld sealers
  • BPA-free stated
  • Only stated warranty: 1 year limited
  • Sold by Amazon.com
  • Built for reuse by design

Cons

  • Not for clamp-style countertop sealers
  • Machine fit not stated
  • One bullet only
  • No size, thickness or texture stated
  • No sous vide, microwave or boil claim
  • 18 bags only

Best for: Owners of a handheld vacuum sealer who want reusable zip-top quart bags.

Three Thicknesses, Seven Silences

Thickness is the one property of a vacuum bag that bears most directly on whether a bone, a frozen edge or a corner of pasta punches through it. It is also the one most listings leave out. The table gives every thickness statement on the page, word for word where there is no number.

Pack Thickness as stated Texture as stated Format
Syntus 11 in roll 3.15 mil smooth side; 6.7 mil textured side Single-side embossed dotted channels Roll
Syntus 100 Pcs 4 mil Single-side textured dot pattern Pre-cut
O2frepak 200 quart 3.5 mil front; 4 mil back Textured or embossed back panel Pre-cut
Wevac twin roll “Heavy duty” Embossed channels Roll
Wevac 200 quart “Heavy duty” Embossed channels Pre-cut
Wevac 150 mixed “Heavy duty” Embossed channels Pre-cut
Xinbaolong 150 mixed “Commercial grade”, “heavy duty” Grooves one side, smooth other Pre-cut
FoodSaver rolls “Multilayer” Not stated Roll
FoodSaver quart pre-cut Not stated Not stated Pre-cut
FoodSaver zipper “Multilayer” Not stated Zipper, valve

The three numbers sit close together. Every stated figure falls between 3.15 and 6.7 mil, and the two pre-cut packs that state thickness land at 3.5 to 4 mil per panel. A mil is a thousandth of an inch, so 4 mil is about 0.1 millimetres, or about 102 microns, by our arithmetic. The Syntus roll’s 6.7 mil textured side is the outlier, and on embossed film that figure may include the height of the dots rather than solid plastic; the listing does not say how it was measured.

The words carry no information you can compare. “Heavy duty” appears on all three Wevac listings and the Xinbaolong. “Multilayer” appears on two FoodSaver listings. Both may describe perfectly good film. But a word cannot be set against a number, and a shopper choosing between the Wevac and O2frepak 200-count quart packs, which are the same size and count, can only compare one of them.

Texture is better documented than thickness. Seven listings describe an embossed, textured or grooved face. That is the feature a clamp-style sealer depends on, because it gives the air a path out of the bag while the lid presses the two layers together. The three FoodSaver listings are the exceptions; the rolls at least state they are designed for FoodSaver machines, which use textured bags, but none of the three says so in words.

Glass jars of dried goods on a wooden counter
By our arithmetic, the packs here run from 40.0 to about 158.3 square feet of bag.

Square Feet in the Box

Bag packs are sold by count, and counts are not comparable: three rolls, 43 bags and 200 bags tell you nothing until you know the sizes. The table converts every pack that gives enough information into square inches and square feet of bag face. Everything in the last two columns is our arithmetic. It counts one face of each bag or roll, so the film itself is double that, and it ignores the inch or two each seal uses.

Pack Sizes and counts as stated Sq in (ours) Sq ft (ours)
Wevac twin roll 8 in x 100 ft + 11 in x 100 ft 22,800 About 158.3
Syntus 11 in roll 11 in x 150 ft 19,800 137.5
Wevac 200 quart 200 x 8 x 12 in 19,200 About 133.3
O2frepak 200 quart 200 x 8 x 12 in 19,200 About 133.3
Wevac 150 mixed 50 x 11 x 16, 70 x 8 x 12, 30 x 6 x 10 in 17,320 About 120.3
Syntus 100 Pcs 50 x 11 x 16, 50 x 8 x 12 in 13,600 About 94.4
FoodSaver rolls 3 x 8 in x 20 ft 5,760 40.0
Xinbaolong 150 mixed 150 bags, three sizes, split not stated — Not calculable
FoodSaver quart pre-cut 43 quart bags, size not stated — Not calculable
FoodSaver zipper 18 quart bags, size not stated — Not calculable

The top seller has the least film. The FoodSaver three-roll pack ranks #1 in Vacuum Sealer Bags and holds 40.0 square feet by our arithmetic. The Wevac twin roll holds about four times as much, and the Syntus roll more than three times. The gap is partly format: 60 feet of 8-inch roll against 200 feet across two widths. If you seal often, that difference decides how soon you are buying again.

Rolls and pre-cut bags waste film differently. A roll is cut to each item, so a short portion uses a short bag, but each bag needs a seal at both ends and a little trim. A pre-cut bag needs one seal and wastes whatever space the food does not fill. The quart packs suit uniform portions; the rolls suit mixed shapes. Our arithmetic treats both the same, so the roll figures overstate usable area slightly more than the pre-cut ones.

Listed weights give a rough cross-check, nothing more. Dividing each listed weight by our area gives ounces per square foot: about 0.64 for the Syntus roll, 0.62 for the Wevac twin roll, 0.55 for the O2frepak, 0.51 for the Wevac 200, 0.42 for the Wevac 150 and 0.20 for the FoodSaver rolls, all our arithmetic. The order roughly follows the stated thicknesses where they exist, with the thickest stated film heaviest per area. But several weights include a cutter or keeper box, none says whether it is the shipping weight, and three listings give no weight, so the figures cannot stand in for a thickness.

What Each Listing Says the Bags Can Take

Every bag here is sold for food storage. Beyond that, the claims split. The table logs each claim only where the listing uses the word.

Eight say BPA-free; eight say sous vide; one gives a number. The two that do not say BPA-free are the O2frepak, which says food grade, and the FoodSaver quart pack. The two that do not say sous vide are the O2frepak, which says cook and boilable, and the zipper bags. Only the Syntus roll prints a range, -4°F to 212°F. Four listings claim boiling in words: Syntus 100, Xinbaolong, FoodSaver rolls and O2frepak.

For hot use, the general rule is simple. Follow each bag’s stated temperature limit, for sous vide, simmering or reheating, and do not go past what the listing claims. A listing that says sous vide but not boil has not claimed boiling; a listing that says neither has not claimed hot water at all. Where no limit is printed, the seller is the place to ask. This is general guidance, not a food safety rating of any bag, and it does not replace the cooking temperatures your recipe or your sous vide circulator calls for.

Microwave and dishwasher claims are rarer. Six listings say microwave. Two, O2frepak and Xinbaolong, say dishwasher, and only Xinbaolong says reused and washed. The three Wevac listings mention freezer burn as something the bags prevent, which implies freezer use without stating a temperature.

Which Sealer Each Pack Says It Fits

Bags and sealers come in three families, and the families do not mix freely. Clamp-style countertop sealers, the most common kind and the subject of our vacuum sealer roundup, need an open-ended bag with one embossed or textured face. Handheld sealers draw air through a valve, and need valve or zipper bags. Chamber sealers evacuate the whole box and can seal smooth pouches, which are usually cheaper per bag, as our chamber vacuum sealer guide sets out; textured bags generally work in a chamber too, but smooth pouches do not work in a clamp-style sealer.

Pack Fit as stated Widest bag or roll
Wevac 150 mixed Food Saver, Seal a meal, Nesco, Weston, Cabela’s, Ziploc 11 in
Wevac 200 quart Food Saver, Seal a meal, Weston, Cabela’s, Ziploc 8 in
Wevac twin roll Food Saver, Seal a meal, Weston, Cabela’s 11 in
FoodSaver rolls FoodSaver system 8 in
O2frepak 200 quart All clamp-style sealers 8 in
Syntus 100 Pcs All desktop sealers; not handheld 11 in
Syntus 11 in roll All major brands 11 in
Xinbaolong 150 mixed All major brands 11 in
FoodSaver quart pre-cut Not stated Not stated
FoodSaver zipper Not stated; handheld-sealer type Not stated

Width is the fit check that matters. Brand lists are marketing; the physical limit is the seal bar. A bag or roll wider than the bar cannot be sealed in one pass. Five packs here include an 11-inch bag or roll, and three are 8 inches only. Most full-size countertop sealers take 11 inches, and many compact ones stop near 8. Measure yours before you buy a wide roll.

The two FoodSaver pre-cut packs are the odd ones out. The quart pack does not state any fit. The zipper pack is for a handheld sealer, and its listing never says so. The Syntus 100 is the only listing to rule a machine type out in writing, which is exactly the sentence a buyer needs.

Best Alternatives

Alternative Why Consider It Better For Main Trade-Off
Smooth chamber pouches Thinner-walled smooth bags made for chamber machines Owners of a chamber sealer who seal in volume Will not evacuate in a clamp-style sealer
Mason jars with a jar attachment Rigid, reusable, no film to buy Dry goods, coffee, soft foods that crush in a bag Needs an accessory port; not for sous vide
Reusable vacuum containers Rigid boxes with a valve lid for a hose or handheld sealer Marinating and leftovers in the fridge Bulky in the freezer; not for sous vide
Plain zip-top freezer bags No machine needed; water displacement removes most air Occasional sous vide at modest temperatures Less air removed; weaker for long freezing

If jars appeal, our mason jar vacuum sealer roundup covers the attachments that turn a sealer’s accessory port into a jar vacuum.

What Each Step Up in Film Actually Buys

From no stated thickness to a stated thickness. The first step is information, not plastic. A pack that prints its mil figure lets you compare it with any other that does. On this page that is the Syntus 100 at 4 mil, the O2frepak at 3.5 and 4 mil, and the Syntus roll at 3.15 and 6.7 mil. Everything else asks you to trust a word.

From thinner to thicker film. Thicker walls resist punctures from bones, shell and frozen edges better, and stand up to long freezer storage and handling. The cost is stiffness: thick film takes slightly longer to seal and folds less neatly. Among the stated figures here, the range is narrow, 3.15 to 6.7 mil, so the difference within this page is modest.

From pre-cut to rolls. Rolls let you match each bag to the food and usually carry more film per pack; the two biggest packs here are rolls. Pre-cut bags save the cutting and the second seal. The best choice depends on whether your food is uniform portions or mixed shapes.

From words to a temperature range. For sous vide, the step that matters most is a stated limit. Only one listing here has one. Every other sous vide claim on the page is a word without a ceiling.

A clear container of water with a sealed food pouch submerged beside an immersion circulator
Eight listings say sous vide; only one prints a ceiling, 212°F.

What to Check Before You Buy

Match the Bag to Your Sealer Type

Clamp-style countertop sealers need open-ended bags with one embossed or textured face. Handheld sealers need valve or zipper bags; the FoodSaver zipper pack here is that kind, and the Syntus 100 says plainly it is not. Chamber sealers can use smooth pouches. Buying the wrong family is the most common and most avoidable mistake, and two of the ten listings here do not state their fit at all.

Look for a Thickness in Mil or Microns

A printed figure is the only way to compare film across brands. Three listings here give one, from 3.15 to 6.7 mil. Where a listing gives two figures, one per side, read both. Where it gives a word, such as heavy duty or multilayer, ask the seller for the number or treat the word as unknown.

Confirm the Texture in Words

Seven listings describe embossed channels, dots or grooves. The three FoodSaver listings do not. If you use a clamp-style sealer from another brand, look for the texture in writing before you rely on a bag designed for someone else’s machine.

Measure Your Seal Bar Against the Widest Bag

Five packs here include 11-inch bags or rolls. An 11-inch roll on an 8-inch bar cannot be sealed in one pass. The fix is simple: measure the bar and buy rolls no wider than it. For a sealer that will run every day, our vacuum sealer for heavy use guide looks at bar width and duty cycle together.

Work Out the Area, Not the Count

Multiply size by count, or width by length for rolls, and compare square feet. On this page the calculable packs run from 40.0 to about 158.3 square feet by our arithmetic. Two FoodSaver listings and the Xinbaolong do not give enough to calculate, which is itself worth knowing.

Follow the Stated Temperature Limit for Hot Use

For sous vide, simmering or microwave reheating, keep to each bag’s stated limit. Only the Syntus roll prints one, -4°F to 212°F. Four listings say boil or boilable without a number, and several say sous vide without a number. If the listing does not claim a use, do not assume it.

Read Shelf-Life Multipliers as Marketing

Listings here claim food lasts 3 to 6 times, 5 times or 6 times longer. None gives a test basis, and real results depend on the food, the seal and the freezer. Use them as a sign the bag is meant for long storage, not as a figure to plan around.

Pint bags suit herbs and small portions; only two packs here include them.

Common Mistakes

  • Buying zipper bags for a countertop sealer. The FoodSaver zipper pack is the valve type for handheld sealers, and its one bullet never says so.
  • Using smooth pouches in a clamp-style sealer. Without embossed channels the bag collapses flat and traps air; seven listings here state a textured face.
  • Reading “heavy duty” as a thickness. Four listings use it and none prints a mil figure; three others print 3.15 to 6.7 mil.
  • Comparing packs by count. 200 quart bags are about 133.3 sq ft by our arithmetic; three FoodSaver rolls are 40.0.
  • Buying an 11-inch roll for an 8-inch bar. Five packs include 11 in bags or rolls; measure your seal bar first.
  • Assuming sous vide means any temperature. Eight listings say sous vide; one, the Syntus roll, gives a ceiling: 212°F.
  • Boiling a bag that does not claim boiling. Only four of ten say boil or boilable in words.
  • Assuming a FoodSaver bag fits any FoodSaver. The quart pre-cut pack states no fit at all, and the zipper pack needs a handheld.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best vacuum sealer bags?

For most people with a countertop sealer, the Syntus 100 Pcs pack. It is one of only three listings out of ten here that state a film thickness, 4 mil, and it states a single-side textured dot pattern, which is what a clamp-style sealer needs to draw air out. It gives a clear split of 50 quart bags at 8 by 12 inches and 50 gallon bags at 11 by 16 inches, says BPA-free, and claims microwave, freezer, boiling and sous vide use. It also tells you plainly that it does not fit handheld sealers. If you cook sous vide and your sealer takes 11-inch rolls, the Syntus 11 inch by 150 foot roll is the better choice, because it is the only listing here with a stated temperature range, -4°F to 212°F. If you own a FoodSaver, its own rolls are the best-selling bags on Amazon and are designed for the machine, though they print no thickness.

What are the best vacuum sealer bags for food?

Every pack here is sold for food, so the useful question is which suits the food you seal. For bony cuts such as chops and ribs, choose a stated thickness: the Syntus 100 at 4 mil, the O2frepak at 3.5 and 4 mil, or the Syntus roll at 3.15 and 6.7 mil. For mixed portions, a size mix helps; the Wevac 150 gives 50 gallon, 70 quart and 30 pint bags. For long fish fillets or irregular shapes, a roll lets you cut each bag to length. For raw and cooked food together, FoodSaver and O2frepak both state suitability for raw and cooked foods. Eight of the ten say BPA-free; the O2frepak and the FoodSaver quart pack do not. Whatever you choose, match the bag to your sealer type first, since a bag that will not evacuate on your machine protects nothing.

What are the best vacuum sealer rolls?

Three of the ten packs here are rolls. The Syntus 11 inch by 150 foot roll is the best documented: 3.15 mil smooth side, 6.7 mil textured side, embossed dotted channels, a stated -4°F to 212°F range and a cutter box, about 137.5 square feet of bag face by our arithmetic. The Wevac twin pack gives the most film, an 8 inch and an 11 inch roll of 100 feet each, about 158.3 square feet by our arithmetic, with embossed channels stated but no thickness. The FoodSaver three-roll pack is the best seller, ranked #1 in Vacuum Sealer Bags, and is designed for FoodSaver machines, but at 8 inches by 20 feet each it holds 40.0 square feet, the least here, and states no thickness or texture. Before buying any 11-inch roll, measure your sealer’s bar: a roll wider than the bar cannot be sealed in one pass.

What are the best vacuum seal bags for sous vide?

The Syntus 11 inch roll, because it is the only listing out of ten that gives a temperature range: -4°F to 212°F. Eight listings mention sous vide, but seven of them give no number, so you have no stated limit to cook within. The Syntus 100 Pcs and the FoodSaver rolls both claim sous vide and boiling in words, which suggests hot water is expected, and both say BPA-free. The general guidance is the same for any bag: follow its stated temperature limits for sous vide or simmering, and do not go beyond what the listing claims. If a listing says neither sous vide nor boil, as with the FoodSaver zipper bags here, it has not claimed hot use at all. Where no limit is printed, ask the seller before you rely on the bag in a water bath, especially for long cooks.

Do vacuum sealer bags need to be embossed?

For a clamp-style countertop sealer, yes. These machines grip the open end of the bag and pump air out through it, and they need channels in the film to give the air a path. A perfectly smooth bag tends to collapse against itself and trap pockets of air. That is why seven listings here describe embossed channels, textured dots or grooves on one face. Chamber sealers work differently: they pull the air out of the whole chamber, bag and all, so smooth pouches seal well in them, and textured bags usually work too. Handheld sealers use bags with a valve instead. The three FoodSaver listings here do not mention texture in words; the rolls say they are designed for FoodSaver machines, which use textured bags, but if you have another brand of sealer, look for the texture stated in writing.

How thick should vacuum sealer bags be?

Thicker film resists punctures from bones, shell and frozen edges better and holds up to long freezer storage, while thinner film seals faster and folds more easily. On this page only three listings give a number to compare, and they sit close together: the Syntus 100 at 4 mil, the O2frepak at 3.5 mil front and 4 mil back, and the Syntus roll at 3.15 mil smooth and 6.7 mil textured. A mil is a thousandth of an inch, so 4 mil is about 102 microns by our arithmetic. The textured-side figure on embossed film may include the height of the pattern, so it is not directly comparable with a smooth-side figure. The other seven listings use words such as heavy duty, multilayer or commercial grade. Those may describe good film, but you cannot compare a word with a number, so ask the seller if thickness matters to you.

Can I use FoodSaver zipper bags in a countertop vacuum sealer?

They are not designed for that. The FoodSaver 1-Quart Vacuum Zipper Bags are the reusable zip-top type with a valve, made for a handheld sealer that presses against the valve and draws the air out after you close the zip. A clamp-style countertop sealer needs an open-ended bag with an embossed face that it can grip and heat seal. The listing itself is brief, one bullet, and does not name the machine it fits, which makes the mistake easy. If you have a countertop FoodSaver, buy its rolls or pre-cut bags instead. If you own a handheld sealer, the zipper bags are the right family, but check that the valve suits your model. Syntus makes the reverse point in its own listing: its pre-cut bags have no air valve and are not compatible with handheld sealers.

Are vacuum sealer rolls better than pre-cut bags?

Neither is better across the board. Rolls let you cut each bag to the food, so a long fillet and a single patty each get the right length, and they often carry more film per pack: the two biggest packs here by our arithmetic are the Wevac twin roll at about 158.3 square feet and the Syntus roll at 137.5. The trade-off is that each roll bag needs a seal at both ends, which takes a little more time and film. Pre-cut bags need one seal and are ready to fill, which suits batches of uniform portions; the Wevac and O2frepak 200-count quart packs are the bulk options here. A size mix such as the Wevac 150, with pint, quart and gallon bags, covers most needs without cutting. Whichever you choose, the width must not exceed your sealer’s bar.

Best for FoodSaver OwnersFoodSaver Custom Fit Rolls, 3 Pack

#1 in Vacuum Sealer Bags, designed for FoodSaver sealers, with boiling and microwave claimed.

Ten vacuum sealer bag listings, and only three tell you how thick the film is. Syntus states 4 mil on its pre-cut pack and 3.15 and 6.7 mil on its roll; O2frepak states 3.5 and 4 mil. The other seven, including every FoodSaver and every Wevac listing, use words. Texture is better covered, with seven listings describing an embossed face, but the three FoodSaver listings, the brand that tops the category, mention none.

The heat claims are the widest gap. Eight listings say sous vide. One, the Syntus roll, gives a temperature range. Four say boil without a number. For anything that goes in hot water, follow each bag’s stated limit, and on most of this page that means asking the seller for one.

Match the family before you compare the film. Clamp-style sealers want embossed open-ended bags; handheld sealers want valve bags like the FoodSaver zipper pack; chamber sealers can use smooth pouches. Then check width against your seal bar, and compare packs by square feet, not count: on our arithmetic they run from 40.0 to about 158.3.

If you buy one pack from this page, make it the Syntus 100 Pcs: a stated 4 mil film with a stated textured side, quart and gallon bags in known numbers, and boil, microwave and sous vide in writing. If you cook sous vide on an 11-inch sealer, take the Syntus roll for its stated 212°F ceiling; if you own a FoodSaver and want the brand’s own, its rolls are the category’s best seller.
